You want Nigeria, the giant of Africa, to ditch France just because some mushrooms desert countries as Mali, Chad, Burkina, Niger, Senegal are cutting ties with France?. Can any of these poorest, desert countries or all of them combined sink in a $750million investment in Nigeria?. Countries that jihadists are still giving wotowoto despite being ruled by military dictators. Since military takeovers, the lives of their average citizens have not changed a bit.

Tinubu has set a target of $10billion investment in gas sector, two key executive bills have been signed to enhance efficiency in the sector to attract both local and foreign investors.

Politics › Totalenergies Plans $750 Million Investment In Nigeria’s Gas Project Next Year by PressMyButton(op): 8:39pm On Nov 29, 2024
French oil giant TotalEnergies has announced plans to invest $750 million in a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in Nigeria in 2025. The company’s Senior Vice President for Africa, Mike Sangster, disclosed this during the France-Nigeria Business Forum in Paris on Friday.

He explained that the project, a shallow water initiative known as Ima, is aimed at boosting gas supply to TotalEnergies’ LNG facility.

Sangster emphasized that the $750 million investment would also support the revival of Nigeria’s hydrocarbon production.

“We have another dry gas project called Ima which we hope to sanction next year for about $750 million,” Sangster stated.

Earlier this year, TotalEnergies unveiled a similar initiative, the Ubeta onshore gas field, which has an output capacity of 300 million cubic feet per day of LNG. The Ubeta project, a partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited, is valued at $500 million.

Speaking further, the vice president urged a relaxation of local content regulations to encourage the return of international contractors specializing in deep-water projects. He noted that this move could stimulate competition and unlock investments currently on hold.

However, he commended the government’s efforts in implementing certain reforms over the years. According to him, the incentives introduced have motivated TotalEnergies to consider further investments in Nigeria and work towards halting the decline in oil and gas production.

“There’s still more to be done in terms of regulation, simplifying, and accelerating the process, but we have appreciated some of the changes that have been made over the past year.
“However, they have given us now the incentive or the motivation to go ahead and renew our investments in Nigeria so that we can stop the decline and start to increase production,”
Sangster added.

Politics › Reps To Hold National Dialogue On LG Autonomy Next Week by PressMyButton(op): 6:51pm On Nov 29, 2024
The House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on Thursday announced that it will hold a national dialogue on local government autonomy on Monday, 2nd December 2024, in Abuja.

Deputy Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, disclosed this in Abuja while briefing members of the Special Ad-hoc Committee on Constitution Review on the agenda.

He explained that the forthcoming national dialogue on local government autonomy aims to consolidate ideas for a robust discourse on the independence of local government administration in Nigeria.

He said, “Distinguished colleagues, I would also like to remind us of the upcoming National Dialogue on Local Government and Constitution Amendment scheduled to hold on Monday, 2nd December 2024, in Abuja.

“This event is a vital platform to consolidate ideas and strategies for achieving a robust local government framework, which is critical to our constitutional review efforts.

“In addition, other engagements that we will be having include a public engagement on tax reforms as it concerns the constitution amendment and a public engagement with political parties.

“As we continue in this historic undertaking, let us remain guided by our shared commitment to strengthening our democracy, deepening our federal structure, and fostering unity and prosperity for all Nigerians.”

Hon. Kalu also announced that the Special Ad-hoc Committee will commence zonal public hearings in January 2025. This followed the resolution of the committee on the locations of the public engagements. He said that the hearings will take place in 12 states, representing the six geopolitical zones.

The states include Gombe and Borno (North East); Nasarawa and Niger (North Central); Kaduna and Sokoto (North West); Enugu and Imo (South East); Bayelsa and Cross River (South-South); and Lagos and Ondo (South West), respectively.

Hon. Kalu, who emphasised the importance of inclusivity, encouraged committee members to engage with their respective state caucuses, governors, members of state houses of assembly, political parties, and all other stakeholders to ensure the success of the exercise.

“These are the locations in all the geopolitical zones for our public engagements next year. Those who are from these states, engage your colleagues in the House; engage your governors and members of your House of Assembly. Then, draw up your own local plan and let us have it so that we can integrate it into our plan to guide us. What we expect is to have a full hall.

“The stakeholder engagement list must be drawn to cut across all the relevant stakeholders in the country from your states. Please do not discriminate against political parties. No religious biases. No tribal discrimination. Everyone who is a Nigerian should be in that room, and then find a way of itemising your opinion on the 161 areas we are currently looking at so that on that day, it will be easier for people to come in and make presentations that will cover the interests of the stakeholders. We don’t want to spend too much time. It’s a lot of work. It’s starting in January,” Hon. Kalu said.

Politics › NNPC Denies Community Leader Claim, Says Port Harcourt Refinery 90% Operational by PressMyButton(op): 4:54pm On Nov 29, 2024
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has refuted claims by a community leader in Alesa, Rivers State, alleging that the Port Harcourt refinery is not yet producing fuel.

In a statement released on Friday, NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye criticized the comments made by the community leader, describing them as a display of ignorance about refinery operations. Soneye explained that while he would have typically ignored such remarks, he felt compelled to respond in order to clarify the situation.

Timothy Mgbere, reportedly a leader in the Alesa community, appeared on national television on Thursday, where he accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) of misleading Nigerians by claiming that the Port Harcourt refinery is already processing crude oil.

According to Soneye, the Port Harcourt refinery is now operating at 90% capacity. He emphasized that the allegations lacked merit and were inconsistent with the facts, particularly as the refinery has been actively producing and distributing fuel. Soneye pointed out contradictions in the community leader’s claims.

What NNPC is Saying

The NNPC spokesperson noted that the leader had acknowledged fuel being loaded out from the refinery’s gantry but dismissed it as “old stock” from the previous refinery, which, Soneye argued, further undermined the credibility of the allegations.

“He (Mgbere) claimed that the old Port Harcourt Refinery was only operating skeletally and was not processing PMS. His proof was that the PMS truck-out was done at the gantry of the new Port Harcourt Refinery as against the gantry of the old Port Harcourt Refinery.

“This betrays his scant knowledge of the operations of the refinery. The old and new Port Harcourt Refineries have since been integrated with one single terminal for product load-out.

“They share common utilities like power and storage tanks. This means that storage tanks and loading gantry which he claimed belong to the new Port-Harcourt Refinery can also receive products from the Old Port Harcourt Refinery

“The nameplate capacity of the refinery is 60,000 barrels of oil per day. It is currently producing at 90 per cent throughput which translates to Straight-Run gasoline (Naphtha) blended into 1.4 million liters of PMS, aside from other products like diesel and kerosene.

“We call on the general public to disregard the claims of the self-acclaimed ‘community person’ which are obviously borne out of sheer mischief and blatant display of ignorance,” Soneye said.

Politics › Port Harcourt Refinery: Marketers Seek Speedy Completion Of Road by PressMyButton(op): 8:48am On Nov 29, 2024
Following the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt refinery, oil marketers have called for the speedy completion of the Eleme road leading to the refinery.

The marketers under the aegis of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria appealed to the contractors handling the East-West road to speed up the renovation of the Eleme-East-West road.

Recall that the Federal Government had repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work even after the government had made an advance payment of N33bn to the contractor. At the moment, our correspondent gathered that the Eleme road that leads to the refinery is still in a deplorable condition, raising safety concerns.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of PETROAN, Joseph Obele, disclosed that the completion of the road became necessary to avoid cases of trucks overturning and exploding due to bad roads.
Obele pleaded that the road should be made motorable and smooth for the movement of trucks carrying petroleum products because of their flammable nature.

“We call on the management of RCC handling the East-West road to ensure speedy completion of the Eleme-East-West road in view of making the road smooth for the movement of trucks carrying petroleum products due to the Hazardous and flammable nature of petroleum products,” PETROAN said.

In October, an overturned fuel tanker exploded in Jigawa, killing at least 157 people who had rushed to the scene of the accident to collect leaking petrol. Experts and stakeholders have repeatedly expressed worries over incessant tanker explosions in Nigeria, but it appears more still has to be done.

Meanwhile, PETROAN expressed optimism that the commencement of production at the Port Harcourt refinery will usher in job opportunities, boost the economy and trigger competition in the downstream sector which will invariably result in a downward price review.

He appreciated members of the host communities for the peaceful cooperation given to workers during the rehabilitation of the refinery.

Blending is a refining process that involves converting a blend of various crude oil components to achieve a specific specification. It is a standard practice all over the world, there's no refinery that does not involve blending as part of refining processes. But when some ignorant and illiterate people hear the word "blending", they think we're talking about how they mix agbo together in Nigeria. The quality of Education in Nigeria leaves much to be desired. Rather than do your own findings, you turn yourself into headless mob, waiting for some people to do the thinking for you and shitting into your skull.
