parisbookaddict: did obama create jobs, yes. did he bailout the auto industry, yes. what has that got to do with the argument.
The Original Post suggested that trump had little or nothing to do with the 1 million jobs created since he took office. An easily disputable lie. Even weeks before his inauguration he had already negotiated over 20 thousand jobs, he was even in talks with softbank which pledged billions in new investments in america. He threaten companies leaving the US with tariffs and higher taxes , he also named and shamed them, which led to many of them cancelling their plans to relocate. He pledged to remove obamacare fines/taxes which was a burden to small businesses, he removed unnecessary obama era regulations, he pledged to reduce cooprate tax from 30 to 15 percent all of which had the intended side effect to building business confidence in the US and encourage new investments. that is why 1 million new jobs suddenly appeared in 7 months which beat all economic forecasts.
by the way obama simply gave the auto industry billions in bail out funds which made america go further into debt. it saved further job losses and did not necessarily create significant number of new jobs. it appears you dont know much of what you are saying. Yarn dem make dem learn |

Politics › Re: FG Uncovers 60,000 Ghost Workers, Says Osinbajo by ProfDumbledor(m): 7:16pm On Jul 01, 2017 |
LasgidiOnline: No fewer than 60,000 ghost workers have been uncovered by the Federal Government since the introduction of the bank verification number (BVN), according to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.
Osinbajo was giving an update on government’s war on corruption at the 5th Annual Christopher Kolade Lecture on Business Integrity in Lagos on Thursday night.
This is almost twice the 33,000 figure given by Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun in October last year.
The minister said at the time that the removal of the names of the 33000 ghost workers from payrolls of federal government’s ministries, departments and agencies had helped in reducing the wage bill from N166billion to N142billion.
The acting president did not say on Thursday how much government now saves with the uncovering of the 60000 ghost workers.
But he said the closure of over 20, 000 government bank accounts and the introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) has brought a great deal of sanity into handling of public funds.
Also yielding positive results, according to him, are ‘’getting all our armed forces personnel on the electronic human resource payroll to prevent scams in the service,’’ and the whistleblower policy.
Osinbajo said the Buhari admnistration would not relent in the anti-corruption war, although he stressed that the war was better fought by preventing it than trying to recover stolen funds.
He cited the $15billion arms funds allegedly stolen during the Jonathan presidency and the frustrations government currently faces in recovering stolen funds stashed abroad.
His words: “In our investigations into defence spending, we discovered 15 billion dollars unaccounted for, with no guarantee that we will ever be able to recover it.
“You can imagine the damage done by that corrupt act.
“You need to engage forensic consultants and hire other experts; even then, you will only have some hope of recovering some of what has been lost.”
On repatriating stolen money from abroad, he said: “Many countries are reluctant to return proceeds of corruption by introducing legal obstacles of different kinds to ensure that we do not get back the money.
“There is a long list of ‘what if’ – what if we were able to do something or invest even half of that money in economic or infrastructure projects before it disappeared?
“If some of that money went into boosting our reserves, our exchange rate will not be where it is today; so there lies evidence that corruption is cheaper to prevent than to cure”.
The acting president said that the negative impact of corruption on human lives and development could never be fully reversible.
Osinbajo urged Nigerians neither to condone corruption nor celebrate those indulging in it.
“Corruption is the robbery of the wealth of the nation, and thieves exist in every tribe or religion,’’ he said.
Osinbajo said that the Federal Government would continually seek ways to make it harder for government funds to be stolen or diverted.
“The solution really is to ensure stiffer control to prevent fraud and corruption,” he said.
Osinbajo said that the presidency would ensure close working relationship with the judiciary and ensure that the judiciary itself “is free of corruption to successfully prevent corruption”.
“We will not succeed in preventing corruption to a significant extent unless the acts of corruption are met with appropriate levels of sanctions and deterrence,” he said.
The acting president described Kolade as an outstanding man of integrity in both the public and private sectors.
Dr Christopher Kolade is a former Director General of the old Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC),ex-Managing Director of Cadbury Nigeria PLC and former Nigerian High Commissioner to London.
The lecture was entitled: “Prevention is Better than Cure Even on the Issue of Corruption’’.
It was organised by the Integrity Organisation Ltd., an anti-corruption, research and advocacy organisation.
Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State said that corruption had collapsed businesses and societies.
Ambode, represented by his deputy, Dr Idiat Adebule, said that more measures should be put in place to prevent corruption.
The governor described Kolade as a man who had not compromised standards, saying that the lecture in his honour would contribute to value reorientation for sustainable prosperity.
In his remarks, Kolade said: “It is sad that we have made integrity our enemy which is why this administration is trying to fight corruption, but preventing it is better than curing it.
“My prayer for this country is that we will actually get to a point where we intensify our energies to apply prevention rather than looking for a cure that we ourselves dilute by our own behaviour.
“We all need to continue to build the good name of this country by securing a firm place for integrity as our way of life and norm in our communities.’’
In his keynote address, Mr Nick Leeson, an international speaker, said that integrity and good name would attract investors, development and growth to any business.
“It is very easy to get another job, but not easy to get another reputation.
“We, therefore, need to be careful and prevent anything that can soil good name or integrity,” Leeson said.
Dr Kehinde Bolaji, Team Leader, United Nations Development Programme, also said that preventing corruption was easier than addressing its consequences.
“Corruption steals resources, hinders development and threatens democracy and the rule of law.
“In Nigeria, the level of corruption calls for concern which is why our organisation is working closely with the government in its anti-corruption crusade to promote transparency, integrity and good governance,” Bolaji said.

Regardless of the failings of NDDC in paying scholars promptly, the scholarship is still a golden opportunity to be educated outside the shores of Nigeria. Give it your very best. It will bring life changing opportunity to some people.
Note that this aptitude test is only one part of the assessment that make up the entire scholarship process. The higher you score, the brighter your chance of getting it. Another important factor is the correlation between your first degree and your proposed degree. This is one factor applicants over look and have paid darely for. I have seen people score so high in the test but end up not getting it because of lack of correlation in their courses.
Regardless of how people will want to paint this scheme as lacking in merit and credibility, I must say that such can't be totally written off, but there is to a large extent regard for merit. Ensure you give it your best, and let whatever faith you believe in work out the rest for you.
On a final note - ensure you don't delete the text message (invite) you were sent, as the codes and numbers stated in it will come handy during the interview process. You will need to fill them on a form you will be given during the oral interview.
Wishing all invitees great success. What about life/biomedical sciences? What do we read? |

Obaiyski: Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Shehu Sani, has listed 10 factors he said were working against the unity and progress of Nigeria.
The lawmaker listed the factors as follows:
1.Dependence on one major source of revenue from a section of a country, which logically profiles and categorises other sections as parasitic.
2.Fading memory of the tragedy of secession and war: Lost lessons of history.
3.Manipulation of sectional, religious and ethnic sentiments and sensibilities of Nigerians by the political class.
4.The slow death of the nationalistic and patriotic spirit in the hearts and minds of Nigerians, evidenced with the perennial indifference to October 1st Independence Day celebrations.
5.A succession of failed governments, economic paralyses and widening gulf between the have and the have nots.
Federal government to supply 3 million prepaid meters to Nigerians – Fashola
6.The rise of a new restive and angry generation without value for, interest in or sense of history.
7.Retention of a national political and socio economic culture which emphasises on sharing of national cake as against the baking of national cake. A bogus federal structure of largesse.
8.Deliberate or negligent suffocation of institutions established to promote national unity e.g. NYSC, Federal Government Colleges, etc.
9.Narcissistic and forlorn ideas and fantasy of chauvinists and ethnic champions dreaming of carving out mini nations along tribal lines.
10.Inequities of a pyramid economic structure; a rich few over a poor many.
Meanwhile, Sani has advocated for an ad-hoc Committee that would address agitations of various groups in Nigeria.

bkool7: 1. To all Igbos clamouring for Biafra, have you built up your homeland to go back to? 2. Never choose to start a fight you can’t finish. So what happened in Ore won’t happen again. Have sources of food, plenty ammunition, good roads, high citizen morale, foreign and local support in high places. Nnamdi Kanu 3. There is only one way a coup can end. Some will emerge as victors, some will be vanquished. He who has the victory has the upper hand. Biafra was an indirect result of the 1966 coup. If the coup had been successful, there won’t be Biafra. 4. Fighting a war on selfish interests alone. The war is doomed to fail from start. 5. Trying to leave a nation is an act of rebellion, and will be treated as such. Let no one fool you. It is causing friction in a country that is barely managing to hold itself together.
Way forward:
1. Discuss, discuss and discuss till an acceptable solution is reached. War is not the way. 2. Leave Italy refugee camps, leave South Africa, leave Malaysia, leave the north where your shops are burnt, families jailed and killed, destinies truncated, where you insist on staying all in the name of business and "ego". You live to fight another day. The Jews didn't build a formidable nation, Israel, till they came home from different parts they have been scattered to.

Politics › UK Uninterested In Whether Nigeria’s President Is Alive Or Dead by ProfDumbledor(op): 11:24am On May 22, 2017 |
Nigeria is one of the most important countries in the world. It’s by far the largest country in Africa; it’s the fastest growing economy there by a long chalk. Nigerians all over the world hold positions of power and importance. From a UK perspective, one of the largest contingents of secret service (‘Mi6’) in the world is in Nigeria. Why? Because more than anywhere else, Nigeria represents a confluence of developing and developed world, feudal religious instincts and modernity. In many ways, Nigeria’s progress is Africa’s progress. So if there’s a big thing going on in Nigeria, the UK knows about it alright. Two years ago, Nigeria held a presidential election in which something remarkable happened. The underdog (albeit a former general and temporary leader of the nation) won and the incumbent president politely conceded then stood down. Nigeria presented a profoundly responsible face to the world. President Buhari took office promising to clean up Nigeria’s business and culture and move Nigeria into a new era. And he’d started to do just that. Notably, he recently succeeded in having the kidnapped Chibok girls released. I have an interest in all of this. During Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign, I organised supportive meetings on his behalf at Westminster; always on behalf of Nigerians and never off my own bat. I had nothing personal against his decent predecessor, but I felt that the new ere of politics Muhammadu Buhari represented, was a good thing. I also felt that successive UK governments, and the UK parliament, had given the (now previous) Nigerian government too easy a ride. President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was talking a good game but doing little of any substance to help the people of Nigeria. Ultimately, of course, it was a matter for Nigerians. Not all have been fans of President Buhari, but most today recognise his essential decency and his determination to help Nigeria to the world status it deserves. For two days, some sources have been reporting that President Buhari has died in a London hospital. Other sources, including the presidency, have been denying this, but not very convincingly. A general rule of thumb for any leader anywhere is that if people think you’re dead then you get yourself on the telly alive, immediately. So maybe there’s a bit of a temporary cover-up involved? And if there is, it’s hard to imagine the UK’s security service (‘Mi5) doesn’t know about it and have folk all over the place inside the hospital in question. The most striking thing in all of this is that the UK media doesn’t seem to give a toss either way – few outlets have publish anything at all on the subject. It’s Africa and not a famine; it’s Nigeria but not corruption, you see. No NGO comment or interest necessary. UK coverage of Africa is dominated by white journalists who pop from country to country and claim special knowledge. The news agencies are populated by young white journalists working in effect as stringers, often little more than kids taking a year out having a wee adventure. The NGOs who work mainly on Africa are so white it’s a disgrace. Perhaps if each employed a few more Africans we’d get some decent and serious coverage of that continent. For now, we can just wait and wonder on the fate of a president in London. http://www.ericjoyce.co.uk/2017/05/nigeria-its-for-a-president-to-prove-hes-alive-not-for-his-people-to-prove-he-isnt/ |
Politics › Eric Joyce A UK Politician Makes A Strong Case For Buhari's Rumored Death by ProfDumbledor(op): 10:58am On May 22, 2017*. Modified: 11:25am On May 22, 2017 |
I wrote this yesterday about President Buhari of Nigeria. There’s been a lot of interest in the blog in Nigeria. I’ll answer a few of the key points raised, here. First, if you’re a president then it’s up to you to show people you’re alive and well – it’s not up to your people to prove the opposite. Every politician in the world knows this. A statement from a PR guy doesn’t cut it. Angry ripostes from supporters don’t cut it. Only your personal appearance cuts it. Second, if your’e a president and you’re not well, then a doctor needs to come out of the hospital and explain to your nation what’s up. This let’s everyone, including your people and the markets, know if your alive at all, alive enough to recover or have just sprained an ankle. Unless these things apply, then there will be shenanigans. For example, a dead person will be kept hooked up to a machine and advisers, politicians, traders, all the people ‘in the know’ will be jockeying for position and none of the regular people of the country will know anything about it. Nigerians have done themselves proud on the democrtic front in the last few years; this is no time to start accepting bullshit again. Before the last election, I shared a platform in Nigeria with half a dozen ex-prime ministers and ex-presidents, both African and European. After the event, I had dinner with one along with his ambassador. The ambassador gave me a first class analysis of the political situation in Nigeria. The PDP had become unstable but was considered a more stable bet than the new APC. That said, the international diplomatic community thought the rise of a new party of opposition a thoroughly good thing and felt they might win ‘the election after next’. As it turned out, the APC actually won the election and Goodluck Jonathan actually stood down. It was pretty amazing. That doesn’t mean the APC has all the answers. For now, they have the same problem the PDP had when its president died. But they have the additional problem of their opponents now presenting them as rootless, a punctuation mark between the end of one PDP administration and the start of a future one. The dynamics of the government of course mean there’ll be a lot of horse trading going on around the succession if the president is indeed dead. Not a bad idea in future to choose a younger president? Anyway, where’s the Nigerian media? Cowed, maybe? And where’s the UK media? Uninterested, probably, because it’s almost entirely white – in spite of many Africans living in London – and to most UK media folk stories about Africa are boring unless there’s a big famine, terrorism, or a war. But in the end, this is about how Nigeria is on its way to becoming a front-rank nation. That’s good news. Accountability to regular Nigerians about the present situation with the president is a big, big part of that. http://www.ericjoyce.co.uk/2017/05/nigeria-its-for-a-president-to-prove-hes-alive-not-for-his-people-to-prove-he-isnt/ |
