On the 7th of October 2023, Hamas murdered 1400 Israeli civilians and took 250 as hostages.

Like I said earlier, Israel has not had any military presence or civilian settlement in Gaza since 2005, when the then Prime minister, the late Ariel Sharon forced Jewish settlers out of Gaza and withdrew the IDF from Gaza, although they kept an eye on the border.

After Israel handed Gaza over to the Palestinians in 2005, there was a bloody civil war between Hamas and Fatah (Fatah is the armed wing of the Palestinian Liberation Organization) which was won by Hamas in 2007.

Ever since 2007, Hamas has been sporadically firing rockets into southern Israel.

The blockade was necessary to ensure that Hamas stopped having access to chemicals for the manufacture of rockets and improvised explosive devices (IED).

This particular attack was funded and orchestrated by Iran for the purpose of frustrating a historical peace treaty which Israel was about to sign with Saudi Arabia.
