Greetings to everyone! I have been a silent reader of this thread and I have gained a lot from all the information provided here.

I have a question for landed seniors who used Ethiopian Airlines. We are planning to land in Edmonton in July and have been searching for flights. I used the airline's mobile app to search and got a really good deal from Lagos to Toronto and then to Edmonton (through air Canada) .

My questions are:
1. Would we be required to pay extra for our checked-in luggages on the air Canada flight from Toronto to Edmonton?

2. Secondly how did y'all book your connecting flights from Toronto to your final destinations? Did you pay for your luggages?

2. You would have booked your connecting flight from Nigeria via Ethopia Airline (book - Lagos to Edmonton straight) When you arrived Toronto airport, look for air canada stand and check in your luggage (you would have collected your luggage as soon as you landed via Ethopian airline)

I used the internet banking option. I'm not sure fx transfer function is available on the GTWorld app. I looked a while (without trying to hard), and just went to the internet banking portal because I had a clearer idea where to find the transfer option.

It is possible to move from a GT dom account to any other currency account in the world. I have done it with AUD in the past. So expect it will be the same with CAD. However, the transfer will be done on the basis of the exchange rate at the time the transaction is put through. There is probably no real advantage to watching the forex prices trying to save an extra few cents, but if you want to manage your USD to CAD conversions by yourself, for the extra few dollars from forex fluctuations, then best to go into a USD account.

Changed USD into my Gtbank domiciliary account before i left. I travelled with USD$5k only because of the size of my family, honestly I don't even like travelling with that much money. On arrival, got my SIN next day, then proceeded to open bank accounts same day(I went with RBC). Requested a USD account as well as the CAD accounts, then I transferred from my Nigerian dom account to the USD account. Cash was credited into my account within 24hrs. When you consider the time difference it could be up to 48hrs if you miss the window to initiate the transfer in Nigerian time. I had to be careful to initiate the transfer before the GTbank closed their fx transactions for the day or it gets carried over to the next day and extends by a further day or so. And you can move between your CAD and USD accounts as easily as moving cash between your current and savings accounts in Nigeria.

The high end Techy and Finance jobs are in Toronto Ontario and if you want to compete for your space you need to be where it is happening. Good enough there are some relatively cheaper places in Ontario that you can commute daily to and fro Toronto. One of the Directors of one of the big banks i met in downtown Toronto when i went for ACCA members networking commutes daily from Brampton. So if an Oga can do that, whats stopping omoshe like me.(In his case i dont think money is the problem. He is indian and they have this communal life in Brampton that i guess he wants to be around his people).

There are other cities like oakville, Mississauga(my wonderful city) etc that are cheaper than Toronto.

Thanks for this analysis. Does it mean that as an accountant, one can't get job outside Ontario or it would be nearly impossible. For me I prefer to work as an accountant in a company than working in a firm of Accountants or bank even in Nigeria.

I would research on this Mississauga and other suburbs.

It depends on the industry you want to start with and the role. Is it audit, general accountant, cost accountant, financial controller, account payable, account receivables, etc. These roles will shape the salary scale.

But if you are young, you can try the big 4, you won't regret it later on. I think the big 4s pay over 100k for ACAs.

Any other company should be able to pay over 100k as well except you don't have any experience.

Started the journey Jan 2016, wrote first ielts, got 6.5 in Listening, write another one, got 7 in listening. I gave up.

My friend didn't give up, we both failed that two times, she wrote again and passed and got ppr, was encouraged to write ielts 3rd time. I wrote and got 8 in listening and got ITA. Below is my Timeline.
