During BVN exercise, account holder is required to sign and verify biometric finger print. 2. How could Stella Idua's signature be used for her maid's bio data. 3. How is it possible that the account is still operational till now? Anyway, SR has a way of digging out dirt in detail. We wait If this really happened, then the bank was involved to create the account specially for her. Politicians & bankers work hand in hand when corrupt act like this is involved. |

seunmsg: The supreme court may likely reverse the judgement of the high court as the said Ogah did not participate in all the electoral process. I think it's better for all the appeal processes to be exhausted before the execution of any court order. The status quo should remain till then. If you remember the case of Omehia & Rotimi Amaechi during his first tenure, when Omehia became governor on the platform of PDP, but Amaechi contested he was the winner of the primaries, you'll realize it's a similar pattern @ play here too. In this situation, it's about the party that won the election, so if there's a tussle, they'll fight dirty till the best man wins. |

shine12: Yes, Energy from Waste plant can potentially be one our energy solutions in Nigeria. I was even discussing it with a much more senior Engineer the other day about bringing it across Africa and He said that it’s very possible in Nigeria especially but the constraint will be the procurement of the construction process and as you said it’s really a tall order (it can definitely be done) To me the issue is with the funders. I do have contact of process plant suppliers. Once someone can get a developer with money to spend, it can be built in Nigeria, it’s about convincing the Alikos, Tinubus of this world to fund it. The one I’m currently working on has a capacity of 20MW which will produce a monthly equivalent of 11,520MW.h. The funny thing about the waste is that the plant operators buy wastes as far away as Germany and bring to the UK to use as a source of energy. Honesty, from what I've seen it's big business, & the raw materials are lying everywhere in the country. Please can i grt in touch with you, i noticed the nairaland pm isn't working. Thanks! |

shine12: I do agree with you. Nigeria organisations/Banks/Universities spend a fortune on buildings but it pains my heart that a lot of these buildings still looks pre 1960 residential buildings. An example is just going to the website of the private Universities with expensive large RC house looking libraries, they are not masterpieces but are still expensive.
As far as we keep allowing foreign Engineers to come and design our big challenging highway, bridge and Mall projects, we will never develop. Our Engineers needs to push the boundaries of Structural Engineering (I'm not talking about a Site Civil Engineer, their experience is needed as well as buildability is important as well) unless, we might never go beyond the basic RC column and beam square grid designs.
There are loads of Nigerian Structural Engineers practicing in the UK and USA who has enormous wealth of experience in designing world class structures; Energy from Waste Plants,Ship yards, distribution centres.I beg them to come home.
As a Structural engineer, I'm looking to start a design firm in Lagos next year as I have been opportuned by God's grace to have designed innovative and challenging structures such as bunkers, conveyor systems, Energy from waste plants. These are innovative out of the box structures.
For the Op saying He corrects Architects drawings,no Architect that is trained and professional will make the most basic rookie mistake of putting a sink to block the door, you might have been dealing with non experienced drafters. I've had interest in Energy from waste, but after going through my research, it seemed like a tall dream to achieve cause we don't have anyone with that kind of expertise. Glad to see a Nigerian with immense experience in the structural aspect. We really need something of this nature in the country, it's long overdue. |

Just wonder why there's no level playing ground in this country. Can't someone from a humble background aspire to work in any government establishment by merit without knowing anyone. How would these guys strive for excellence when they got the job on a platter of gold. we need strong institutions in this country, you don't build solid institutions like this! Entrepreneurship isn't for everyone, cause I'm sure after putting their kids in juicy positions, they'd gather the unemployed youths to learn how to make soap.. grandstar: Currency depreciations and devaluations do not exist in a void. They are caused by one factor or the other.
For instance, the dollar has been appreciating against the Euro and other currencies in the past 1 year. That means the naira will depreciate against it.
Also, inflation is an implicit devaluation of your currency. If the inflation rate is 10% per year, that means the currency is worth 10% less than the previous year. In the short or long term, such a currency has to devalue.
Countries with very low inflation tend to maintain their value vis a vis countries with higher inflation.
Next, if your currency is properly priced, you can never deplete your reserves!
A good example is India. In 1991, it had only $1b in its foriegn reserves. It was in very desperate situation. It now allowed the currency to float, to be fully determined by market forces.
Immediately, dollars started flowing in from abroad replenishing the foriegn reserves. From $1b, it now$295b.
Buhari has done the complete opposite of floating and the country is in a dilemma.
You speak of depleting the reserves but you are silent on replenishing it? How do you bring in more dollars? That is where the government is failing.
Nobody will bring in forex at 197. Those who receive WU are livid at the poor rates. Is it someone bringing in $10m that will be pleased? Ok i get your point, those with forex would operate @ a terrible loss, while the banks & bdc would be raking in mega profits. My only fear is if the naira is devalued, the price of fuel & other commodities will skyrocket unless govt flood more naira into the system to give people purchasing power, & the also be exchange rate in the BM may shift again if the supply of dollar doesn't match it's demand... |

grandstar: The present tools government is using is causing mayhem in the economy. They have proven to be blunt and highly ineffective shortchanging almost everyone. The best indicator of this is that a bag of pure water is now 100 naira.
The proper thing to do is to allow the currency depreciate to its real value based on the present forex earning so that the government can provide enough forex to everyone who demands it.
GEJ allowed the currency to depreciate snd that is why is why despite oil prices falling from $118 to $45, the naira fell from 165 to 210.
It is the opposite with PMB who said he won't allow the currency to depreciate from day 1. That is why there is so much bedlam. I don't think you're still getting the point, the reason why government doesn't want to devalue is because even if it does, the value will still change over time. Cbn can no longer release dollars from our reserves causes it's already depleted. It would mean giving out more than we are getting in through exports, which is not the possibility for now since the major export earner for us has depreciated in value.. If we exhaust our reserves, the naira will loss its value. |
