Health / 71% Nigerians Have No Malaria Parasite Antigen, wasting Money On Drugs– New Study by PublicHealthNig: 4:17pm On Jul 04, 2019
Self medication with antimalarial drugs is one of the commonest forms of self medication in Nigeria. Malaria is a risk for 97% of Nigeria's population. The remaining 3% of the population live in the malaria free highlands. There are an estimated 100 million malaria cases with over 300,000 deaths per year in Nigeria. A major concern of the indiscriminate consumption of Malaria medications is counterfeiting. In 2011, 64% of antimalarial medicines circulating in Nigeria were reported to be substandard according a study published in the lancet.

A new study published in Texila American University International Journal of Public Health, revealed that a whopping 71.49% of participants purchasing antimalarial medicines in drug stores for self-medication had no Malaria parasite antigen in their blood stream. The study which was conducted in Nigeria was supervised by a team led by the Executive Director Public Health Nigeria, Oche Joseph Otorkpa a fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health UK.

The study recommended that policy makers in the public health sector take a second look at self-medication in malaria treatment with a view to providing frameworks, guidelines or laws to further stream line the practice and sales of malaria drugs for self- medication. They further recommended public sensitization on the financial loss, health hazards and clinical complications associated with self-medication practices as well as increased availability of rapid diagnostic test (RDT) kits, hinting on the possibility of self-testing with RDT as a pre requisite for purchase of antimalarial medications in the near future.
It could be recalled that on April 25, 2000 African heads of states met in Abuja, to express commitment to the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) initiative having recognized the public health and economic burden the disease has placed on the continent as well as the barrier it constitutes to development and poverty alleviation.

But in Northern Nigeria, substance abuse is growing and ravaging a vulnerable population.

Romance / See Africas Top 10 Transgenders by PublicHealthNig: 6:36pm On Apr 15, 2019
What is Transgender?

"Transgender" can be defined as the  umbrella term used to describes people whose gender identity or expression does not match the sex they were assigned at birth. For example, a transgender person may identify as a woman despite having been born with male Instruments. On the 18th of June 2018, the World Health Organization issued a new catalogue covering 55,000 diseases, injuries and causes of death, in which it discreetly re-categorised transgenderism. The new catalogue, which still needs to be approved by UN member countries, so-called “gender incongruence” is now listed under “conditions related to sexual health”, instead of “mental, behavioral  and neuro developmental disorders”.

However,  scientists and health institutions  in most countries still classify it as a mental illness a  reason an insurance company in Israel  refused to finance a mastectomy for a transgender man, insisting that being transgender is a mental illness.

Although experts estimate that about one percent of the world’s population are transgender they are almost invisible on the African continent  due to strong cultural values. The few which come out as transgender are often deserted by their friends and families forcing many with such thoughts  to hide their identity and live on the margins of their communities or risk being ostracized due to strong religious, cultural and moral values which are held in high esteem across the continent. South Africa, Angola and Botswana are the only African countries with laws explicitly allowing official documents to be changed to reflect a person’s desired identity, although medical evidence of transition is usually required. Her is Africa's top ten transgender celebrities:

Audrey Mbugua
# 1 Audrey Mbugua - is Kenya’s most famous transgender “woman”. Born a male in Kenya and given the name Andrew he said he felt trapped in the wrong body and started dressing in women’s clothes while at university, attracting ridicule and rejection. After Mbugua’s 2008 suicide attempt, doctors diagnosed him with gender identity disorder and arranged for surgery to change his sex but Kenya’s minister of medical services cancelled the operation at the last minute. Kenyan authorities say medical proof of transition – a sex change – is required to change the gender mark on Mbugua’s passport and identity card. But sex change surgery is virtually impossible to get in Kenya.

Sandile Ndelu
# 2 Sandile Ndelu- is a 22-year-old transgender woman and postgraduate law student at the University of Cape Town. he is originally from KwaZulu-Natal in a small town called Umkomaas. Ntobeka Mboya

#4 Ntobeka Mboya - describes”herself” as a bubbly troublemaker. According to him “If I don’t get a callback I just roll a joint and smoke,” he says with a laugh. Mboya says he has always known that he is transgender. “I hate having a penis but I love having one inside me. It’s like a piece of meat I have no function for and this goes back to when I was about 12, when I realized there’s this thing hanging there and I had no desires of using it. At least not on girls.”

Elle Rose van der Burg
#5 Elle Rose van der Burg - is a 20 year old transgender model, activist and musician (under the artist name Baby Caramelle). he uses his platform to negotiate new conversations around how people  perceive gender roles; in the hopes of creating more inter sectional spaces and discussions.

This first Ghanaian transgender said he was always mocked for having the features of a woman. he stated that he  always felt trapped in a man’s body and decided to change his sex when he had the opportunity to travel to Spain and that his family accepts who “she”  has become now.

Malak al-Kashef
#7 Malak al-Kashef - Born male, Malak al-Kashef recently had sex reassignment surgery and  is Egypt’s first   transgender woman. Miss saHHara transgender

Health / Re: Vagina Overheat : Why Women Must Stop Wearing Tight Cloths - Doctor by PublicHealthNig: 10:59am On Apr 08, 2019
PublicHealthNig:
A Clinical Microbiologist, Dr Tony Mbume, has advised women to stop wearing tight jeans, synthetic panties and leggings, to prevent vaginal infections.

According to him, most Nigerian females wear these synthetic pants, leggings and tight jeans in the name of fashion, without considering the health implications. Mbume, who works with CIAGIN Medical Laboratory, Oke-Afa, Isolo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that synthetic wears caused the vagina to ‘overheat’, which could disrupt its ecosystem.

He said that under wears made of latex, nylon or polyester and synthetic materials could trap moisture and warmth, making the vagina vulnerable to different types of infection “Synthetic panties can cause the vagina area to overheat and this can sometimes cause burning sores, itching or irritate the sensitive skin, as well as causing blisters.

“The friction caused by walking in tight pants and jeans can irritate the skin, resulting in the formation of blisters,’’ he said.

Mbume said that the vaginal burning and itching was usually accompanied by discharge and bad odour.

He further said that such infections could be dangerous if left untreated, as it might lead to infertility due to damage of the reproductive organs.

The microbiologist, however, recommended cotton underwear, to ventilate the vagina and eliminate infections, adding that wearing cotton underwear helped to keep the vagina free of excessive moisture and allows the area to breathe.

“Use cotton menstrual pads too. Cotton absorbs excess moisture and removes buildup heat from the area. It is the only materials that can become stronger when wet and is easily sterilized after use.

“Avoid sleeping with pants at night, to keep the vagina area dry throughout the night,’’ he said. Read : Top 5 Myths About Vagina Tightening

Culture / Bode Thomas: How Nigerian Lawyer Died Mysteriously After Insulting Alaafin by PublicHealthNig: 3:53pm On Apr 06, 2019
The intrigues and the power play in the Nigerian political sphere did not begin today I stumbled on this story on @Ngrfacts on twitter investigated deeper and decided to share .

Olabode Akanbi Thomas was born to the family of Andrew Thomas, a wealthy trader and auctioneer who was originally from Oyo but migrated to Lagos. He attended C.M.S. Grammar School, a missionary school founded by Thomas Babington Macaulay and James Pinson Labulo Davies. After completing his studies, he served as a junior clerk at the Nigerian Railway Corporation but towards the end of the year, he resigned his appointment and went to London to study law. He was called to the bar in 1942 and returned to Nigeria to establish what became a successful practice in Lagos.

According to many accounts, Bode was an excellent lawyer who was however arrogant. Due to his education Thomas was made the chairman of the Oyo Divisional Council at a time when the Oba Adeyemi (the father of the current Alaafin) was still a member.
At its Inaugural meeting of the council, Thomas arrived and all the other councilors, except Oba Adeyemi, stood up to welcome him. He rudely told the king “WHY WERE YOU SITTING WHEN I WALKED IN? WHY CANT YOU SHOW ME RESPECT?” At that time Bode was 34 years old while the Alaafin was in his 60s. The Alaafin felt very insulted. he told Bode “SHEY EMI ON GBO MO BAUN? EMI NI ONGBO BI AJA MO BAUN{ IS IT ME YOU ARE BARKING AT LIKE THAT? IS IT ME YOU ARE BARKING LIKE A DOG AT LIKE THAT? KEEP BARKING.”
That was on 22nd November 1953. It was reported that Bode Thomas got home and started barking. He barked and barked and barked all night. Then he died. He died on 23 November 1953.

Health / Top 10 Drugs And Substances Killing Young Nigerians by PublicHealthNig: 7:38pm On Mar 25, 2019
Top 10 Drugs and Substances Abused By Nigerians

Drug abuse, is a patterned use of a drug in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods which are harmful to themselves or others. It is also the inappropriate use of substances including alcohol, prescription medication, illegal drugs for purposes such as pleasure, to feel or perform better in certain situations, or to change one’s perception of reality. It is estimated that the average annual retail cost of psychotropic substances in Nigeria is more than USD $15,000, while alcoholic beverages, aside from spirit, generate more than USD $30,000 from sales to a consumer population of about 30 to 35 million people.

There is practically no major city in Nigeria that does not have hide outs or joints or clubs or ram-shackles where young Nigerians gather to buy or use drugs of different descriptions to feel good. However, Northern Nigeria appear to be the worst hit as young people especially girls and young women have latched unto illicit substances in the quest for cloud nine .

A survey conducted by Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Center for Research and Information on Substance Abuse with technical support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and funding from the European Union reported that the highest levels of drug use was recorded among young Nigerians between the ages of 25 to 39, with cannabis being the most widely used drug.

Health Complications

Drug and alcohol use impacts nearly every part of your body from your heart to your bowels. Substance abuse can lead to abnormal heart rates and heart attacks, and injecting drugs can result in collapsed veins and infections in your heart valves. Some drugs can also stop your bones from growing properly, while others result in severe muscle cramping and general weakness. Using drugs over a long period of time will also eventually damage your kidneys and your liver.

Infections

When you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you may forget to engage in safe sex practices. Having unprotected sex increases your chances of contracting a sexually transmitted disease. Sharing the needles used to inject certain drugs can give you diseases like hepatitis C, hepatitis B, and HIV. You can also spread common colds, the flu, and mono from sharing pipes and bongs.

Legal Consequences

Drug and alcohol abuse not only has negative effects on your health but can also have legal consequences that you’ll have to deal with for the rest of your life. Many employers require that you take a drug test before offering you a job—many of them even conduct random drug tests even after you become an employee. Refusing to give up drugs could end up making you unemployed, which comes with even more issues.

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can lead to a suspended driver’s license, usually for 6 months to 2 years. You’ll also need to pay heavy fines and may even spend some time in jail.

Financial Problems

Drugs and alcohol are expensive, especially when you’re using a lot and constantly. Substance abuse also impacts your productivity and success at work and in school. The time spent searching for, using and recuperating from drugs can be better spent learning new skills to advance your career.

The legal issues tied to drug use will increase your bills as well. Your car and health insurance rates may increase and you will have to find a way to pay for arrest warrants, DUIs, and legal counsel.

Injuries and Death

If you use drugs and alcohol, you’re more likely to experience physical injury or be involved in car accidents. Even worse, you also have an increased risk of death through both suicide and homicide.

These drug-related deaths are on the rise, doubling since the early 1980s. Alcohol specifically results in 5.2 million accidental injuries and 1.8 million deaths each year. It’s estimated that 1 out of every 4 deaths is caused by drugs and alcohol, according to the World Health Organization.

Health / Ebola Spread: What Nigerians Should Do by PublicHealthNig: 2:57pm On May 18, 2018
Spread of Ebola In Africa What Nigerians Should Do

Following the outbreak of the deadly Ebola disease in some African countries it has become imperative to once again arm Nigerians with the vital information they need to safeguard themselves and families considering the high mobility of Nigerians and the daily influx of Africans into Nigeria most of which occur through informal channels. Unlike the response to the Ebola outbreak in 2014 when the nation earned accolades following the strategic management of the disease, the mediocre manner in which the current Nigerian Government has managed the lassa fever epidemic is an indicator that if Nigerians don’t personally take needed public health safety steps, thousands would have died before those saddled with the responsibility for public health and safety realize what their duties are
What is Ebola Virus Disease?
Ebola virus disease or EVD is a viral hemorrhagic fever of humans caused by ebolaviruses. The Signs and symptoms of Ebola disease typically start between two days and three weeks after contracting the virus with a fever, muscular pain, headaches and sore throat. This is usually followed by, vomiting, diarrhea and some people begin to bleed both internally and externally after the organs of the body become affected. The disease currently has no cure although a new Ebola vaccine is currently being tested following some recent outbreaks.

What You Should Do to limit Your Risk of Contracting Ebola disease
1. Avoid bush meat or any meat you are not sure of its source.
2. Wash your hands frequently with detergent, soap using clean water.
3. Avoid trips to Ebola endemic countries (DRC , UGANDA , CONGO, GABON etc)
4. Avoid unnecessary handshakes, get a hand sanitizer for people to use in your office and educate them on the importance of the sanitizers, Get one for your kids to use in school frequently and if possible for their class.
5. Avoid buying food stuffs, clothing or other personal materials from markets/shops that share the same vicinity with live or roasted bush meat dealer’s or sellers

Health / Why Pregnant Women Should Not Drink Zobo by PublicHealthNig: 8:37pm On Oct 24, 2017
Why Pregnant Women Should Not Drink Zobo

Zobo drink is a familiar beverage loved by Nigerians. It is produced from dried roselle or sorrel leaves (Hibiscus Sabdariffa). This bright red drink is loved both for every day and as a refreshment drink in parties. This drink has many advantages: available, affordable, tasty, and refreshing and also has a lot of healthy benefits.
Zobo is not only refreshing, it can also be used to regulate blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, strengthen blood vessels, calm the nerves, reduce stress, for weight loss, and to improve sex drive. However, extensive literature review by Public health Nigeria revealed several reasons why pregnant women and Nursing mothers should avoid zobo drink.

Why Zobo Is Not Safe For Pregnant Women & Breast Feeding Mothers
A study published in the African journal of alternative and complementary medicine revealed that consuming zobo drink during pregnancy increases the possibility of giving birth to babies with low birth weight (LBW) possibly through the gluconeogenic activities of the elevated serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT). Results from a similar study which evaluated the effect of zobo drink during breast feeding also revealed that consuming zobo drink during lactation decreased maternal food and fluid intake, delays the onset of puberty in the female offspring and increased postnatal weight gain all of which are detrimental to health.
Zobo may be a healthy drink for most people but it is a drink that pregnant women and nursing mothers must avoid due to its implication on maternal and child health. But one amazingly healthy drink that Improves milk production that can be consumed by pregnant Women and Nursing Mothers is Kunu Drink.

Politics / Pick Sule Lamido As Your Presidential Candidate - Femi Aribisala Advises PDP by PublicHealthNig: 2:26pm On Oct 11, 2017
After series of tweets lampooning members of the first family over comment absolving President Muhamadu Buhari of any knowledge of the shameful state of the Aso Rock clinic which the President’s wife Aisha Buhari claimed has no single syringe or Paracetamol, Social Commentator and author Femi Aribisala has called on Nigeria’s former ruling party to immediately resolve to field Dr Sule Lanido the former Governor of Jigawa state as its flag bearer in the 2019 presidential elections.

In a tweet posted on his tweeter time line, Aribisala wrote “PDP Should Immediately Resolve to Field Sule Lamido as president in 2019 in order to unseat incompetent Buhari and move the country forward.

Apart from the current haphazard and uncoordinated response to the monkeypox outbreak President Buhari’s Government has since gone out of favour with most Nigerians owing to large scale corruption among the president’s closest aides, high food prices, a complex and inefficient foreign exchange regime that has made the naira almost worthless in foreign markets, unemployment and a crippled industrial sector that has lost over 60 percent of its workforce in less than 2 and half years.
Owing to his failing health, most political analysts had expected the president retire after his first term but from his body language and revelations coming from the recent NNPC scandal it appears the president is already preparing for the 2019 presidential election.
Sule Lamido who is the front runner to clinch the PDP ticket for the 2019 presidential elections barring any unforeseen circumstances was credited with transforming the landscape in Jigawa including the construction of the massive state owned airport which was transferred to the Federal Government. Many who know him describe him as a detribalized Nigerian with a nationalist mindset unlike Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso a comment re-echoed by most members of the Redeemed Christian church of God after the destruction of their Mega Church by the current APC led government in Jigawa. In the light of current scramble into the PDP for tickets, delegates to the party’s presidential primaries will have a long list of candidates to choose from.

Every disease seems to have similar symptoms, including HIV/Aids. I am wondering how we arrive at their various names
That's because the body's response mechanism is virtually thesame for most these infections
Health / Monkey Pox Outbreak: Important Things You Should Know About Monkeypox by PublicHealthNig: 5:43pm On Oct 06, 2017
with monkeypox in Bayelsa and the minister of health warning Nigerians to avoid consuming bush meats and rodents, it has become imperative to sensitize the public about the infectious disease called monkeypox
Monkeypox is a rare viral zoonosis (a virus transmitted to humans from animals) with symptoms in humans similar to those seen in the past in smallpox patients, although less severe. Smallpox was eradicated in 1980.However, monkeypox still occurs sporadically in some parts of Africa.

Transmission of Monkeypox
Transmission of monkeypox virus occurs when a person comes into contact with the virus from an animal, human, or materials contaminated with the virus. The virus enters the body through broken skin (even if not visible), respiratory tract, or the mucous membranes (eyes, nose, or mouth). Animal-to-human transmission may occur by bite or scratch, bush meat preparation, direct contact with body fluids or lesion material, or indirect contact with lesion material, such as through contaminated bedding. Human-to-human transmission is thought to occur primarily through large respiratory droplets. Respiratory droplets generally cannot travel more than a few feet, so prolonged face-to-face contact is required. Other human-to-human methods of transmission include direct contact with body fluids or lesion material, and indirect contact with lesion material, such as through contaminated clothing or linens.

Symptoms

In humans, the symptoms of monkeypox are similar to but milder than the symptoms of smallpox. Monkeypox begins with fever, headache, muscle aches, and exhaustion. The main difference between symptoms of smallpox and monkeypox is that monkeypox causes lymph nodes to swell (lymphadenopathy) while smallpox does not. The incubation period (time from infection to symptoms) for monkeypox is usually 7−14 days but can range from 5−21 days.
The illness begins with:
• Fever
• Headache
• Muscle aches
• Backache
• Swollen lymph nodes
• Chills
• Exhaustion

Prevention of small pox

• Avoid contact with animals that could harbor the virus (including animals that are sick or that have been found dead in areas where monkeypox occurs).
• Avoid contact with any materials, such as bedding, that has been in contact with a sick animal.
• Isolate infected patients from others who could be at risk for infection.
• Practice good hand hygiene after contact with infected animals or humans. For example, washing your hands with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when caring for patients.

With 15-24 year olds accounting for half of all new Sexually transmitted Diseases it has become imperative to provide information about the newly discovered sexually transmitted diseases and its implications for the sexually active Nigerian.
The new sexually transmitted diseases Mycoplasma Genitalium was a little known until recently when British Scientists uncovered its links to some sexual conditions.
M. genitalium is one of the most common microorganisms associated with genital tract infections.
The infection has several clinical features consistent with sexual transmission, including higher detection among sexually active individuals compared to sexually naïve adolescents, detection in partners of infected individuals, and predominance in younger individuals with multiple sexual partners and men who have sex with men (particularly those infected with HIV)

Several studies that had identified Mycoplasma as a STI have showed statistically significant increased rates of infection among sexually active women, with rate/risk of infection increasing with 2 or more sexual partners

Implications of contracting Mycoplasma genitalium infection

1. It can significantly affect the ability of the infected individual to have children

2. It complicate and increase the severity of the symptoms of HIV and other viral infections
3. The can lead to the development of ovarian cancers, lymphomas and prostate cancer

4. The infection can lead to pre-term birth and spontaneous abortion.

Do you have allergies?

-Anyone else in your family has the same problem? Immediate or extended family, I mean.
-Do you have a history of asthma, either in childhood or currently?
-Do you have other things you're allergic to ? Like pollen, dust, smell of frying oil, smoke etc?

Most likely a sea protein allergy. You're the second case of a most probable seafood allergy I've seen on NL. Bad news is that sea protein allergy overlap with most animal protein. That's why you react to meat as well.

Management plan? As with other forms of allergy, avoid seafood(e.g crayfish) Also avoid food, you're susceptible to. It may just be nausea and vomiting now- you wouldn't want to trigger an anaphylaxis sometime in the future. I you must eat these protein, fry them properly. The excess heat would denature the proteins and you'd most likely react. But it's best to avoid.

See your doctor for evaluation. Especially a gastroenterologist.

i concur with your submission there is also the need to do an urgent click test to assay for mutagenes that might can be inherited by a child leading to the deficiency of Carbamoyl Phosphate Synthetase

very interesting post indeed, excess Ammonia within the blood stream is a recipe for disaster this is because failure of the body to eliminate the excess nitrogen in the form of ammonia can lead to neurological disorders . in infants accumulation is mostly caused by deficiency of Carbamoyl Phosphate Synthetase which is determined by click test as well as other parameters
Health / This Is Why You Should Not Eat Snakes by PublicHealthNig: 9:56am On Aug 28, 2017
This is Why you should Not Eat Snakes

Snakes like many reptiles is on the menu in many cultures especially in Africa and Asia. However, not all snakes are "edible" even those classified as non venomous come with other health "baggages" that could sometimes compromise the health of those who consume them .
with the widespread killing and consumption of reptiles it became imperative to remind the population of the of some of the dangers that comes with the consumption of these lethal animal.

There are several dangers of consuming snake meat this includes

1. They can still bite, inject venom and kill several hours hours after the head has been cut off .
In 2014 a celebrated chef (Peng) was preparing a dish made from cobra flesh was killes after the snake bit his hand - 20 minutes after he had severed it from its body. Peng Fan from Foshan, Guangdong province, southern China, had been preparing a special dish made from Indochinese spitting cobra, a rare delicacy. It was as he went to chuck the cobra's head in the bin that it bit him, injecting Mr Peng with its flesh-killing, neurotoxic venom.

2. Death from Residual Venom
an under-cooked or under-roasted snake meat could lead to a severe case food poisoning especially when contaminated with residual venom

3. Microbiological and heavy metal contamination

A study conducted by researchers of the World health Organization (WHO) showed that eating snakes can lead to sparganosis and trichinosis .
However, when it comes to snake meat the greatest danger comes from Salmonella and Staphylococcus.

4. Pricks from Poisonous Bones .

Snakes have an extensive network of bone bones that makes handling the meat of some highly venomous snakes dangerous sometimes it is safer to dispose than consume

whether it is snake meat or snake egg , snake oil or snake venom how you choose to handle snakes or snake products can sometimes be the difference between life and death

The Director of Primary Health Care in Akoko-Edo Local Government Council of Edo, Sunday Yerumoh, on Monday confirmed two cases of Lassa fever in the locality.

Mr. Yerumoh made the confirmation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Igarra, the administrative headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.

He said the patients were quickly admitted in the Surveillance Unit of the local government health care centre, when health personnel noticed that they displayed symptoms of Lassa fever.

“The patients were brought to the surveillance unit of the local government and their blood samples were positive.

“And in conjunction with the Institute of Lassa Fever Control at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, we quickly moved them to Irrua and we were able to contain the spread of the disease,’’ he said.

Mr. Yerumoh said the patients were responding to treatment at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.

He advised the public to ensure that they maintain a very high standard of personal hygiene and ensure that their environment was kept clean.

Mr. Yerumoh said the council had stepped up its campaign on maintaining a clean environment at all times, to stem the tide of the virus, and urged people of the community to be vigilant and avoid contact with rats.

“We need to step up preventive measures and this means people must maintain a high level of hygiene at all times.

“Foodstuffs should be kept in rodent-proof containers and people should also desist from drying their food stuffs on the road, as they never can tell when rats will defecate or urinate on them,’’ he said.

The primary healthcare director said the local government would continue to sensitise the community on the danger of lassa fever and other related diseases.

“We will continue to carry out sensitisation at every flag-off opportunity of our health programme, to enable our disease surveillance officers to enlighten the people on the danger of lassa fever and other related diseases.

“We will continue to go round the communities to sensitise the people to ensure they keep their environment clean from any form of diseases,’’ he said.

Lassa fever, also known as Lassa hemorrhagic fever (LHF), is a type of viral hemorrhagic fever caused by the Lassa virus.

The virus is commonly transmitted by rats with symptoms including fever, weakness, headaches, vomiting, muscle pains, bleeding, and multi-organ involvement. (NAN)
