I love Nigeria, and I love Nigerians. Sentiments before reasons. There are no countries where development was forced. Be it India, Malaysia or anywhere in the west. You first need to get right at home. Develop your own local facilities first. You start with manufacturing small parts then large parts come in. A country that cannot manufacture a simple standard quality headlamp or bulb. India, Indonesia, Malaysia etc that we citing as example did not do it by government fiat. This is 2014 not 1974. We need the infrastructure in place first and foremost. Electricity, Roads, Rail, education etc. India became a technological powerhouse by having a good number highly trained workforce and engineers and a technical infrastructure that enticed western industrialists to come and invest to take advantage of the synergies on offer. Business is never charity. Invest and expect returns. No developed or developing economy can get to the promise land by running on generators. None got dia without a good railway network. All the ingredients are not just ready yet we want to cook the soup. It is not possible. To me this is just a revenue generating and looting gimmmick.

Its only in naija we do things backward. To me the idea behind the policy is to generate more revenue without the backlash. You are banning a product without available alternative. Are the factories on ground not to talk of producing. It will take nothing less than 5 years to build a vehicle assembly plant let alone a manufacturing plant. Its purely a revenue generating gimmick. Clueless and his goons know that Nigerians are bound to make more noise with just an announcement of a tariff hike. Why not hide under a development policy? Where are the so call manufacturers, where is the power to run the plants, where are the support factories to the the main plant. You don't just create an industry on paper and it works just like that. You need all kinds of inputs, material. No car plant would locate in a country without first having a major component manufacturer on ground. Do we have credible manufacturer of common headlamps bulb? A lot goes into car manufacturing or assembling. Is it generator that they would take to run the plants. ITS IS PURELY A REVENUE GENERATION GIMMICK.
