Chigbo55: Greetings House,
Regarding Proof of fund, can bank draft serve as POF? My in-law in Canada said he will open bank draft in my name. I will use it as POF when applying for student visa. Can someone here explain to me how bank draft works?
Nb: I have already secured Admission At Fanshawe College, program start date is September 2026. Bank draft would work if you are already incanada. I have seen it work before also from Nigeria but that was years ago when things were not as tough as they have become. Bank Draft is an instrument just like money. If he pays your fees, that is a stronger support now compared to a bank draft. |

Yoyoky: Happy new year all. Please I have been admitted for a masters degree program in Canada. I and my family have residence permit in Denmark including my spouse who. is working in Nigeria but always visit us. I want to apply for my study permit but I am confused on whether not to add my spouse in the application now while applying with my kids aged 12, 10 and 8. My concern is that my husband will require medical which will delay processing of my study permit. We are considering applying without him now so that he can apply for visitor visa immediately our own permit is granted. Your advice will be appreciated If you have the funds, it is always best to apply as a family as the visa will be processed for everyone at the same time most times. The process for Visitor’s Visa can be unpredictable and might disrupt your family time. It is not uncommon to see the study permit first before the processing of other applications attached. |

Emmaesty: It's quite expensive and I also think it's not as straight forward as French
Please correct me if I am wrong but most people who studied in Canada are eligible for PR under CEC and PNP. Some students who studied the right courses in the right provinces can easily get PNP but those who are unable to get PNP, will have to apply for PR under CEC draws.
The challenge here is that some of them don't have high scores for CEC. The CRS for this category is around 521 or so and some can't meet up with it and have to go back home to get foreign experience or learn French to qualify for French based draws.
This why I said it's harder than french. With study route you just have to be sure of what you are doing. Main issue is most people want to come to Ontario and within Ontario, the big cities. People need to look elsewhere. |

Emmaesty: Bonne année 2026 🙂
You can try switching careers to one of the occupations eligible for the category based draws or explore PNP.
Entry to Canada is becoming more difficult with each passing day so I would advise you to act fast. If the above options don't work for you, you can explore the study route but that is much harder than learning French.
Je vous souhaite le meilleur. Are you sure the study route is harder than French or you mean it’s more expensive? |

smartkester: We are entering 2026, please I'm genuinely asking, Is Canada Express entry still feasible for us looking to migrate without having to write French?. The CRS scores keep increasing everyday. The older one gets the lower the chances. Please who can honestly give some words to this. It's actually tiring at this point. So much money has gone down doing WES and IELTS and yet nothing.
Please don't mention French o Merci |

KingCassy: My sister applied for for PGD in Canada PGD school and declared that bsc is her highest certification. Actually, she already did her masters and was even doing her PhD. She applied for pgd school because it was much cheaper and using bsc, she felt it would be much better. Now she’s done with her PhD and wants to apply for express entry. She’s worried because if she input her highest academic records which is phd, they might see it that she lied in her first application.
Please what can she do? I believe she already know the answer. No need to try anything else other than to stick to what is already on records else otilo. She made a huge mistake from the beginning, having a PhD doesn’t mean you can’t pursue other interests. My spouse is a Medical Doctor but applied for a diploma and was granted study visa then. |

Pandatown: Update after receiving my study permit approval (check my post history for approval testimony)
I arrived 27th December at Toronto Pearson Airport with my TRV to collect my study permit document at CBSA Checkpoint
Documents CBSA asked me to show them:
+ Letter Of Introduction + Letter of Acceptance from my college + PAL letter used in getting the study permit approval + Full Tuition payment of first semester receipt & deposit receipt from offer + Enrolment schedule of class for my Winter intake
Questions I was asked by CBSA after giving them the documents they requested above:
CBSA: You only paid first semester? Me: Yes my college only allows us to per for a full semester at a given time CBSA: Okay. Have you been refused study permit before to Canada? Me: Yes I was the first time CBSA: Why were you refused? Me: I didn't properly show the source of funds for my financial documents CBSA: Who is supporting your studies in Canada? Me: My sister is my sponsor CBSA: Where does your sister live? Me: The US CBSA: How long has she been there and what's her status? Me: She has been there since X year and she is a green card holder CBSA: What's her occupation and how much did she give you for your studies in Canada? Me: She is X occupation and she gave me 45 million naira for tuition and living expenses CBSA: How much is that in CAD Me: About 40,000 CAD at the time of my application CBSA: Have you been to Canada before? Me: No this is my first time CBSA: Do you have any family members in Canada Me: No I don't have any family members in Canada CBSA: Have you travelled to other countries for long term stay before? Me: Yes I studied in Cyprus CBSA: What did you study there? Me: Medicine CBSA: That's good. Why did you decide to pursue Biotechnology in Canada then? Me: I decided I want to go into clinical diagnostics and Pharma in Nigeria after completing my studies in Canada CBSA: Okay. This passport has a lot of pages is this the new Nigerian passport? Me: Yes the new ones valid for 10 years have many pages than the old ones they used to issue CBSA: Okay wait here for a moment CBSA: Here is your study permit read the conditions and confirm your name and birth date. Check your permit expiry date. If you need to extended your study permit do so two months in advance before expiry. Let me know if you have any questions. Me: Okay I have read it and all is accurate and I don't have questions. CBSA: Alright let me stamp your passport and you can be on your way
This is the most grilling experience I have had for a visa haha. Funny thing is the two Asian students in front of me they didn't ask any of them any questions and they just handed them their study permit after seeing their acceptance letter pal and intro letter only.
Hope this can guide anyone that is approved for study on what to bring and questions CBSA may ask you. Good luck. Quite an impressive memory, good thing you got your study permit and thank you for all the information you put out here, that will help and I believe most people should know this. I don’t think you were singled out because you were African just to douse the tension for others. I have seen other nationals being grilled like hell, I have even seen the situation of non admittance for a student from North America while I and my family were asked absolutely nothing, a lady just came to the queue collected our LOI and Passports, asked us to sit down and called us like 30mins later to pick up our permits. Most important thing is to be composed else you will end up like an Asian guy that didn’t know what Province his City is at. |

Favouralltheway: No; I have 1 year work experience in Canada under NOC 42201. Then I have over 5years banking experience in Nigeria. The health category draw I got the nomination for was for the NOC 42201 1yr experience in Canada. If I remove my banking experience in Nigeria, my score will fall below the minimum score for my round. If you listed it as work experience you will need a reference letter, if you are unable to provide a reference you can show payslips, bank statements and offer letters, Tax, Pension etc |

I am travelling in a few days' time, and on my portal, my medicals are still showing passed. I'd be grateful if someone here sends a reply to my message on what I can do. Have the current medical handy and make travel, very unlikely you will be asked that at the border. They care more that you are actually coming to study and know the name of the City, Province you are headed. |

Please, I need your guidance. I’m already in Canada with a study permit for a one-year program starting in January 2026. Please, for those who also came with a one-year program, how did you plan your stay so that you could qualify for a longer PGWP after school? I just want to understand how people in this situation usually handle it and the best way to go about it.
Thank you. There are two ways, change your course to a two year course that is eligible for PGWP at the same institution then apply for study permit extension or start this program then apply for another one year program eligible for PGWP with the same institution starting the following year then apply for study permit extension. |

ColdHunter: Please has anyone ever applied to an Msc at Mount Saint Vincent University and got admitted.
Their process is quite confusing.
First, on the website, it says Nigerian applicant should send a mail to a certain Email address which I did and after several follow ups, it was replied and I was told to send in some documents.
After sending the documents, I received another email with a link to setup a university email.
Now the confusing part is that I didn't do the application myself, neither did I pay any application fee. You mean you weren’t the one who sent in the documents? |

anyanchinye: Please House, I need urgent help!
I am currently applying for my Canadian study permit, and I am sponsoring myself with additional financial support from my cousin. I have CAD $42,000 in my personal savings, and my cousin has an AXA Mansard investment balance of ₦83,000,000. I also have all the supporting documents to prove our family relationship.
My confusion is about what amount to declare as my total available funds. Should I: 1. Combine my full savings with his full investment balance, OR 2. State that he will be supporting me with ₦40,000,000, even though his sponsorship letter does not specify any amount?
His sponsorship letter simply states that he will be supporting me financially but does not mention a specific figure. I am unsure how to present this properly in my Proof of Funds and Letter of Explanation.
Please, I need guidance. What are you going to study and how much is the total cost of your studies? Have you paid your tuition? Is your cousin willing to pay your full tuition or the part that makes the balance of what you have and the CAD you have, are you willing to send to a GIC account after paying your tuition? Also what are your home ties, outside your savings, what must bring you back to Nigeria? If these are not addressed, with the current IRCC, your chances of a refusal are higher than an acceptance. |
