For breeders and pet lovers who aspire to own and cohabit more than two dogs, especially a mix of different breeds, cohabiting in peace and harmony is actually very possible...

For starters, i'd advice you introduce the dogs into your kennel at the puppy stage. If all these dogs grow up together, they develop this bond hence it minimizes the probability of dog fights. If at all there are any, it will be minimal and won't be a fight to death.

A simple explanation...
For someone who plans to go into breeding and plans on cohabiting several breeds:

1) Introduce the weaklings first...especially the small breeds like Lhasa apso and Co.
2) After a while, introduce the large breeds, one at a time

Essence of step 1 is to get the small breed (e.g Lhasa apso) well acquainted with the environment. She sees herself as the only dog in the house. Loneliness becomes her pal because its not possible the owner gives her maximum attention. Allow her stay till like 6-7 months of age before stage 2 is effected.

Essence of Step 2: Introducing a large breed (e.g boerboel) into the kennel at the puppy stage. Here the Lhasa apso sees the new pup as her own kid. She personally trains him, she sees him as her only companion. They both build a bond together. The new pup on the other hand sees the Lhasa as her guardian not forgetting their age difference. He remains in total submission to the older dog.

To introduce any other large breed, continue this trend.

SUMMARY: All dogs continue living in one accord as a family. They operate as a pack irrespective of breed, they live as a family. If at all there is any fight, it won't be anything more than mere scratches and all...Please note that there isn't any particular rule surrounding this method. it's just something I've tried over the years, and it has worked for me so far. There are also other rules surrounding this method like not feeding them in the same plate, eradicating any for of competition amongst them and all...

First, the lhasa was anew dog, barely 3wks in my house. A very silly dog that wants to bite evn the owner.

I have a samoyed that was in thesame room at the time. The samoyed has been home for close to a year now, and no fights.

Having a dog is one great thing, spending time with your dog is another thing to consider.



You can never realize the full benefits of having a dog until you spend time with your dog; realize the true reason why its said that dogs are man's best friends.

Spending time with your dog means knowing early when your dog is sick, knowing little changes in your dogs(eye color, poop texture, body temperature, shedding, etc). This helps you know when to call your vet and save your dear friend's life.

Spending time with your dog also helps you have a happy dog, who trusts your every move and knows your mood. Communicating daily with your dog makes your dog know your likes and dislikes and adjust as expected.

Dogs need your attention; some dogs have been reported to do silly things to draw attention, like pooping in the room when they know quite well you don't like it.

Spending time with your dogs could be 2 hrs to however time you have; after work, weekends and all. walk your dogs, communicate with them, love them.

as good as it is, there are some foods you cant feed your dogs.

most people care less of what vitamins or resource they get from the foods they eat. as long as the tummy is full right?

just like feeding a little baby, you have to care about vitamins and minerals...cos the baby cant tell you when he/she is sick. same as dogs.

but ive seen some local dogs live fine and some 'other' dogs have big problems...so i guess beeing too careful is not too good.

in conclusion, a mix of both would work very fine...dry food and home foods. dont just leave your dog at one type of food. try varieties.

dont forget to notice the foods your dog dont like....some dogs throw up after taking yam, one of my dogs doesnt like pork...etc.
