An 80-year-old woman has reportedly been raped to death by suspected hoodlums including a palm wine tapper at Ore, Odigbo council area of Ondo state.

The ugly incident which occurred inside her farm in Costain area in Ore has created anxiety among people in the community.

A local who spoke with newsmen said that the victim had been missing for days after she left for the farm only for her corpse to be found a few days after.

She was reportedly stripped naked after she was raped by her attackers.

A source in the town said “This is not the first time we’re witnessing this ugly incident, several women have been raped in their farms by these hoodlums suspected to be herdsmen.

” The fear of being attacked has prevented women from going to their farms alone for some time now. Why they picked on this old woman remained a mystery to us in the community

“The octogenarian was alleged to have been raped before she was murdered by her attacker in her farm. What would have attracted them to an 80-year-old woman? They just wasted her. Maybe she recognized some of her attackers that’s why they killed her. Her gruesome death was sad and unfortunate.

” We appeal to security agencies and the state government to come to our rescue in Ore. The hoodlums are having a field day and taking advantage of our women. Our amiable governor Rotimi Akeredolu, should help deploy the state security outfit codenamed Amotekun, to our community. We’re passionately appealing to him

Meanwhile, a police source said that a suspect known as Sunday, a palm wine tapper, has been arrested.

It was learnt that the suspect was arrested by some youths in the community.

They reportedly found in his possession the telephone of the victim.

A police source said that the suspect later took the youths to where the corpse of the victim was later found and alleged that she was murdered by some herdsmen.

The state police image maker, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the arrest of the suspect adding that the incident was a case of rape and murder.

Odunlami added that the suspect would soon be paraded by the state police command after interrogation and subsequently charged to court

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a five-day warning strike following the failure of the Federal Government to meet its demands.

According to the statement issued on Monday, May 15, 2023, this was the decision reached after its six and half hours extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held virtually.

The resident doctors said the strike will commence at 8 am on Wednesday, May 17, and will end Monday, May 22, at 8 am.

Recall that NARD had on April 29, 2023, issued a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to meet its demands or face industrial disharmony.

The ultimatum ended on Saturday, May 13, 2023.

The doctors are demanding an immediate increment in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure to the tune of 200 per cent of the current gross salaries of doctors.

The doctors also want the immediate withdrawal of the bill seeking to compel medical and dental graduates to render five-year compulsory services in Nigeria before being granted full licences to practise.

They also want the immediate implementation of CONMESS, domestication of the Medical Residency Training Act, and review of hazard allowance by all the state governments as well as private tertiary health institutions where any form of residency training is done; among others.

The President of NARD, Dr Emeka Orji told The STAR POTTER that the strike was total, involving both emergency and clinical operations in the hospitals.

Dr. Orji said despite the ultimatum issued to the government which ended on May 13, the government did not negotiate with the doctors regarding their demands.

The Guinness World Records has hailed Nigerian chef Hilda Baci on her attempt to break the record for the longest cooking time.

The Guinness World Record dropped a comment to wish her goodluck during her live session on Instagram on Sunday.

The current record for the world’s longest cooking marathon is held by Lata Tondon, who completed the task in 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 secs in Rewa, India, in 2019.

At the time of this report, Baci has exceeded 73 hours in her attempt.

Meanwhile, Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has joined the list of notable individuals encouraging Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, as she attempts the Guinness World Record for the longest time cooking nonstop.

Osinbajo through a live phone call wishes her goodluck.
