Ukame Ubong alias “Ability” has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command, after escaping from court. According to the Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuwa, he said, the suspect is a native of Akwa Ibom state, he is an expert in snatching of Jeeps and other sophisticated cars across the state. The suspect was paraded alongside other criminal elements arrested by the police command.

“Ability and his gang members specialize in the snatching of so many Jeeps within Cross River state and beyond and some of these jeeps he takes them down to Akwa Ibom, Abuja to dispose. “The suspect is presently with us and will be charged to court at the end of our Investigation. Meanwhile, we are now tracing all the Jeeps that he has so far robbed from people”.

Briefing Channels Television at the State CID in Calabar, the Cross River state capital, the CP said they also paraded a female suspect who kidnapped a three-year-old boy in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state on December 2016.

“On January 4, 2017, Mary Samuel of Ndunikpa Etoi Village in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state was arrested in connection with the kidnap of a three-year-old David Aniefiok since December 16, 2016. “The Child was rescued alive and he has been reunited with his family, though he is presently sick”, the CP said.

Condemning a system where criminals who are charged to court find their way out of prison, the CP said,

“The case of armed robbery is a very serious offence so, at any given time such suspects are been taken to court, enough security should be given most especially by those whose responsibility is to take them to court. “Similarly, the court itself should do everything possible to ensure adequate security.

The Police Command in Enugu State has warned masquerades and their assistants against assault, molestation, and intimidation of Nigerians in the state under whatever guise.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, gave the warning in a statement in Enugu on Monday.

Amaraizu said that the police would arrest anyone caught committing any offense under the guise of masquerade shows.

He said that the command had continued to say that people’s rights should not be infringed upon in any show or festivity.

He advised communities to celebrate their culture and masquerade festivities within the confines of the law. “The Police have frowned at the report received concerning the alleged recklessness of some masquerades and their assistants on the issue of assault, molestation, and intimidation of good people of the state. “Anyone caught committing offense or wrecking havoc on members of the public under the guise of masquerade festivities will be promptly arrested and prosecuted,’’ he said.

In a related development, the command through its operatives in Nsukka Police Divisional Headquarters has nabbed one of the assistants of Oriokpa Masquerade, Nnamdi Okoro, in Nsukka on March 26.

Okoro was alleged to have assaulted Mr. Ezeugwu Lawrence, which caused him injury on his head at Ugwuoye axis of Nsukka. “Okoro is now helping police operatives in their investigation. “He will be arraigned properly in court after investigation,’’ the police spokesman said. (NAN)

Sequel to the kidnapping of Alhaji Isa Ozi Salami (OFR) in Maitama Abuja on the 21st of March, 2017, the police wung into action and after 5 days, 11 of the kidnappers were arrested.

Some of them are: Kelvin Emeka, Ndubisi Prince Ozor, Abdulrasheed Maigari, a 2006 Political Science Graduate of Bayero University Kano, recruited into DSS in september 2011 and was dismissed and charged to court 12/11/2016 for robbing N310m.

Maigari was released by court on 28/11/16 and he immediately joined this kidnapping gang in Abuja. He became the coordinator of the gang and also rented the 2 houses in Suleija where they keep victims.

Others are Sunday Tyavnor, who he is the arms dealer who sold the ak47 rifle used for the kidnappings for N470k and the 2 pistols for 60k each, Zayor Alfred, Avah Joseph, Nuhu Sule, Ali Isa amongst others.

The victim, who is a former General Manager, PAN, MD Nigeria Paper Mills, Jebba and Chairman, Gateway Insurance, was rescued from the kidnappers’ hideout, a 2 bedroom house rented by the kidnappers in Suleja, Niger State.

  The suspects onfessed to several kidnappings within Abuja,  including that of one Mr Japhet in Gwarimpa where N5m was collected, 2 university ladies with N2m collected as ransom and a fuel station owner in Gwarimpa, with N50m collected as ransom and many more.

The headmistress of a primary school at Amaetiti Asaga Ohafia, Abia State, Mrs. Maryleen Ezichi, has been reportedly demoted to a classroom
teacher for allegedly embarrassing the wife of Abia State governor, Nkechi Ikpeazu, Punchng is reporting.

It was gathered that Ezichi has been transferred to the Ukwa-East Local Government Area — about 140 kilometers from her former school — to serve as a deterrent for her ‘impunity and lack of respect for constituted authority'

The headmistress, it was learnt had, during an interactive session with Ikpeazu’s wife after the inauguration of her free meal programme for primary school pupils in her school, complained that ‘teachers were being owed several months of salary arrears and allowances’

Ezichi was quoted to have told the governor’s wife that teachers had been finding it difficult to meet their financial obligations like the payment of house rents, school fees for their wards, medical bills, transport fares and had pleaded with her to intercede on their behalf.

It was gathered that two days after, the embattled Ezichi was whisked away to Umuahia from the school, where she was handed a letter of deployment and instructed to proceed to the new station immediately.

A 36-year-old Nigerian national and his accomplice, were arrested on Monday, March 20, from Sriniwaspuri in Delhi for cheating a woman of over
Rs 9 lakh.Hilary Nnamdi Okoli and 34-year-old Reena Basumatari were arraigned in a Gurgaon court on Tuesday and taken on four days' police custody.

According to Times Of India, in the first week of February, Mr Okoli met Pooja (name changed), an engineer working with a reputable company in DLF-3, on a matrimonial site where he posed as a prospective groom. He introduced himself as Jeff Dennis, an engineer settled in the UK.
As Pooja found Okoli's 'profile' interesting, they exchanged phone numbers. Soon they started interacting through WhatsApp calls. Both shared information about their family background. She asked Okoli to visit India and meet her parents, to which he gave his consent.

On Feb 28, Pooja received a call from Okoli informing her that he had reached Mumbai. Minutes later, Pooja's phone rang and this time it was from a man, who claimed to be from the customs department, informing Pooja that Okoli had been detained as he was carrying 45,000 pounds (Rs 37 lakh approx) in cash. He asked her to deposit Rs 42,000 as penalty after which Okoli would be released and given 5% of the total amount in cash, the rest would be credited to her bank acccounts.

After depositing the amount, Pooja received another call informing her that as Okoli was given 5% of the amount in cash he told them that he needed more cash as he wanted to buy gifts and jewellery for Pooja. She asked the 'official' for a solution that would ensure that Okoli got more cash in hand. Pooja ended up depositing Rs 9,45,700 through 12 online transactions into 10 different accounts.

"After depositing Rs 9,45,700, I received a mail that the money (pending amr from Rs 36,59,884) will be credit to my account only after I upgrade my account, for which I was asked to deposit Rs 32,25,000. I got suspicious and contacted my bank. The branch manager informed me that I had been duped. When I tried calling Jeff, his number was switched off.

The Federal Government has named the newly established Nigerian Army shooting range at the Sambisa forest after the late Lt.-Col. Abu Ali.

Abu Ali, who was the commander of an army formation at Mallam Fatori in Borno east, died in a battle on Nov. 4, 2016, when Boko Haram terrorists attempted to invade and take the town.

Fadimatu Umar, daughter of the district head of Umar Ardo in Yola, Adamawa State, has claimed that her father bribed the
Police Commissioner in charge of Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) in Abuja to cover up a case of an attempt to kill her.

She alleged that her father planned to use her corpse for a ritual. Ms. Umar claimed that her siblings - Murtala, Aisha, Abubakar and Aliyu - were hired by her father to carry out the murder.

Her siblings, she told SaharaReporters, attacked her, leaving her with a badly damaged arm, which may have to be amputated.

The victim, 28, disclosed that less than a year ago, her stepmother, Bintu, died under mysterious circumstances, which she alleged was the handiwork of her father. The woman's death, Ms. Umar added, convinced her that she would be the next target.

After hearing noises coming from the front gate of her home, Ms. Umar jumped through her window in fear of her life. She alleged that she was pursued by her siblings until they caught up with her in front of the National Identity Card Management Office.

Ms. Umar said she reported the attack to the police, who subsequently arrested Aisha and Abubakar. But Aliyu Umar Ardo, an Air Force officer, and Muitala, who works with Intels Services, escaped arrest by fleeing.

Aliyu, she said, later emerged and wanted to shoot her, a fate she escaped through the intervention of family friends. She maintained that Aliyu and Murtala have continued with their plot to kill her in an effort to end the case of attempted ritual killing she reported to the police.

Ms. Umar then fled Yola and petitioned the FCID in Abuja. The petition led to the arrest of Murtala. Their father used his connections to free Murtala, who proceeded to bribe Mr. Jonah Mava, Police Commissioner in charge of the FCID, to dump the case.

She also disclosed that her case with the family would be brought to court in Adamawa State on April 6, but she has been warned not to appear in court because she would be abducted.
