30 year-old Laura Yoho and her husband Nate Yoho really wanted to have a family together, despite the devastating news they received about Laura's brain tumor. Laura was diagnosed with brain cancer after she passed out at the gym and the symptoms persisted. Laura, who was also a gym instructor kept her active life and never felt sorry for herself regardless of her sickness, family members noted. When the couple decided to bring a baby into the world, her best friend, Kara Stetson gladly offered to carry the (surrogate) baby for them. Tragically but peacefully, Laura died shortly after having her baby shower. She lost the battle to cancer; however, she left a piece of herself in this world. Caralyn, her beautiful baby girl was born four months after Laura's passing. "It's such an amazing gift. There are no words that could possibly recreate what she's done for myself and my family,' Nate said. Kara said: "I just felt so happy that there was something I could do for her family and his family, and selfishly for me, to keep a part of Laura alive on this Earth. Laura and I are very close so I think it came easy to both of us, the idea," she added. After Caralyn was born, Des Moines Register reporter Daniel Finney wrote an open letter to the baby telling this same story. It began: "You’re barely a month old now, too young to read this letter. But one day soon, someone will show you this, and maybe it will help you understand the wonderful confluence of love and hope that brought you into this world." Also in the open letter, the surrogate said, "'It’s hard to explain what having a best friend like Laura for 24 years meant to me. We were different enough and alike enough to get along perfectly. We never argued. We never got sick of one another. We were like sisters, soul mates and a best friend all rolled into one." Although the little girl will never meet her mom, the decision of her mom's best friend is a proof of how much she is genuinely loved and wanted. Perhaps you should review your friend lists. How many selfless and REAL friends do you have? Food for thought. Happy weekend! http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/daughter-born-by-surrogate-her-moms.html |

As 2013 winds down, I thought about the most memorable events that went viral among Nigerians, both at home and abroad. Here's my list, beginning with the most memorable: 1. My Oga At The Top This has got to be the #1 on every Nigerian's list. The then Lagos State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) Mr Obafaiye Shem appeared on Channels TV show to discuss issues relating to his organization (watch the video here). Mr Obafaiye couldn't tell his NSCDC's web address. His final response to the question "What is the website of NSCDC?" trigger a national comedy sensation. DJ Ziggy made a remix and uploaded it on YouTube while other saw a business opportunity to make shirts with the "My oga at the top" inscription. 2. River State House of Assembly 'Knack You Akpako' Saga The political mayhem in Rivers State House of Assembly on July 8th is #2 on my list. It's was tagged "knack you akpako" after a video of Honorable Chidi Lloyd hitting another honorable with the mace surfaced online. Watch a short clip of the akpako below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zM9P9nxNMA8 3. Honorable Patrick "Higi haga" Obahiagbon's interview on the River State crisis Honorable Obahiagbon is no stranger to anyone who's familiar with the Nigerian political terrain. This man is known for his command of English vocabularies. Unfortunately, while he makes very cogent points, he message is usually lost in translation. This exactly what happened when he was invited by Channels Television to discuss the political situation in Rivers State. Watch the video here. 4. Go and Die This insensitive comment made by Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo State is fairly recent. You can read the details and watch the video here. The governor has since apologized and compensated the widow, Mrs. Joy Oviengbede Ifije, with 2 Million Naira and an employment offer. I tagged this 'Go and Die' becomes 'Come and Dine.' Just like 'Oga at the top', Some Nigerians saw a business opportunity and they made "Go and Die" shirts. 5. Open Letter Season This is the latest and hottest topic as 2013 comes to an end. It started with former president Olusegun Obasanjo's open letter to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Shortly after, an open letter to Obasanjo surfaced. This one was written by Senator Iyabo Obasanjo. I tagged that series "Oh Father, Oh Daughter." What are your most memorable highlights? I'm sure there are lots more memorable events - like the COZA scandal (we are still awaiting a robust response), the Aviation minister bullet proof car saga, and some others. Share your most memorable highlights in 2013 in the comment section. Looking forward to reading them. Source - http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/top-5-most-memorable-highlights-of-2013.html |

A mass wedding was conducted on Thursday December 19th, 2013 for 1,100 widows and divorcees in Nigeria’s Kano state as part of a general drive to discourage promiscuity in the mainly Muslim state. It will be the fourth such set of mass marriage in Kano in recent years. PM News report that the exercise was the fourth in the series of mass weddings conducted by the state government since 2011. A total of 100 couples wedded in the first batch, while 250 couples wedded in the second batch and 1,000 wedded in the third batch. The elaborate event at the city’s central mosque included 1,111 previously divorced women and an equal number of men, many of whom had also been married before. The mass wedding program was launched two years ago by the state government and sharia police, or Hisbah, who enforce Islamic law, to counter what officials have described as a divorce epidemic. According to Hisbah chief, Aminu Daurawa, the program has arranged 4,461 marriages over the last 18 months. Under the match-making program, the state government pays the traditional bride price, provides brides with furniture and seed money to start a small business. I tell you, interesting things happen in Kano. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/mass-wedding-conducted-for-1100-widows.html |

How do you caption this picture of Stan Dara and Ike Anuka, two dishonorables in Imo State, going on their knees while having some king of conversation with their governor, Rochas Okorocha. Seated next to the governor is Imo State House of Aseembly Speaker Ben Uwajumogu? I could imagine the conversation go like this: Okorocha: You two are planning to be rebellious huh? Didn't I tell you not to say anything during the congressional meeting? I will cut your allowance and put you in time out! Honorables: (hurriedly fell on their knees) Ah Oga Rochas, no be so! We swear to you, we dey loyal. Na that yeye PDP man go force words for our mouths. Oga you know say na you be our "Jesus Christ." Uwajumogu: See them....hungry boys. Next time, listen to your governor. It's pitiful knowing that we call these people our leaders. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/photo-of-day-when-politicians-turn-oga.html |

Culled from Sahara Reporters A crucial meeting between key government offices concerning the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) declaration that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has failed to remit to the Federation Account the sum of $49.8 billion between 2012 and 2013 has concluded that only about $10.8 billion appears to be unaccounted for. That figure was referred to only as a “shortfall” in domestic crude oil receipts. The NNPC, meanwhile, admitted at the meeting that Nigeria’s earnings from crude oil exports over the period in question were $67.12 billion: $1.79 billion higher than the revenues reported by the CBN. In attendance at the meeting which was billed as a “reconciliation meeting” were the CBN, the NNPC, the Department of Petroleum Resources, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the Budget Office of the Federation, the Federal Ministries of Finance, and the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources. In a “summary of findings” issued after the meeting, which lasted until 2 am,” the group said the $10.8 billion “shortfall” was acknowledged by NNPC but that the corporation at the same time disputed its magnitude. “This shortfall has been acknowledged by NNPC, but the magnitude of the shortfall is still disputed by NNPC. The shortfall is explained to be the result of subsidy claims, unrecovered crude/product losses, and cost of strategic petroleum storage (which is currently not captured in the PPPRA template for refunds). This figure is also well-known to all stakeholders at the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), and is reported and updated on a monthly basis. However, all parties concerned are working assiduously through the ongoing reconciliation efforts to resolve this.” A source at the meeting told Sahara Reporters that the overriding reason the institutions resolved that not to drag the issue further is because the NNPC and the Minister of Petroleum Resources managed to“convince” those at the meeting that the monies had somehow been remitted. The discrepancies first leaked through a letter written to President Goodluck Jonathan by CBN Governor Lamido Sanusi Lamido, which was first published by Sahara Reporters. Since the letter leaked to the media,Mr. Sanusi has been put under immense pressure by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke. Our source said that despite the bogus accounting undertaken by the NNPC, the agency could still not account for as much as $12 billion from proceeds of crude oil lifted and sold on behalf of Nigeria. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/nnpc-still-unable-to-account-for-12.html |
Mynd_44: Lynching is a crime whether gay or robbers. This law does not ban being gay, the law is followed to the letter and I am referring to if a person can be charged it being gay which is not possible under this law. A policeman cannot arrest a gay person and anyone having gay sex wont be jailed because the law states marriage.I didn't think about it in that sense. Good point! |
I just ran out of popcorn...This is shaping out to be another Indian movie. |

The United States is set to evacuate non-essential embassy staff and citizens from South Sudan's Juba airport today after the army factions clashed. Currently, diplomats have reported over 500 people killed and 800 people wounded, raising fears of greater issues. "Most people are scared they might be confronted with a mob or see dead bodies," said one aid worker in Juba, adding that the city was calmer on Wednesday morning, after residents awoke to heavy gunfire and artillery blasts on Monday and Tuesday. "Planes due to take off for Juba are empty as people don't want to go there. Even the Sudanese don't want to go home," said the Fly540 official, who asked not to be identified. Ethiopia has brought home approximately 140,000 citizens from Saudi Arabia, the International Organization for Migration said today, a month after the oil-rich kingdom initiated the deportation of all the undocumented migrants. Ethiopia initially expected around 30,000 citizens to return home, but now expects 150,000 will fly back in what has become the largest human airlift in recent history. Unfortunately, this puts Ethiopia, one of the fastest growing economies in Africa in a dangerous position: the reintegration of thousands of people who lack savings and belongings. Many migrants: Indians, Asians, and other Africans who reside in Saudi Arabia face mental and physical abuses, violence, and discrimination as South Sudan violence spreads. It'll spread? yes, according to United Nations' Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. He reported today that South Sudan's violence could spread to other parts of Africa's youngest country. "This is a political crisis and urgently needs to be dealt with through political dialogue," he told reporters. "There is a risk of this violence spreading to other states (in South Sudan) as we have already seen some signs of this." Let's keep the people who are entangled in this issue in our prayer. http://www.infonubia.com/2013/12/what-is-going-on-in-south.html |
