CareerRe: Dangote Refinery Sacks Nigerian Employees For Joining PENGASSAN by Profgordons(m): 6:22pm On Sep 27, 2025
mcquin:
Okay, I’ll engage you as you come across, a colleague.
Now, it is true that Chapter IV contemplates for the freedom of association and the Constitution being grund norm takes precedent over any labor contract, however, the “Dangote situation” is not one negating persons right to Associate but cleverly as his lawyers have termed it, a restructuring of the company.
The question is, does Dangote have a right to restructure, downsize? “Yes,” so long as the terms of Employment Contract are fulfilled to the letter.

This is not an employment that enjoys statutory flavor as it is a private company, the owners therefore can disengage for good, bad or no reason at all. Since there isn’t evidence that sack was because of joining a union, and the courts cannot begin to speculate, Dangote is home and dry.

I look forward to your counter-submission sir.
This is a text book way to describe things. In real word the principles of balance of power, balance of terror will apply. It won’t follow all these processes.

PENGASSAN will employ them.
Banks in Nigeria is running smoothly because their employees are controlled solely by the banks.
They want to bring confusion to someone multi billion dollar investment. Nigeria owns refineries they can work there.
That is why PENGASSAN members go to the bank to withdraw millions and the bank employees who earn peanuts ensure they get paid.

Please guru on this platform. I need input on this situation.

A close family person is here in Canada. He has graduated and currently on pgwp which is expiring in less than two weeks

He got ITA ( health draw ) with a crs score of 472.
He has 1 year canadain experience in health and claimed 2 years foreign experience.

After he got ITA, he discovered that he made a mistake in his Canadian credentials point when he was creating profile.

He recalculated his score after he made the correction of the mistake and then the score reduced below 470 cut off. So technically he may need to decline the ITA

The two years foreign experience is without his NYSC experience. He is thinking he can update his profile after ITA to include NYSC and then claim 3 years foreign experience.

With 1 year Canadian experience and 3 years foreign experience and correct Canada credential his score will be 481.

please help a poor boy. I am not sure of correct answer to him

Can he update his work experience after ITA. His PPA is willing to issue him necessary document to support the nysc experience.

Please he needs help. 🙏
Yes he can update it and also follow it up with a letter of explanation. He should download his posting letter from NYSC site and statement of account showing his salary if he has a sound account officer.

This is a misleading headline. He didn’t say NNPCL produces low value petrol but that given the same feed stock, his refinery can output 54% gasoline while the NNPCL refineries will output 18% gasoline but a higher output of other product called fuel oil. The 18% gasoline will meet required standard. No idea how he came about that efficiency calculation but it means he has insider info on NNPCL operations.

Entering the pool with 1 year of work experience as a doctor is not really the problem—the issue is that the person is likely entering with fewer CRS points. Since they have less than 3 years of work experience, they wouldn’t be able to maximize the points for foreign work experience.

From the perspective of getting called from the pool, the maximum CRS score a Nigerian doctor with 1 year of work experience (Housemanship) could achieve, even after maxing IELTS, would be around 456.

Looking at past draws in the Healthcare and Social Services occupations category, scores below 456 have only been selected 2 out of 10 times. So, if we go strictly by numbers and probability, that gives about a 2-in-10 chance—assuming you’ve maxed IELTS and are at least 29 years old

but in all please always be in the pool and Try to increase your chances PNP French ETC you never know
You are right, the emphasis was on ability to use housmanship as work experience. For the scores, adding social workers to health category may have caused the number of eligible candidates in the pool to increase but that is now drying out. I would expect the health category scores to continue to drop.

So after completing your housemanship (internship), once you have one full year of independent practice or equivalent work experience, you’ll meet the minimum requirement.

⚠️ Note: Housemanship (internship) may not always be accepted as valid skilled work experience for immigration purposes since it’s sometimes classified as training, not independent work. IRCC usually counts post-licensure practice
Housemanship is paid work as the person already has provisional license from MDCN. My spouse used hers and it was counted as work experience successfully. Make sure reference letter covers the pay, working hours and duties.

Dogalmighty17:
NUPENG must not be allowed to blackmail and threaten the government and the economy. Dangote refinery is a private entity and reserves the right to enforce internal conditions as it deems fit.

NUPENG wants to force unionisation in a private refinery and by so doing will want to dictate to Dangote how to relate with drivers under its employ. That is a no-no. Did NUPENG go after Greenfield gas? Has NUPENG gone after Nigerian breweries, coca cola or Guinness? Does NUPENG dictate to any of these companies that they must enforce unionisation of their drivers? Why is NUPENG insisting that Dangote drivers must unionise?
No you have missed the point, according to our labour laws, employees have the freedom of association. No employer should force employees into an agreement that they would not join a union. It is gateway to exploitation.

How will you know it’s RROC that’s handling your application because I summited my study visa application today…
And it was IRCC that sent me an email of confirmation..
Please enlighten me
IRCC is the main body but it has several offices across the world. RROC is located in Ottawa, there is Etobicoke in Toronto area, London, Nairobi etc. the easiest way to know is when you order a GCMS note. You will see the primary and secondary processing office.

So sorry to hear that . For RROC, you have to constantly bombard them with emails else, they may take over 10weeks with your application.
Thats the shocking reality.

Immigration cap may be effecting processing of study permit.
A school in one province have international student admissions drop down to 70 percent.while another university only admitted 10 students for fall semester in 2025.
My ward’s study was refused on a quite flimsy ground but good thing that can be easily addressed but of course she will miss a semester. GCMS showed RROC as the primary processing office while Nairobi was secondary. If most study permits are now being processed by RROC that is usually slow, then it’s going to be tough for most applicants going forward.

Hello Everyone,

I would like to thank JMG for his assistance and support in getting my Canadian study permit. To think I almost withdrew my application but he encouraged me while IRCC took their sweet time.

They literally delayed my application for months because I didn’t attached a birth certificate ( I saw this on the officer’s note when I received my gcms notes a few days go). I attached NPC birth attestation but I guess that wasn’t enough. I proceeded to submit the same birth attestation and a declaration of age affidavit along side a letter of explanation via web form and I got the approval message the next day.

I’m grateful and indebted to JMG for taking time out of his busy schedule to attend to my numerous questions and for helping me submit a strong application.
Congratulations, this is one of the weirdest reasons an application will be delayed as birth certificate is not even a requirement for the application, unlike PR. Good thing you saw that in your GCMS notes. How long did your GCMS notes take to process?

He reapplied on the 28th of July, 2025. For larger context, his first application was on the 6th of June, 2025 and was refused on the 21st of June, 2025 (15 days after). He applied for the GCMS notes which took about 30 days, according to him, the gmcs notes posited that the only reason his application was refused was because the source of funds of his sponsor was poorly documented even though he did GIC of a year's living expenses and had paid one semester tuition fee. Upon seeing the notes, he contacted his sponsor who provided further documents with additional bank statements showing how the sponsor raised his funds. He said he reapplied because the GCMS notes centered on the source of funds and he was sure that with further explanation with documents and bearing in mind that his first refusal came within 15 days/ upfront medicals, that he could get it this time...........
Thank you for the further details. Each application is considered on the basis of its merit and not related to any previous application. This new application will be reviewed by another officer as a new application and it will follow all the normal processes like the first.

Now the issue is some questions looks repeated. They asked for proof of citizenship and I uploaded my siblings pr card, they asked for proof of residency and I uploaded her utility bill. Please what should I upload or what are they asking for “Proof of PR/Citizenship of sibling”?

The current job market IN canada presents significant challenges, with many professionals struggling to secure employment aligned with their career aspirations. While Canada offers an excellent quality of life, the scarcity of job opportunities has forced many to rely on survival roles, such as Uber or food delivery, which barely cover expenses due to the high cost of living. This has created an unsustainable and stressful situation for those aiming for long-term career progression.GOD HELP US ALL
I think the world has changed a lot that it has become imperative for people to be flexible. Even in the US people still struggle so it’s not peculiar to Canada. Till date many people still get jobs before landing Canada and there exist many vacancies in different fields. One must re-skill if necessary. Gone are those days that one will hold unto an educational certificate like a chieftancy title. The research I had referenced in my earlier bashing was determining what is in demand and aligning with it, not trying to force the market to accept you.
