Where Nigeria Politicians, Major Generals, Oil Money And Richest People Live
Welcome to one of the most exclusive and luxurious estates in Abuja — NAF Valley Estate, Asokoro. From massive billionaire mansions to quiet luxury, premium security, and breathtaking architecture, this estate is where Abuja’s elite truly live.
Mariangeles: Farmers in the house, can figs be successfully grown in Nigeria's kind of climate? Especially, around the southern part of Nigeria.
Fig can grow very well in Nigeria. My neighbor in Abuja has planted two trees a few years ago and now fruiting, in fact last month was my first time tasting it. Don’t know if I really like it but it does have some sweetness. I think the problem was that we both could not tell if it was ripe or not.
“The others stepped down and are supporting me and they’re all here, but the only person that didn’t step down and insisted on going to the primaries is Hon. Desmond Elliot. I wish him all the best, and I wish myself luck too. I’m praying that on Wednesday, I emerge as the APC… pic.twitter.com/rV3lDWiqbl
Rahab409: I applied for my study permit alongside my spouse’s open work permit on 5th April 2026. Since Monday, 6th April was a public holiday, I scheduled my biometrics for Tuesday, 7th April, while my spouse completed hers on 9th April 2026.
Surprisingly, we both received approval for our visa applications on that same 9th April 2026 at about 3:55 P, while my spouse’s biometrics appointment was scheduled for 1:00 PM that very day in Lagos.
For context, I had previously handled my UK student visa application for my master’s degree myself, and it was also approved.
So why am I sharing this?
If you need guidance or have questions that haven’t been answered, feel free to drop them here. Others may also benefit, and I’ll do my best to guide you based on my experience.
Getting approval within three working days after submission was honestly unbelievable—I didn’t see it coming.

Disclaimer: I am not an immigration officer. I can only offer guidance based on my personal experience applying for my study permit and my spouse’s open work permit.
I reside in Sweden and I want to pay tuition fee and provide a sponsorship bank statement for my brother in Nigeria to study a Graduate Certificate program in Canada.
Please, I want to know if it’s possible. Must a sponsor reside in Nigeria.
It is good to pay the fees and also do a GIC towards your brother’s living expense. You must also show proof of relationship and trail of how the income you are spending was earned.
IRCC requested the birth certificate for all my family members, I'm the only one applying for the study permit. And this week they requested for my Police clearance Certificate.
Please I need more information from someone who has experienced this or know what it means for my application.
DeevaB: I will be starting college in Halifax this March and I am currently booking my flight. I found a route from Lagos to London,UK and then directly to Halifax.
Can I book this flight and receive my study permit at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, or do I need to arrive first in Toronto or Montreal to get my study permit?
Thank you.
Arriving Halifax suffices, it is an international airport so you will get full boarder services.
kemmyk: Please I need help. I am in canada sponsoring my sister from Naija, I want to open a GIC account for her, now my problem is that I learnt I can’t open the account here and deposit the money directly. Apparently the GIC has to be opened from Nigeria and the money deposited from Nigeria. My question now is that is there a way I can go about it without losing money due to the exchange rate and conversions.I don’t have Naira I only have Cad
Secondly can I use an online service to notarize my affidavit here in canada, will IRCC accept?
Thanks guys
There is no way you will not lose money, the extent of loss will be determined by the method you use. If your sister has a dorm account and you do a wire transfer to her, the loss will be less than if you use exchanges like LemFi or CADREMIT. While an affidavit might be considered the most important part is showing documentation on how you earned the money and your income sufficient enough to sponsor a student.
amnotapervert: You lost me at ‘passion’ 😂 IRCC does not give two Fs about passion. What they care about is whether you can show measurable progress in your life and clearly justify why you want to study that program.
They want to see that the program is related to your previous degree or your current work experience, and that it will realistically advance your future career.
Don’t forget...you are a Nigerian applying with a Nigerian passport, and study permit approval rates for Nigerian applicants remain low.
I have shared the numbers multiple times...
A South Korean citizen can apply based on passion. Even a Chinese student can.
Nigerians, Indians, etc.....cannot apply for a program simply because of passion
Not sure I will like to derail this thread on this but I can tell you it has worked perfectly.
This is not always the case, people have different reasons they want to study a program. You just need to prove why. It may be related to work experience or passion. The SOP is all that matters.
I received an offer of admission for a post graduate study starting in September 2026. I was requested to pay a deposit within 10 days and my funds will only be available in about two Months. How do I navigate this issue? Can I email the school or what could be done in this regard. Pls note I wasn't expecting a decision from the School so quick.
Zeewirld: Please i need some help here.About a decade ago,I opened accounts with Cashcraft and Summit finance investment companies. Now,I learnt both broking firms are closed. Please how can i access my shareholding with them ,and is it possible to move it seamlessly to other stock-broking firms?
The only country in Africa that had some under the apartied regime... but were destroyed a few years before Mandela's ANC party government was handed power.
Also Ukraine inherited a significant portion of the old Soviet nukes. But handed them over to Russia and signed the nuclear non proliferation treaty.
Planning to land Ontario next month as a PR, I've gone through this thread trying to get tips for easier settlement but its all so overwhelming, different people saying different things on same topic, I don't know if its just me. Can someone who has landed already give us kind of like a checklist of what to do immediately you land, maybe like a step by step guide or something.
Like once you land, get your SIN number, what to do if you do not yet have a permanent address, what to look out for when house hunting, opening a bank account, preferred bank and best type of account etc.. any other stuff we need to do. (I know its subjective, but it can give us a generic overview)
Yes I read page 1, but that was since 2019 or so, im sure there maybe better/more efficient ways to do stuff. It's just so overwhelming. Can someone help me with a recent checklist all in one place or maybe I can pm you and you can guide me. Thr information is just scattered. I know we learn as we stay longer, but good information can avoid delays for newbies.
BTW, haven't seen a recent landing gist for a while now.
Looking at all those information can be quite overwhelming. You really can plan your arrival before coming but it is down to the Benjamins. Most importantly is the city of choice, why are you going there?
I used https://www.adrois.com/ to get a house before moving with my family, they made the process easy though they charge a one time service fee, it was worth it. If you secure an apartment, you can use that address for your PR Card.
You can get your SIN at the airport after collecting your luggage at the airport. There are other Service Canada offices around each city if you are too tired to wait. There are phone service providers at the airport towards your exit, I use Fido’s cheapest plan.
Do start your job and alternative job hunt before you arrive, that is where your survival funds as required by IRCC will be needed. There is every likelihood you will be needing more than that but do keep an open mind about the jobs.
Focus on getting your driver’s license, it’s more important than being in a relationship.
Teeore: Hello everyone, I have a question regarding student visa and passport expiration
I'm applying for a Canada student visa to resume Sept 2026. Program is for 2 years, to graduate Aug 2028. But my Passport expires Sept 2027. Can I go ahead to submit my application with current passport or I need to apply for a new passport first? I still have a year validity after resumption
Yes you can but you will need to renew your passport while in Canada
amnotapervert: Let nobody lie to you. You will get admission because schools want international student fees, but the visa will be very difficult.
You have a PhD and you want to do a PGD, not even a master’s degree.
Look at it this way: IRCC will have one main question.....why would someone with a PhD want to do a PGD?
That usually signals that the person does not genuinely intend to study. The school becomes just a pathway to enter Canada with her kids.
So, to answer your question: yes, relocation with your kids is possible only if (which is unlikely) you are going for a master’s degree.
Relocating with three kids as a student is very difficult.
Daycare costs are high, you are limited to 24 hours of work per week, unemployment is rising, and PR pathways are unstable. Be very sure before making any move.
As for budget: because you are coming with your kids, your proof of funds should cover living expenses plus full school fees.
That is $42,543 (living expenses.) plus your school fees (which average international student fee masters program is about $35,000 for the full program 2 years) total $77,543 CAD
Note: Some people will tell you or suggest that you only need to show one year of tuition. But if you are coming to Canada with three kids, it is much better to show proof of funds for the full school fees.
Showing full tuition gives your application a much stronger case than showing just one year.
However, the $42,543 is non-negotiable and must be shown regardless.
With a PGD she might still get a visa if she argues her case properly but then there is no room for family even if she has the money. Best option is to go for a program of choice, leave the children behind if possible, go to a province with ease of PNP which she can easily get with her PhD, then come back to take the kids.
