Iwofa mean servant in Yoruba , back in those days people serve others for a period of time to repay debts they or their family couldn't repay and they would become free again when they completed the terms. So someone could just become an Iwofa and serve the family or someone they owe for a period of time to repay back the debts they owe that person or family.

Abobaku as long being abolished and it is no longer practice in Yoruba land but even abobaku live as large as the king until the king die.
