Queen Latifah has become the latest hip-hop artist to urge her peers to tone down their language, insisting black rappers should show off their vocabulary instead of rhyming expletives.

The rapper-turned-actress has called for hip-hop to start policing itself - to make sure the stereotype of uneducated, thuggish stars disappears.

She says: "We should start encouraging people to clean certain songs up because it's just not necessary.

"When you get used to hearing the clean version of a song in the clubs or on the radio all the time and then you hear the explicit version, it's shocking and it's not very creative.

"If you could clean up this record and make it sound this good, why did you ever need to make it like that in the first place? Sometimes cursing is an excuse not to use more vocabulary."

CAIRO (AFP) - Egypt on Thursday finally banned all female circumcision, the widely-practised removal of the clitoris which just days ago cost the life of a 12-year-old girl.

Officially the practice, which affects both Muslim and Christian women in Egypt and goes back to the time of the pharoahs, was banned in 1997 but doctors were allowed to operate "in exceptional cases".

On Thursday, Health Minister Hatem al-Gabali decided to ban every doctor and member of the medical profession, in public or private establishments, from carrying out a clitoridectomy, a ministry press official told AFP.

Any circumcision "will be viewed as a violation of the law and all contraventions will be punished," said the official, adding that it was a "permanent ban".

A survey in 2000 said the practice was carried out on 97 percent of the country's women.

In the latest fatality, 12-year-old Bedur Ahmed Shaker was taken by her mother to a private clinic in Minya, a town on the Nile south of Cairo, for the operation. She died before she could be transferred to hospital.

Her mother accused the woman doctor of negligence, charging that her daughter's death was linked to the anaesthetic and not the removal of the clitoris, for which she had paid 50 pounds (nearly nine dollars). Police have arrested both women.

Warren Buffett lunch sells for record $650,100

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A bidder agreed to pay $650,100 to have lunch with billionaire Warren Buffett, surpassing last year's record for the annual charity auction.

Mohnish Pabrai, an Irvine, California-based investor who models his investment style on Buffett's, won the right to dine with the 76-year-old chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. The five-day online auction concluded on Friday night on eBay Inc.'s Web site.

It was Pabrai's fifth year of bidding but the first time he won. The top bid surged nearly $250,000 in the final hour.

RomanceRe: Love Victim? by proverbial: 10:03am On Jun 30, 2007
Thats the point, some misplace "love", and make it to be what its not
some exploit love at the other person's expense.  That other person in turns becomes a victim.
When you've been in the real love, i mean love love  . .mutual love, unselfish love and patient love and enduring love and understanding love and trusting love
grin grin love is so multifaceted I see.  In this case you need not worry much(if at all) about being 'used and abused'
The problem today is that everything that waves by is termed love . . if its "a victim of love" in the sense of being very much in love with someone who is in love with you, there's absolutelty nothing wrong with it
you can't be a victim of love in that sense because you're being showered with so much 'love' and the person is not trying to extort you. I don't consider 'spoiling your lover' as nigrification. Other than that, it's more of a sacrifice for love than victimization - since you've got nothing to lose wink.
The subject in the other situation is being traumatized because he/she's genuinely in love and the partner is toying with that love.

by the way, I understand the context of your response I just wanted to explore what I talked about.

Among the findings:

Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.

Among the largest costs are Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches ($1.9 billion); the federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion).

With nearly two-thirds of illegal aliens lacking a high school degree, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments, not their legal status or heavy use of most social services.

On average, the costs that illegal households impose on federal coffers are less than half that of other households, but their tax payments are only one-fourth that of other households.

Many of the costs associated with illegals are due to their American-born children, who are awarded U.S. citizenship at birth. Thus, greater efforts at barring illegals from federal programs will not reduce costs because their citizen children can continue to access them.

If illegal aliens were given amnesty and began to pay taxes and use services like households headed by legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual net fiscal deficit would increase from $2,700 per household to nearly $7,700, for a total net cost of $29 billion.

Costs increase dramatically because unskilled immigrants with legal status -- what most illegal aliens would become -- can access government programs, but still tend to make very modest tax payments.

Although legalization would increase average tax payments by 77 percent, average costs would rise by 118 percent.

The fact that legal immigrants with few years of schooling are a large fiscal drain does not mean that legal immigrants overall are a net drain -- many legal immigrants are highly skilled.

The vast majority of illegals hold jobs. Thus the fiscal deficit they create for the federal government is not the result of an unwillingness to work.
http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalexec.html
The results of this study are consistent with a 1997 study by the National Research Council, which also found that immigrants' education level is a key determinant of their fiscal impact.

Now with regards to the welfare scenario, c'mon you and I know who really benefit from that.  And you know it's not the illegal aliens.
Use of means-tested programs(aka welfare, healthcare benefits) by illegal immigrants from Mexico points to a fundamental problem that would almost certainly exist with any guestworker program. Even if guestworkers are made technically ineligible for means-tested programs, it seems almost certain that they would make use of them anyway by receiving benefits on behalf of their native-born children. After all, the findings in Figure 16 indicate that despite an outright ban on their use, illegals from Mexico actually use such programs at higher rates than natives in many cases. Any guestworker program would bring in large numbers of immigrants from Mexico with very low skill levels and resulting low incomes. Their low incomes coupled with their children’s eligibility would mean very significant costs to taxpayers even if the guestworkers themselves are successfully barred from using such programs.

I am not refuting your statement. I am simply saying that since it would be impossible to deport those already here, why not capitalise on whatever skills they came with and benefit from that in the long run??
but he's saying that those who got here legally can also contribute/provide these skills.
I doubt it's impossible to deport those already here, if i'm not misled it's happened before.
PoliticsRe: Major Defeat For G.w. Bush by proverbial(op): 12:34am On Jun 30, 2007
Before I attempt to provide an answer. Are you refering to illegal aliens as thieves?  If so, this is preposterous since we all know that many of these people are harmless and only came here to make an honest living.

Again Proverbial, I say yes to legalising aliens who have something to offer.  For those who would add further burden to be economy( like many of its lazy unproductive nationals) then I have a problem.

PS> Great scenario, however, I have seen them as hard working working people and not menaces to society,
Oh please, thieves, that's even sugar coating it.  A criminal is a criminal is a criminal, it's not preposterous.  Do your realize these people are undocumented and can get away with criminal acts when they commit them, especially since they're not entered into the database.  Matter of fact that's what you're telling them to do right now, is to get away with criminality, now that's something I consider preposterous.

abi o David, that's what I said.

Islander check this out by the way:

"When your home is repeatedly being broken into by thieves and worse, you get them OUT of your house by arresting them and removing them from your premises. You then install a very good alarm and security system so that they cannot enter again without being immediately identified, arrested, and removed before they do any harm at all. You DO NOT allow them to remain in your home, call them family, and THEN install the alarm system, after giving the thieves your passcode to deactivate it "temporarily"."
PoliticsRe: Major Defeat For G.w. Bush by proverbial(op): 11:57pm On Jun 29, 2007
if this is truly the case, I guess everybody that is dissatisfied with their country's present economy should be able to leave the country whenever and enter America illegaly and expect to be granted legal/permanent residence.

those are excuses, they still do not qualify or rebute the fact that illegal immigration is simply "illegal". These are criminals however you look at it; it would be unfair to pardon some criminals and let others walk aroun freely.

They did say there's no justice anyway so I guess we can pretend that these people are regular Americans.

Yes to legalising illegal aliens who are qualified and can be of service to the host country
if you don't mind explaining to me what these "qualifications" are. What exactly makes them qualified? vandalizing the country?

I guess there's this premise that the illegal immigrants are doing the jobs that Americans don't want. lol.

@ayefele to answer your question, of course not, why would I do that.
Christianity EtcRe: Can You Attend A Church Led By A Woman? by proverbial: 11:27pm On Jun 29, 2007
I do not think women should be asked to shut up/keep quiet about church matters & incidents, but I also don't think they're granted the choice of "THE" leadership role in the church. This doesn't mean they're excluded from partaking in leadership roles in the church.

Although I'm willing to think otherwise if further scriptures that address this matter is provided to revert my thoughts.

We're addressing illegal immigration here, not immigration in general.  Nobody's saying "say no to immigration" (though I've heard protests from white Americans who feel that way), but illegal immigration is against the law and I do not support it, period.

I even heard the mexican government is passing out Mexican/American Ids that these people use here in the states.  The card is greenish in color.

Legalizing the illegal immigrants wouldn't stop the curse. Next thing you know, you have even more illegal immigrants entering the nation and wanting to be legalized.

State's "cheap labor" costs average household $1,183 a year
Dateline: December, 2004
In hosting America's largest population of illegal immigrants, California bears a huge cost to provide basic human services for this fast growing, low-income segment of its population. A new study from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) examines the costs of education, health care and incarceration of illegal aliens, and concludes that the costs to Californians is $10.5 billion per year.

Among the key finding of the report are that the state's already struggling K-12 education system spends approximately $7.7 billion a year to school the children of illegal aliens who now constitute 15 percent of the student body. Another $1.4 billion of the taxpayers' money goes toward providing health care to illegal aliens and their families, the same amount that is spent incarcerating illegal aliens criminals.

"California's addiction to 'cheap' illegal alien labor is bankrupting the state and posing enormous burdens on the state's shrinking middle class tax base," stated Dan Stein, President of FAIR.
