The acting Inspector General of Police Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar said the eight Christians arrested attempting to bomb their church in Miya Barkatai, Toro Local Government Area in Bauchi State, are being interrogated by the police. Police and witnesses said the suspects were arrested with sophisticated weapons. They came from neighbouring villages near Miya Barkatai. The suspected bombers are Lamba Goma, Filibus Danasa, Joshua Ali, Danjuma Sabo, Joseph Audu, Simon Gabriel, Bulus Haruna, Yohanna Ishaya and Daniel Ayuba. The IG said the suspected bombers were being “interrogated in Abuja and facts were obtained from them. We will take appropriate actions and charge them to court after investigations.” The bombers were arrested on February 26, when they came with explosive devices and tried to set them off in the COCIN Church but they were overpowered by locals who handed them to security men. dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=156803:police-hq-interrogates-bauchi-church-bombers&catid=1:news&Itemid=2 |
The Military authorities yesterday said the church member killed by fellow worshippers in Jos a week ago was the same person thought to have facilitated entrance for a suicide bomber into the COCIN church premises. Adams Joseph Ashaba was lynched allegedly because he was seen alighting from the suicide bomber’s car shortly before the blast penultimate Sunday, but it later emerged that he was member of the attacked Church of Christ in Nigeria. After the deadly bombing, church leaders alleged that a military man was noticed assisting the car bomber to gain entrance into the church. But the Military authorities yesterday said there was no solider close to the church as alleged, and that the late Ashaba was the person attacked by the worshippers in the belief that he aided the bombing. “During investigation, it was discovered that the alleged suicide bomber who was lynched to death by worshippers and in military uniform was same Adams Joseph Ashaba,” Director of Information of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Kabir Aliyu, said at the briefing in Abuja by the Joint Security Information Managers Committee. Reading from a prepared text, Aliyu said, “The Defence Headquarters wishes to clarify that contrary to the earlier report that a soldier was lynched by aggrieved members of the church for allowing the bomber to gain access into the church premises, no soldier was anywhere close to the church before the explosion. “Investigation revealed that on February 27, one Mr. Julius came to the Special Task Force (STF) headquarters to explain of his missing brother, one Mr. Adams Joseph Ashaba. “He claimed that the said person was at the COCIN Church headquarters on Sunday, February 26, to worship when the explosion rocked the area. “He later confirmed that he was informed that his brother’s dead body was picked in a bush by men of the civil defence corps and deposited at the Jos University Teaching Hospital mortuary. “He then went to the JUTH where he identified the corpse as his brother, Mr. Ashaba, and was directed by the hospital staff to go to STF for clearance. “During investigation, it was discovered that the alleged suicide bomber who was lynched to death by worshippers and in military uniform was same Adams Joseph Ashaba. “With this development, Reverend John D. Harung and two other clergy men from the COCIN headquarters were invited to the headquarters of the STF to ascertain that he was a member of their church and not a soldier as alleged. “The hasty allegation levelled against the military in the unfortunate incident is a calculated attempt to frustrate the operations of the JTF by the same elements who have been unduly calling for the withdrawal of the STF in Plateau state.” In their account of the bombing in Jos, worshippers said they saw a Golf car with two men arriving at the gate of the church on February 26 and made attempt to enter the premises. The church security, made up of Boys Brigade volunteers, asked the men to go to the parking lot outside the premises of the church. But a man in military uniform, who was believed to have alighted from the car, intervened, asking the security guards to allow the driver into the premises. Witnesses said as soon as the car passed the gate, it exploded, killing the driver, while the other person at the front passenger’s seat attempted to escape but was seized and lynched by a mob. Worshippers also claimed that the solider seen at the scene was attacked and wounded. Hours after the attack, a purported spokesman for Boko Haram told journalists in Maiduguri by telephone that the sect was behind the bombing. But on the same in nearby Miya Barkatai in Bauchi State, a bomb attack on a COCIN church by eight Christian men was foiled. The eight men were arrested, detained in Bauchi and later moved to Abuja by the police. From UBONG UKPONG, Abuja The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) yesterday identified Mr. Adams Joseph Ashaba, as the Boko Haram suicide bomber, who allegedly masterminded the bombing of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) in Jos, the Plateau State capital on February 26, disclosing that he was actually a member of the church. The bomber had allegedly attacked COCIN that Sunday morning during service, where he was killed after killing a baby, a worshipper, his accomplice and injuring 38 other persons, including the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hiljah Abraham and former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ezekiel Gomos. Addressing Defence correspondents in Abuja, the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Kabir Aliyu, on behalf of the Joint Security Information Managers Committee, said that the identification of the mastermind would now end the allegation that the man in military uniform, who was lynched by some angry church members for allowing the bomber into the premises of the church to explode the bomb, was a soldier. “The DHQ wishes to clarify that contrary to the earlier reports that a soldier was lynched by aggrieved members of the church for allowing the bomber to gain access into the church premises, no soldier was anywhere close to the church before the explosion. Investigations revealed that on February 27, one Mr Julius came to the Special Task Force (STF) HQ to complain of his missing brother, one Mr Adams Joseph Ashaba. He claimed that the said person was at the COCIN Church Headquarters on Sunday, 26 February, 2012 to worship when the explosion rocked the area. He later confirmed that he was informed that his brother’s body was picked in a bush by men of Civil Defence corps and deposited at JUTH mortuary. He then went to JUTH where he identified the corpse as his brother, Mr Adams Joseph Ashaba and was directed by hospital staff to STF HQ for clearance. “During interrogation, it was discovered that the alleged suicide bomber who was lynched by the worshippers and in military uniform was the same Adams Joseph Ashaba. With this development, Reverend John D Harung and two other clergymen from the COCIN Headquarters were invited to HQ STF to ascertain that he was a member of their church and not a soldier as alleged”, Commodore Aliyu stated. He said that the Defence Headquarters viewed the hasty allegation leveled against the military in the unfortunate incident as a calculated attempt to frustrate the operations of the STF by the same elements who have been unduly calling for the withdrawal of STF from Plateau State. |
How possible is it for someone to shoot himself in the chest with AK47? How possible is it for someone fired in the chest with AK at that close range to suvived and fought medics only to die later? I smell shit in this saga. Possible senario is that he fired at the Inspector with the AK and Inspector fired back with his pistol. |

Christian Lady Killer
|
This could pass for one of the wonders of the world. It is a strange but true life story of a 22-year lady, Chinyere Alegu, who dragged her cousin’s daughter, Chioma Edukwu, 5, to a nearby bush, inserted her fingers in her mouth and pulled out her tongue . The victim died as a result of the wicked act. The incident took place at Ndi Duma Ekpaomaka village, in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. According to a source, the suspect allegedly committed the crime under the influence of some unseen forces. He narrated how the suspect behaved strangely, each time the spirit came upon her. But despite that, Chinyere was said to have taken her Christian life seriously and even became a ‘prayer warrior.’ Crimewatch was also told that the suspect, who was described by many as a very quiet person, usually saw vision and received revelations ‘anytime she was in spirit’. One day, she told her relatives how she dreamt and the spirit directed her to pull out an object from an elderly woman’s mouth. However, when she woke up from sleep, she traveled to her cousin’s village, Ishiekke Igbubuikwo and told him she wanted to train his daughter, Chioma. Monday Edukwu was said to have granted her request and asked Chioma to go with her. Chinyere was said to have taken the little girl to her elder sister’s house at Ekpaomaka where they slept in the same room. At about 1.30a.m., Chinyere claimed she was directed to go and pray for an elderly woman and to pull out an object from her mouth but she decided to go along with the victim. But instead of going to the woman’s house as she claimed, she dragged the little girl to a bush, which was a kilometre away from her sister’s house, allegedly pushed her to the ground and started praying for her. As the prayer was going on, she allegedly inserted her fingers in the girl’s mouth and pulled out her tongue. And when the suspect came back to her senses, she realised that it was Chioma, and not the elderly woman from whose mout.hhe ‘removed the object’ . Realising the implication of what she did, she raised the alarm and beckoned on a hunter, that was passing by for assistance. Crimewatch gathered that the girl died before help could come her way. The news of the incident spread like wildfire and attracted the villagers to the scene. They reported the matter at Ikwo Police Station while policemen went to the bush where they arrested Chinyere and recovered a copy of Holy Bible. The suspect, who spoke to Crimewatch, said: “ I am a hair dresser by profession. I love to evangelise and attend churches and where they hold rallies and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. I was sleeping when the Holy Spirit instructed me to go and pull out an object from an elderly woman’s mouth. I dreamt again before I took Chioma to the bush for prayer and while there, I used my hands to remove her tongue. “Having realised what I did, I raised the alarm and appealed to people to come and help me revive her. I used my right hand to remove her tongue. Sometimes, Holy Spirit visit me. I can pray in the house for three to four hours. I don’t know what to say but to beg my cousin to forgive me,” she lamented. The deceased’s father told the reporter that he was surprised that Chinyere killed his daughter. “She came to me to request that my daughter stayed with her. Two days later, information got to us that Chioma, my first daughter, was found dead in the bush. I saw my daughter’s tongue on the ground and was later told that Chinyere removed it. I want law to take its course, I want justice to be done. I don’t know what came over her. I know her to be a Christian, a prayer warrior,” the grieving father said. The Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeola Adeniji, said the suspect had been arrested and would be tried for murder. He said: “We didn’t see any object on her apart from the Bible.” http://sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2012/mar/01/national-03-01-2012-000.html |
If it happens in the North, it is Boko Haram. If it happens in the South, it is armed robbers. |
The eight suspects arrested in Miya Barkate, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State while attempting to blow up a COCIN church have been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Abuja. Their transfer came just as the Bauchi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) insisted that the attempt to blow up the church was prompted by a feud over the relocation of the local church council headquarters from Tilden Fulani, where it was burnt during the post election violence, to Miya Barkate. Speaking on phone yesterday, the Bauchi Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Hassan Mohammed, said the case had been transferred to Abuja on the orders of the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar. “The suspects have been taken to Abuja on the request of the IG,” Abubakar said. When they were arrested, one of the suspects was found to be in possession of an Improvised Explosive Device that was similar to the ones used in a recently foiled attack in Kafin Madaki, the Headquarters of Ganjuwa Local Government Area, the police added. Bauchi State CAN Chairman, Rev Lawi Pokti, who briefed newsmen on the issue yesterday, said “The true position is that some members of the church were aggrieved over the relocation of the church. Series of meetings were held between February 5th and 25th this year to resolve the issue so that the headquarters would be taken back to its former place in Tilden Fulani. “On February 26, seven members from the congregation of Tilden Fulani came to find out the outcome of the previous meetings but one of the suspects sat outside and the alleged device was seen near him and worshipers who were coming saw it and shouted ‘bomb, bomb.’ This attracted the attention of other worshipers, “he said. He said contrary to media report, no weapon was found in the possession of any of the arrested members. He said, “We are equally worried by the quick and conclusive remark of the commissioner of police who said that the seven people arrested came to the church to bomb it. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=155982:suspects-of-church-bombing-in-bauchi-moved-to-abuja&catid=1:news&Itemid=2 |

I want us to get some facts clearly. 1. Reports had it that the man jumped from the sueside car. 2.The man killed was wearing army uniform. 3. He was a church member. 4. None among the other members identified him. 5. He was killed by his church-goers NOT mob. 6. The governor & other big men in the state who are members of the church were not in the church at that moment though many were in town. 7. Members of the same COCIN were arrested by police trying to detonate bombs in their local church in Bauchi. |
Kobojunkie:Yes. But which of the BHs? A. Political BH B. Criminal BH C. Christian BH or D. Muslum BH |

ANOTHER ONE: Woman nabbed for attempting to set church ablaze in Bauchi A middle aged woman has been arrested and kept under the custody of Bauchi Police Command for allegedly attempting to set St. John’s Cathedral Church situated along Yandoka Road in the Bauchi State capital ablaze. The Catechist of the church, Mr. John Daniel, said he was at the residence of the priest of the church when the incident occurred. Daniel who identified the suspect as one Lydia Joseph, who was converted by the Charismatic Renewal Ministry of the church said: “She used to come and fellowship with us but she is not a member of the church.” http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=74369%3Awoman-nabbed-for-attempting-to-set-church-ablaze-in-bauchi&catid=137%3Anews&Itemid=19 |

A man suspected to have been in company of the suicide bomber who struck a church in Jos on Sunday was killed in error by fellow worshippers as he was actually a church member and not an attacker, relations and authorities said yesterday. Mr. Adams Joseph Ashaba was lynched to death on the suspicion that he came along with the bomber and tried to escape just after the explosion at the Church of Christ in Nigeria headquarters. But the Special Task Force and the deceased’s relations yesterday said the late Ashaba went to the church along with his wife and two children to worship on Sunday, and he was mistaken to be together with the suicide bomber. “(The) alleged suicide bomber killed by the angry youths at the premises of the church on 26 Feb 2012 was identified as Adams Joseph Ashaba, a member of the church and not a suicide bomber as alleged,” spokesman for STF, Cpt. Mdahelya Markus, said in a statement in Jos yesterday. A cousin of the late Ashaba, Mr. Julius Autahaa, who spoke to newsmen on behalf of the family, confirmed that the body of the person he saw at the mortuary, brought by security agents on Sunday, was that of Ashaba. He said Ashaba went to the church with his family and that when the blast occurred, the wife quickly took the children home and came back to look for her husband. But she could not find him and so contacted other members of his family, he added. Autahaa said yesterday morning, somebody called them to come to the Jos University Teaching Hospital to identify a corpse. “When we got there, we were able to identify that he was our cousin who works at Spring Bank, through his nails since his face was battered,” he said. “We wanted to claim the body but we were directed to the STF because we were told we could not claim the body as he was one of the suspects in yesterday’s bombing.” He described his late cousin as light complexioned and of average height, just like the corpse. Ashaba’s colleague at the Jos branch of Enterprise Bank, Nasiru Bala, who went to the mortuary to inspect the corpse, also said it was that of Ashaba. He said identified the corpse by the size of the head. The COCIN church said at a separate briefing yesterday that one of the people injured in the blast later died in hospital, bringing to four the number of its members killed by the bombing. The church said at least 50 people, including state Information commissioner Mr. Abraham Yiljab, church warden Mr. Alhamis Gukas and Appolos Dabwang, were injured and are now being treated in different hospitals in Jos. President of COCIN, Rev. Soja Bewarang, said the church could have suffered more casualties if key elders like Governor Jonah Jang, Gen. Joshua Dogonyaro, Senator John Shagaya and Chief Solomon Lar were around. The youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, in a statement, said “our conclusion is that this is a well-crafted strategy by fundamentalist Islamic leaders and politicians to destabilise Nigeria as the serial attacks on Christians is often punctuated by isolated cases of attacks on Muslims to create a false impression that the attacks are against all of us.” Member of the House of Representatives Suleiman Kwande, in a statement, condemned the attack and appealed for calm. The COCIN church premises became a centre of attraction yesterday as people queued up to be allowed entrance to see the damages created by the blast. The Jos killing of a church member on suspicion of him being a bomber came few weeks after a Kaduna State director was similarly shot when he was mistaken for a suicide bomber. Pastor Isuwa Kiforo, a director in the Kaduna state Information ministry, was driving in to the government house when he was shot because he failed to stop for security checks. Days later, Kiforo died of injuries he sustained in the shooting. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=155762:jos-church-member-killed-in-error-relations-say&catid=2:lead-stories&Itemid=8 |
