One thing I fault among my fellow men is "hypocrisy and say abuse of patriarchal privileges". Just some days ago and a fellow man who came visiting saw me sweeping the home (that was on Sunday) ,to make things worse when my queen came back from church she asked me if I've prepared food and I answered yes.
My friend Emma started calling me all sorts of name to the point of insulting me.

He was saying "this leg when you dor give this woman so" and I told him that this is a civilized world that my wife isn't a slave.
He then told me that only a foolish man will cook, wash plates or clean the home when he has a few wife.. my wife was even hearing what he was saying but he didn't care.

I then asked him if his wife is contributing to the upkeep of their family because his wife is a working class, Emma told me that yes his wife must contribute! but he can't cook or wash plates for her. you see what I'm talking about? he started asking me stupid questions .
Instead of quarrelling I kindly told him to quit the talk but he refused an instead went outside angrily and drove off.

lol.. No two marriages are alike.. Pls stay away from friends like that and keep being the man you are. Na those kain men dey scatter their friends marriages. Marriage is a partnership. When oga was in town, if am making soup for d week. He makes d stew. He does house chores and doesn't see it as a big deal. Leave that man to practice all that in his own home.

Sorry uncle. I don't know if it's only fedex that they see to charge for import duties. I shipped hair to South Africa, this happened.Used them to Namibia and Ghana, same story. Wheras i used courierplus, no issue! Even sending through Nigerian Registered post doesn't incur these charges. Just go and pay, or kiss your phone bye. Me importing hair in serious commercial quantities sef hasn't been billed 81000 by customs before. Haba, na range rover u wan clear abi wetin? As fedex don involve, you can't tell the exact custom warehouse the phone would be taken to if you don't pay. From there, custom guys i know can help release it with like 20k max.

This life is funny sha. I am here not practicing despite being called to bar legitimately , wheras some are practicing actively as fake lawyers. Wish i can sell my LL.b and BL, cos i don't see myself using it again.

why not? That period we got for our house and my shop too. The one for my house was N50000 because the connection was 3 face, plus new registration of the account. Just go to Nepa office their staffs run this racket there. Though it's better to get someone a friend has used, because some can eat your money and you won't see meter. For my shop, it was all official. After two weeks of payment, their staff brought the meter to my shop and installed it. I just bought wire only and dashed them small thing for beer. You can't carry the meter when relocating because the meter has a number and it's registered to that location /address. It won't work elsewhere. I have an agreement with my shop landlady that the next person renting after me will reimburse me fully for the meter.

You literally mean the man should bear the financial burden while the woman does what?. This is the 3rd year in my marriage and I'm sharing bills and house chores with my queen and we're cool.

By all standards I don't think I'm a middle class, I'm way higher than that. Even if I'm a billionaire I'll still continue to share bills with my wife.

It's funny you thought only broke men share bills with their wives. My dad never shared bills but my uncles do and some are even richer than my dad.

you are right oga. Am married now and believe me, i can't just sit and watch Oga pick up all d bills. Wetin i deg use my money do na? Most times i just get or pay for things without disturbing him. That's the fastest way the major projects at hand can be achieved within a short time.

This is not encouraging at all. I'm planning to come to Nigeria to invest come November 2018 and all this tax things I'm hearing about is really scaring me. I saw iyabo ojo's rants on tax. I remembered one woman who operates a fast food also complained bitterly. The comments I read online are so scaring. Federal govt tax, state tax, local govt tax, phcn, association, town council etc. Abeg how much be the profit wey person go they pay all this heavy tax? How would one pay salaries after tax deduction? What about the rent?
All these are scaring and not an encouragement to small business owners.

Please I want to ask, what's the way out? My question is for those that have successfully managed a business for years. How have you been able to cope with all these charges abi tax? Can these charges be reduced or negotiated?

I don't want to waste money and then go back and start from the scratch again o. To dey wash bathroom and toilet no easy at all.
If Nigeria is not opened for small business owners, it's better I remain where I am and look for a home base business to do or better still gather all my earnings and relocate to canada than to come to Nigeria and govt and her associates all my earnings.

Stay where u dey o.. Uhmm! Nigeria will frustrate your efforts to run a business. I know that first hand. Personally i don't pay tax. My business name is registered, but i don't even have a corporate account. I don't like stress at all biko. Even P. O. S, i no do o. My customers do bank transfer to me.My saving grace is that my shop is in a Police Officer's wives association plaza. Nobody like council or local government comes there to bill us. Even signboard fees people usually pay, i didn't pay a dime because that plaza has immunity from such bills. Since i paid my rent, the only thing i do is just buy my phed unit of N2000, do gotv subscription N1900 and am good to go for the month. Another thing that helps is to buy a prepaid meter. A nepa staff that buys hair from me gave me that advice. Those that are waiting for free one have already incurred bill that's times two or more of what they wud av used in buying a meter. I got mine 20000 and i thank God daily because nothing concerns me and phed again. If I exhaust my unit and decide to stay in darkness, nobody would harass me. Just do your due diligence well before moving to Nigeria to set up a business, it's just God that has been favoring me so far.

lol.. U even have time answering him. Only a business owner can understand your plight. I know how much i spent setting up my hair shop, i never recover till now. Your shop rent is even cheap, that's some people's monthly rent here in Port Harcourt. Most shops go for at least 15000 monthly.

Sorry bro. To solve your phcn issue, just close eye and buy a prepaid meter. That was the advise i was given and am glad i took it. I got mine for 20000 naira in Port Harcourt and i have peace. If I recharge 2000 naira, i use it d whole month (though, i don't run AC for long hours,only when i have special customers..lol).That's how i manage my life, else you will just be getting annoying phcn bill. Commercial tariff is higher, and estimated bill is always too outrageous . They cut the light of most of my shop neighbors. Some dey owe up to 200k.Imagine giving a tailor bill of 64000 for one month. He only has sewing machines, small tv and dvd. It's not like me that has a lot of energy sucking appliances (Dispenser, Ac, tv, stabilizers, hair straightener /curler etc). He is regretting not buying meter when i got mine. The issue can be annoying, but with prepaid meter you will have small peace of mind.

exactly.. If iron is too expensive, use genuine sapele wood. It's very strong and not easy to break. Use it to cover the whole ceiling.It's a big risk leaving one's shop ceiling unprotected. Just imagining how she would be feeling now.
