Congratulations OP, this post actually brought me here. I believe so much in showing gratitude, its a beautiful thing. A french philosopher Volitaire, said ' Appreciation makes what is excellent in others(the benefactor) belong to us(beneficiary) as well. I will advise you to give a gift based on his personality, thank God he was your colleague. Think and find out what will be useful to him. If he's the religious type then some religious literature may suffice, on the other hand, a scarce perf may make him feel good if he's a perf freak.. You get it.. Congrat once again.

IslamRe: Islamic Cleric Declares On Going World Cup Haram by prodam(m): 12:00pm On Jun 30, 2014
What do you derive from taking pain and energy to research issues on a religion other than yours with the sole aim of causing chaos through baseless arguments. It would have been better and tenable if your arguments were logical and factual or a quest for enlightenment. I will advise you and yor cohorts to desist from this as it will not make you any better but rather allow religious issues becloud your reasoning. The result of this is inability to function well in the society since you wont see any good in the work /activity of a muslim friend.

It is an advantage to be educated and its obvious you are. On the other hand, it could be ignominous also to find an educated one engaging in trivial issues centering on collecting articles of one religion and using that as a justification for criticism and condemnation.

Each time people like you ask me issues mostly about bokoharam and Islam, I feel disappointed and almost loose my voice trying to explain. In the course of my explanation or most times as a conclusive point, I ask a question, that before the advent or promiscuity of boko-haram attacks, what do you think of muslims and even people in the north (predominantly muslim areas). Voila, all sort of sweet things will be said about muslims and how nice hausas are and all that. I would then go further to ask them what do they think is the cause of the sudden change, obviously the reply will be a momentary pause and later an 'I dont know' pushes out. I will thereafter ask them to align their thougths on that with my earlier points and also make research on their own, afterall it is all for knowledge.

Thank you for reading, and I hope this helps.

<< Salam Alykum Poster, i appreciate the fact that you air opinions as regards issues of the deen. However, your article indicate your own inferences( arising from your own apppreciation of islamic teachings and emotions) with little or no reference to either the Quran or hadiths. It might interest you to know that issue on polygamy is a clear one and not all can give opinions like this, even if it was controversial. Ma'asalam >>

Yoruba, the Pride of the African Culture..

www.nairaland.com/1425941/role-culture-creating-better-future

We africans really need to appreciate what we have by nature. Ranging from resources to tradition and general idiosyncracy.
All ethnic groups in Africa have something in common: We are Africans.

@ademola

That's it.
One shouldn't be influenced by the society we find ourselves today.

If it is gotten right @ the family level, then we have gotten it right already.

Continue bro.
CultureRe: The Role Of Culture In Creating A Better Future: The ‘omoluabi’ Concept by prodam(op): 2:36pm On Dec 01, 2013
Definitely you are making points by capitalising on the negative part of the laws which were made by fellow men- like you and I based on their understanding of the unseen and to the best of their mental faculty. You are citing from a few cultural practises which definitely forms a minority of the entire cultural practises.
Modernisation and civilisation should however as it leads to advancement in technology also help in filtering the cultural practises rather than replacing them with immorality.
Today, there is democracy. We all agree it is better especially when practised to the letter.
And a few other results of modernisation and civilisation that have actually helped in making life better.
Unfortunately, in this 21st century, it is a an entirely new era. Happenings around the world evidently gives on a clue.
The peace we lack today I must tell you is a result of not respecting our diversity and cultural backgrounds. What is the cause of racism? What is the cause of discrimination in religion? What is the cause of gay or lesbianism?..they say 'it is our lives, we are in the world, nothing is new, let's live the fast life'

My brother, a lot of issues mehn..
CultureRe: The Role Of Culture In Creating A Better Future: The ‘omoluabi’ Concept by prodam(op): 12:28pm On Dec 01, 2013
Yeah, you have a point MD.
Actually, to every problem there is always an alternative problem.
It is of no doubt that individualism and materialism are the bane of our society. It has done more harm than good. Everyone believes he lives by no specified rules, no standard or a medium to keep their characters on check. So anyone does anything to satisfy his pleasure. Without minding the laws of the land or whether someone else is affected. The erroneous idea of 'money is everything' has destroyed self-esteem and the virtue of the african culture and traditions.

Also, the idea of individualism is closely related to capitalism. There will be oppression. The mighty, rich and more privileged will enjoy at the expense of others.

Let everyone's culture be respected. Let the laws of the 'land' be effective.
CultureRe: The Role Of Culture In Creating A Better Future: The ‘omoluabi’ Concept by prodam(op): 10:33am On Dec 01, 2013
The world has turned into something else.
Everything is upside down. Nudity is celebrated, chastity is now an object of mockery. Only a few live by core moral values or even good social ethics.

We really need to go back to the basis, and retrace our advancement from one generation to another

Hello y'all, I am the guy who is concerned about his sister's screening - an MBBS fresher.

I went with her yesterday and waited till when they were sent out, but couldn't achieve anything. Today , she went alone and got there around 6:15am..till around 9, the screening has not started. Even when it started, from communication with her so far, it has not been progressive. She is still where she has been since they entered the hall.

Are MBBS peeps here who are currently in the screening hall facing same? Cos she said MBBS freshers have been neglected since the beginning of the screening today.
Thanks y'all..

ProgrammingRe: Java Programmers; I Need Your Help Urgently Pleaseeeee by prodam(m): 11:43pm On Nov 20, 2013
Your feelings are understandable, simply due to ur eagerness, being overzealous and height of curiosity.

Well, you can't just help it but take one step @ a time..(Jordin Sparks sang that too).
Chidave, its good you are here and have heard about swing, which will solve most of your problems on graphical user interface(GUI).
Read more n wildly. With in-depth knowledge, creativity and magic happen.

For a start, get past the command prompt thing, get NetBeans IDE, get a good java book, one with a pragmatic approach. + google is ur wife for now.

Hope this helps.

Car TalkRe: Massive Traffic Jam At Ejigbo-ikotun Axis by prodam(m): 10:43am On Nov 15, 2013
We're used to the massive traffic jam. The one at night is even worse. They are alternative routes, people who know them do no spend much time in the mess.
Going through 7/8 can get u to iyana ejigbo straight. Though, easier when you're not going. With a private car. Since when have I stopped using car within this axis on weekdays. Fashola bike is there and if you have the guts take public bike but be ready to stay strong when being chased by the Police.

Better still, follow the danfos, they know better.

The same EFCC we have lost confidence in?..
BTW, is it beyond the jurisdiction of the legislative arm to check-mate the executive?
Is this how the transformation agenda of this current administration works?
Youths are at home due to the ineptitude on the part of this same government with false claims that the Nation doesn't have enough money to revitalise its universities-the place where tomorrow leaders will be trained, the same place they all passed through, yet a huge sum of amount was approved and used to satisfy the superfluous needs of an individual, a public servant for that matter.
PoliticsRe: Corruption, Cause Of Nigeria’s Insecurity – Carrington by prodam(m): 9:20am On Oct 22, 2013
For those of you saying we know it, we know that. You knew it and you have failed to provide a solution to it, that means you know nothing. The first step in solving a problem is to first identify and understand that problem.
If all this while, we still have some people, mostly youths who still condone this current government and can still give up their lives to make sure they rule again, then we don't know anything.
it is because of the fact that we don't know anything, that caused a sympathizer to intervene.
Thank him and stop insulting him.
Car TalkRe: Passengers & Goods Loaded Together In A BRT Bus At Idumota (Pictures) by prodam(m): 10:00pm On Oct 04, 2013
We are the cause of our predicament, from small to bigger ones. The government performed its function, its now incumbent upon the people to make good use of the facilities and report any irregularities to the authority. Well, this is one of the many challenges in managing a city like lagos especially in times of transformation like this from a mere city to a mega city which the present administration is handling.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Near Self Sufficiency In Power Generation by prodam(m): 8:22am On Oct 03, 2013
Fashola is an alien..
That's why he is acting so different, others are featuring in the news for one politicking reason or the other, he is busy shaping a future for lagos. I hope other states would learn from this by voting in credible leaders in the next general elections.
