Yesterday my husband sat on our bed with his feet on my pillow and started clipping his nasty nails! His toe nails (especially the big toe nail) are so hard and can impale human flesh. Haba! why couldn't he put his feet on the floor for crying out loud and why didn't he put his feet on his own pillow? why mine?

Beware of Skin Lotions Tainted With Mercury
Some skin lotions and antiseptic soaps claim to clean and lighten skin while removing freckles and wrinkles. Instead, these illegally imported cosmetic products make consumers ill from exposure to high levels of mercury.

The U.S. Government is warning consumers about these products after dozens of people in at least seven states were diagnosed with mercury poisoning. Victims include a woman in California who was hospitalized after using an unlabeled skin lotion for three years. Several members of her family also had high levels of mercury in their bodies, even though they didn’t use the lotion.

“Exposure to mercury can damage your kidneys and nervous system. It also interferes with brain development in unborn babies and very young children,” said Gloria Sánchez-Contreras, a spokesperson for the Food and Drug Administration.

Immigrants Are at High Risk
The FDA has identified dozens of products that contain high levels of mercury, and has taken steps to deny shipments of these products into the United States. However, many of these lotions and soaps are brought into the country by mail or by international travelers. Once here, they often end up on store shelves that cater to immigrants, including Hispanics, Asians, Africans and people from the Middle East.

People who buy these products are not putting only their own health at risk, small children can also be exposed to mercury by breathing in the vapors of a skin lotion or by touching someone who has used the cream and then putting their fingers in their mouth. “That’s why it’s so important for consumers and sellers to know about the dangers of possible mercury poisoning associated with the use of or exposure to these skin products,” said Sánchez-Contreras.

How to Avoid These Products
The FDA prohibits the use of mercury in skin lotions and cosmetic soaps manufactured abroad. To avoid skin lightening and anti-aging products tainted with mercury, stay away from products that:

•Do not clearly list ingredients on the label.
•Include the words “mercurous chloride,” “calomel,” “mercuric,” “mercurio,” or “mercury” in their labels.
•Have labels written in other languages unless they also include a clear description in English.
What to Do If Exposed to Mercury
Be alert for signs of mercury poisoning, which include irritability, changes in vision and hearing, memory loss, depression and numbness in the hands, feet or mouth. If you suspect you have been using products tainted with mercury, stop using them immediately and do the following:

•Wash your hands thoroughly as well as any other part of the body that might have come into contact with the product.
•Contact your doctor or health clinic.
•If you have questions call the National Capital Poison Center at 1 (800) 222-1222.
You can also report the adverse effects of any drug or product on the FDA.gov website or by calling (800) 332-1088.

In the US, if a male or female ob/gyn doctor is going to perform any kind of examination "down below" there has to be a female nurse in the room! Even for ultrasounds where they insert the "wand".

It didn't use to be like this until a high incidence of female patients reporting that they had been molested by their male ob/gyn's or family doctors. In this country, they sue for everything so to prevent hefty lawsuits, there has to be a nurse in the room for every examination.

As for me, i don't feel comfortable when there is another person there other than my doctor watching. One time i glanced at the nurse standing the during the examination and the look on her face was annoying me. i've had both male and female ob/gyn's

my sentiments exactly,  not to mention infection! A doctor or nurse did not pay attention. There are signs and symptoms before someone falls into a coma post surgery! This makes me so angry at how our hospitals in Nigeria especially teaching hospitals, do not pay attention!

Hi everyone.
As a child, my granny and mom would use a beautiful smelling face powder on my face. The name started with "Midnight" I think, and it came in a tin powder can that was blue. Do you know if these are still being sold in Nigeria and how much they go for?

I am almost 40 and up till today, i can only use white powder on my face. Tried foundations, brown powders, u name it, different brands etc but my face breaks out in horrible rashes. White powder is the only thing i can use to control my oily face.

So, her "tattoo" could very well be something she didn't do to herself!

Dressing:  NEPA took light and being a big girl, she started sweating a lot and had to take off the jacket that comes with that dress.

US arraigns Nigerian nurse for handling patient

A former Wishard nursing assistant accused of handling a patient and videotaping it appeared in an Indianapolis court on Tuesday. The judge appointed a public defender and entered a “not guilty” plea on his behalf.

But police said the evidence against Folajuwani Ajayi pointed to guilt. His immigration status, though, could help him avoid jail term.

Ajayi is scheduled to face trial for one felony and two misdemeanor charges on April 2.

But court documents indicated while working at Wishard Memorial Hospital, the certified nursing assistant fondled an unconscious inmate being treated in the hospital’s detention area and videotaped it.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Ajayi’s cell phone video showed “a black male remove the clothing material around the female patient” and fondled her genital area.

Police said a fumbling Ajayi accidentally video-taped his Wishard-issued ID card that hung around his neck. The court document said the video showed Ajayi’s name and the title care tech.

“It’s always disturbing when someone in a position of trust violates that trust,” said Eric Schmadeke, Marion County deputy prosecutor.

Ajayi holds resident alien status. Police and prosecutors have alerted Immigration and Customs Enforcement leaders.

But Schmadeke said investigation was only beginning.

There were 40,000 pictures and 17 videos on Ajayi’s cell phone. Investigators are trying to identify the women in every image, find them and interview them. If and when they do, Ajayi could face many more charges.

when i was teenager i went without food for 5 days because me and my boyfriend were quarelling! 5 solid days on only water!  love will make one do the stupidest thing. While i was wasting away and dying of headaches, he was eating chicken and fried rice!    Never again! No man is worth me starving to death. Now i know why my mom called me "love anu-ohia"

Seriously people, all this talk about fasting for whatever number of days does NOT work! What happens after the fast has ended? How has the fast helped you change your eating habits or lifestyle? My co-woker started the Daniels Fast for 30 days as instructed by her church and she lost like 20lbs. The fast ended on the 31st of Jan and she resumed eating the way she used to and is now complaining that she in less that 3 days, she has gained 7 pounds!,  well, duhh!!!!  of course the weight will come back like crazy when she's not exercising and everything she did during the fast, she's stopped doing. for those interested in the what the Daniels Fast is all about, here is the link: http://danielfast./daniel-fast-food-list/

If you really want to loose weight, take stock of how much you eat, what you eat and how much exercise you do daily. Start by portion control, incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet, and start exercising. Walking is a good beginers exercise. If you can afford to get a pedometer, do so and hook it on your pants (trousers) and start walking. it will tell you how many steps you've done and there are some that will even calculate how much calories you've burned by how many steps you've taken.

Lifestyle change is the main key and motivation to successfully loosing weight and keeping it off

Like I said before, kudos to Ify, Cc, mutter and all the other women and men who went above and beyond and  truly tried to help Chioma and the baby. Your hearts are in the right place so please never change who you are based on some of the postings made here.
Chioma says the baby is fine and in a home now. Fine, lets wish them luck and stop all the bickering and move on with our lives

Maybe what Nigeria needs is a Safe Haven Law just like they do here in the US where a mother can take her new born baby or child up to 30 days old to any government run office and hand over with no questions asked, no parents involved and no hassles. Apparently this law was put in place because of what happened to baby Moses a few years back.
I think the welfare suggestion in Chioma's case would have worked if there hadn't been talk of involving her parents or any member of her family.
I sincerely hope that she will get to see her baby again in 6 months, May God protect that child

@ Chioma, have you given any more thought on what you want for Destiny? Have you been in contact again with the Rev? If the Welfare office is saying they need o contact at least one of your family members before they can place Destiny in foster care and you are saying you don't want the involvement of any family member in this issue, where does that leave Destiny? Whatever route you decide to take just make sure you leave enough paper trail and documentation behind you because you'll need it when it's time to claim back your daughter.

@ all,  in case Chioma decides to do a private (no State agency involved)  temp. placement for her daughter, what about getting a lawyer involved to draw up some kind of agreement between her and the foster parent(s)?
