27861FW: [NdiCISA] Re: [IWA_Igbo] TRADITIONAL RULERS URGE UNITY AMONG NDIGBO Updated Oliver Anam Mar 21, 2010 Attention: Fellow Anioma Indigenes. Please concentrate on the event of March, 19th as detailed below. What an interesting REVELATION/INFORMATION from both HRM Dr. E.O. Efeizomor II OON; JP, the Obi Of OWA in Ika North LGA, who is also the incumbent Chairman, Anioma Traditional Rulers Council and HRM Prof. J.C. Edozien CFR; JP,the Azagba Of Asaba/Ahaba both in Anioma, Delta State I believe that as perfect custodians of our Anioma culture and traditions, our Royal Fathers are in an advantage and better position to educate us more on our Igbo identity, rather than the Osia's among us whose interests are PERSONAL. Uninformed, unsuspecting and gullible Anioma sons and daughters, especially those in diaspora have been bamboozled by Dr. Kunirum Osia's "Trojan Horse" article on "Who We (Anioma people) Are" . This article which is found in Anioma.org website by Dr. Osia (who has abandoned and severed his relationship with the Anioma Association USA and every Anioma individual, after ending the tenure of office as the Founding Nat'l President, Anioma USA). Osia's poisonous and caustic academic exercise write-up has remained a sour source of reference by some Aniomans in diaspora who believe that whatever our great scholar Kunirum Osia, a PhD holder in Political Science dishes out must be "swallowed" I Remain a Proud Igboman Anam/OO President,CISA [side note:CISA stands for council of Igbo states in America and yes, an anioma is the president] To: IWA_Igbo@yahoogroups.com; asa-usa@yahoogroups.com; ASA-World@yahoogroups.com; IgboWorldForum@yahoogroups.com; ndicisa@yahoogroups.com; NigerianWorldforum@yahoogroups.com; IVGSV@yahoogroups.com; ogenendiigbo@yahoogroups.com CC: oanam@...; profok@... On arrival at Sam Mbakwe Airport , Owerri members of Igbo World Assmbly, IWA, ASA World, Council of Igbo States of America , CISA, and European Igbo Council, EIC, drove straight to the residence of the Chairman of South East Traditional Rulers Council,Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, the Obi of Obinugwu.. Eze Ilomuanya and members of the delegation led by Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze exchanged views on how Ndigbo associations in the diaspora could be more effective in projecting Ndi-Igbo affairs. To this end, the delegation and the traditional ruler agreed to reinforce the special communication channel earlier established between the two groups. Eze Ilomuanya enjoined Ndigbo associations in the diaspora to continue to work for peace and unity among Ndigbo at home and in the diaspora. The traditional Ruler observed that the two year tenure system for headship of Ndigbo associations at home and abroad was short and inadequate. He noted that before anyone could settle down in the position, the person’s tenure had run out and “the trend was militating against the ability of the person to be effective in embarking on activities to project Ndi-Igbo. The Royal Father observed that the conduct of the February 6 gubernatorial election in Anambra state was exemplary and worthy of emulation thoughout the length and breath of Nigeria . Eze Ilomuanya commended NdiAnambra for making a right choice by re-electing Mr. Obi as Governor ofAnambra State adding that Mr. Obi’s election was “akin to putting a round peg in a round hole”. Thursday March 18 The delegation visited the Imeobi palace of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, Agbogidi. The traditional ruler expressed delight at the tremendous improvement of the security situation in the state. Igwe Achebe, who is the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, stressed the need for the State Government and private entrepreneurs to establish more industries in the state to provide employment for the teeming youths of the state. The Royal Father commended ASA-World and IWA for their role in fostering unity among Ndigbo. Friday March 19 Two highly placed traditional Rulers inDelta State, the Asagba of Asaba, Professor J.C. Edozien CFR; JP., and the Obi of Owa in Ika North Local Government, Dr. E.O. Efeizomor II OON; JP., have stressed the need for Ndigbo, no matter the geopolitical location in which they are based, to be united in the quest for Ndi-Igbo to again become relevant in Nigeria in particular and the world in general. Professor Edozien made the remarks when he granted audience to a delegation of IWA, ASA World, CISA and EIC. The traditional Ruler, a former academician, who received the delegation with a retinue of his fully attired members of cabinet, said that although Asaba people were located in the south south geopolitical zone, “most of my subjects hail from Nteje in Oyi Local Government of Anambra State”. Professor Edozien noted that "nothing could be achieved by Ndigbo unless unity prevailed among members of the ethnic group irrespective of the geopolitical zone in which they are based”. He appealed to IWA to work assiduously to resolve the crisis in World Igbo Congress, WIC, and, thereafter "IWA, WIC, ASA World, CISA, EIC and other Ndi-Igbo associations in the diaspora should pool their resources together to uplift the welfare of Ndi-Igbo”. The Asagba expressed delight over the efforts of IWA, ASA World, CISA and EIC to project, through the museum on Igbo Village to be opened on September 17, 2010 in Stanton , Virginia in the United States of America , the contributions of Ndi-Igbo to one of the major civilizations in modern history. Friday March 19 On his own part, the Obi of Owa in Ika North Local Government of Delta State, Dr. E.O. Efeizomor II OON; J.P., said that research had traced the origin of Ika people to the Nris of Anambra State. Dr. Efeizomor II who has been on the throne for fifty years, said that what was significant about the research was that it was conducted by Ika intellectuals. The traditional Ruler said that although the “Ikas were making spirited efforts to identify and relate with Ndi-Igbos in the South East geopolitical zone, the efforts were not being reciprocated, hence a few Ikas have reservations over their affinity with Ndi-Igbo”. The Obi of Owa presented to members of the IWA delegation a book to buttress his assertion that Ikas were, according to him, “proud Ndi-Igbo of Nri ancestry”. Dr. Efeizomor II said that the entire Ika traditional institution was happy to participate in the Igbo Day that was held in Owerri on September 29, 2009 adding that “Ika people look forward to joining our brothers and sisters in taking part in more Ndi-Igbo activities in future”. Friday March 19, 2010 The traditional ruler of Agulu, HRH Innocent E. Obodowkor expressed delight that Ndigbo were beginning to be united. Eze Obodowkor said that before the advent of Mr. Peter Obi’s government four years ago, NdiAnambra were behaving like an ethnic group that was cursed but “ I am happy that with the election of one of my subjects to the exalted office in Awka, things have started to change for the better”. |

Dredging of the Aba River on August 11, 2015 / in Viewpoint 2:18 pm / Comments FROM the old, cranky bridge overlooking the Aba waterside, the crowd of bystanders stood to watch the new cinema. There used to be the old REX and EMI Cinema in this town where the senior boys of old stole out of bed and scale over the barbed wire fences of their dormitories at night to watch the escapades of the Chinese macho man, Bruce Lee, the American version of Rambo. That was the Aba of old, the paradise lost. Today, there is no more Rex, no more Emi and no more Bruce Lee. But, there is a new fancy that has caught the attention of the Aba people this early morning and they are looking with consumed absentmindedness, oblivious of the risk of the speeding trucks behind them. The new cinema is the combusting dredger crawling in the Aba river, excavating the waters and evacuating the accumulated debris that have caused the water to meander away from its concave shores. The bystanders are looking with curiosity because a dredger in the Aba River is a novelty. There is no memory, as much as they can flashback, of a dredger in Aba or of a dredging work in Aba River. So they must be part of this drama! The scenario, in symbolic terms, goes to signal the Aba Urban Renewal Drive, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s driving force under which he is reviewing the truncated dream that is Aba city. Recently, he deployed the dredger to the Aba water as part of effort to recover an endangered water line. The sedimentation of debris below the water bed is partly the cause of the Aba flood and the environmental decay. If there had been constant dredging in the past, the river would accommodate more storm water from the drainages and the entire network of drainages in the city will flow freely. Cutting through the thick forest of Okpu Umuobo in Osisioma local council, the Aba River snakes its way through the city to Ukwa and empties into the Opopo River. In the hey days of Aba’s fame, the river provided water as raw material to the manufacturing companies which were strategically located along its banks and also accommodated sewage. Old students of the many old schools of Aba savour sweet memories of their swimming spree in the waterside. Courtyard swimming pools were not common currency in those days so Aba boys and girls got their first swimming encounter here and mastered the symphony of the ebbs and tides. Thus, the Aba waterside remains another source of nostalgia for old Aba people. Indeed, the Aba waterside is what the lagoon is to Lagos. It defines its landscape and its topography and projects its environmental beauty. If you point at the heavy capacity ships that hang onshore waiting for the right to berth from the authorities of the ports of Apapa, Aba people would point at the wooden canoes paddled by the swamp dwellers of the waterlines. Apart from the sea breeze generated by the cascading waves of the Atlantic, there is nothing that the Lagos water offer that Aba waterside is not capable of offering Aba people. Abia can create her own beaches like Lagos. It could create a tourism delight out of the waterside. Governor Ikpeazu is looking in this direction. In the effort to create a new city, using local content and harnessing the latent ingenuity of the Aba people, the Aba River must be a key element in the mapping of a new landscape and designing of a new environmental order. If the Aba River is well guarded, it could provide potentials for marine transport. With the process of urbanization catching up with yesterday’s rural communities like Ovom, Akpa and the communities along the Aba Opobo road, a marine transport system is all what the natives need to access the city. Same with the communities along the Osisioma stretch of land. Mini commuter boats with final embarkation point at the waterside could serve this purpose. This will ease the traffic along the Orgbor hill axis and on the Aba Owerri Road. Governor Ikpeazu is prepared for the task at hand. The dredging of the waterside is the first step in a large and broad vision that encapsulates a marine culture that will add value to life, create a new symphony of drama of city life, re-engineer the economy and bring Aba back to its pride of place as the hub of commerce and trade. This is being driven in unison with the construction of new roads and maintenance of the old ones and the general infrastructural renewal of the city. Before the arrival of the dredger, the desilting of drainages, gutters, storm water systems and flood channels has been going on in earnest. It has been an amazing discovery to see many drainages of more than thirty feet deep, built by the colonial administration with the original plan of the city covered up by residents over the years, some with solid structures built over them. The dream is big; the will must be strong. This morning, the Aba people saw the tenacity of the will in the combusting dredger crawling in the water like a dancing duck. It provided a good sight, in the absence of Emi and Rex. But, much more than that, it heralded the town crier’s voice: a Daniel has come to judgment! - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/dredging-of-the-aba-river/#sthash.7IB2W4vp.dpuf |
BoA to Support Leather Workers in Aba August 5, 2015 Ben Onyiriuka, Manager, Bank of Agriculture, Obehie branch, Aba, Abia, on Wednesday promised that the bank would increase its financial support to leather workers in Ariaria Market. Onyiriuk, made the promise in Aba after he met with the executives of Leather Product Manufacturers Association (LEPMAS), Aba. He said that extending such facility to them became necessary because of the viability of the industry and its importance to boosting the nation’s economy. “As the name of our bank suggests, we are a development finance institution. Our business is to develop the people and grow the community. “And we found that LEPMAS has a linkage in the agriculture chain and so, they need our bank’s support because of the viability of the business they are engaged in. “So, if we must develop the people of Abia, it is imperative that we must touch their businesses and grow them as a community and that will impact positively on the national economy,’’ Onyiriuka said. He said the products of the leather workers in Aba were “very interesting’’ and also supported the economy of the state as a job provider for over 16, 000 citizens. He called on other financial institutions, investors and donors who want to touch the lives of Nigerians and reshape its economy to support Aba leather workers through funding and infrastructure. Onyiriuka said the BOA’s facilities go with conditionality that were the same in all their branches. He added that the conditions were, however, within the reach of the leather workers in Aba due to the viability of their business. “You do not invest in a man whose business is not viable otherwise what you are doing is what is called “stomach infrastructure’’. “We want to touch your business so that your business can change your life and have an impact on the economy,’’ Onyiriuka said. Anambra lobbies for inclusion among oil producing states May 18, 2015 • Attracts $2.5b investments The Anambra State government is courting the Federal Government to include it in the league of oil and gas producing states to benefit from the 13 per cent derivation funds that accrue to the oil producing states in the country. Governor Willie Obiano told The Nation in Houston, Texas, that he had gone to present the proposal for inclusion of the state in the oil producing states to President Goodluck Jonathan but the president stated until the state begins export of oil, it would not be recognised as one. Obiano said the oil field located in the Anambra basin produces about 2,500 barrels per day (bpd). He said production from the oil field has reached about 65,000 barrels and when it hits about 120,000 barrels, the state will make its first oil export. He also said he is talking with some investors who will build refinery and airport in the state on build, operate and transfer (BOT) arrangement. The investors will build the refinery on agreed terms, operate it for an agreed period and transfer it to the owners. He noted that the state owns an insignificant stake of about five per cent but he is making efforts to bring investors for the sake of industrialisation and job creation. The refinery, according to him, will start with 25,000 bpd capacity and later ramped up to 50,000 bpd. The airport, he said, would begin as a cargo airport where the materials needed in the state would be brought and goods, especially some byproducts from the refineries can be exported before expanding it into a passenger airport. He also asserted that there is no conflict or controversy in the ownership of the state’s oil producing asset, adding that the claim of ownership of the asset by Kogi people was politically motivated, adding that the issue has since been resolved. He noted that the oil field is 22 miles into state, therefore, the ownership contest shouldn’t arise. He said the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) has increased by over 100 per cent since he took over. According to him, he inherited an IGR of N500 million but it has risen to N1.1 billion and he intends to raise it to N3.3 billion by this year’s end. “I cannot imagine myself as a renowned banker operating an IGR of N500 million in a state such as Anambra,’’ he said. He also said since he came in as the governor a year ago, he has been able to attract investments of between $2.2 billion and $2.5 billion in some sectors of the state’s economy. For instance, in agriculture, he mentioned the development of $250 million farm by Coscharis Farm Limited, adding that the company is also building a $150 million tomato-processing plant in the state, which is the first of its kind in Africa. The Coscharis Farm is located on 2,700 acres of land. Obiano said he wants to make Anambra an investor destination and he is starting with security. He reiterated his resolve to wipe out kidnappers and all types of crimes and vices. The state government, he said, is committed to providing steady power supply through the establishment of embedded and captive generation to reduce the cost of production of goods and services. He stressed his plans to make education and other vital areas of the economy that enhance standard of living accessible and affordable. http://anambrariansnews.com.ng/?p=11120 |

The company has also hatched a plan with an indigenous company known as Nails & Stanley Ltd to establish a gas plant in Umueje in Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state. Offering insight into the development during a recent meeting between the Board of Directors of the company and the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano in the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, the Managing Director of the company, Engr. SunnyOkoye revealed that Orient had revved up activities in two new oil wells in its Aguleri oilfields that would shore up the company’s production capacity to 3000bpd before September this year. According to him, Orient is not only working assiduously on boosting the production capacity of its oil wells, the company is also developing the vast gas resources in the state. “We are dealing with gas development on two fronts. The first one is the gas production we have right now, side by side with oil. We are looking at how to transform it to an income earning resource,” Engr. Okoye explained. The oil chieftain also revealed that it was the drive to turn its gas resources into an income earner that informed the partnership it recently struck with Nails & Stanley in order to produce Compressed Natural Gas (CPG) that is used for industrial power as well as powering automobiles and a sundry other activities. Said he; “We are engaging Nails & Stanley for that. They are on track to install their compressor cans very soon and as soon as we are ready to flag their operations off in the state. We are going to develop the ANU Gas Field. We have a well which we are going to use to produce sufficient gas for increased power production in Anambra State. That’s the second plank of our gas development plan.” Engr. Anambra targets top spot in Rice Production Business Core Anambra local News Jul 30, 2015 0 36 rice-field The Anambra State government has advised the management staff of the FADAMA III Additional Financing Project, agro-dealers and farmers to live up to expectations in keeping with the Development Project Objective (DPO) by rededicating themselves to the total realisation of the implementation arrangements of the project. Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in the state, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, at a meeting with the management staff in Awka, noted that Governor Obiano had made huge investments in the project and expected nothing short of maximum output in order to attain the objectives of poverty reduction through value addition in rice. This came as the special adviser to the governor on Fadama III, Obinna Efobi, charged accredited agro-dealers in the state to supply quality seeds and agro-chemicals to farmers participating in the Fadama III financing to ensure maximum output and boost the governor’s investment in Fadama and other agricultural projects in the state. Efobi, who stated this while declaring open a one-day awareness creation workshop for accredited agro-dealers, called on the beneficiaries to maintain best agricultural practices and key into the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) of the federal government. Earlier, the acting state project coordinator, Mrs. Evelyn Odiari, solicited the assistance of the state government in reducing some of the bureaucratic indicators tampering with activities at the project. Efobi, who also spoke at the accredited agro-dealers workshop, reminded the participants of the need to increase the income of farmers in the prioritised staple crop processing zone on a sustainable basis, adding that the successes of Fadama II gave rise to the Fadama II1 additional financing. Three technical papers were presented at the workshop – Role of Agro-dealers in the Implementation of Fadama III AF, Procurement Issues, and ‘Linking Agro-dealers with Farmers. http://anambrariansnews.com.ng/?p=14781 |

My brother we are all inter-dependent on each other. The Igbo Vs Anambra division in nairaland was sown, nourished and developed by anti Igbo supremacists like Chino and Odenigbo who move from Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi propagating their m0ronic attributes; even anioma Igbos like Onenaira, Igboboy and many others have been made to avoid Igbo threads due to very unkind words from Chino. Abagworo also have a fair share of the blame because of his unwarranted poke nosing into issues that does not concern him and his unintelligent use of the word "IGBOTIC". His tendency to make false controversial comments that undermines the pride of the Igbo nation is also a minus. BUT WHEN YOU COMPARE HIM WITH CHINO AND ODENIGBO, YOU WOULD SEE THAT HE IS A LESSER EVIL AND HAS CAUSED LESS DAMAGE TO IGBO UNITY THAN CHINO AND ODENIGBO, IF TRUTH BE TOLD. AnambraDota: |

Waiting For Okorocha’s Commissioners Posted by admin on Jul 27th, 2015 Months after elections and swearing-in of Owelle Rochas Okroocha as second term Governor of Imo State, the masses are still waiting for Godot. Have you read about Godot? Expectations have been deep and high as politicians and the masses wait in vain for the Governor to submit the list of his Commissioners and Special Advisers to the Imo House of Assembly for approval and clearance. Although nearly all the States in the Southeast had since sworn-in their Commissioners as full administration of state matters swing it full force in such States, Imo State is still Governmed alone by Governor Okorocha, with the help of the Secretary to the State Government, Sir Jude Ejiogu and Chief of Staff, Chief Uche Nwosu. It is quite difficult to decipher the mindset of Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha in delaying the compilation of the list of his State Executive Council. Could it be that he wants to take his time and fish out the best around to help him execute the onerous task of taking Imo to the next level? Could it be a ploy to save funds, as the future Commissioners could only earn their salaries and allowances whenever they are sworn-in? Could it be that the Governor is making extensive consultations to make sure he carried every group along, including those who decamped from other political parties to work for his triumph, and even those who sabotaged their political parties and worked for his success secretly? Whatever be the reason why Okorocha has not arrived at those who will help him pilot the affairs of Imo State, he should hurry up because the State needs to wake up from its slumber. There is no way Imo State can function properly without a State Executive Council headed by the Governor. However, having wasted this long time in searching for his Commissioners and other appointees, Imo people would be disappointed if Okorocha presents them with a mediocre Executive. He has taken his time and therefore only the best is expected from him. In his first outing, Okorocha operated like an Administrator in a hurry, and therefore could not assemble what could pass as First Eleven State Executive in a State like Imo State that is brimming with tested Technocrats and Intellectual politicians of every hew. Imo populace forgave Okorocha in this folly because of two reasons; one, Okorocha had made Imo people believe that he was on a “rescue mission” and therefore would not seek for a second term, and was in a hurry to deliver the goods to the masses, and then move on to the next level and hand over Imo State to any of his stooges. Therefore, Imo people did not care about the character and pedigree of those he assembled as his Executive members, so as not to waste time for the messiah, who has just a few years to turn Imo State into an Utopian Society. Secondly, when Okorocha appeared on the Imo Governorship horizon in 2011, nobody gave him a chance to dislodge the behemoth, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, much more when the party had the incumbent Governor, in the person of Chief Ikedi Ohakim. Therefore, the Imo elites gave him no glance as they concentrated on the already existing status quo which was satisfying their needs in terms of funds through contracts and other goodies. Having seen that he was on his own, without support from the known political juggernauts in the State, Okorocha marshaled out his own “Army” and went to the battle front with the downtrodden, mostly Keke operators, Mechanics and other Artisans, who had felt ostracized from the PDP Government, which they saw as too elitist and conservative Group, that has no time for the poor people. It was this scenario that plunged Okorocha into the fray, and in the end he dismantled the massive PDP structure with what I call his “Rag-tag Army”. Therefore, having won the war and battle with these set of crowd, there is no way Okorocha could go looking for those to be made Commissioners elsewhere if not these people who stood behind him through the furnace. This was the reason Okorocha’s last Expanded State Executive Council was made up of new faces in Imo Political climate. Some of his former Commissioners and Special Advisers were not fit to head village meetings, much more head sophisticated and complicated Ministries and Parastatals where they need to burn the midnight candles and exert their mental prowess on how to make impact in their Departments and affect the lives of Imo people in the positive. I believe that it was the dearth of qualified man-power that Okorocha appointed a certain Commissioner who spoke through both sides of his mouth. While his Principal was on the Radio saying one thing, he would be at the same time addressing the press saying an entirely different thing. This Commissioner once said Imo Government under Okorocha does not owe anybody a kobo. That was ridiculous. Even America is a debtor nation. Therefore governance is a serious business, and such gaffes portray the administration as being confused, unserious and not in synergy with its officers. This time the Governor should select only those who are out to make positive marks on Imo people. Even if the slot of Commissionership is to compensate those who worked for him, Okorocha should endeavor to appoint only those qualified for the job; both academically and mentally. If the Governor wants to carry all the Local Government Areas in the State along, he could still get those loyal to him with qualified pedigree. There are many positions to “Settle” those loyal to him who cannot read or write. It is unheard of anywhere in Nigeria except in Imo State where a fellow who has no First School Living Certificate or West African Examination Council, WAEC will sit in an State Executive Council meeting of a State and argue with fellow Commissioners that have Degrees in different fields, with the Governor in charge as the State Chief Executive. What would such a fellow bring to the market of such intellectual gathering? I have had the opportunity to witness a State Executive Council Meeting in progress, presided over by a Governor, with only the Commissioners in attendance (not Expended Exco with SA, SSA, etc) In such meetings it was usually like an Intellectual harvest of Professors. A serious business, as all the Commissioners arrive early, go inside the Executive Chamber and sit down like students preparing for a final year Degree examination, with all of them buried in the documents in front of them. Such meetings last for hours, and end with most of them including the Governor loosening their ties and heading straight to the dining room, after a hectic deliberation that tasked all of them. The State Executive Council is the highest level of Governance, where the best are assembled to put their expertise to the disposal of the Chief Executive who taps on the energy of this egg heads to develop the State. It is not a place for touts, miscreants, and drop-outs whose only qualification is that they are relatives or loyalists of a Governor. However, the Governor is free to appoint his/her relations to such positions, provided they are qualified and fit to live up to the intellectual expectation which such positions demand. The world is at the disposal of Governor Rochas Okorocha now to poach any son or daughter of Imo State wherever such persons could be found to move the State to another level. If the State Executive Council achieves much, it is to the credit of the Chief Executive, as he is the Leader of the team. Who remembers Sam Mbakwe’s Commissioners today? But his name remains a currency in Imo. I know what it took one former Governor of Imo State to bring home Dr Aloy Aguwa from United States of America USA. Aguwa who is now late, was an Environmental guru, who was working for United Nations Organization UNO at that time. It was the late Aguwa who designed the Environmental Revolution of one past administration in Imo. In order words as, much as Okorocha is now in a sort of quagmire on how to please all those who worked to “deliver him” for a second term, he should tell them to make available to him men and women who are qualified for the task they will encounter in their offices. He should not allow any person or group to give him a list of appointees whose only qualification is that they are sons, daughters, in-laws or political Aides of these politicians who worked for him in 2015. Many believe that Okorocha will accept names from the likes of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, Chief Charles (Chalvon)Amadi of OZOPOLF. He may also appoint or give slots to people like Chief Rex Anunobi,Bar Steve Asimobi, etc. We know also that there are people who secretly worked for Okorocha he would like to compensate without making their names open. Apart from qualification, political Groups, and party leanings, there are expectations that Okorocha will remember some of the LGAs who were left out in his first term. The unwritten law in Imo has remained that the LGA from where the Governor emerged has no need for a Commissioner, because the position of a Governor is much more than four Commissioners put together. Again, there are some LGAs where Okorocha posted poor results during the election. Will he remember such LGAs in equal terms with those where he swept the pools? How many Commissioners would Okorocha appoint this time to deliver the goods, and at the same time accommodate various political Cells in the State? It will make more impact if the Governor looks for a resourceful, compact and productive personnel that will run the engine of the State than what obtained in 2011 when he appointed a plethora of Aides that were confused on what to do, as they were in disarray from the beginning, because of the number of Okorocha Commissioners and other Aides. There would be no need to duplicate offices this time cash is scarce. Therefore, a situation where a Ministry like Education was split into Secondary and Primary, with two Commissioners, was simply to create jobs for the “Boys”, but not to develop Imo State and Education. Indeed, it is usually good to send appointees to the areas they can capably manage, even though every Graduate can attempt to fit into any position. But it is certain that a Medical Doctor will always do better in Ministry of Health than a Professor of Communication Arts. Therefore, since Okorocha likes road Construction which many see as his focal thrust, he should look for a qualified Engineer to man the Ministry of Works. This is because such a person would endeavor to make sure that Imo people get value for the roads Government spent money on. A qualified Engineer cannot be fooled the way Jpross fooled the former Commissioner for Works and jetted out with Imo Tax payers money till date, after leaving behind uncompleted inferior Road projects that have turned out to be curse than a blessing to Imo people. It is usually good to put a round peg in a round hole! When a Carpenter sows a cloth for you just because he is your brother, you should imagine how it would fit you. In order words, it is pertinent that those Ministries that deserve professional hands should be left in the hands of such persons, Example; Education, Lands, Health, Works and Information. There are some Ministries that do not need their Commissioners to learn on the Job. Imo people are waiting for Gov. Okorocha to submit the list of his Commissioners. It will tell if the Governor has learnt from his past mistakes, or if he is for another experiment in 2015. President Mohammadu Buhari said he will appoint his Ministers in September. Imo State is not Federal Republic of Nigeria. Let Okorocha unveil his Appointees. http://www.imotrumpeta.com/?p=14795 |

Glimmer of hope for forgotten Enyimba Hotel 0 By Our Reporter on July 22, 2015 Oriental News …As state govt gives illegal occupiers quit notice From OKEY SAMPSON, Aba Are you looking for a place where human beings struggle with rodents for accommodation? If so, travel to Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State and take a ride to the abandoned Enyimba Hotel located by the side of the Aba River, a few metres from the city’s main motor park. For those who may not know, Enyimba Hotel was built by the late Dr Sam Mbakwe administration over 30 years ago, the foundation stone haven been laid shortly before that of Concord Hotel, Owerri. While Concord, a three-star hotel like Enyimba Hotel is still bubbling with activities year in year out, churning out revenue for the Imo State government, Enyimba Hotel is standing as a wasted edifice and free abode for policemen and rodents. Despite the fact that some policemen and members of their families reside inside the abandoned hotel, grasses and weeds have taken over the expansive compound housing the six-storey three-star hotel. Added to this development is that fact that relations of the policemen leaving inside the hotel have also converted the compound into car parks, kiosks and shops. To be precise, Enyimba Hotel’s foundation stone was laid by Dr Mbakwe in 1979 before the administration was booted out by the General Muhammadu Buhari-led military junta in 1983, and then the main building had been completed but without furniture and fittings. But this gigantic edifice that could have added to the aesthetics of the Enyimba City, as well as boost the internally generated revenue of the state has been lying fallow, and serving as a hideout for Indian hemp smokers before mobile policemen affected by inadequate accommodation illegally took over the premises. A visit to the expansive compound lying beside the waterside river showed that the adjoining buildings which appeared to be the staff quarters were yet to be completed, while its surroundings had been taken over by overgrown weeds and thick bushes. Speaking to Oriental News, a resident of an adjoining street to the hotel, Mr Azubuike Nweze, who claimed to have witnessed the foundation stone laying ceremony of the edifice, lamented that the hotel which he said would have been a major revenue earner for the government, as well as a source of employment and relaxation to the people of the city has been allowed to lie waste. While commending Mbakwe for his vision in siting industries and hotels across the old Imo State which now comprises Abia, Imo and the Afikpo bloc in Ebonyi State, he, however, expressed some reservations that Enyimba Hotel was abandoned in preference to the completion of Concord Hotel in Owerri. His words: “It is unfortunate that Enyimba Hotel has been abandoned by successive governments after being also abandoned by the Mbakwe administration in preference to the completion of the Concord Hotel in Owerri, Imo State. “It was built by Governor Sam Mbakwe, but it is regrettable succeeding administrations have not found it worthy to complete the hotel which would be a major revenue earner for the state. Look at the scenery situation beside the Ogbor Hill River, it can serve as a tourist centre attraction and you know what that means. Governor Sam Mbakwe’s vision of siting industries across the then old Imo State is commendable. He laid the foundation stone of Enyimba Hotel which was started before Concord Hotel in Owerri, but he completed Concord Hotel. The Abia State government should make haste to complete the abandoned hotel.” It was in the midst of the abandonment of such edifice that some policemen who were hit by accommodation problem converted the hotel to their quarters and due to the unkempt nature of the place, rodents also found some spaces in the hotel, co-habiting and finding the police as their good ‘friends’. However, this co-habitation has got an expiring date as the current government in Abia has given the ‘occupiers’ of the hotel quit notice. In a statement released in Umuahia, the government said it was giving those living in the hotel two weeks to quit or they would be forcefully evicted. The government’s action it was gathered was to re-acquire the hotel, rehabilitate and put it into proper use. Residents have applauded the government’s move, describing it as the right step in the right direction. They contended that since the hotel was among the projects to which the Mbakwe administration borrowed substantially to build and to which successive governments in the state laboured to pay back, that everything possible should be done to ensure that the hotel comes on stream for the state to recoup the money it spent in building it and then serve as a source of avenue for IGR for the state. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/glimmer-of-hope-for-forgotten-enyimba-hotel/ |
NAHCO commences cargo operations at Enugu Airport July 21, 2015 | Filed under: Markets | Author: Sade Williams 4 Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (Nahco aviance) has commenced full cargo operations at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. Chinwe Chiji-Nnorom, chief financial officer of the company, who spoke for Norbert Bielderman, CEO, who is on vacation, said the opening of the two warehouses, one within the airport, and the other a few metres from the airport, would further enhance the development of the air cargo business in the South East, and the country as a whole. Bielderman had only few weeks ago inspected the warehouses where he directed that it must start full operations before he embarked on his vacation. He also used the visit to meet with the Customs hierarchy at the Enugu Area Command where the modalities for effective cargo operations were agreed upon. But speaking in Lagos, Chiji-Nnorom said the opening of the Enugu warehouses was a major milestone for the company in its determination to ensure that the economy of Nigeria was further developed through the development of other airports in the country outside of Lagos Airport. The same excellent services Nahco aviance is known for in Lagos would be available for all users of the company’s services at the Enugu Airport, she assured. “Nahco aviance would not rest on its oars in its continued efforts at providing excellent services to its clients whether in Lagos, which is our West Africa hub, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Owerri or Enugu,” she said. NERC, BPE, Validate Rights of Geometric over Aba Disco July 21, 2015 | Filed under: Exclusive, main story | Author: Editor 6 The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) have both validated the rights of `Geometric Power Aba Limited, to generate, transmit and distribute power to and within the Aba and Ariaria districts in Abia State. This is coming amidst an unrelenting ploy by another firm, Interstate Electrics, to ensure that Geometric is shut out of the area in which it has already invested over $500 million (five hundred million dollars) in building a 200 megawatts power plant. Interstate, which acquired the Enugu Distribution Company in the last privatisation exercise has consistently ignored existing agreements between the Federal Government and Geometric, vesting on the latter, the rights to generate and distribute power in Aba unhindered. In a letter reference number NERC/01/CH/SEC/13/305 and signed by chairman Sam Amadi, NERC said, “it is important to reiterate for the benefit of doubt, the existence of a legally valid and binding lease agreement dated April 28, 2005 between the Federal Government of Nigeria, Geometric Power Aba Limited, Aba Power Ltd and PHCN. “While the encumberance on the property purchased by EEDC is unrelated to the issue of ownership of EEDC, Interstate Electrics as the new owner is legally bound to respect the lease agreement which it is inheriting along with the purchase of EEDC.” Geometric-power-plant In a similar statement, BPE which is charged with conducting the privatisation programme, also acknowledged that “Aba Power Limited (owned by Geometric) has a subsisting contract to generate, transmit and distribute power in the Aba and Ariaria districts of Enugu Disco for 20 years. We are not aware that Interstate has denied the existence of the lease agreement.” The recent crisis began when Geometric which is expected to turn on the lights at its Aba plant, successfully negotiated a N15bn investment deal to help mitigate the debt that has piled up as a result of delays in streaming the plant. Interstate surprisingly put out a public notice seeking to scare away investors from Geometric by asserting its rights over Aba in total disregard of the existing contracts and the recent ruling of aHigh Court which also validated Geometric’s lease agreement with the Federal Government. In a statement yesterday, and published in today’s BusinessDay, Geometric denounced the ploys by Interstate to continue to deny the people of Aba improved power supply by frustrating the take off of the Geometric plant. The company restated that the two rights it secured from the Federal Government in 2005, long before the privatisation of the Enugu Disco was contemplated, gives it a 20 year lease over the assets, as well as vesting on it the first right of purchase of the assets, should the Federal Government decide to sell. In attempts to resolve the long standing dispute between Geometric and Interstate, the Federal Government and its agencies set up eight committees at different times to study the matter and at the end of each of the work by the committees, Geometric’s rights were validated, but on each occasion, Interstate has ignored the recommendations of the committees. Former Vice President Namadi Sambo was fingered as using his office to perpetrate Interstate’s push to deny Geometric the chance to put on the lights in Aba and bring and end to the darkness in the region. A senior presidency official told BusinessDay last night that the Buhari administration was closely following the ugly developments in Aba and that it “will clean up the mess in a short time because the good people of Aba deserve better. We sense a form of economic sabotage in this. If a company with a legal contract is able to provide power to a people held down by darkness, why should any one attempt to stop it?” asked the official, speaking in Abuja on condition that he is not named. Former President Goodluck Jonathan received calls from well meaning Nigerians to ensure that he resolved the Geometric/Aba Power issue with Interstate Electric before leaving office on May 29, 2015. It will be recalled that the week preceding the presidential election, Jonathan visited the Aba Power plant and marveled at the huge investment made by Geometric Power. He said the problem was “man-made” and promised to resolve all the pending issues that have prevented Geometric Power/Aba Power Limited from turning on their plant that would have enabled the myriad of businesses and residents of Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, enjoy constant power supply. Jonathan admitted that “the Aba Power Project was well planned and would change the face of Aba in terms of power supply, especially as the city is highly industralised, with so many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that need stable power supply to grow better, and create more jobs for our people”. A number of Igbo groups had called on President Muhammad Buhari to promptly bring an end to the ploy by Interstate Electrics, owners of the Enugu Disco to shut down the Geometric power located in Aba http://businessdayonline.com/2015/07/nerc-bpe-validate-rights-of-geometric-over-aba-disco/#.Va6YyVOTM1J |
