Politics › President Tinubu Approves SouthEast Investment Company With ₦150 Billion Capital by Putindbutt(op): 4:38pm On Jul 20, 2025 |
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the South-East Investment Company (SEIC), a federally backed investment vehicle with a projected capital base of N150 billion aimed at accelerating industrialisation and unlocking private sector growth across Nigeria’s South-East region.
The announcement was made in a statement published on Friday via the official handle of the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to the statement, the SEIC will operate as a subsidiary of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and is structured to mobilise private capital, drive long-term economic transformation, and promote inclusive development in the region.
Initially, the company will be wholly owned by the SEDC but is expected to transition into a public-private partnership (PPP), incorporating investments from South-East state governments, private sector players, development finance institutions, and the diaspora.
The SEIC will oversee a range of targeted investment portfolios, including infrastructure, entrepreneurship, education, and other strategic interventions.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has granted executive approval for the establishment of the South-East Investment Company (SEIC), a dedicated investment vehicle under the South East Development Commission (SEDC) designed to mobilise private capital, unlock regional competitiveness, and fast-track industrialisation in the South-East,” the statement read in part.
It added, “ With a projected blended capital base of over N150 billion, SEIC will mobilise resources through hybrid bonds, equity participation, and callable capital structures.”
To achieve its funding goals, the company will leverage a mix of hybrid bonds, equity participation, and callable capital structures. Pilot investments and fundraising activities are expected to commence by the fourth quarter of 2025.
More insights
President Tinubu presented the Certificate of Incorporation to the Commission in a brief ceremony at the State House in Abuja.
Present at the event were the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, the Managing Director of the SEDC, Mr. Mark Okoye, and members of the Commission’s executive team.
According to Okoye, the initiative marks a major milestone for economic planning in the region.
“The SEIC represents a bold step forward in regional development. It is more than a financial vehicle. It is a long-term strategy to unlock private capital, de-risk investment, and deliver sustainable economic growth for the South-East. We are building an institution that will stand the test of time and serve as a bridge between government priorities and private sector efficiency,” he said.
The SEIC draws inspiration from the legacy of the defunct Eastern Nigeria Development Corporation (ENDC), which helped stimulate industrial growth in the old Eastern Region under the leadership of Dr. Michael Okpara.
The current initiative is expected to revive that momentum by aligning regional strengths with national development priorities.
The Presidency also noted that the SEIC will undergo all necessary regulatory and compliance processes to ensure full operational readiness in line with global standards. https://nairametrics.com/2025/07/18/president-tinubu-approves-south-east-investment-company-with-n150-billion-capital-base/

givedemwotowoto: PO actually got Anambra back on track. His governorship tenure in Anambra is comparable to Musa Yar'Adua's governorship tenure in Katsina, with focus on education, healthcare and infrastructure.
Anambra became the best ranked state for Education, Insecurity drastically reduced, many road construction projects (800km of roads to be precise), many of them rural road networks.
Anambra had gross reserves of N36 billion + US$150 million when he left office in 2014.
Anambra GPD grew to about 40% in 2 years in PO's second term between 2009 and 2014, that's about 20% GDP growth per year. In comparison, the average national GDP growth for the same period was about 7%.
He handed public secondary schools back to the missionaries, Obi did nothing to Education but the efforts of the missions, the Catholics who took back their schools and upgraded them. The public tertiary institutions ( University and Polytechnic ) under Obi were in comatose, lecturers went on strikes, Obi Increased tution fee by 200%. Stop giving credit of the missions to the Agulu fraud. The secondary schools were returned to the Catholics but the tertiary institutions under him were worse off. |

How and who did Econet merge with, if any. Can you please let us know? While there’s no dispute that the allocated 0802 still remains, can you tell us what happened to Econet after 2004? Can you tell us who owns the Bharti Airtel? Can you tell us the shareholding structure in Airtel Nigeria? Can you tell us what percentage of Airtel Nigeria is owned by Lagos state government, as you evidence that revenue is generated in that capacity? Can you tell us how Lagos state makes some money from Airtel?
Again, what you do not know about International brewery in Anambra state, do not shoook your mouth into it, without proper information. Ignorance is not an excuse friend. Can you please prove that Obi has any share whatsoever, using either his personal name or his business name in International breweries.
I do not intend to continue spending time with you talking this matter, if you are not willing to research without bias? You must take away the bias in your kin to make a clear decision on International brewery.

Where is that sane Econet today? Can you tell us how the same Econet packed up? If the business was profitable, why did Econet pack up or why bring the then Vmobile?
Making claims without substantiation can send you to jail. Can you show evidence of Obi’s ownership of shares in the brewery? Agreed but not conceded that he owns shares, he left power 11 years ago and yet the brewery makes billions annually for the state and citizens. Today, it was evident from the state government just three days ago published that the brewery is the largest government owned tax paying business in the state. Or you did not read that?
When you say people were not born while Tinubu was the Governor of Lagos state, can you tell us your age then and where you reside in Lagos. We can tell you exactly what happened in that area then. Certainly you were not more than 5 years old in 1999, that is if you were born before that year. Tinubu received tax from Econet and today, we hear stories of how his tax collection in Lagos made him the man that he is today in the same Lagos. Get small shame na.

Only ADC can determine her members. If Obi peradventure is a member of LP, and contests then wins the APC ticket, only persons who participated in the Primary can challenge him in Court and even at that, he is still technically safe.
The moment he is cleared to contest, he is good to go. Is the party's constitution not also exclusive to the party?. The ongoing court cases are also being contested by members of the party. So, technically he can contest but technically he is not safe until he picks up the membership card. |

If you fix $13m at a mere 10% annual interest rate, you will be making a cool $1.3m or about N3 billion Naira every year.
With what was declared by Anambra state government, Sabmiller is not anywhere generating this on the investment Anambra state stashed into it.
Soludo is right. That investment is worthless. A good business man would have turned that $13m multiple folds by now.
Peter Obi used Anambra state finances to grow a business he has personal interests in. I concur with you, Obi is a trader, his knowledge on Investment decision is limited. Compare to what Tinubu did.

I am not defending illegal house arrests or infringement on his right but this statement here is false. Finally, Soludo has helped us to mention the investment obi attracted to Anambra state during his tenure as governor that is among three top 6 tax payers. Now tell us the investment Tinubu attracted to Lagos state that is among the top 20 tax payers in the state. Like I said, most of you are still kids back then or just recently following politics in 2019/2023. You most likely was never born when Tinubu was Governor of Lagos state. Go and read up the articles on the screenshots and update your knowledge. People dey follow Tinubu because he sabi road, no be by false statistics or lying or packaging a crook as saint. Obi invested Anambra funds in brewery where he is a shareholder which means Obi is personally getting a share of the funds accruing to the company and that's a type of a fraudulent man he is. Tinubu attracted ECONET to Nigeria, invested Lagos funds into it (without being a shareholder in the company to reap off the state like Obi is doing) and then made a tremendous profits for the state. It helped him reinvest it and also fulfil his obligations to the civil servants at a time the local government funds was withheld by OBJ Govt. I'm very sure say na Twitter and social media hype dey carry una dey follow the Agulu fraud, not based off on your personal research about him.

nairalanda1: Getting off oil means getting from oil forming most of our revenue, and becoming an economy that uses its available natural resources to make goods that the world needs.
Our leaders, including the current one have talked about it, but most of them leave office without doing anything about it.
AM sure you will get angry with me, but the sad truth is, NIgerians are not ready to run a manufacutring economy, be it obident, tinubu supporter, gej supporter, buhari supporter, etc. Even the idea of biafra is basically one tribe gets access to oil money which it would use to develop an import based economy.
You talk about textiles and so on, all of them failed because they were protected from competing with the external world. Once the world market opened up in the 1990's , problems started. And many of them relied too much on imported components and raw materials that should have been made in nigeria.
At the end, I am yet to see any government that is serious about getting nigeria from being a sharing money economy to being a producer economy. Calling me a kid does not change that fact.
Good afternoon. Stop trying to be half smart, twisting simple English when you've been caught. Get of oil means we should leave oil or come off it. In this context, it means to be detached or removed from oil, which is practically globally impossible. You're just like an arm chair analysts talking from your fantasy. According to TimeManager, governance is not where you wave a magic wand, it is systematic and time driven.

fergie001: I don't try to undermine what Tinubu is doing in Nigeria and South East but don't speak like some people are morons.
1. The Supreme Court must have nearly equal representation of all geopolitical zones, all must have at least three and not more than four. The SE had none because the only one there died, but that doesn't mean he did the SE any favours. Mind you, before, the NC also had only 1 Supreme Court Justice who manadtorily retired after Tinubu was sworn-in.
2. Will that be the first time one of the service chiefs is from the SE? Buhari didn't, nobody killed him. The SS/SE bloc got it under Buhari and now under Tinubu.
3. Was the regional development commission a favour? Buhari gave (using your own language) the North East theirs in 2017. The SE bill was passed in February 2024, several momths before the South West, South South, North Central & North West bills.
4. NCAT is in Zaria. What did Tinubu do? Decentralised it, so that all geopolitical zones will have it. How is that a favour to one particular zone?
5. Massive ongoing road construction, can you please and please name those places?
I would have ignored if you had mentioned specific project(s) geared towards the region, in particular that he is doing (like this one) and not the blanket and share-to-everybody (though not bad) thing you see as a favour. When Buhari didn't do it, what did you do to him?, When GEJ didn't do it , what did you do to him?. If Tinubu didn't do it, what would you do to him?. Yet these are what makes you shout about being marginalized. Tinubu is not expecting much from you though, he's only doing what he's doing being the President. |

Politics › ‘He Was Part Of My Family’ – Tinubu Pays Tribute To Dantata by Putindbutt(op): 9:33am On Jul 19, 2025 |
President Bola Tinubu on Friday in Kano described the late Aminu Dantata as a titan of integrity, humility, and generosity, whose life was dedicated to service, philanthropy, and devotion to others.
“He gave so much of himself to the service of our country and its people,” Tinubu said during a condolence visit to the family of the late business mogul in Kano.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed details of the visit in a statement he signed Friday titled ‘In Kano, President Tinubu pays tribute to Aminu Dantata’s philanthropy, integrity.’
The renowned industrialist passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Dubai at the age of 94 and was buried in Madina, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Tinubu said Dantata embodied the highest values of public service and human compassion.
“This is a deeply personal visit for me. I came to condole with the Dantata family and the good people of Kano. He was not just a respected figure; he was part of my family,” the President said.
He recalled the counsel and prayers he received from the late Dantata during the 2023 presidential election campaign.
“I came to him for prayers before the election, and he gave me his blessings. I promised to come back and thank him, but instead of me visiting, he came to Abuja. That was the kind of man he was: humble, simple, and sincere,” the President said.
He praised the late elder statesman for his unwavering honesty, compassion, and generosity, describing him as a man who lived for others.
“If friendship and goodwill continue into the hereafter, Dantata will be there in the marketplace, feeding the hungry and comforting the sick. He gave so much of himself to the service of our country and its people,” he said.
The President extended heartfelt condolences to the Dantata family, the government and people of Kano State, and the entire nation.
“We have lost a titan. We have lost the conscience of our country. May Allah, in His infinite mercy, grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” he prayed.
Tinubu offered prayers for peace, strength, and solace for the bereaved family and all those mourning the departed elder.
Speaking on behalf of the government and people of Kano State, Governor Abba Yusuf extended his gratitude to the President for his compassion and unwavering support during the mourning period.
He recalled that following the elder statesman’s passing, the President dispatched a high-powered federal delegation to Saudi Arabia, led by the Minister of Defence, to attend the funeral rites.
The governor also led a state delegation, alongside his Jigawa State counterpart, to join the federal delegation at the burial in Medina.
“The entire process was seamless and successful, thanks to your leadership and support. We also know your appeals to Saudi Arabia and Dubai leaders, which facilitated the necessary arrangements. For this, we remain grateful,” Yusuf said.
He commended the President for previously sending the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, and another federal delegation to condole with the family before personally taking time to visit despite his demanding national schedule.
“We pray Allah (SWT) grant our father and elder statesman eternal rest. We also pray for your continued strength and good health, so that you may continue to deliver on your commitment to building a better Nigeria,” the governor added.
The eldest son of the deceased, Tajudeen Dantata, thanked the President for honouring the family with his presence and support.
“Much has been said today about His Excellency’s swift and heartfelt response upon hearing of our father’s passing. We cannot thank you enough. You have demonstrated closeness with him while he was alive, and even in his death, you have proven that he was a dear brother and friend.
“We witnessed your relationship with him before you became President. We saw how you engaged with him during his lifetime and reacted to his demise. On behalf of the family, we thank you wholeheartedly,” he said.
The late Dantata’s son assured the President that the family would uphold the values and legacy of their late patriarch.
“We pray for your continued good health, Your Excellency, and for the courage and tenacity you have shown in your efforts to lead our nation forward. May you succeed in your mission to build a greater Nigeria.
”We wish you the best of health. For the courage, tenacity that you have shown to take the country out of its doldrums, to clear the path to a greater Nigeria, thank you very much. You will be in our prayers always,” he said.
Among those who accompanied the President on the condolence visit were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmud, Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Also present at the condolence visit were the Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, who is a nephew of the late Aminu Dantata, elder statesman Tanko Yakassai and Mohammed Indimi. https://punchng.com/dantata-served-his-people-wholeheartedly-says-tinubu/
