WombRaiders: You are an slowpoke to the core.
The answer remains 6.
It is only when dealing with variables in algebra that the prefixed sign of negative or positive applies.
In simple Bodmas arithmetics (which stands for Bracket, Open, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction) the last operation to be carried out is subtraction!
Naturally, you would have multiplied first then added the value to the 3 to the left.
So what stopped your dunce head from adding the values to the right?
As I said the final operation to be done is to subtract the values to the right from that in the left.
Dunces like you do not even know the difference between simple arithmetic problems involving absolute values to that of algebra involving variable assigned values.
Go and ask your nephews and nieces in primary school to re- educate you.
Dunce Na now I know say some people no even know the BODMAS wai them da shout, BODMAS stands for B = BRACKET O = OF or ORDER or OVER (not and never OPEN) D = DIVISION M = MULTIPLICATION A = ADDITION S = SUBTRACTION if you do not know what the OF stands for, sometimes you will hear in word problem where they say 20 is 5 times OF 4, that is where it comes from.(i.e 20/4) OF or when you see 20/4 - OVER (still the same with OF) |

BishopMagic it does not matter which one comes first, even though BODMAS says subtraction comes last, they actually have equal power in this case, so anyone you handle will go.
so
3+3*3-3+3 = 3+9-3+3
so if I handle the negative first, we can have 3+9-3+3 = 3+(9-3)+3 = 3+6+3 = 12 3+9-3+3 = 3+9 + (-3+3) = 3 + 9 + 0 =12 or if you handle the positive first 3+9-3+3 = (3+9)-3+3 = 12-3+3 = 12
All of you getting 6, your mistake is this, and I repeat 3+9-3+3 = (3+9) - (3+3)
I dare you to open the second bracket, and if you do not have = 3+9-3-3, then you do not know maths, but if you get it, you will know that your method is wrong. |

Very funny guys around here.
Meanwhile, this is how it is solved all numbers have signs in front of them that cannot be neglected, showing all the signs for the question it will look like this
(+3) (+3) x (+3) (-3) (+3) ........ eqn (1)
eqn(1) can also be written as
(+3) + [(+3) x (+3)] + (-3) + (+3) ...... eqn (2)
Now BODMAS
Brackets (allow the parentheses, only remove square brackets) i.e solve (+3) x(+3)
(+3) + (+9) + (-3) + (+3) ...... eqn (3) (if you disagree let me see your hands up)
There is no OFF, Division, Multiplication so we move to the addition, we can add everything up apart from the one with the negative sign
= [+3++9++3+(-3)] = [3+9+3-3] = [15-3] = [12] = 12
No Long story
Please Note that the sign in front of a number belongs to that number exclusively and cannot be separated from it. If a number does not have a sign in front, it is implicitly positive.
Hence you can't do this 3+3 x 3 - 3+3 = 3+(3 x 3)-(3+3) {Wrong}
Rather it should be 3+3 x 3 - 3+3 = 3 + (3 x 3) + (-3 +3) {Correct} |

abbeyseto: Hi guys(and ladies), You see, for those that complained about being rejected despite their worth, and they feel it's all a joke. The recruitment section of Andela knows what they are doing.
For you to be a good programmer, you need patience and persistence. Know what you want and go for it no matter how many times you fail, only that; learn from each failure before attempting again.
This is like my 7th time of applying to Andela this year, and my third interview with them but from each application, i improve my self in preparation for next application.
Now, I'm going for class XII bootcamp on Monday.
Except you are not passionate about being a world class developer that's when you'll easily give up on opportunities like this.
Applying is not easy; I know that, but hey... You just need to know what you want and go for it.

Ladies and gentlemen I brought up a topic among my friends today, and I got variety of interesting opinions, but I will still love to know what nairalanders think.
In a family where the husband and wife have good jobs and earn well, what should happen to the salary of the wife?
For ladies, what will you do with your salary? will you hand it over to your husband at the end of the month, so he can decide on the fate of the money?
For Men, what do you expect from your wives? do you expect her to submit her salary, or use it for herself? |

Lagosians are at an advantage.
This complaint was made in the first few pages of this thread when the Co- founder gave opportunity to ask questions. And he promised to address it.
Anyway, I'm not hating. It's just common sense. yeah, I reason with you, considering that am faced with the same challenge, its a large risk to take for such low probability of positive outcome. They barely ask most of the interviewees serious questions. It's based on who they like not just how passionate you are.
