Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar yesterday enjoined Muslims all over the country to start looking for the new moon of Ramadan today.http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php/news/172215-ramadan-look-out-for-new-moon-today--sultan-tells-muslims- |
Azidogen2: mr animal, you are the WISEST BABOON ON EARTH!Please if you get nothing upstairs to say, spear us the space. Isn't it time to go to school? |
Da infamous: dont be a fool SE has enough lands and space stop playing old Nigerian politics propaganda, secondly if they retaliate the whole Hausa/Fulani in east will be floating in river Niger mark my word on that, they should know what is good for them...You must be a first class m0m0. I am very sure you don't even know the name of your state let alone locating on a map. Where is the land in SE? So after attacking the fulanis and playing the victim's card you are saying you will kill all the Hausa/fulanis is SE should the fulanis return fire. What do you expect to happen to your igbo kinsmen up north, who despite all odds prefer to stay there than return to their bush in SE? Bunch of coward. |
Those bigots calling for the annihilation of the fulanis, know not who the fulanis are. Apart from the hausas, no other tribe indigenous to Nigeria has presence in almost all west African countries as indigenous tribe except the fulanis. From Senegal to Mali, Niger, Nigeria and even Cameron which is in central Africa. The beroms, where do you find them? In few LGs of Plateau state. The igbos, where do you find them? In a small landlocked conner of SE Nigeria. So what do you think you can do to them? Even with the full support of the state government, the beroms have failed to chaise the fulanis away talkless of these defited runaway biafran soldiers. You just wokeup, killed a fulaniman and his cow and expect them not to return fire. And when they return fire, you are quick to go to the internet and other media saying fulanis attack so and so. Hypocrites. |
Ogbonaikenna: why the hatred for the igbos? Why the hatred for the fulanis? |
Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service Mrs. Rose Uzoma yesterday disclosed that those involved in the Boko Haram insurgency were Nigerians contrary to insinuations that foreigners were behind the activities of the sect. Speaking when she appeared before the House of Representatives joint Committee on Petroleum Upstream and Navy which is investigating the “unprecedented upsurge” in crude oil theft yesterday, Uzoma said no official confirmation has been made on the participation of foreigners in Boko Haram attacks. “I’m not aware as of today, if any case of foreigner entering this country through the sea ports that have been proved to have been engaged in Boko Haram activities. Let me use this opportunity please to say this fact, it has become common place that whenever there is an attack, it is usually assumed that the people involved are foreigners,” she said while responding to question from the committee on the roles service is playing to stop influx of foreigners who have been linked to Boko Haram. “The Nigerian Immigration Service is the only agency statutorily empowered to make public pronouncements on personality of persons. When people see dead bodies on the ground, they say they are illegal immigrants; any attack is attributed to illegal immigrants. I will like to inform you that we have come across on a very few cases of involvement of nationals of neighbouring countries in these incidents. “There was a case of a report of 68 Chadians that were arrested who were supposedly involved in the bomb attack in Kano and I have to send my officers to interview the supposed Chadians. It turned out that there was no single Chadian amongst them rather we came across one Malian and a Ghanaian. Those two ECOWAS nationals did not have anything whatsoever to do with the bomb attack,” she said http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php/news/171945-foreigners-not-involved-in-boko-haram-attacks-immigration-boss |

Birth control because our population is too much? I now understand the reason behind the introduction of Boko Haram- to reduce our population. Now that BH has failed to enter the south, law must be used to complement their job. GEJ/PDP the real boko haram- A. Azazi. |
The owner of an Italian firm, Gitto Construzioni General which donated church building to President Goodluck Jonathan’s community, Otuoke in Bayelsa State, Domenico Gitto, has died yesterday in Abuja. Daily Trust was told yesterday that Gitto was at the Ministry of Niger Delta to see the Minister of Niger Affairs Elder Goodsday Orubebe when he collapsed and died. But a reliable source from the ministry, who pleaded for anonymity, confirmed that the deceased was at the ministry but did not die there. “I was around when he came to the ministry. He did not die at the ministry but was taken to the hospital where he died,” the source said. Sources close to the Italian businessman, however, said he has been troubled for sometime owing to the huge debt piled up by his company in Nigerian banks. “The company has been having legal battles with some Nigerian banks over failed debts it owes,” a source said. Union Bank, said to be the largest creditor of Gitto, is allegedly owed N10 billion and is reported to have seized some of the company’s construction equipment. Gitto is also said to owe Diamond Bank N6 billion and the bank had reportedly sued Gitto. FCMB had also written to the Federal Ministry of Works asking that all money to be paid to Gitto by the ministry be paid to the bank, amounting to over N5billion. It is not clear if Gitto agreed to build the church edifice in order to seek for favours from Jonathan and probably be able to pay its debt.http://dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=170189:jonathans-church-donor-gitto-dies-in-abuja&catid=1:news&Itemid=2 |

Boko Haram crisis started like any other protest, but it seems to have come to stay. Why is it difficult for security agencies to crush the sect in few well- coordinated operations? It is not clear, but below are some of the reasons. 1. Extrajudicial killings: This is the primary source of the violence. At least, that is what the sect has continued to harp upon. Its leader, Mohammed Yusuf, was killed while in police custody, and many members of the group have been killed by security personnel in a manner that has kept human rights organisations raising alarm. 2. Access to lethal weapons: The sect seems to have unfettered access to deadly weapons, including bomb-making materials in spite of the closure of Nigeria’s borders and the alertness of security forces. 3. Detention of suspects without trial: This is another argument by Boko Haram. They claim hundreds of their members are detained in various police cells and prisons without trial. There was a speculation that government may have built a special detention camp for arrested members of the sect. Boko Haram has asked for detained members to be set free by government. 4. Poor understanding of the sect by government: Close to three years after it went violent, there is no evidence that security operatives clearly understand the philosophy, the leadership structure and operational schemes of the sect. This is in spite of the fact that many supposedly leaders of the group are in the custody of security agencies. 5. Unguarded utterances by government agents: Top security chiefs in the country have made utterances that experts in the intelligence community have tagged as unguarded. Statements like ‘Boko Haram’s days are numbered’ have angered the group and, in response, Boko Haram has attacked sensitive locations across the country. 6. Lack of commitment to dialogue: Many elements have called for dialogue between government and the sect, but there seems to be no commitment on the part of government and the sect to discuss. For one, the group remains faceless and has continued to make impossible demands, like asking for the North to be ruled by Shariah. 7. Suspected complicity of security agencies: Though this has not been proved, there is the suspicion that some security agents may be associated with the group. President Jonathan once mentioned that Boko Haram had infiltrated his government. 8. Lack of trust for JTF: The group has thrived, mainly because the communities where it operates don’t trust the Joint Task Force enough to give it intelligence information. There are reports that some who gave security agencies information were killed, hence residents are afraid, not only of Boko Haram, but also of giving information to security agents. 9. Poor intelligence: This is associated with No.8. Security agencies don’t seem to have the kind of intelligence needed to tackle the sect, hence it is perceived that Boko Haram is always five steps ahead of security operatives. 10. Rivalry among security agencies: In spite of the concerns raised about this, there is still evidence that security agencies are not coordinated. The SSS, police, NIA, Immigration, may not be collaborating properly. The fact that government disputed a warning by the American intelligence that there was an imminent bomb attack on Abuja showed that the agencies were not working in tandem with the world intelligence community. 11. Support of foreign fundamentalist groups: There is the suspicion that Boko Haram gets support from other groups like the Al-Qaeda. Though this has not been confirmed, it is a strong hypothesis in the security circle. 12. Political suspicion: Government suspects that Boko Haram is backed by powerful politicians from the North. That has not been proved, but as National Security Adviser Azazi made an allusion to it in Port Harcourt at the weekend, this aspect seems to be foremost on the minds of those in government. 13. Greed: Unfortunately, Boko Haram crisis has become an avenue for few Nigerians to access government money. Both federal and state governments are spending a lot of money on the purchase of security gadgets and maintaining security forces. Those who benefit from these may not want the crisis to end quickly. 14. Different ‘kinds’ of Boko Haram: There seems to be political, criminal and real Boko Haram sects at the moment. This means anyone can claim to be Boko Haram, hence it’s possible for government to be dealing with the wrong group in the search for a solution to the crisis. 15. Porous borders: Nigeria’s borders have remained porous, in spite of emergency rule in over a dozen local governments areas and the closure of borders. This is evident in the suspicion that foreign mercenaries and weapons that aid violent attacks are coming in and going out of the country without let or hindrance. 16. Distrust for the elite in the North: Unfortunately, the sect does not seem to have respect for the northern elite, making it difficult to actually call Boko Haram to order. Traditional rulers, government officials and elder statesmen may have found it difficult to approach them because Boko Haram does not trust them. 17. Religious suspicion in Nigeria: Until recently, there has been religious suspicion in the country. Some Christians thought Boko Haram was an attempt to Islamise the country, while some Muslims feel marginalised. However, recently, there seems to be a resolve that the crisis is not primarily religious. 18. Disunity in the country: Unfortunately, many Nigerians do not see the Boko Haram crisis as a national problem. Many see it as a problem of the ‘Muslim North’. The way government attempts to solve it is perceived to be half-hearted. If government dialogued with Niger Delta militants and granted them amnesty, why wouldn’t government dialogue with Boko Haram? 19. Poverty: The poverty level in the North is high. It has led to massive unemployment and apparently, provided a huge number of youths who, when indoctrinated, become potential members of Boko Haram. 20. Strong conviction: Surprisingly, many youths who are members of the sect have a strong conviction that they are doing a noble job. It may take a lot of efforts to re- educate them to enable them understand the damage the group has done to the Nigerian state. http://sundaytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10030:20-reasons-why-boko-haram-crisis-may-not-end-soon&catid=57:cover&Itemid=126 |
Worshippers at Fagge Juma’at mosque in Kano today discovered a high calibre explosive device within the mosque’s premises minutes to the commencement of Friday prayer. The explosive, which was packed in a bag was detected around 1:40pm, when the mosque’s imam was preparing to lead the Friday prayer, which was attended by thousands of Muslim faithful. Eyewitnesses said the prayer was however postponed to allow police bomb disposal unit to detonate the device. Daily Trust learnt that the bomb was detonated by security agents within the premises of the mosque, which is one of the biggest Muslims places of worship in the state, before prayers were resumed. Kano State Police Command Friday said four persons had been arrested in connection with the foiled attempt to bomb the mosque. In a statement issued by its spokesperson, DSP Rilwanu M. Dutse, the command gave the names of the suspects as Saminu Haruna, Salisu Adamu, Abdullahi Mohammed and Lawal Sa’idu, adding that they were apprehended by people in the area. “The Kano State Police Command has successfully evacuated and detonated a bomb planted at Fagge Juma’at Mosque. The bomb was concealed in a polythene bag. The committee of the mosque alerted the police and immediately deployed its anti bomb disposal unit and detonated the time bomb without causing casualty or damage,” said Dutse. He added, “The public are advised to ensure all hand bags, plastic bags, Ghana- must-go bags or polythene bags are kept at safe distance before allowing people coming for prayers have access into places of worship.” http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=165773:timed-bomb-found-in-kano-jumaat-mosque&catid=1:news&Itemid=2 |

Five persons are feared killed in Kujama market riot in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State. A staff of Chikun local government council, who craved for anonymity, said the incident happened as a result of an argument between a Christian boy and a Muslim woman. “The riot started as a result of an argument between a Christian boy and a Muslim woman in Kujama market; the boy bought eggs from the Muslim woman. We don’t know what happened, but they started arguing; and the argument later turned into violence between supporters of both parties. I can tell you now that five people were killed right in my presence while several others were injured”, he said. Kaduna police commissioner, Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying however that everything was under control. http://dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=165658:five-feared-killed-in-kujama-market-riot&catid=1:news&Itemid=2 |

Kogi State Police Command has paraded seven persons for allegedly posing as bishop, pastors and prophets during a revival programme in Lokoja, capital of Kogi State. Those paraded include Bishop Bamidele Abraham of Eagle Kingdom Church, Lokoja and Pastors Chucks Ingalis Kelvin, Chinedu Okosisi, Samson Prince, Osita Chuckwu, Samuel Ike and Nnenanaya Anthony Ikechukwu. They were said to have come from Port Harcourt, Rivers State into Lokoja. State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Kastina who paraded the suspects said they were arrested while conducting ‘deliverance’ for people at a revival programme organised by one of them in Lokoja. According to Muhammed, Bishop Bamidele who is the pastor-in-charge of Eagle Kingdom Church, Lokoja was said to have contacted Pastor Chuks from Port Har-court to help raise money for his book launch. Sources said Chucks, who was an expert in such ventures came with members of his team, some of who acted like mermaid; deaf and dumb persons while others claimed to have been afflicted with other sicknesses during the revival to sway the sympathy of those in attendance. However, a member of the congregation who felt uncomfortable with the way the pastors were conducting the deliverance, reported them to the police which moved in swiftly and arrested the suspects. One of the suspects, Pastor Chuks, however defended his action saying, “This is not robbery, its pure professionalism. Every profession has its own way of surviving. The police have their own way, the lawyers have their own way; even you journalists have your own way; what I did is pure business and survival instinct.’’ Also, Pastor Osita Chukwu who posed as mermaid said she was promised N16, 000 while leaving Port Harcout to Lokoja but they only got N1, 000 pending the conclusion of the botched revival programme. |

Many people, including civilians, attackers and operatives of various security agencies were feared killed yesterday when over a dozen high profile bombs exploded and gunmen fired gunshots for several hours in many parts of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, witnesses said. Residents said crisis erupted around 5.00pm and continued unabated, a development that forced the state capital to a standstill as people scampered for safety while thick smoke and raging flames enveloped the skies. According to witnesses, the Joint Task Force (JTF) had engaged the attackers numbering over 100 in a gun dwell into the night. One report said the attackers were heading for the private residence of the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, while another report said they were heading for the governor’s official residence along Maiduguri Road. Commander of the JTF in Yobe State, Colonel Dahiru Abdulsalam, confirmed that there was an attack in Damaturu yesterday, but that his men were on top of the situation. “We are on top of the situation...We actually arrested a member of the Boko Haram who was about planting an explosive somewhere,” he said. He said JTF operatives had also discovered a hideout of the sect members at a primary school in Sabon Fege. “We have mobilized our men to the site,” he said. No group claimed responsibility as at press time but the attacks mirrored the pattern of onslaught being perpetrated by members of the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal Jihad, also known as Boko Haram. Sources said yesterday’s clamp down was sparked off by the arrest of a suspected member of the Boko Haram earlier in the day in Damaturu, who allegedly died in custody of security operatives. It was also learnt from reliable sources that about 25 members of the Boko Haram sect were arrested at Yindiski area in Potiskum, 120km away from the state capital. A source at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu confirmed that trouble started at the hospital around 5pm when some soldiers took a suspected member of the sect to the hospital for treatment. “He was brought to the Accident and Emergency section with some bullet wounds for treatment. He was alive when they brought him. However, when we were about treating him, we heard endless gunshots behind the perimeter fence of the hospital. Some of the soldiers mobilized to the direction of the gunshots and fired back while the remaining soldiers took the suspect away,” the source said. “It was from here that the fighting escalated to many parts of the city in what looked like a series of coordinated attacks,” the source added. Speaking in low voices, many residents told Daily Trust by phone that yesterday’s attack may likely be more devastating than the November 4th, 2011 spontaneous attacks in Damaturu which left many people dead and reduced many buildings and symbols of authority to shreds. Resident Maryam Ali said there was fighting between suspected gunmen and operatives of the Joint Task Force at Sabon Fegi area where the private residence of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam is located. Sounds of blasts and gunshots soon manifested in other areas, including Nayinawa, Gwange, Gashua Road, Ali Marami as well as settlements in the western and eastern bypass of Damaturu. “I am afraid to tell you that the assailants have probably attacked the governor’s private house in Sabon Fegi,” Mohammed Sani, a resident of the area said, adding that he saw a thick smoke from the direction of the house where Governor Gaidam stays with his family. Daily Trust also gathered that a police outpost located close to the governor’s private residence was destroyed by the ravaging explosives of the gunmen. The number of people killed and those injured could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report. “It will not be possible to bring any corpse now because as I am talking to you, sounds of gunshots still rent the air and we have many outpatients that have been trapped here,” the source at the hospital, who spoke to our correspondent around 9.20pm said. |
Damaturu, capital of Yobe State presently under gun and bomb attacks. More details soon. |
ogugua88: So what happens to the unqualified president?Immediate Expulsion from Aso Rock Villa. |
noblezone: Also, Boko haram is not trying to seize the country from Mr. President because the country is not his personal property. We all know what has been happening in Nigeria since it was invented by Lord Luggard, blaming Jonathan for the crimes against humanity committed by the Jihardists is pure irresponsibility. The butchery industry of Northern Nigeria did not start with Jonathan and will not stop with him. Mohammed the founder of Islam butchered, Usman Dan Fodio the father of Islam in Nigeria butchered, and the story continues...This shows that you're as dumb as Jonadumb. Ignorant but yet arrogant. Where did you learn that Dan Fodio is the father of Islam in Nigeria? Tell me when did they butchered your father? Here you are arguing with whom you called children but yet you can't make your point to conviance them. Please defend your incompetent president if you can. If you have anything against islam go to the religion section and post or start a new thread on that. Ignoramus. |

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) yesterday said Christians are also involved in sophisticated terrorism in Nigeria just as it expressed concern over the way serious security issues are being handled with at the expense of the citizens in the country. JNI in a statement by its Secretary General Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu said had Mr. John Alaku Akpavan, the man arrested at Radio House Abuja on Monday with grenades, were to be a Muslim, the story would have been different. “Since he is a Christian, he is either insane or incapacitated; but if he were a Muslim, he is a terrorist, Boko Haram or a fundamentalist”, it said. “All thanks are due to Allah the Most High for vindicating the JNI because some times in February, 2012 we made a press release demanding explanations from the CAN President on why some Christians are arrested in Muslim attires/dressing while attempting to bomb or commit act of terrorism. “Few of such were the cases of one Lydia Joseph (the failed bomber of St. John Catholic Cathedral) of Bauchi State who attempted to bomb a church; the man arrested in Bayelsa State was also in turban, and the Gombe case. Again we were astonished to hear of one Augustine Effiong in connection with BUK bomb attack.” http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=163268:christians-are-also-involved-in-terrorism-in-nigeria-jni&catid=1:news&Itemid=2 |
