Source: http://punchng.com/i-didnt-mingle-with-criminals-as-gov-amaechi/ FORMER Rivers State governor and Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has said that he was able to fight against cultists, kidnappers and others masquerading as militants because he never hobnobbed with criminals. Amaechi also recalled that he did not appoint any of the criminals into political office or crown them king, adding that his administration then returned peace to the state and stopped the insecurity that reigned before the advent of his government. The minister, who spoke on Monday in an online broadcast to the people of Rivers, maintained that the people of the state enjoyed peace until the months leading to the 2015 general election. He said, “Let no one deceive you with a twisted narrative on the origins, causes and solutions to the bloodbath in Rivers State. Most of you can attest to how I battled and tackled insecurity when I served as your governor. “I led the fight against the cultists, gangs, thugs and criminals masquerading as militants; they were driven out from hiding, many fled the state. I was able to do that because I was never in bed with the criminals; I never appointed any into political office or crowned any king. “The administration I led was able to return the State to serenity from the horrible state of insecurity and violence we met when we took over. Rivers people enjoyed peace until the months leading up to the 2015 general elections when these ‘new’ men of power in the state introduced unprecedented violence and killings in the state.” Amaechi explained that the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, had launched an attack on him when he asked him to perform or resign, adding that the uninspiring response of the state government to the recent killings in Omokun was enough for the people of the state to speak up against the insecurity in the state. He pointed out that the situation in the once peaceful state had made it (Rivers) to be “derisively” described as Rivers of Blood. “In the early hours of New Year’s Day, defenceless residents of Omoku were gruesomely attacked and murdered on their way home from the New Year crossover night church service. 23 men, women and children were murdered in the attack. In the first couple of days of this New Year, people have also been murdered in Andoni and Egbeda. “Some 48 hours after the Omoku massacre, the response of the governor and Government of Rivers State whose primary responsibility is to protect you from these kinds of attacks was gabble blather about a N200 million bounty and to launch another round of attacks on me because I politely advised them to protect Rivers people or resign from office. |

Following the outrage that
trailed President Muhammadu
Buhari’s recent appointment
of dead people into the
boards of Federal
Government’s agencies, the
President has ordered the
Secretary to the Government
of the Federation, Mr. Boss
Mustapha, to review the entire
list.
The review, it was learnt, is
meant to ascertain all
nominees that need
replacement on the list
released last Friday.
READ ALSO: Outrage over six
dead appointees on Buhari’s
board list
It was further learnt that apart
from those who were
identified as having died
before the announcement of
their appointments, at least
one person has also died
between when the list was
made public and now.
With the review, the
inauguration of the living
appointees by the relevant
ministers are expected to be
put on hold as they may not
get their appointment letters
until after the revised list must
have been approved.
In all, 209 chairmen and 1,258
board members were
announced.
The Senior Special Assistant to
the President on Media and
Publicity, Garba Shehu,
confirmed the President’s
directive for a review of the
entire list to our
correspondent on the
telephone on Thursday.
Shehu said those saddled with
the responsibility had gone far
in their assignment and would
soon present their report to
the President.
He said apart from the dead
persons, those who have left
the ruling All Progressives
Congress but were included in
the list would also be
removed.
He said, “Yes, I can confirm to
you that the process to replace
the dead ones has started. We
have listened to the concerns
raised.
“The entire list is being
scrutinised all over again. They
have gone very far and they
will be reporting to the
President very soon.
“Even after the list was
published, one nominee died.
They need to take a second
look at the entire list.
“There were also complaints
about some persons who had
left the party but made the list.
We are looking at those ones
too with a view to replacing
them.”
Some of the dead persons on
the list released included the
late Senator Francis Okpozo,
who died in December 2016.
He was named the chairman
of the board of the Nigerian
Press Council.
Another was Donald Ugbaja,
the late Deputy Inspector-
General of Police who died in
November but was listed as
one of the board members of
the Consumer Protection
Council.

Also on the list was the late
founder of Fidei Polytechnic,
Rev. Christopher Utov, who
died in March but was listed as
a board member of the
Nigerian Institute of Social and
Economic Research.
Included on the list was the
late Alhaji Umar Dange, an APC
leader in Sokoto State, who
was appointed as a board
member of the Federal Medical
Centre, Ebute-Meta.
Similarly, Kabir Umar, a former
Emir of Katagum in Bauchi
State, who died on December
9, 2017 was on the board of
the Federal Medical Centre,
Azare, Bauchi.
Another appointee, Ahmed
Bunza, was said to have died
at the Usman Danfodio
University Teaching Hospital,
Sokoto, and was buried on
May 22, last year.
Shehu had on Saturday said
there was nothing
“scandalous or extraordinary”
in the inclusion of the names
of the dead persons in the list
which he said had been
prepared over two years ago.
He had said nobody could stop
some of those included on the
list from dying between when
the list was prepared and
when it was made public.
The presidential spokesman
had assured Nigerians that
dead nominees would be
replaced.
He explained, “This list is a
historical list. It dates back to
2015. The President asked all
the state chapters of the APC
to forward 50 names for
appointments to the SGF
through the national
headquarters of the party.
“The then SGF, Babachir Lawal,
presented the report in
October 2016, one year after
he was commissioned.
“The report was disputed by
some state governors who
said they were not carried
along or the list was not
representative enough.
“So, the President constituted
a new panel chaired by the
Vice-President. The panel has
some governors and some
leaders of the party as
members. They were asked to
go and review the list.
“The panel did its work and
turned in its report early in
2017. The President had his
health challenges during that
period.
“Now that he is back and
strong, he asked the SGF to go
and release the list. So, the
new SGF did what he was
asked to do. There is nothing
scandalous or extraordinary
about what has happened.
“If a list was compiled like
over two years ago, obviously
some people would have died.
Nobody can stop that from
happening.
“Whoever is dead will be
replaced. There is nothing
extraordinary about it.”
Mustapha had in a statement
indicated that the
appointments took immediate
effect.

One of the five Badoo cult suspects paraded on Thursday at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja, 18-year-old Chibuzor Igwe, says he was tricked into joining Badoo cult. Igwe explained that he had approached one of the alleged leaders of the cult, Obamoyegun Omotayo, for a driving job, but was lured into the gang. READ ALSO: I will appear before police, but not CP Edgal –Suspected Badoo kingpin Chibuzor said, “I am a Badoo member. Around November, I told Obamoyegun (Omotayo) that I wanted to be his driver because I saw him with new cars. He told me that it would take some time before he would give me the job. During that time, he called me….” But what could have been a full-blown revelation from the teenager, who has injuries on his hands, was aborted by the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who stopped the interview and ordered that Chibuzor and the other suspects be taken away. Imohimi claimed that the suspects’ confession would jeopardise police investigations and efforts to arrest other members of the gang. Earlier, while briefing journalists on the arrests, the CP identified other Badoo suspects as Chibuzor’s elder brother, Uche Igwe; a welder, Samuel Akaeze, aka Samito; his wife, Gift Akaeze; and a herbalist, Fatai Adebayo, aka Adaripon. According to Imohimi, Gift provides information on the targets whom the assailants consequently attack. He said Chibuzor was apprehended while he wanted to escape from Alabo Street, Abule Osorun, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, where the gang smashed the heads of a couple and their five-month-old baby on December 30, 2017. Imohimi explained that Chibuzor, Samuel and Omotayo carried out the attack, adding that by the time a joint team of policemen and a vigilance group responded to a distress call, Samuel and Omotayo had fled. He said, “The gang of three murderers comprises Chibuzor Igwe, Samuel Akaeze, aka Samito and Obamoyegun Omotayo. Omotayo usually sprays a powdery substance into victims’ dwelling places that would make them to fall into deep sleep before they end their lives by smashing their skulls with grinding stones. TRENDING: North Korea accidentally hits one of its own cities with missile –Report “Omotayo, having satisfied that the victims are dead, will use white handkerchiefs to mop their blood for ritual purposes. However, luck ran out on them when one of the victims raised the alarm which attracted the local vigilance group. The group in turn alerted the police in that area and the compound was cordoned off, leading to the arrest of Chibuzor Igwe at the scene. “Also arrested is one Gift Akaeze, wife of Samuel, who provides information about where to strike for the group.” Imohimi said Chibuzor confessed to being a member of the ritual gang and gave the police information that led to the arrest of Samuel and Omotayo. He said a bloodstained grinding stone, suspected to have been used by the suspects, had been taken to a laboratory for forensic analysis. “Recall that during my last press briefing on December 11, 2017, I mentioned that a blue Nokia Asha phone belonging to the murdered pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ikorodu, Victor Kanayo, who was killed on November 25, 2017, was recovered from Uche Igwe. He confessed that his younger brother, Chibuzor Igwe, gave him the phone. “The said Chibuzor was the one arrested on Alajo Street, where he and his gang members murdered Shakiru Yekini and inflicted grievous bodily harm on his wife and six-month-old baby,” he added. The CP stated further that Chibuzor told the police that Omotayo usually took them to Adebayo, the herbalist, in Imosan-Ijebu, Ogun State, where he (Adebayo) administered oaths on them in his shrine before they went on operations. He said the herbalist also fortified them with charms and blessed the grinding stones with which they smashed people’s skulls. Imohimi said the command would not relent until all members of the gang were rounded up, adding that the suspected kingpin, Alhaji Abayomi Alaka, remained wanted by the police. He said, “I am aware that some sections of the press have opened communication with him. In his own interest, he should report at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, to answer the charges against him. He will have his day in court. “I don’t place bounties on criminals. I have asked him to report. He has been declared wanted. If he believes he is innocent, wherever he is, he should report to the police. They will bring him to the right place to answer the charges against him. The police in Nigeria are one.” Alaka, in a telephone interview with PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, had said he was ready to submit himself to the police for investigation. He, however, insisted that he would not go to the Lagos State Police Command, alleging that investigations under Imohimi’s supervision would be compromised. The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Edgal Imohimi, on Thursday, disclosed how three arrested Badoo suspects hypnotised and smashed their victims’ head while asleep. Imohimi said this while presenting the suspects to newsmen in Lagos. He gave their names as Chibuzo Igwe; Samuel Akaeze a.k.a Samito Gift Akaeze; Omotayo Abamoyegun and Fatai Adebayo, a herbalist who fortified the cultists before going on operations. According to him, on Dec. 30, 2017 at about 2:30 a.m. the peace of Lagos was disturbed at Alajo Close, Ibese, a suburb of Ikorodu, when three suspects invaded one late Shakiru Yekini’s compound where he was killed alongside his wife and his six-month-old baby injured. “Abamoyegun usually sprays powder into the abode of their victims which makes them fall into deep sleep after which other members of the gang smash their head with grinding stone. “Having certified that they are dead, the suspects use white handkerchiefs to scrub their victims’ blood for ritual purposes. “Luck, however, ran out of them when one of the victims raised alarm and the vigilante men on duty alerted policemen who quickly cordoned off the area. “Chibuzor Igwe was arrested at the scene and he made startling revelation which led to the arrest of Abamoyegun and Akaeze. “Please note that a grinding stone used to smash the victims’ head, smeared with blood was recovered at the murder scene and taken to the lab for forensic analysis to back up our evidence in court. “One Gift Akaeze, wife to one of the suspects, Samuel, was arrested for allegedly supplying information to the suspects on where to strike. “Abamoyegun also usually takes the suspects to one Fatai Adebayo, a herbalist, who specialises in fortifying the suspects and blessing their stone before an operation. “The herbalist has been arrested and his shrine in Ijebu Imosan had been destroyed in an operation which I led,’’ he said. The commissioner said that the war against the suspected killers would continue and that the police would not relent until all the killers were brought to justice. He furthered declared wanted one Alaka Abayomi Kamal following a warrant of arrest issued by a magistrate court in Lagos. Presented alongside the suspected killers were car snatchers and drug peddlers arrested at Sunday Market, Ogba. Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs, Feyisetan Fayose, has said that those who oppose her husband’s decisions are “obstructing the work of God,” warning that the “consequences will be too much for them.” Mrs. Fayose said God had revealed to her a long time ago that her husband was going for a position of authority higher than the governorship he currently holds. According to a statement issued by her Special Assistant (Media), Gbenga Ariyibi, Mrs. Fayose said this in Ado Ekiti during the New Year’s thanksgiving service. She said though God did not reveal to her the time and the position God has scheduled for her husband, the word of God would manifest at all costs. “I want to plead with everyone, don’t hunt for the downfall of this government, don’t even try it. “God is looking at you, and God is watching. Don’t hunt for the failure of continuity. Why? Because our God is God of continuity, our leader is carrying the unusual grace; if you don’t want to be disgraced, don’t hunt for the downfall of this government, don’t hunt for the failure of continuity, I have said my own. “It is not him, it’s God through him. Look beyond him, and let’s continue to work together in unity. “God told me expressly, years back, that he needed Ayo Fayose in Nigeria. “What brought about this was that, I was praying that the trouble of this man was too much, that I wanted God to take politics away from him, to separate him from politics, that I have had too much. “But God said, ‘Leave him to me, he is in the hollow of my palm, l need him in Nigeria, it is not only Ekiti. He is just passing through Ekiti State.” Mrs. Fayose, who prayed fervently for the peace, progress and continuity agenda of the her husband’s administration, said no amount of “gang up or political manipulation” would alter or shake her husband from the good plan God has in stock for him and the people of the state. Those at the thanksgiving service included the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola; his wife, Janet; the Chief of Staff, Dipo Anisulowo; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Modupe Alade; Head of Service, Dr. Gbenga Faseluka, notable traditional rulers, political office holders, market women and top government officials. source: http://punchng.com/dont-oppose-my-husband-fayoses-wife-warns-politicians/ |

The Presidency on Saturday told Nigerians to expect major facelift in power, rail and roads in 2018 based on the present administration’s investment in infrastructure. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja. Adesina listed some of the achievements of the present administration in the outgoing year and concluded that President Muhammadu Buhari has done well. “President Buhari’s investment in infrastructure will see major facelifts across the country in power, rail and roads, which have been scheduled to come on stream in 2018,” Adesina said. The Presidential spokesman said it was appropriate to, at the twilight of 2017 and at the threshold of a New Year, recount some key achievements of the administration in the outgoing year. He said despite global economic challenges and initial outlook of slow, or unlikely, recovery, the Nigerian economy trumped predictions and witnessed some remarkable changes in 2017. He listed the changes to include Nigeria’s exit from what he called the worst recession in decades and a gradual stabilisation of the naira. “In our review of the economy based on facts and figures from the National Bureau of Statistics, we are pleased to note that the economy has been on the path of steady growth since the second quarter, after contracting for five consecutive quarters. “President Muhammadu Buhari is hopeful that the exit from recession, stabilisation of the naira and robust harvest in the agricultural sector will continue to impact on the livelihood of Nigerians,” he said. Adesina noted that multilateral institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have already projected higher growth for the economy in 2018. He said the government was hopeful that the gains of 2017 in agriculture would be further improved. He added, “The agricultural sector posted consistent growth levels throughout the recession, leading other sectors into positive growth rates. “Accordingly, Nigeria saw bumper food harvests, especially in rice, whose local production continues to rise significantly with states like Ebonyi, Kebbi and Kano leading the pack, while Ogun joined the loop by the end of 2017. “The price of a 50kg bag of rice – a staple in our country – has fallen by about 30 per cent since the beginning of 2017, as local production continues to rise. The price will keep falling, as production remains consistent and rises. “The Food and Agriculture Organisation said the number of Nigerians facing food insecurity in the northeast dropped by half this year.” Adesina said against all odds, 2017 has turned out the year of Nigeria’s agriculture revolution, embodied by the successes of the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative and the Anchor Borrowers Programme. He said more than a dozen moribund fertilizer blending plants were revived under the PFI in 2017. He added that inflation rate fell for 10 consecutive months in 2017, February to November, with the Central Bank of Nigeria projecting that it is likely going to drop to single digit by 2018. The presidential spokesman added, “The Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme rolled out across the states and currently 5.2 million primary school children in 28,249 schools in 19 states are being fed daily, while 200,000 unemployed graduates were enlisted into the N-power Job Scheme.Source: http://punchng.com/expect-major-facelift-in-power-rail-roads-presidency-tells-nigerians/ |

A former Governor of the old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has blamed the current petrol crisis on activities of saboteurs in the oil industry. Musa said on telephone from Kaduna on Thursday that Nigerians were going through this hardship due to selfish interest of some people. He alleged that some petroleum marketers, in connivance with some government officials, hoarded petroleum products to create artificial scarcity for profiteering. Musa said that this was the reason petroleum products were not available at filling stations and the price hiked at the black market. He described the situation as unacceptable and urged the government to stop activities of “saboteurs” with a view to making the products available to all. “It is very unfortunate that Nigerians are going through this hardship to get fuel which should be available to all. “Without doubt, saboteurs are behind this problem. Some marketers, with the conspiracy of some government officials, hoard or divert petroleum products for their selfish interests. “The government should get to the root of this. We cannot continue to have this problem, especially around Yuletide period. “Nigerians have suffered enough in the past few days. The government should find a lasting solution,” he said. Musa said that Nigeria would continue to have this problem so long as people put personal interests above the public interest. He said privatisation of some of the critical sectors of the economy had impoverished the masses while producing super-rich few. The former governor said for the people to actually feel the impact of governance, the government should be more involved in the running of the economy. He said that he was sympathetic with Nigerians over the fuel crisis and urged them to play their part in ending corruption in the system. The National President, Rice
Farmers Association, Alhaji
Aminu Goronyo, has assured
Nigerians that the market
prices of locally produced rice
will soon crash.
Goronyo said in Abuja on
Wednesday that the price of a
50kg-bag of locally produced
rice would plummet from
N18,000 to between N6,500
and N7000 by April 2018.
He said that the price-
reduction plans would be
achieved under a joint
programme of RIFAN and the
Anchor Borrowers Programme
of the Central Bank of Nigeria,
which would be launched in
Abuja on Jan. 13, 2018.
Goronyo said that 12 million
rice farmers in the country
would benefit from the one-
year partnership, adding,
however, that 300,000 rice
farmers from 20 states would
be supported at the beginning
of the programme in January.
He said that under the new
initiative, the CBN had
modified the programme to
facilitate its direct relations
with RIFAN so as to ensure
timely disbursement and full
repayment of loans, unlike
what obtained in the past.
He said that the new initiative
would double the
achievements of the earlier
edition of ABP, which was
launched on Nov. 17, 2015 in
Kebbi, with a target to
produce additional 2.5 million
tonnes of paddy rice.
He said that in 2015, Nigerians
spent not less than N1bn daily
on rice consumption, adding
that while the spending had
reduced drastically, rice
consumption had increased
significantly because of the
increase in local production of
rice.
Goronyo said that the available
statistics indicated that the
rice consumption rate in the
country now had increased
from 7.9 million tonnes to over
8 million tonnes, while the
volume of rice production had
increased from 5.8 million
tonnes to 6.9 million tonnes
per annum.
He, however, noted that
several efforts had been put in
place to cut down the price of
rice, adding that some of the
efforts included collaborations
with Competitive African Rice
Initiative (CARI) and other
African countries to boost rice
production and exports in
Africa.
Goronyo stressed that rice
prices would further drop, as
there were currently bumper
harvests in rice farms across
the country, while RIFAN was
collaborating with rice millers
on the pricing of the
commodity.
Besides, the RIFAN president
said that RIFAN had signed a
Memorandum of
Understanding with the
Nigeria Customs Service on
how to contain rice smuggling
into the country through the
land borders.
Goronyo said that the efforts
being put in place and the
current economic situation in
the country had made it
somewhat difficult for people
to import rice into the country
and make profit.
“The landing cost of a 50kg.-
bag of imported rice is now
N19, 500; then, how much
should the 50 kg.-bag of rice
be sold?
“The smuggled rice that
comes into Nigeria is just five
per cent of what we consume,
and the rice comes in through
the informal sector,’’ he said.
The ABP, which was launched
by President Muhammadu
Buhari on Nov. 17, 2015, is
aimed at creating linkages
between companies involved
in rice processing. Source: http://punchng.com/cbn-rifan-to-crash-rice-prices/ |
The Department of Petroleum
Resources in Ogun State, on
Saturday, sealed six petrol
stations and arrested four
persons.
The DPR made the arrests for
fuel hoarding, under-
dispensing, sabotage,
obstruction of justice and
installation of commercial gas
cylinders without approval.
All the affected petrol stations
were found to have more than
enough of the commodity but
refused to sell it to the public.
Some buyers, who spoke with
the News Agency of Nigeria,
accused the station owners of
selling fuel at night above the
pump price of N145.
“They only sell at night and
they sell for N200 per litre,”
one of the buyers in Ota,
Ogun, who pleaded
anonymity, said.
A mild drama, however,
ensued at one of the filling
stations along Ilaro
expressway, as the attendants
and the manager fled upon
sighting the DPR officials and
men of the Nigeria
Security and Civil Defence
Corps.
The DPR Head of Operations,
Mr Kasali Akinade, led the
surveillance team to the
stations.
Akinade said that the exercise
became necessary after
receiving the information that
some filling stations were
hoarding, under-dispensing
and selling above the pump
price.
“We are aware that some
filling stations are either
hoarding or selling above the
pump price; as high as N180
or N200 per litre, which is
against the government price
policy of N145.
“When we see any filling
station, either hoarding or not
selling, what we do is to order
them to start selling at the
approved pump price,” he
said.
Kasali, who decried the
artificial scarcity created by the
filling stations, added that the
arrests made were due to the
uncooperative attitude of
those arrested.
“Normally in a situation like
this, we didn’t want to make
any arrest, but just to ask
them to sell, however, some of
them were not willing to
cooperate with us.
“When we asked them to start
selling, they put off the engine;
that is, the electric generator,
which is against government
policy.
‘‘This country is blessed with
petroleum and the good
people of Nigeria are not
supposed to be denied the
use of the resources.
Meanwhile, the Zonal Public
Relations Officer of the
NSCDC, Mr Kareem
Olarenwaju, explained that
those arrested were caught
hoarding fuel and selling
above pump price.
He said, “four were arrested
for their role in hoarding fuel
and some were also guilty of
breach of peace; one of them
obstructed us for a long time”.
Olarenwaju revealed that
those arrested would be made
to face the full wrath of the
law.
‘‘They may be made to pay
normal fine to the DPR,
otherwise, they will be
charged to court,” he said.
Other filling stations visited
that were hitherto not selling
fuel prior to the DPR’s arrival,
were forced to sell at the
official pump price. Source: http://punchng.com/dpr-shuts-six-stations-arrests-four-persons/ |

She is not really known for her prowess in acting but everybody knows Anita Joseph especially because of her superb figure, which could make many men drool. Her backside is massive and the actress knows it, little wonder she flaunts it at will, posting incredible photos that show off her figure. In a recent chat with Saturday Beats, the actress acknowledged that men would usually give her a second glance each time she passed them. She said, “When it comes to my body, it has not been easy with the advances I get from men because of my bum. It has not been easy at all. It makes me wonder if it is a problem having a big bum or a killer figure.” However, the bum reduction is not in the offing at all for Anita. She said, “It has never occurred to me to reduce my bum. No, why will I do that? Reducing my bum will be me mocking God for what He has blessed me with. I can’t even add weight because if I do, my bum would become massive. People pay to make their bum big, why would I reduce the natural one God gave me for free? Please leave my bum, it’s from God, undiluted.” The actress made it known that she was in a serious relationship but refused to reveal the identity of her man. She simply said, “I am in a relationship but my boyfriend is not in the entertainment industry, I would say that our meeting was a miraculous one.” Commenting on how the year treated her, Anita told Saturday Beats that 2017 was a financially rewarding year for her. “This year has been wonderful and I can’t complain but I know 2018 will be better and more promising. I see a greater year ahead. Yes, it has been financially rewarding and I thank God for that. I travelled out of the country for business and pleasure. I had worked too hard and I deserved the rest,” she said. Source:http://punchng.com/i-get-plenty-advances-from-men-because-of-my-bum-anita-joseph/ |
PDP is dead in Lagos |
This year has been a bittersweet one for Davido. Apart from releasing monstrous hits and bagging international awards, he also lost three of his close friends. He was even accused, allegedly, of knowing about the death of one of them. In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the singer acknowledged that it had been a very challenging year for him but described himself as a warrior. “Everybody knows what had happened to me this year, especially with the death of my friends. But I just had to overcome it and prevail. It is an amazing feeling when you are able to prevail. “I am happy and I thank God for the great things He has done for me this year. I thank everybody that has been supporting me. My tour was great, we went to 60 cities around the world and I am going to round it off in Lagos. It would be an amazing show and people should expect madness. It is God I guess,” the singer said. When asked about the purported battle of supremacy with his colleague, Wizkid, the singer was evasive and didn’t want to talk about it. Recall Davido had thrown innuendo at the recently held Future Awards where he had said he wasn’t fighting with ‘anybody’. Expectedly, so many people had believed he was referring to Wizkid. Responding to Saturday Beats’ question, Davido said, “There is nothing between Wizkid and me; I am on my own. There is nothing. No fewer than 1,500 members
of the Peoples Democratic
Party in Oshodi-Isolo Local
Government Area of Lagos
State on Friday defected to the
All Progressives Congress,
according to the News Agency
of Nigeria.
The report said that the
defectors were received by Mr.
Olusola Sokunle, representing
Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I at
the Lagos State House of
Assembly, and the APC
Chairman in the local
government area, Alhaji
Olamide Kasali.
Sokunle, who was elected into
the House of Assembly on the
platform of the PDP, had in
February, along with six other
lawmakers, defected to the
ruling party on the floor of the
House.
The lawmakers had cited the
performance of the state
governor, Akinwunmi
Ambode, and the leadership
style of the Speaker of the
House of Assembly, Mr.
Mudashiru Obasa, as reasons
for their defection.
The new defectors were led by
a PDP chieftain in the council,
Mr. Fola Mosaku, and four
councillorship candidates of
the party in the July 22 council
polls in the state.
Sokunle, while receiving them,
said, “The APC is a party to
belong to; (it’s a party) where
our political aspirations can be
met. So, endeavour to
frequently attend political
meetings in your wards.
“Let us thank Governor
Ambode for giving Oshodi a
facelift. More projects are still
on the way. The door is still
open for other interested PDP
members to join us.”
He said that the APC-led
government had performed
beyond expectations, with
various development projects
executed in different parts of
the state.
Also welcoming the defectors,
Kasali assured them that the
APC would ensure their
interests were protected.
The party chairman said that
the party would soon begin its
membership registration in
the wards. He urged all new
and old members to go to
their various wards for
registration upon the
commencement of the
exercise.
Speaking on behalf of the
defectors, Mosaku said, “We
dumped the PDP for the APC
because of the performance of
Sokunle.
“We are also motivated by the
performance of the APC-led
government in Lagos; we will
not do a U-turn and return to
the PDP.” Source: http://punchng.com/1500-pdp-members-defect-to-apc-in-lagos/ |
