as a freelancer, I make around 100k upward every month (depending on job) Good part is that I ve 80k constant that is not negotiable + plus 24hrs fast internet connection already paid for. but am still gunning for more.

I will advice you to be faithful with your employer, let them know your level of knowledge when it comes to web development. telling them you know what you don't really know is like biting more than you can chew. which always cause problem.

You telling them lie doesn't mean you won't get the job. just let me know If I can offer any other help.

They can even arrange for a training to fasten your learning.

as for the experience, for programming over 7year, C# 3 years. (I believe that in this industry of ours, people who made it far are those who apply the knowledge immediately they acquire it).

The best option in my own opinion, I was sent to a training on CSS/PHP/MYSQL(fully sponsored by my former employer) I found out that I ve to even correct my so-called instructor.

gather your resources, buy a Laptop, get books (if you need any, Send me your mail.). discipline yourself and read. you be surprise the ground you will cover. don't forget to ask questions.

Is there no one who has asp.net and php on their systems?

I am using visual studio 2008, with WAMP SERVER 2.0i

since you already have WAMP server already working, all you need to do is install Visual Studio, when u debug/run your project, it automatically creates a server with a port ( u will see something like "Http://localhost:4354/default.asp/

The main thing is that with visual studio 2008, u don't need to install another serve to debug u project.

Hi there, it just came to my notice that Nigeria lacks asp.net developers. I miss alot of project and income cos i find it difficult findinding an ASP>NET developer hence i drop/decline the project. Everybody is all about php, mysql(no ms sql) etc. Common guys. we dont have to put all our eggs in one basket ehhhhhhh!!!, lets checkout and see TECHNOLOGY on other platforms and appreciate it. So now there is a project on ground that has to do with "scraping" using webclient in vb.net. its amin aim is to pull data from websites into, format it and send it to a client using C#. So if anybody is up to this, you will end up having a long time relationship with an international client from France(my client). as for your job, if it's about sending data to a client, you can do that using XML, XML is platform independent, and can be use to interact with any server technology.

@inf8nity,I can tell you that they are many problems CMSes cannot solve. If I may ask where do you run to in such situation since you can't code.

and don't tell me to mention them cos I'll write a text book of it.

well @quadrillo u are confusing web designers for web developers and also the ones u know don't know AJAX cuz the one i know use it a lot i do to some point but i hate using it cuz it messes up History and Navigation. not every technology should be used anyhow unless it is applicable.also i believe the work of one will differentiate them from others.i have seen many nigerians that are very good in design.it's the 5k web designer that makes othrs look unprofessional, ps building a site from scratch is safer at least u know where the problem might lie.but also why do that when tools are available also

@pc guru, am not confusing anything for anything, the poster said "Why Are Nigerian Websites Not On The Cutting Edge!" and to my own interpretation it means in all part of the website from design down to functionality.

I never said that we Nigerians doesn't use AJAX, I know enough Nigerian Web Designers/Developers that are very good with AJAX. I even gave a percentage to that effect.

Don't be discourage about the 10k website jobs, I laugh when a client tells me prices lower than 30k for d simplest site u can think of. my final words is "you ve my number, call me when you are ready."

Sincerely, If you are Good I mean GOOD, you never be Idle, you will even be too busy for all those useless Jobs, even client wey pay 70k dey run after me up and down.

am a self taught, so it all about learning for the right reasons. I LOVED IT. from day one not for the money but for the fact that I want to be a professional.

Even if it's just HTML, CSS, Javascript, others can come later, sincerely the best teacher is yourself and you ask questions from a fellow developer.

I know enough foreign website that are not cutting any edge(LOL) so it not a Nigeria thing, is just that the number is alarming in Nigeria.
