Jobs/VacanciesRe: Common Interview Questions by Ramos16(op): 11:58pm On Jun 21, 2015
Here are five common interview questions and their response according to forbes:

5. Why are you the best person for this position?

In asking this question, the hiring manager is looking for you to succinctly convey what sets you apart from the other candidates. Think of your most impressive and unique strengths that closely relate to the job description and use those to pitch yourself in a way that clearly illustrates the skill set and qualities you bring to the table.

Sample Answer: My analytical horsepower sets me apart from other candidates. For example, I imagine all of your candidates can create robust Excel-based financial models. However, I can also see and articulate the business story behind the numbers to influence decision-making. During a major food-chain deal, I conducted the due diligence necessary to come up with the right multiple that my superiors should consider based not only on raw data but also on what was the best way to position the assets we were selling. My strategy resulted in a more profitable deal.

4. What is your greatest weakness?

Often dreaded by job candidates, the key to answering this question is to be honest yet strategic. On my site, I go into more detail on new and effective ways to answer this question truthfully without taking yourself out of the running. You also need to address the unspoken follow up, which is what you are doing to overcome your weakness. Ultimately, you want to show the hiring manager that you are self-aware, thoughtful and proactive about your strengths and weaknesses.

Sample Answer:My greatest weakness is my low patience when a team member withholds important information to the detriment of his or her peers or the assignment’s success. I have always tried to maximize knowledge-sharing by bringing team members together prior to launching any assignment to ensure everyone is on the same page. Yet, there have been times when people have withheld information even after these efforts. In those instances, I have learned to speak privately with those team members to understand why information was withheld.

3. How would people you have worked with describe you?

This question centers on how well you work with others and your ability to manage relationships with your peers, managers and direct reports. Give examples of situations that illustrate how you work with people across various functions. Answer truthfully, as the hiring manager will reach out to your references at a later point to ensure your perception of yourself is in line with theirs.

Sample Answer: My managers would describe me as someone who would rather tirelessly overcome obstacles on my own than continuously seek managerial guidance. I make my managers’ lives easier in this way. For example, when I first started working at firm C, I was asked to figure out ways to cut costs. Instead of relying on my manager, who had other projects to oversee, I decided to better understand the transportation logistics behind the wood chips that my employer needed in each facility. After seeing what worked best and what could be improved, I took this information to my manager, who was grateful for the initiative I took.

2. What is your biggest professional accomplishment to date?

This is your opportunity to provide an example that shows you can do the job. Think about the skills detailed in the job description and which of your accomplishments most directly relate. The goal is to convey to the hiring manager not only your past successes but also what you are capable of accomplishing if offered the job.

1. Tell me about your experience at Company X.

In other words, how does your past experience relate to the job the hiring manager is looking to fill? When answering this question, you want to convince the hiring manager that you can hit the ground running and bring value to the team by providing specific examples that resulted in successful outcomes. It’s also helpful to identify how your current and prospective employers differ. This will help you determine which skills to emphasize.

Sample Answer: Despite working for a company that prefers organic growth, I have worked through the nuances that evolve when two organizations with distinct cultural norms are brought together. For example, recently, new leadership from Company Y brought new ways of evaluating projects. I set out to understand their ways of doing things by building a rapport with key leaders and sharing with them the institutional knowledge I acquired during a successful eight-year career in the firm. An example of when my knowledge was beneficial is…etc.

Please, let's stop speculating,so we do not cause unnecessary anxiety, different organisations with their styles...
Truth be told, there is hardly any organisation that will employ people that performed below expectation, if the expectation or cut off mark is 90% then I see no reason why the organisation should ask people below to also come. My point is there can be much better heads that scored bellow 40% you won't ask the organisation to invite everybody to the interview because some people might not have gotten a fair test of knowledge.

The only thing that we should be praying for is that the organisation be touched by God, and let some considerations be given to some people, I got a 75%, so it is not as if I am saying all this because I scored a high mark,

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Common Interview Questions by Ramos16(op): 11:47am On Jun 21, 2015
I lost a programming job opportunity after passing the aptitude test beautifuly, when one of the interviewers asked what else i liked doing, i told him i love telecoms, and embedded systems, but this answer pissed my interviewer, as he expected me to say hobbies like tennis, tv games etc.
Well, what i learnt from that incident is that one should always prep themselves to answer questions that are company biased. In other words its not every time that your personal opinion matter, you just have to woo your interviewer to your side

Passing aptitude test is not the end, there is still medicals and even most importantly the interview.
I have been to a few interviews where they ask me certain questions that may seem silly at the time, but as a matter of fact determine your fate in getting into the job.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: HARPS Online Aptitude Test. by Ramos16(m): 10:59am On Jun 20, 2015
if harps will pick only the best scores then people below 95% should start praying, because i have seen a lot of 100%, probably more than 15 already, and there is still the 99, 98, 97%, which take up a large number on nairaland alone, minding that more than 2 /3rd of the people that took the test or are to take are not part of the nairaland threads for the job and their own scores matter too. So i think everybody should be praying even the people with 100%

I messed up big time

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Andela: IT Training And Job by Ramos16(m): 4:29pm On Jun 05, 2015
tolularson:
The reason why you were asked that question is to determine your 'kindergarten skills' and how you relate in groups and teams, even if you like telecoms, you must have other fun stuffs you do to unwind.
Its not about being the best coder or one super geek guy, I started coding 2 weeks before bootcamp and I'm a class 8 fellow today and I feel there were several guys in bootcamp who were better and more experienced programmers than me. So bros chillout and apply again.

P.S. I'm a male and eh ehn, we want more females in Andela biko.
Shew!! U need more females? That one good oh! Me I like girls well well oh, andela for da creat special recruitment for females so that una go da "unwind" make all of una "kindergarten skills " come out, hehe.

On a more serious note, people are different, I do not consider my self a geek, not even to say a super geek, certain people unwind by taking a walk, chatting, spending time in a bar, beach, museum, playing tennis, football etcetera etcetera.unwinding is just doing something different, something that is not a daily routine and you enjoy doing, which in itself is a skill you acquired overtime from practice, and can be job to another man.I love to work with simple telecoms and embedded systems, I creat control switches and just have fun doing it, me and my friends find so much pleasure in this, and we do it with no stress, it won't be wrong to say that is how I unwind after a hard days job. If I am a banker and I unwind by coding I guess my "kindergarten skill" can also show through that. Well everybody has got their opinion of every issue, so I won't be surprised if anybody think differently, so chill out bro wink
ProgrammingRe: I Want To Learn Programming. Which Language Should I Start With? by Ramos16(m): 8:56am On Jun 04, 2015
infinitycane:
please I have interest on programming. i studied marketing in The university. I am conversant with PC and devices ( No Phobia ) for technology. I want to start Learning how to programme and develop softwares on my own due to the speed the world is moving with ICT i need it in my discipline. I dont know anything about programming language ( ie am a zero). How do I start? should i enroll in a programming class in one of the institutions here. I want someone to tell me if i can be able to get there from zero knowledge about programming language. How do i start to make it easy and effective on me. I tried reading E-books but to a point it started sounding too technical for me. Am not a mathematician or an engineer but i have the interest please tell me how do i start and carry on. If you were like me before. tell me what your experience was like....... please somebody i want to improve on my career.
You really don't need to enroll in any academy, but if you want to then you should be looking at a simple technology like c# or visual basic if you need speed, but if your apps must not be desktop, you should look at web technologies like HTML, css , JavaScript, and php, with these web techs you would start developing in no time

Sexychristeen:
I am tired of searching, whats the use? I have so much locked inside, but the world doesnt care!! I never thought it would be like this, i had it all planned out u see.... "finish school, get a job in the bank" none of my coursemates believe i am at home, whats the use of searching? Telling ur parents u going for an interview and coming back empty handed. Maybe my calling is biz, i dont know!! But one thing is sure i am no more applying, i cant take one more heartache. cry cry
for me i have decided not to tell anybody of my interviews, it eases your disappointment quickly, go your interview lowkey come back lowkey, nobody knows what happens, then one day you come home with the big news, the joy will be overwhelming. But the truth as i was told is that winners never quit and quitters never win, so you have to just keep trying
one way or another
