GetSenseNow: The present crop of people in power have no desire to get things right. You guys need to understand this. Check Nigeria's history, there has been a steady decline in all facets of democracy. Governance has been on a negative trajectory and you think they don't know what they're doing? Lolzzzzz.....it amuses me when I see people who believe in the promises of this government.
Anyways, let Nigerians suffer since we've chosen to allow our leaders use tribal and religious differences to control us You are right bro. However, I don't believe any promises of this government. I simply want this government to implement a productive policy that will encourage massive industrialization and processing of all our natural resources. On the use of tribal and religious difference to divide us, yes I agree with you. They use the divide and rule tactics, i.e when we fight amongst ourselves, they have a field day for sharing and stealing from the national purse. We the people should be wise enough to put our ethnic and religious difference aside when it concerns moving the nation forward. Because the end of the day we Nigeria is still our country. I still believe that this nation will be great even in my time. |

nairalanda1: The only way we can be productive is by making the production of energy profitable, so that it can work,,.,...subsidy removal total on petrol and power....AND...improve roads and rails...more taxes.
And Nigeria generates 80% of its income from oil, said revenue enough for a country that is less than 10 million in size. Not our 200 million.
See the wahala.
I end it here. This statement "Nigeria generates 80% of its income from oil" is wrong in every respect. You can't say you have earned forex when said money is used to procure petroleum byproducts. Our population is supposed to be our strength. It's a pity that this government doesn't see the gold mine in our population. Imagine if 200milion people are productive...every corners of this country will be producing something/ offering service coupled with our natural resources. We will have much to take care of ourselves and much to also sell as export too. Let me end it here too. #NigeriaWillBeGreat #JusticeForTheNaira |

At this point, you can only realistically speak for yourself and those close to you. The situation is already beyond you and I.
Honestly, the situation might already be beyond Tinubu and his league of extraordinary corrupt misfits... But, they won't admit this. It's never too late to get it right. Just one right policy with good implimentation and let's all get to work the you will see the turn around. We can still get it right if these people that calls themselves leaders wants us to. Our leaders are not intentional about this country that's why things are like the way they are. #JusticeForTheNaira |

Angelfrost: Lol... The nation will definitely retrogress further.
The people you mentioned above have no desire to see the progress of the nation... They are only interested in enriching themselves.
The inevitable collapse of the nation means nothing to most of them, including Tinubu.
They have all secured their futures and those of their families abroad.
When you tell Nigerians to vote and elect people truly desirous of a prosperous nation, they claim their tribe or religion must be the one in power or nothing else.
I don't pity average Nigerians anymore... I feel many of us deserve to suffer. We don't deserve to suffer at all. We need this country to work for the betterment of us all. #JusticeForTheNaira |
Education › Re: Dilapidated Structure: Edo School Children Kneel To Beg Obaseki For Help (video) by Primusinterpares(m): 3:01pm On Oct 19, 2023 |
nairalanda1: We should be more productive, which is where I am heading to pointwise...we have to be an exporter of manufactured goods and servicies
But short term? We need money now. And that means taxes...or more loans
And even loans get as it be. All of them come with terms and conditions. Unless we are specifically taking a loan for school infrastructure....we cannot use the money we get for other loans for schools. Alot of people/government don't understand TAX. The more productive the people are the more their standard of living improves and conversely the more they are able to pay more taxes. The amount of tax 1000 road side tomatoes sellers pays per annum is far less than the tax a tomatoes paste company will pay. If the purchasing power of the people is reduced it means that their tax remittance will be reduced as well. In Nigeria, Taxes is not the only source of money for government. Income generated from other sources should be properly utilized |

nairalanda1: Okay, don't complain when they take a loan.
And by the way, we should fight corruption and deal with the corrupt. But even then, that doesn't yield us the money in the amounts we need. Provided we see what they are using the loan collected for. Not like the $400million collected to do cash transfer. This one is pure corruption and useless. If they are collecting any loan we should see that they are using it for something productive. Like if they are taking loan to build transmission lines to boast the electricity supply. Or if they are taking loan to revitalize the refineries, or they want to use the loan to bring our steel plant on stream...These are project that will make us productive as a nation. If these listed are done, we will earn the needed revenue to champion quality education and great health care. Only productivity will yield us the money we need in this country. Government should encourage industrialization. They should bring policies that will make industries to florish. |

nairalanda1: Okay, want to know how sane countries pay for good buildings for their schools
1.TAXES
2.TAXES
5.TAXES
10.HIGH SCHOOL FEES.
Back in the day, I went to a private school. Fees were high, and my parents were not rich (they both had side hustles, and my dad had to take a second job even...how he did not develop hypertension under the strain is a miracle)...whose fees were quantillion times higher than the nearby LEA school, and another government school.
Guesss what....my private school had better housing, better classrooms, better chairs, etc..plus we got new exercise books whenever we needed them (I can only recall buying two exercise books in six years...and that was because the supplier was late with supplies, not because of the school running out of kudi)...because we PAID FEES that made sense.
Edo state budget is 420 million dollars. The University of New Hamshirre, the state uni of the New Hampshire state, spends 100million dollars on its university alone. The state budget is 16 billion dollars.
And you Nigerians would want schools to look 'decent' like they do in 'sane countries'...with WHICH MONEY?
Either Edo finds billions more naira, or Edo taxes everyone at a rate of 40-50% or Edo state...takes LOANS.
And this is the situation whoever is in charge. Whether APC, PDP, etc. Nigeria is not making enough money, because our leaders do not want to make the hard changes. AND THAT INCLUDES APC....Apc is very lazy. Stop saying things that are wrong in all regards. Has Nigerians told you that they will not pay high taxes? The problem is if the taxes paid are properly utilized. Let me tell you a story.: I live in Lagos and the part I live in we enjoy almost 24 hours power supply - Interesting right? Now we have prepaid meters and we are charged higher than the regular charge per KWH. Nobody complains of this charge because we are actually enjoying the service. It's applicable in Nigeria too. If the people sees that the taxes are used for infrastructure development, good hospital, electricity, roads etc. We won't mind to pay 50%taxes. Provided we are seeing what the money is being used for. |

fineboynl: ..to crash food price is to open the border.
Government can use the opening and closing the border to regulate the food price. When it going up you open the border and when it come down you close the border.
Local rice is now 250 for a cup. All the way from 30 during Jonathan.
If foreign rice enters unrestricted. The local rice will be forced to go down and all other food. Can you listen to yourself? The only true way out of these mess is PRODUCTIVITY. Every citizen of Nigeria has to be productive. And all these mumu exportation of natural resources has to be stopped. We should refine our natural resources and export it's byproducts that way we earn more. Also those things that we import which can be produced here should be restricted. These things are basic economic. |
