Dear pokosimani, based on the widely divergent views expressed regarding a company like Huawei, I suggest you mention the name of your new employer. This is a faceless forum and there is no risk to your prospects. Mentioning the specific company will enable you to get experiential feedback from those who have worked or are currently working with them. You need such feedback to make a properly informed decision using Cost/Benefit analysis. Best of luck! pokosimani: |

Family / Suspicious Wife Jailed For Going Through Husband's Phone Without Permission by prof2007: 2:17am On Apr 14, 2021 |
The incident occured in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which has very strict privacy laws forbidding anyone from secretly looking at other people’s phone or computer data. The unnamed woman – an Arab expatriate in the UAE- is reported to have checked her husband’s mobile phone after becoming suspicious he was having an affair. This did not go down well with her husband who filed charges against her, causing her to be prosecuted under the UAE’s cybercrime laws. The woman, who was in her 30s, appeared before Ras Al Khaimah Court where she admitted to the charges. In her defence, however, she blamed her husband for having an ‘illicit affair’ with a woman he used to text and talk to frequently. The woman’s lawyer, Eman Sabt, told the court his client tried very hard over 9 years to have a blissful marital life, but the husband cheated on her. He further argued that his client did not mean to harm him or anyone else, adding that the husband had willingly given her his mobile phone and asked her to check it – which she didn’t out of trust. She wanted to avoid any misunderstanding. However, the wife’s suspicions grew when her husband started receiving regular phone calls and texts, which forced her into checking his cell phone without him knowing. She was said to have then transferred pictures and chats to her phone, using WhatsApp, to show her siblings. She claimed her husband had given her his password and allowed her to look at his phone since she had caught him chatting with other women before. The defence lawyer concluded by saying that his client did not have any criminal intent and refused to divulge any of her marital disputes – even during the five counselling sessions held in court to amicably settle the litigation. The court found the wife guilty of breaching the privacy of her husband under criminal penal code No. 212 and the cybercrime law, Federal Decree-Law No. 5 of 2012, article No 21, which stipulates that a person “…shall be punished by imprisonment of a period of at least 6 months and a fine not less than Dh150,000 (N16m) and not in excess of Dh500,000 (N52m) or either of these two penalties whoever uses a computer network and/or electronic information system or any information technology means for the invasion of privacy of another person in other than the cases allowed by the law…” The court sentenced the woman to 3 months in jail but gave her the option of paying a fine of 150,000 dirhams (£28,000; US$41,000, N16m). The court also ordered that the suspicious wife should be deported from the UAE. Under the UAE’s strict cyber laws, it is considered a violation of an adult’s personal online privacy if any of their information is looked at in secret by a partner, friend, relative, parent or work colleague. Even with married couples, it is still an offence for either husband or wife to search the other’s phone, even if they suspect their spouse of cheating. Sports / Edo Deputy Governor Makes History, Wins Edo 2020 Gold Medal by prof2007: 7:38am On Apr 13, 2021 |
Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu on Monday entered the history books as the country’s first major political office holder to win a football gold medal at the National Sports Festival, after leading Team Edo to a 3-2 win over Team Lagos in the final of the men’s football event of the 20th edition in Benin City. Shaibu, who is also the Chairman, Local Organising Committee of the festival, came on with 5 minutes left to play, with Edo leading, and helped protect the scoreline, following a late onslaught by their opponents. Team Edo came from 2 goals down to beat Lagos, with Solomon Osagie grabbing the winner from the penalty spot in the 76th minute in the final encounter played at the sports complex of the University of Benin. There were loud cheers as Shaibu warmed up before he was brought on in the 85th minute. Speaking after the game, the Deputy Governor said, “I’m excited that Team Edo won, but for me, it is Lagos and Team Edo that won because it is a unity game. Both teams were very tactical and good. From two goals down, my boys equalised and went on to win with the God of football on our side.” SOURCE: https://punchng.com/shaibu-makes-history-wins-edo-2020-gold/

Health / 11 Health Benefits Of Beans by prof2007: 1:43pm On Apr 12, 2021 |
Though they've been around for centuries, beans are a modern-day superfood. Why? Let's count the ways: 1. HEART-HEALTHY Beans are "heart healthy" because they contain abundance of soluble fiber which can lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. If you prefer canned beans, you can ditch up to 40% of the sodium by rinsing them in water. 2. LOW FAT Most beans are about 2 to 3% fat and contain no cholesterol, unless processed or prepared with other ingredients, such as lard. (Check labels to see what else may be in the package or can.) 3. PROTEIN About 1/2 cup of beans provides 7 grams protein, same amount as 1 ounce of chicken, meat or fish. Vegetarians, vegans and individuals who seldom eat meat, poultry, or fish can count on beans as an alternative choice. 4. BLOOD SUGAR BALANCE With a low glycemic index, beans contain a beautiful blend of complex carbohydrates and protein. Because of this, beans are digested slowly, which helps keep blood glucose stable and may curtail fatigue and irritability. 5. CUT CANCER RISK Scientists recommend that adults consume 3 cups of beans per week to promote health and reduce risk of chronic diseases like cancer. That owes to their abundance of fiber and antioxidants. 6. BOWEL MOVEMENT Filled with fiber, beans can promote regularity by preventing constipation. To maximize your meal, be sure to accompany high-fiber foods with ample fluids like still or sparkling water. Weighing in at 5 to 8 grams of fiber per 100 grams (3 ounces), beans are ideal for those who are sensitive to gluten, a natural protein found in products containing wheat, rye, barley, and sometimes oats. If you do have food allergies, however, check the food label or contact the manufacturer to be sure the product is safe. 7. THEY SATISFY Because beans are metabolized more slowly than other complex carbs, they may aid weight loss by keeping us feeling full without being excessively high in calories. 8. CCONVENIENT Canned, frozen or dry, beans are a breeze to purchase, prepare, and store. They even come in flour form. 9. WALLET-FRIENDLY Beans are the least expensive source of protein, especially when compared to fresh meat. 10. NUTRIENT-RICH Aside protein, complex carbs and fiber, beans contain a powerhouse of nutrients including antioxidants, vitamins and minerals such as copper, folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium and zinc. Beans can help you step up to a more complete plate. 11. VERSATILE They can be incorporated into a main dish (chili), side dish (rice and beans), appetizer (soup) or snack (dip). It's easy to be creative when you have kidney beans, pinto beans, black beans, lima beans, black-eyed peas, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), split peas and lentils in your pantry. Take advantage of their various shapes, sizes and colors when planning meals. SOURCE (abridged): https://www.huffpost.com/entry/beans-health-benefits_n_1792504 1 Like 1 Share

Autos / This Tiny Car Beat Tesla’s Model 3 As Best-selling EV In The World For Jan/feb by prof2007: 12:53pm On Apr 12, 2021 |
The Hong Guang Mini EV edged out Tesla’s Model 3 as top-selling electric vehicle in the world in January and February 2021. Not a small feat for the relatively new hatchback. More than 36,000 of the tiny cars sold in January, compared to about 21,500 Model 3s, and the Hong Guang sold just over 20,000 units in February, compared to just under 13,700 Tesla 3s. The diminutive vehicle is made under a joint partnership between China’s state-owned SAIC Motor, Wuling Motors, and US carmaker General Motors, and is locally referred to simply as Wuling. The Hong Guang Mini EV sells in China only for 28,800 yuan (about $4,500 or N1.8m). It claims to get 170 km (roughly 106 miles) per charge, and can reach a top speed of 100 km per hour or 62 miles per hour. Its specs include a wheelbase of 76.4 inches, and it is just under 115 inches long, 59 inches wide, and stands about 64 inches tall. Its total weight is about 1,466 pounds. In other words, it’s tall but skinny. Still, the manufacturer claims it can seat 4 people, and the rear seats fold down if you need storage space. For something very small, presumably. The 2021 base model of Tesla’s Model 3 EV on the other hand, gets more than 250 miles per charge, and its sticker price starts at just under $40,000. It has a wheelbase of 113 inches, is 185 inches long, 73 inches wide and about 57 inches tall. The base Model 3 weighs around 3,500 pounds. The Hong Guang Mini EV launched last summer and was a surprise success, but is still only sold in China. Some reports suggest it may come to other markets eventually, but the US is likely low on the list. It is cute, though. Crime / Why I Organised Kidnap Of 3 Bank Managers – Driver by prof2007: 9:27am On Apr 10, 2021 |
A former driver with one of the nation’s banks, Mr. Owes Okpaka, arrested for organising abductions of 3 managers of the bank, has revealed the reason for his action. Okpaka explained that the years he worked as a driver with the bank made him know that bank managers were rich and good candidates for abduction for ransom. His theory was validated when he and his hastily recruited gang members abducted 3 bank managers and scooped a whopping N50m ransom. The ransom was paid in foreign currencies in 3 stashes on 3 different occasions. The bank managers are Daniel Imani, Mrs. Isioma and Mrs. Zowa. Okpaka, a graduate of Oghara Polytechnic, Delta State, said: “I used to work with Ogonu branch of the bank as a driver, but resigned in January 2021. IRT Operatives arrested me because I masterminded kidnap of 3 managers working in my former place of work. ‘‘My gang members are; Victor, Kevwe and others. "I was the person that brought the 3 kidnap jobs involving the 3 bank managers. The first person we kidnapped was Daniel. I monitored his movements and gave his location to my gang members. Daniel was the bank manager of Urhobo College branch in Warri. We kidnapped him in October 2020. Mrs. Zowa was the manager of the Ogonu Warri branch, while the 3rd victim, Mrs. Isioma was manager of Effurun branch." The gang was smashed by Operatives of the Force Intelligence Response Team, (IRT), Delta State branch. Okpaka was arrested along with Lawrence Kevwe Egagah, Victor Dominic Ovo, Usobotie Sylvester and Alex Okoun. Following Imani’s complaint, IRT commenced investigation and discovered that Okpaka masterminded the kidnappings. Okpaka scooped N15 Million as his share in the 3 operations. Okpaka recalled that Daniel was in their custody for a week before ransom was paid for his release. Another suspect, Ovo, said: “I was arrested in my house at Oghara. At first I didn’t know why I was arrested until I got to the police station. We were 5 in number that usually go on the kidnap operations. We have one pump action rifle loaded with live cartridges and an AK47 rifle loaded with one magazine containing 10 -15 live ammunition. ‘‘I used my share of the money to offset my debts. Aside kidnappings, I’ve also been involved in armed robberies within Ondo State and other South-West states. It was Kevwe and Monday, now late, that usually organised the robbery operations. Most of our targets are car owners and we usually go for operations with guns and cutlass. I have gone for several robberies and at the time I was arrested, some live ammunition was recovered in my house. The ammunition belongs to me and I use it for my job.” Kevwe, on his part, said when police came to arrest him, he had tried to escape but was shot on his leg. He was arrested last month in his house at Agbaro area of Delta State. Sylvester denied taking part in the kidnappings, but confessed to have assisted the gang in procuring rifles. He also admitted to have collected N80,000 from a member of the gang. He said: “I was arrested after the police arrested Kevwe. Kevwe mentioned that I was the person that provided the guns for the gang.” SOURCE (abridged): https://www.newtelegraphng.com/why-i-organised-abductions-of-three-bank-managers-driver/ |

Globally celebrated Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has shared her thoughts about Nigerian women's brand of feminism. In a recent interview, Chimamanda was heard advising young Nigerian women to stop using feminism to justify their wickedness. According to her, these days a lot of Nigerian women hide under the umbrella of feminism just to be mean and nasty. “I often say to young Nigerian feminists ‘Please do not use feminism to justify your wickedness’. Because some of these young women when I’m talking to them they sound really mean, and I say, ‘you know what? this is not feminism, you’re just really nasty’.” SOURCE: https://www.gist mania.com/talk/topic,493475.0.html

Surprisingly, it seemed to be equally effective. Perhaps that is because the sweet syrups attract ants to the fields, which then eat the eggs and larvae of insects pests. 1 Like
