I hope we all know that Chioma might read all this craziness going on here talking about scamming this and scamming that and fall into a deeper depression? To the person who asked how it's possible for someone to be 8 month pregnant and nobody knows, it is very possible and happens every single day. There are medical shows and documentries supporting this. Bottomline is that she still has a new born baby girl whom she's not ready to present to her parents and also can't take back to school with her! We don't want to freak her out into thinking we are giving up on her or don't care anymore. Please for the sake of the baby lets put our differences aside and still rub minds to come up with a lasting solution. She's fretting about going back to school and her exams. I'm just afraid that she will make a wrong decision based on all that has gone down on this forum today and hand that baby over to just anyone. Chioma needs a good talking to and I am of the opinion that her mother at least should be informed or even an aunt. Surely she must have one sympathetic member in her family? Kudos to all who have either contacted, seen, supported (financially or emotionally) Chioma and the baby! |
@ Perx. I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. Don't ever give up hope! I would like to suggest that you try to contact Dr. Stephen Deshi, an Orthopedic Surgeon at Zankli Medical Center in Abuja. When I was in Nigeria and working for the Swizz Embassy, he was (I think he still is) the preferred orthopedic surgeon for the diplomatic community in Abuja. My boss then suffered a really bad fracture after he fell down the stairs, Dr. Deshi did a fantastic job fixing that fracture. The name of the owner and Medical Director of Zankli is Dr. Lovette Lawson and here is their website: http://www.zankli.com/index.php I know you stand a better chance having this health problem treated properly abroad but time is of the essence and it hurts knowing that you are in so much pain. It is going to take a while to gather all the money needed to send you abroad for treatment and time is of the essence! I don't know about the UK, but here in the US they will expect you to put down almost 90% of the estimated cost of your treatment. That's what happened when i tried to bring my dad here for treatment. |

what is the website for NL Charity? |
moremi2008:see why i said u need to learn etiquette when talking. You can argue your point respectfully without resulting to name calling. What makes you think we are hormonal because we don't agree with your assessment of this issue? @OP, you really don't know the worth of a squeaky clean SS# do you. If you think the IRS will not eventually find out then you are in lala land! It doesn't take rocket science to figure out that the child whose SS# is being used is not even resident in the States. How long after the birth did you return to Nigeria? |
moremi2008:**yawn** ok. wateva! See me drinking choloroquine for someone else's malaria!! @ poster, she's your sis and that's your kid. Do what your heart says you should! @ moremi2008, u should learn a little bit of etiquette when it comes to addressing strangers in cyberspace or in person. Nuff said! goodnight! |
moremi2008:spreading lies to make my point? wow! another "ugly" hearted person on NL! oya show me where i said a minor has credit score? aproko!! What I said is: pslm23:Are there not hundreds of cases in this country where a child grows up and finds out that he can't even get approved for a simple transaction because his info was used and defaulted upon? Abeg make i hear word jare! My own SIL did it to her own daughter and ended up being sued by her child so don't sit telling me that i am telling lies to make myself feel good, for who? you? http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2011-05-29/business/bs-bz-ambrose-child-identity-theft-20110529_1_identity-theft-resource-center-social-security-number-privacy-and-identity-protection Here's an article from the Baltimore Sun from last year and that's all i will say on this issue. Kids with mortgages, credit card bills and auto loans What happens when identity thieves target children May 29, 2011|By Eileen Ambrose, The Baltimore Sun When an adult's identity is stolen, he or she often discovers the theft in a month or so, when the next financial statement comes in. But when it's a child who is being ripped off, it can be many years before the fraud is discovered. "Parents have no idea that their children's identities have been stolen until they have become adults and find that their credit report says they are in debt," said Steven Toporoff, an attorney with the Federal Trade Commission's division of privacy and identity protection. |
If the baby is with you in Nigeria then there really isn't any reason why she should be asking for the SS#. Like someone earlier said, this is tax season and she could get a sizable amount of $ if she files as head of household and claims him as a dependent. It is fraud and she could be arrested and it will be hard to convince the authorities that you were not a party to this obvious attempt to scam the IRS. The other scenario is to apply for a credit card and it's sad to note that most credit card companies here do not even check to match SS# with DOB before issuing a credit line worth thousands of $$. God forbid the card is defaulted on or goes into collection for lack of fee payment, then your child's credit score will be ruined for life. My advice, don't give her that # unless you want to gamble with your son's future. |

My first reaction at reading Chioma's story was shock, then worry for her and then fear for the baby. After CC and Ify intervened, I was relieved and shed a few tears because that baby now had a chance at having life and growing up. You women are heaven sent! God bless and bless you 2! @Chioma, "ebezila akwa, obi sie gi ike" You are a brave, strong woman, yes you made a mistake in getting pregnant but your actions after the birth of this child has redeemed you. I could give you a big hug right about now! |
Do Ob/Gyn clinics in Nigeria encourage their female patients ages 25 and above to have pap tests or mammograms?I would like to encourage my fellow ladies to ask your doctor about this and start imbibing a yearly habit of having them done. I was just informed that my 28 year old cousin has been diagnosed with cancer of the cervix. She's been here visiting me since the end of November. 3 weeks ago she started having uncontrollable bleeding and serious pelvic pain. At first we thought it was just bad cramps from her period but as the days went by and the bleeding refused to stop we went to the ER. Long story short, after lots of tests and biopsies, it turns out she has cervical cancer. I would like to believe that if her ob/gyn had performed a pap test on her, the abnormal cells would have been detected. Age is not a factor here, if you are having se.xual relations and have had multiple partners in your life, you need to be having a pap test done every year to check if you have the HPV virus that causes cancer. In the US, teenage girls who are se.xually active are being encouraged to get the HPV injection since they are too young to have the pap test but at age 21, all ladies are encouraged to start getting it done. |
uzokan:Thank you uzokan. Your story is really encouraging. I'm not giving up on this journey as I know this year will be my year of laughter but first i have to make sure all my "t's" are crossed and "i's" dotted. I have my tubal surgery scheduled for the first week of Feb. After that i have to wait for 3 months to make sure it was successful and then i can resume with my 2nd IVF cycle! in the meantime, i'm keeping healthy, thinking positive and living a healthy lifestyle. Many thanks to everybody that have sent me messages asking after my health. |
@ Moderator, please move this to the Family Section or front page. This is an interesting topic that is affecting many women today. |
I beg to disagree. My husband is part Spanish and Black (from PA). That man can hiss and even add "up and down" eyeing on top of it! ![]() Not long after we got married, we were arguing and the next thing i heard was this elongated hiss, in short i was so shocked that i stopped arguing and started laughing. I asked him where he learnt that from and he doesn't even know. He said he just started doing it one day many years ago when he was disagreeable with something his parents were saying to him. The day he eyed me up and down for the first time, i almost fainted! My mom always used to tell him that he shld check his black heritage because his black ancestors might actually come from Nigeria. ![]() |

ThiefOfHearts:Nope! Not refering to Omega3. i was talking about diets like the lemonade diet, hot pepper diet, laxative diet, fasting for 2 weeks or 40 days etc. those are fad diets because they don't work! |

Quinoa Chili 1 cup quinoa 3.5 cups water 1 large onion (chopped) I medium sweet red pepper (chopped) 4 garlic cloves (minced) ½ lb of minced turkey or beef (optional) 1tbs chili powder 1/2 tsp. cinnamon powder 1 tbs curry powder 2 cans black beans (rinsed and drained) 1/28oz can of crushed tomatoes 1 tsp. oregano Chopped Vegetables of your choice Salt to taste Pepper to taste 1 cup of sweet corn (frozen or canned) ** You can also use any other spices you like including bay leaf, curry leaf etc.** 1. In large saucepan, bring quinoa and 2 cups of water to a boil. (Soak quinoa for 5-10 mins to remove bitterness before cooking) reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15mins or until water is absorbed. Remove from heat and set aside 2. In another large saucepan, put a little olive oil or pure peanut oil (enough to coat the bottom of the pan) sauté your meat (optional), onion, red pepper and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink or until the vegetables are tender. Stir in chili powder, cinnamon and curry powder and stir; cook for 2 more minutes. 3. Add the black beans, tomatoes, vegetables, organo, salt, pepper and other spices and remaining 1.5 cups of water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30 mins. Stir in corn and quinoa. Let the heat go through everything, You’re done! Bon appétit! Note: If you don’t have canned beans where you are, cooked beans will work. If you don’t have black beans, red kidney beans is fine too. |
naijababe:I fully plan on keeping this up. One good thing about me is my sense of determination. Once I make up my mind to do something, that's it. Of course excersise plays a huge role in a sustainable weight loss program. I don't do threadmills or anything that strenous, just brisk walking in the am. before work and pm. before bedtime. naijababe:Sausage is made from meat so i don't eat it but I eat the soy sausage made entirely from soy.! You'll be shocked to see what they have in the market for meat substitue, and they are yummy too. |
jovi:Tip # 1 is to make sure you soak the quinoa for at least 5-10 mins. That helps get rid of the bitterness. The quinoa that i buy from my whole food store has already been steamed and properly cleaned before packaging and so does not have the bitter taste. I cook mine like i would cook rice. After 12-15 mins of cooking and after the water is absorbed, i use a fork to fluff it and that's it. In another pot i now start preparing the vegetable sauce i want to eat it with. if you want I can give you a real simple quinoa recipe that is easy to make and that you would love. it's a vegan recipe but if you want, you can use meat. |
jovi:Jovi, i don't think quinoa can be found in Nigeria unless you look for it in any store that exclusively sells oyibo food for the expatriates. To me it looks like couscous after it has been cooked. Here is a link that will give you a better description of quinoa. http://www.americandiabetes.com/living-diabetes/diabetes-food-articles/quinoa-another-great-weight-loss-food . It is absolutely delicious if properly cooked, easy to cook and contains more protein than soy. As for fruits, i eat a whole grapefruit every morning with my breakfast, an orange and tangerine with my lunch. Portion control is also very essential in loosing weight and keeping it off. Our eyes are always bigger than our stomach and that's where our main wahala comes from when it comes to food. eat small portions and drink plenty of water. If i feel peckish in the middle of the day, i munch on raw almond nuts mixed with cranberry seeds or raisins. cut out all kinds of soda and make water your best friend. i see some people suggesting fasting for whatever period of time, that is a wrong and dangerous move to make in the name of dieting. If you starve your body of food you will only end up loosing weight temporarily but that weight will come back in triple doses with every little thing you put in your mouth unless you decide to starve yourself or fast for the rest of your life. |
Around the Christmas holidays, I decided to go 100% vegan. I eliminated all animal products and any food with preservatives from my diet. For protein I rely on soy and quinoa. I eat lots and lots of vegetables and fruits and i'm proud to say that in a little less than 4 weeks, I've lost 19 pounds and counting. My health is improving daily and I find myself not relying on my daily pain medications.lifestyle changes has a lot to do with loosing weight and keeping it off. |
