PoliticsSenate Sets Date To Resolve Tax Reform Bill Issues by PressMyButton(op): 5:56pm On Dec 04, 2024
The Upper Chamber of the National Assembly has directed its Committee on Finance to suspend further action on the proposed tax bill pending the outcome of a high-level meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

This was as the Senate established a committee to examine the ambiguous aspects of the much-debated Tax Reform Bills and to provide a report to the full Senate prior to the public hearing on these bills.

The Senate gave this directive on Wednesday in a press statement issued by the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin during plenary
Barau, who presided over the meeting, noted the existing controversies surrounding the bills and indicated that the committee is tasked with engaging in consultations with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the executive branch, and other key stakeholders. The committee is led by the Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South).

On October 3, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu submitted four tax reform bills to the National Assembly, as communicated in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker, Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas during separate sessions of the two chambers.

Tinubu emphasized that the bills aim to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal institutions and align with his administration’s broader developmental goals for the nation.

However, there has been significant opposition to the bills from various groups, including governors, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and some federal lawmakers.

Additionally, Barau identified Senators Titus Zam (APC, Benue North West), Orjir Uzor Kalu (Abia North), Sani Musa (APC, Niger East), and Abdullahi Yahaha (Kebbi North), among others, as members of the committee.

However, you have the right to assume anything about any city, if it makes sleep well. It is your democratic right.

Again, I will not engage in tribal rat race with you. Not my style.

I love President Tinubu's appointees, they're giving me joy, gbas gbos everywhere. Come to think of it, if the President doesn't mean well for the country, he wouldn't have pushed his reforms in his first term. He would have waited till the second term as past presidents usually did.

After God, na Tinubu💪 God bless Nigeria.
PoliticsStop Threatening President Tinubu With 2027, Politics Is Not A Job – Presidency by PressMyButton(op):
Abiodun Essiet, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), defended Tinubu’s intentions, stating that his policies aim to revitalize Nigeria’s economy.

In a brief post on her X handle on Tuesday, Mrs. Essiet addressed the backlash over the Tax Reform Bill, responding to claims that its passage could jeopardize Tinubu’s chances in 2027.

She emphasized that “politics is not a job” and argued that the President’s commitment to implementing reforms in his first term demonstrates his genuine concern for the country’s growth.

“Stop going to the media to threaten the president about 2027. You can continue to have breakfast meetings until 2027 because of the lack of joblessness. Politics is not a job.

“The president means well for the people of this country; no president will push for the type of reforms the president is pushing for in their first tenure (LGA autonomy, financial reforms, tax reforms).

“Most president will make such to their second tenure… So, it is not about 2027. It is about taking Nigeria to the promised land. Let’s stop politicizing every reform. Leave politics till 2026.

“We are solving the problem of multi-taxation through our tax reforms. Get some work and leave politics for now,” she wrote.

The Community Engagement Aide further charged Nigerians to read the Tax Reform Bill to have a better understanding of its contents.

“Read about the tax reform bills yourself, and don’t depend on social media influencers or other media platforms to educate you about the bills. Influencers are paid to create public sentiment around the reforms and are often politically motivated. Stop being gullible. Let’s keep engaging in intellectual discourse,” Essiet added.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills Not Anti-North – Dogara by PressMyButton(op): 8:11am On Dec 04, 2024
ayo84:
The north needs to reorganise and reassess its economic advantage in agriculture and animal husbandry and also solid minerals. They can bolster the valie chain and increase revenue and correspondingly taxes and levies accruable to states in the north. Revatilisation of dry sea ports is also a way to push for industralisation in the north.
It's time to roll up the sleeves and work. The menace of banditry and terrorism that looks so difficult to deal with will miraculously disappear.
