What I have gathered however, has been astonishing. Atheism is not a worldview. The ones on NL are united by only one line: disbelief in God. Other than dt, there is nothing else. NOTHING!?! Not even the fabled logic or rational thinking. U only use it when convenient but u dont live by it.

Yes, what unites "atheists" on Nairaland is: disbelief in god. Atheism cuts across many philosophical thoughts and some worldviews. Hence, some atheists on here are: existentialists; humanists; evolutionists; Buddhists; etc.

This thread was inspired by a conversation i had with a 'religionist', lately.

He (the theist) was furious and of the opinion that atheists are anti-God. In his words, he said "they don't want to hear anything about God, they don't accept anything about God, atheists are anti-God".

In another thread on this forum, an American nurse/doctor claimed that her God healed her of ebola.

Now, to disillusion this prejudiced notion that atheists are anti-God; "Atheists are not anti-Yahweh or Allah, rather, we posit that all their said interferences and/or 'supernatural bulldada' are explainable within the realm of science & psychology and hence are normal/natural occurrences."

We do not assume to know it all, but history has shown that the word "supernatural" is an uncouth way of saying "i don't know". Is it just a coincidence or a proof, that the said 'supernatural occurrences' are peddled more among illiterates, rural areas, megalomaniacs and hallucinators?

Religion thrives on placebo, hypochondria and the mind. 10% of people that got diagnosed with ebola will recover with just good diet, hygiene and immune system. But, if these people had prayed to a deity, any deity(be it poo in the latrine), the recovery will be attributed to the deity and termed 'supernatural'.
That's clumsy and balderdash.

In our(atheists) opinion, these occurrences are normal and happen irrespective of one's religious inclination. BTW, a miracle is supposed to be a phenomenon or an event that defies the laws of nature and therefore paranormal. So, next time you present a normal occurrence to us, as an act of your deity, be sure we're gonna dismiss it.

That's correct. You can't know God and then say He don't exist. It's like saying my father didn't exist, i know him. It's crazy. One may get very angry with God because of whatever, but to say in one's heart "there is no God", that's a fool.

To say in one's heart that "there's a god", is an assumption as influenced by culture and religion.

To pick a god out of the millions of gods as the one-true god is appealing to one's emotions and bias, and as such "foolish"

So, wait until you have proven them before talking.

Prayer is not a one way thing. It's a 2 way thing,as God speaks all the time,u just can't hear him.

JESUS himself said,my sheep know me and they hear and obey my voice. It may even interest u to Know that God in fact speaks a lot and wants us to obey.

It's easier for those with the gift of discernment to hear his voice,so u can channel ur next prayer towards that,for the gift of discernment.

Also the next time u pray,after speaking, be quiet for a few minutes while remaining in the spirit,and then listen for GOD'S voice.God will speak.

It's also important to point out dat many people jump up and get bak to their daily routine after prayers,they never give a minute to listen to God.
