Welcome to my world... I got an iPhone 5 as a call to bar gift in 2014.I rushed and dashed my brother the Nokia Lumia phone i was using (big mistake). Everything @op said is true. I was so frustrated eh. One day i just packed d phone and went to fayose market in ekiti and sold the phone. Since then i don't touch anything made by apple. He didn't even say how frustrating it is loading your phone up with music via iTunes on a pc. The day i synced my songs in my music library, all the previous songs were wiped off. Why? Because those songs were not from my iTunes account i registered to transfer the songs. Those abroad have no issues with Apple products. It's a no in Nigeria.

What's more annoying is the fact that only songs synced from iTunes on pc or bought from Apple store can play in the phone's music app. Even if you have songs gotten via xender, it remains there, it won't reflect in the music app or your music library in the app. I remember how i had to buy ed sheeran's "thinking out loud" on iTunes for 260 naira because the songs played on the phones music app and xender doesn't sound d same way. Dunno how they did that, songs played on d default music app were more punchy with good bass. My next phone would definitely be a Samsung galaxy edge, though my friends complain about poor battery life and how expensive it is to fix it when spoilt.

A man did registry marriage (statutory) with his wife about 20years ago. Now the man is about to file for divorce.

What I want to ask is; I hope they won't share properties?

The man is the owner of the house they're living in.. he owns almost all the properties in the house.

He has two cars and the woman also have her own car.

So in the case of a divorce, I hope the woman will leave with only her car and other stuffs she acquired during the marriage and things she brought into marriage?

Lol.. Nigerian men!Well,the issue of sharing properties cannot come in except the wife claims that as a relief in her Answer to the petition for dissolution of marriage. Come on, settlement of property and maintenance is an ancillary relief which your friend owes his wife if we want to be just here.

He is the one filing for divorce, she has given him 20 years of her life. She may even throw in how she supported him (even if it's not financial support ). He can't leave her now with an uncertain financial future, after she spent two decades building his.

If she claims for settlement of properties in the marriage, the judge usually would look at the circumstances of the case and facts supplied to reach a decision on what to give her.
Judges have a wide discretionary power to settle matrimonial properties as it deems just to do so.
God help the man if the case is heard by a divorced female judge. Lol..

My free legal advice (that i should have charged 10k for) is as follows -
The man should set up a meeting with his estranged wife and her lawyer in a legal setting where the issues can be discussed. That's proper procedure. If she doesn't want to see him, he can get his lawyer to write a letter requesting her attendance at the meeting.

The essence of meeting with her and maybe her lawyer is to discuss what she would be claiming. Would she be asking for maintenance or settlement fee of 500k monthly? Would she be asking for a house?That way an agreement can be reached before the divorce proceedings commences in court.

I have handled a divorce where the women only asked that the children's upkeep to be taken care of and a payment pattern was agreed upon. They told me they don't need the man's money, hence wd didn't claim for maintenance. The court won't give her what she didn't ask for, so your friend has to know what she would be claiming and prepare his case bearing that in mind.

In the end, the judge has a discretion to award reliefs sought by parties in a divorce proceeding, according to the facts and circumstances of the case at hand.
.If she specifically asks that she shares in the matrimonial properties, and the facts and circumstances of the case makes it justifiable that she does deserves a share, the court will order that.

The court can order settlement of properties owned by them jointly or individually, it all boils down to what would be just and equitable for the children of the marriage and parties involved. Let him prepare his mind in that direction. Who owns what or what anyone brought into the marriage doesn't really matter
because of the judge's discretion.

. The court can order settlement ie share any property belonging to any of the parties. The court usually considers the financial standing of the parties, their responsibilities going forward and the general facts/circumstances of the case.

Marriage is a partnership. Even when business partnerships end, nobody leaves empty handed except the ones that specifically didn't ask for anything and would not want anything to be given to them. It all boils down to what transpired between the man and his wife , the financial standing of both parties, children of the marriage and most importantly, the reliefs they seek from the court in the petition, cross petition or answer.
