The photograph was first published by Sir Victor Goddard, a retired RAF (Royal Air Force) officer and taken at Cranwell at the time of armistice after the First World War. It shows the members of Goddard’s squadron who served in WWI at the HMS Daedalus training facility, now known as the Royal Navy and Air Service (RNAS) Lee-on-Solent. Freddy Jackson was an air mechanic who was accidentally killed by an airplane propeller two days before the photo. His funeral was conducted on the very day the photograph was taken.

In 1963, an unidentified woman wearing a headscarf similar to that worn by Russian women, giving her the nickname “Babushka Lady,” was seen in various films and photographs taken at that time. She is seen to be holding a camera and standing on the grass between Elm and Main streets. After the assassination, she was seen crossing Elm Street. None of any photographs or films taken clearly captured her face because she was either facing away from the camera or had her face obscured by her own camera. So, neither she nor the photographs she had taken that day were ever found.

The anonymous woman mailed the two photographs to the Sheriff’s Department of Sarasota County, Florida, along with a letter in which she complained that the animal entered her backyard on three different nights and stole apples. The “skunk ape,” also known as the “swamp cabbage man,” “stink ape,” “Florida Bigfoot,” or “Myakka skunk ape” is said to be a Hominid cryptid believed to be found in Florida, North Carolina, and Arkansas. It is claimed that its appearance is accompanied by a very unpleasant odor. Before 2000, reports of sightings were quite common in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1974, a sighting of large, foul-smelling, hairy creature walking on two legs was reported in the suburbs of Dade County, Florida. The United States National Park Service considers “skunk ape” to be a hoax.

In the village of Hessdalen Valley, unusual lights have been reported since at least the 1930s. They are of unknown origin, appear at day and night, above or below the horizon, in either bright yellow, white, or red colors, and seem to float through and above the valley. They last anywhere from a few seconds to over an hour. They sometimes move at great speeds and at other times just sway back and forth slowly. According to a hypothesis, it could be a result of ionized iron dust from nearby mines, or the ionization of air and dust by alpha particles during radon decay.

The first instance of this rumor happened when, in 1954, UFO researcher Donald Keyhoe told the newspapers that the US Air Force reported that two satellites orbiting Earth were detected. This was, however, considered tongue-in-cheek as Keyhoe was promoting a UFO book he wrote at that time. In 1960,
TIME reported that the US Navy detected a dark object which later turned out to be just “…the remains of an Air Force Discoverer VIII satellite that had gone astray.”

In 1963, astronaut Gordon Cooper supposedly reported a UFO sighting while in orbit on Mercury 9 which was also confirmed by a tracking station, though there is no evidence of it. Scottish author Duncan Lunan in 1973, suggested that the long-delayed radio echoes heard by amateur radio operator Jorgen Hals of Norway and others in the 1920s could possibly originate from a 13,000-year-old alien space probe. Regarding the 1998 photo, NASA stated that it was most likely space debris, maybe a thermal blanket lost in previous missions.

On July 15, 1989, a woman found the photo in a parking space where a white Toyota cargo van was parked when she arrived at the store in Port St. Joe, Florida, driven by a man with a mustache in his late 30s. After the photo was shown on television, one woman came forward saying she was “convinced” the young woman is Tara Calico, her daughter, who disappeared on September 20, 1988. Another woman also came forward saying that she was “almost certain” it was her son Michael Henley. The Polaroid officials who examined the photograph said that it was taken after May 1989 since the film used was not available until then.

It was believed to be unlikely that the boy in the photo was Henley as his remains were discovered in the Zuni Mountains seven miles off his family’s campsite in June 1990. The identity of the woman was also inconclusive. While Tara Calico’s mother and Scotland Yard were convinced it was Tara Calico, analyses by Los Alamos National Laboratory and the FBI were inconclusive. A six-person task force was assigned to re-investigate Calico’s disappearance in October 2013, but no arrests have been made to date.

A photograph captures a single moment by freezing whatever is happening at that instant. Sometimes a photograph captures things that we cannot explain. They could be anomalies or things that didn’t necessarily exist at the time the photograph was taken. They could be pictures of people whom no one could identify and their presence in those photographs is inexplicable. They could also be strange occurrences that no rational person could find an explanation for. So, here are some of those unexplained photographs and the stories, or rather mysteries, behind them...

Operator ‘deeply’ sorry for inconvenience to passengers after the 9.44.40am Tsukuba Express pulled away at 9.44.20am.

It was an admission that would no doubt raise a sardonic smile among many commuters, and perhaps have them dreaming of relocating to Japan .

The operator of a private railway firm that serves the Tokyo suburbs has issued an apology after one of its trains departed 20 seconds ahead of schedule.

Passengers boarding Tuesday’s 9.44.40am Tsukuba Express from Minami Nagareyama station, just north of Tokyo, were unaware anything was amiss when the train, which had arrived on time, pulled away from the platform at 9.44.20am.

The train’s operator, though, believed the foul-up was serious enough to warrant an apology. “We deeply apologise for the severe inconvenience imposed upon our customers,” the Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company said in a statement.
The train’s conductor had not properly checked the train’s timetable, the firm said, adding that the crew had been instructed to strictly follow procedure to prevent a recurrence.

Passengers who might have made the train had it left on time in fact suffered little inconvenience: the next one arrived just four minutes later.

While delays – even of just a minute – prompt profuse apologies by Japanese train operators, Metropolitan Intercity’s mea culpa drew inevitable, and unfavourable , comparisons with rail services in other countries.

The Tsukuba Express carries 130 million passengers a year between Akihabara in Tokyo and Tsukuba in Ibaraki prefecture, a journey of about 45 minutes.
Some on social media said early departures were not uncommon in Japan. While others lauded Japan’s super-efficient rail service as one of the country’s greatest attributes, the quest for punctuality can go tragically wrong.

In 2005, more than 100 people died and hundreds more were injured when a packed commuter train left the tracks and crashed into an apartment complex in western Japan.

The derailment occurred after the driver used excessive speed in an attempt to make up for a 90-second delay.
Rail unions blamed the crash on a culture of fear in which employees were subjected to humiliating punishments for committing minor errors such as arriving seconds late or slightly overrunning platforms.

CAF knocks Gabonese Referee over Soft Penalty against Nigeria

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has criticized Gabonese Referee Eric Arnaud Castane for his handling of the Algeria vs Nigeria 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

In its match report after Friday’s 1-1 draw, CAF described some of the decisions by the 41-year-old particularly the penalty against Nigeria and Yacine Brahimi headbutting Super Eagles defender, Shehu Abdullahi.

Part of the report Reads:

Yacine Brahimi won and converted a harshly-awarded late penalty to rescue a 1-1 draw for Algeria against already-qualified Nigeria Friday in a World Cup Africa zone Group B dead-rubber.

The Gabonese referee ruled that Abdullahi Shehu fouled Brahimi as he moved into the box in Constantine, but big-screen replays suggested otherwise.

Porto midfielder Brahimi was lucky to still be on the field after escaping with a yellow card for head-butting Shehu 12 minutes from time.

Crime › Colombian Police Seize 12 Tons Of Cocaine In Record Haul by Quelme(op): 5:07am On Nov 09, 2017
Colombian police have seized the largest amount of cocaine ever confiscated in a single operation in the South American country. President Santos said the 12 tons of cocaine would have fetched $360 million in the US.

Almost 400 anti-drug police took part on Wednesday in air and land raids on four estates in the Uraba region in the northeastern department of Antioquia, police chief Jorge Nieto said, adding that the operation was preceded by a year of investigations.
"Never before, since we began more than 40 years ago to fight against drug trafficking, have we made a seizure of this magnitude," Juan Manuel Santos told reporters.
Police detained four people and were searching for Dairo Usuga alias Otoniel, head of the Gulf Clan criminal ring, believed to have stored the illegal drugs, which were discovered in underground caches.

THE GULF CLAN

Police said the cocaine belonged to Colombia's most-wanted man, Dario Antonio Usuga, aka "Otoniel," head of the country's largest drug-trafficking gang, the Clan del Golfo, or Gulf Clan, which accounts for 70 percent of Colombia's cocaine production.

The group emerged from the remnants of right-wing paramilitary groups that demobilized in 2006.

The illegal armed group that has sought to take over drug trafficking operations in zones previously occupied by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.

Santos has said there will be no let-up in his government's campaign against the Gulf Clan, after the capture of 28 members of the gang in an operation by security forces, code-named "Odyssey," in Antioquia in September.

The operation raised to 362 tons the amount of cocaine seized in Colombia so far this year, surpassing 317 tons in 2016.
The UN and the White House said coca and cocaine production surged last year in Colombia.

Crime › Re: Grisly Pics Show Mass Whale Slaughter In Remote Faroe Islands Hunts by Quelme(op): 11:34pm On Nov 08, 2017
The Faroe Islands government said around 1,700 pilot whales and white-sided dolphins have been caught this year.

It condemned Sea Shepherd saying it 'will go to any lengths to paint a negative picture of the Faroese' as 'sadistic psychopaths', with the aim of inciting anger and outrage against the island.

'They have chosen an easy target, as whale drives in the Faroe Islands take place in the open for anyone to watch and document.'
The government noted that whale meat and blubber of pilot whales have long been a valued part of the Faroes' national diet and is hunting sustainable.

'Catches are shared largely without the exchange of money among the participants in a whale drive and residents of the local district where they are landed,' it said.
'Each whale provides the communities with several hundred kilos of meat and blubber – meat that otherwise had to be imported from abroad.'

'As the pilot whales were driven to the shoreline by the small boats the intensity of the thrashing bodies grew.
'Hooks were sunk into the blowholes and the whales were dragged onto the shore in a sadistic game of "Tug of War".
'We witnessed whales seemingly bashing their heads against the stones in a frenzy.'
The pictures were taken in the summer when the hunting takes place but have only emerged now.
Another unnamed eyewitness also described a hunt at the village of Bour where 29 long-finned pilot whales were reportedly killed.
'We recorded children attempting to remove the teeth of several whales with nothing more than a pocket knife as well as removing slices of what appeared to be a tumour on one whale

The mass slaughter of whales and dolphins on the Faroe Islands is laid bare by these grisly photographs.
The images were taken by volunteers from conservation group Sea Shepherd Global posing as tourists on the islands.
According to the group, its volunteers documented nine separate hunts, which date back to the late 16th century and involve residents to drive herds of pilot whales into shallow waters.
They are then killed using a 'spinal lance' that is inserted through the animal's neck to break its spinal cord.
