Ibeto Cement in $390 million Deal with Chinese Firm

Ibeto Cement, a major cement importer, has signed a contract with a Chinese firm, Sinoma International Engineering, to build a $386 million cement plant in Enugu State.

The cement plant will have an installed capacity of 2.2 million metric tonnes of cement per year and would be completed in 30 months, according to a statement posted on the website of the Chinese firm today.

In June, the Central Bank of Nigeria announced the restriction of foreign exchange for the importation of certain goods, including cement. This measure, perhaps, forced Ibeto Cement to ramp up its local production.

In 2012, Ibeto Cement acquired majority shares in Nigeria Cement Company, a comatose cement-manufacturing firm located in Ebonyi State. But the state government shut down the plant, claiming that Ibeto Cement used the plant to acquire import licenses instead of resuscitating the plant.

With Ibeto’s new plant, Nigeria’s installed capacity is expected to rise above 40 million metric tonnes per year, far beyond the local annual consumption of over 20 million metric tonnes. Many cement plants in Nigeria operate below their installed capacities as a result of the rampant importation of cheap cement mainly from China, inadequate gas supplies to power cement plants and high haulage costs.

In September, Dangote Cement slashed its cement prices in an attempt to boost local consumption and compete with cheap imports. This move led to an industry-wide lowering of cement prices by cement companies to maintain market share. The cement industry in Nigeria is dominated by four companies: Dangote Cement, the market leader, Lafarge Africa, BUA Cement and Flour Mills of Nigeria.

Nigeria’s cement industry has benefited from the federal government’s backward integration policy, which was initiated in 2002 to encourage local production of cement. Since that time, more than $6 billion in capital projects have been launched.

With the Ibeto Cement deal, Sinoma Engineering has become a Chinese contractor of choice for most Nigerian cement companies. In August, Dangote Cement signed a $4.34 billion deal with the Chinese firm to build cement plants in 10 African countries and Nepal. In September, BUA Cement signed a $600 million deal to double the capacity of its cement plant in Obu, Edo State.

Relocation of Mechanics: Imo Govt Signs MoU with Avu Community

Imo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the people of Avu autonomous community in Owerri West council area of the state to give way for the relocation of mechanics to the area.
Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), Sir Jude Ejiogu who represented the state government during the signing of the MoU in his Cabinet Office, along Sam Mbakwe Road, Owerri on Monday, October 5th, 2015 commended the courage of Avu people for the dialogue, assuring them that government would do everything possible to make them benefit from the project.
According to Sir Ejiogu, government’s decision to build a permanent ultra modern mechanic village in Avu community was to make life meaningful for the people of the state, and as well decongest rate of human influx in the capital city thereby create job for the citizenry.
He therefore thanked them for their corporation, understanding and peaceful coordination they exhibited throughout the period of negotiation with the state government, pointing out that government would do a lot in return to appreciate their good gesture.
Speaking shortly after signing the MoU with the state government, Traditional Prime Minister of Avu autonomous community, Retired Major General Roland Ogbonna applauded the state government for actualizing the project that has lingered for several years, describing the present administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha as masses’ friendly.
General Ogbonna therefore commended the state government through the SGI, Sir Ejiogu for approaching the issue with vigour which according to him, was different from the actions of previous individuals who called on the community for the same purpose, but regretted that they were rejected by Avu people as a result of their bad approaches, while describing him as a man not only good in managerial assignment, but possesses the ability for sensitive task.
He assured the state government of their loyalty in ensuring that the project was accomplished, and pleaded with his people to rally support to the rescue mission administration of Governor Okorocha, while maintaining that Avu community would enjoy the project more than the government.

Why I Established Army Language Institute, by Ihejirika

Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Azubike Ihejirika has shed light on why he set up the Nigerian Army Language Institute (NALI) at Ovim in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State.

He said the NALI project was informed by the need for military men to learn other languages apart from English so they could communicate effectively with their counterparts from non-English-speaking countries.

Ovim was once renowned for the rail line which ran through the community, and later for the senior military officers who hailed from it.

General Ike Nwachukwu and Admiral Ndubisi Kanu hail from there, as do Col. Osondu and Ihejirika.

Kanu constructed a road from Isuikwuato to Uturu down to Okigwe through which he was coming home when he was the military governor of old Imo State.

Nwachukwu transferred the then Imo State University later known as Abia State University to its now permanent site at Uturu.

In 2012, Ihejirika established the Nigerian Army Language Institute at Ovim where soldiers and others could be trained in French language and other foreign languages to enable them communicate with their counterparts from non-English-speaking countries.

Gen Ihejirika from whose country home one could see clearly the language institute, said that nothing gives him joy like waking up every morning to have a view of the institute and prayed that the institute will live beyond the expectations of its founders.

In a chat with The Nation at his country home in Ovim while playing host to Col Marc Humbert the France Defence Attache to Nigeria, Gen Ihejirika said that he established the institute which is the first of its kind in Africa so that Nigerian soldiers on a peace mission will stop finding it difficult to communicate with their counterparts from other African countries.

Gen Ihejirika said that during his tenure as COAS he found out that Nigerian soldiers were not communicating fluently with their colleagues from neighbouring non-English-speaking countries.

He said that his first thought was to establish the institute so that Nigerian soldiers who are always on a peace mission will find it easy to communicate with other soldiers whenever they are on a peace mission, “Also bearing in mind that we are surrounded by French speaking African countries, there was this need for our soldiers to understand themselves whenever they are amongst their colleagues from other countries”.

The former COAS said that when the institute was established it was mainly for Nigerian soldiers to help their French-speaking neighbours during peace missions to understand themselves but now the reverse is the case as the French-speaking neighbours are now helping Nigeria in the war against insurgency.

Gen Ihejirika said, “When the institute was established it was to help our soldiers understand French language when on peace mission to other countries, now it has turn the other way round, as we need to speak and understand French as these French speaking countries are now in our country to help us fight insurgency”.

In his speech the French DA, Col. Humbert commended Gen Ihejirika for citing the institute at a serene place where students will come and study unhindered from distractions associated with urban areas, stressing that the environment will enable the students to assimilate the languages faster.

Speaking at the language institute, Humbert said that Nigeria and France are very close allies and that there is need for the Nigeria to educate its officers in French language.

Humbert who donated French books and other teaching aids to the army institute said that the close relationship between the two countries has made the embassy to donate the books to enable them face the challenges of language in future.

He described the institute as a place for the future and believed that it will grow to support the entire military force in its fight against all manner of terrorism and other forms of challenges in any part of the country.

The French DA noted that the success recorded at the institute, “Will help the Nigerian army to corporate with its French speaking neighbours in the current war against insurgency as they have formed an alliance to fight the terrorism war”.

He described Nigeria as a great country will huge potentials and backed with different communities, stressing that the beauty of the difference in culture and language is the unifying factor of the country.

Humbert said that the books are a token of their appreciation to the school and hope that it will help in training of soldiers, and also help in fostering good working relationship with other countries.

Receiving the books and other teaching materials, on behalf of the chief of army staff, the commandant of the institute, Col. Joseph Bamidele Ajanaku said that the materials will go a long way in helping the students.

Col. Ajanaku said that the school has just commenced with its first batch of 20 students who are doing the basic French course 1, stressing that the materials will help them to learn the language faster.

He said the institute started operation on August 1, adding,

“We intend to increase the languages to include, Swahili, Portuguese, German and Chinese languages as we are expanding towards these countries in bilateral relationship”.

Col Ajanaku said that with the establishment of the institute at Ovim that it has helped in no small way to fast track the development of the area, stressing that most of the senior officers who are coming to the place for the language training will spend their money around the area and also help to increase the economic activities in the area.

Okorocha Actualizing Industrialization Promise

The Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has commenced the implementation of his second-term campaign promise to industrialize the state and create jobs for unemployed youths.
Declaring open the Imo State government-sponsored Trade and Investment Forum at the Imo State Trade and Investment Centre complex, formerly Ahiajoku Convention Centre, New Owerri, Owelle Okorocha disclosed that his trips abroad aimed at attracting investors and industrialists to the state have started yielding concrete results, as the first set of investors have arrived the state to begin work on their projects.
Governor Okorocha identified some of the industrialists from abroad who were at the Imo Trade and Investment Forum to participate in the event to include Industrialists who are from South Korea who will develop the Oguta Blue Lake of Treasure into a world-class tourism complex and another team from that country which will build the towering 1000 apartment adjacent the Imo Trade and Investment Centre. He also named a team of Israelis who have arrived the state to remodel and upgrade the Avutu Poultry into a mega-poultry complex capable of attaining more than ten times its present production capacity, a team from England whose concentration will be to reconstruct the Fishing Farms in Onuimo into a multi-million Naira fish production complex and a sister team from the same country which will remodel and reactivate the Okigwe water complex to supply water to Okigwe zone and its environs, adding that the industrialists and investors were coming with their vehicles and equipment to enable them operate smoothly.
Others the governor identified among the participants at the forum were Vietnamese investment consortium who will transform the Imo Palm Plantation complex to a production capacity more than three times what it used to be and a South African team which will build community power plants to supply electricity to communities. Another South African team of investors now in the state will provide expert security services which will secure Imo State. A group of investors from India were also at the forum and was identified by Governor Okorocha as
industrialists that will establish vehicle assembly plants in the state, in addition to other investors who arrived the state from Turkey and China. Owelle Okorocha also introduced a prominent Nigerian industrialist and indigene of Imo State, Dr. Innocent Nzuma who will establish a 1,600 megawatt power plant to boost electricity supply in the state and had already built a power plant at Egbema. Governor Okorocha also announced that Shell Petroleum is building a 3.2 billion dollar gas plant at Assa Egbema. Owelle Okorocha recalled that in his first tenure in office he fulfilled his promise of free education programme and provided adequate health care facilities through the construction of 27 modern hospital complexes across the state and pledged to ensure that his 2015 election promise of industrializing the state and providing employment to the unemployed in the state is accomplished in like manner.
Owelle Okorocha who acknowledged the need for the private sector to assist his administration in industrializing the state described Imo as endowed with able-bodied men and women that would provide adequate manpower for the programme, arable and fertile land for agricultural projects and pledged enabling government commitment to ensure that the industrialization programme succeeds. He assured foreign and local investors that the state government will provide land, accommodation and transport in addition to assisting foreign investors in processing their residency visas and other immigration formalities to enable them establish in the state, and facilitate his programme of banishing poverty in the state. He described the convening of the Imo Trade and Investment Forum as the beginning of the journey to industrialize the state.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the Imo Trade and Investment Forum and indigene of the state, Dr. Nzuma Innocent said that with the enormous human and industrial potentials of the state, coupled with abundant natural resources and a very large market, Imo State would become the industrial pride of the South East. Dr. Nzuma advised Governor Okorocha to ensure that his administration provides the instruments and enabling environment to motivate.
Dr. Nzuma who is the Managing Director of Nzuma Group, Abuja said he had established one power plant in Egbema Imo State and ready to accomplish the installation of the 1,600 mega watt power generation plant in the state, adding that he will also venture in agro-business in partnership
with his Ukrainian counterparts. The Imo Trade and Investment Forum chairman called on all credible foreign and local investors to come and partner with Imo State government in its laudable industrialization programme which will grow the economy of the state and that of Nigeria at large and also facilitate meaningful provision of employment to youths in the state.
He said Imo State constitutes a large market because of its position as central link to Onitsha, Aba, Umuahia and Portharcourt and described the industrialization programme of Governor Okorocha as a great stride.
In a keynote address captioned, “Process for Trade and Investment in Imo State, the need for public-private-partnership,” the National President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Dr. Ray Jacobs regretted that previous government’s industrialization programmes could not succeed because of their failure to effectively involve the private sector in their implementation.
Dr. Jacobs stressed the need for the state government to provide credible and workable industrial blue-print that will ensure adequate participation of the private sector and ensure that corruption is reduced to the barest minimum, if the industrialization programme will succeed.
The MAN President who is an indigene of Mgbidi Imo State harped on the need for government to ensure adequate security and provide and equip all existing industrial estates with necessary infrastructure to attract foreign and local investors. He described the Igbo as a very industrious and hardworking people which is typical of the Imo man and stressed the need for the state government to encourage investors at all costs to help develop the state pointing out that many states in Nigeria have hundreds of industries.
A Senator and industrialist from Maryland, USA, Senator Charles Anthony Muse described Owelle Okorocha as blessed by God to do, exploit and accomplish landmark projects. He assured the Governor of the commitment of industrialists from the United States accomplishing his administration’s industrialization programme.
Adding his voice, the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Acho Ihim announced the commitment of the state legislators to foster rapid industrial development in the state and commended the state Governor Owelle Okorocha for his developmental strides.

2019: Araraume, Ihedioha Others Coming (11)

I started this piece last week with the emphatic statement that come 2019, the likes of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, His Excellency Chief Ikedi Ohakim and Senator Hope Uzodinma will not only be major players in the Imo Political space, but will fight over the Governorship position currently occupied now by Owelle Rochas Okorocha, who has completely disappointed Imo populace due to his model of Governance which has kept the state in motion since 2011, but without any movement.
Any doubt that Ihedioha, Araraume and Co will dominate Imo Politics in 2019 was dashed with the list of Ministers rolled out by President Mohammadu Buhari.
I made it clear that politics is like Football, where it takes time to groom stars. And the moment the old players begin to exhibit their qualities, it takes time before they are displaced by new players.
Take or leave it, the current politicians in Imo will continue to dictate the pace of things for a long time to come. How long did Senator Arthur Nzeribe dominate the politics of Nigeria, Imo and Orlu before the combined efforts of Chief Achike Udenwa and other Orlu politicians tamed the Ogbuagu.
Therefore, it is no question asking if Araraume will vie for Imo Governorship election again, same for Ihedioha and Ohakim. They will if not must.
What should be the issue is whether they will accomplish their ambitions to rule Imo State. Ohakim has, and his tenure was truncated. This leaves Ihedioha and Araraume as major contenders. But mostly Araraume, whose dreams of ruling Imo State has always come to grief at the last minutes.
Therefore when Araraume comes in 2019, he will be coming with alot of experience on how to safe guard his victory, right from the party primary level, to the main general election.
In 2007 he was the Governor in-waiting until his friend and in-law, His Excellency, Chief Achike Udenwa disappointed him and could not put to fruition the optimism that his inlaw will hand- over to him as his successor. Although many said it was not Udenwa’s fault because of pressure from different angles, but some still swear that Araraume would have hoisted PDP Governorship flag in 2007 if Udenwa had stood his ground.
Just last December when Araraume appeared as an Aspirant for Governorship under PDP, after he had just returned to the party from defunct ACN, many wondered what he was up to.
Surprisingly, in the end, if not for Emeka Ihedioha’s sagacity and dogged resilient, Araraume would have snatched the PDP Governorship ticket. He fought hard as usual, but the diadem escaped him again by the whiskers, reminding him of the 2007 debacle.
Therefore, as destiny beckons on Araraume again in 2019, the Lion of Ishiebu will not approach Imo Governorship seat with kid’s glove, even though he will subdue himself to all due processes to nick the Imo Governorship seat, because 2019 may be his last chance, as age is approaching.
But the important question should be, under what platform would Araraume execute his election then? Will it be APC, APGA, PDP or which party?
The answer is that Araraume will run for Imo Governorship race in either PDP or APC.
However, it is going to be a herculean task. But that will not be a matter, as Araraume has grown used to tough matters.
For those who may not have noticed, Araraume has begun preparing for 2019 election. His “Destiny Organization” has remained busy since. The Organization has busied itself with two major things that are inevitable in politics; money and contacts.
Araraume has since planted his trusted allies in various with elections, and therefore abandon their “structures” for their personal businesses till the next election year, Araraume’s politics commences after elections. He continues to oil his political machine at the period when many political leaders had shunned their followers to rue the Millions of Naira they had spent in primaries.
Don’t forget that while Araraume schemes to plant surrogates at the helm of Imo PDP, he would be doing the same in APC which Gov Okorocha has given him a foothold.
However, by now Okorocha may have been savouring with the delusion that he had tricked Araraume to dislodge PDP to the advantage of his second term election, and therefore can do with what he likes with Araraume.
That is where Owelle Okorocha got it wrong. Okorocha may have been appointing his Task Forces and Committees without any input from Araraume, whose Boys Okorocha have completely abandoned in his recent appointments. And till date, Araraume has not uttered a word in this direction. But the time of reckoning is forth coming when the Lion of Ishiebu will call on Okorocha to give account on his contributions to his 2015 election triumph.
It is going to be easier to Araraume since Okorocha will not be running for 2019 Imo Governorship. Certainly Okorocha would like to plant his stooge as successor, but that is where the trouble with Araraume will start. It was on the grape vine that one of the conditions for Araraume to join Okorocha train was his 2019 Governorship ticket.
If that is true, Okorocha will realize that Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Araraume is not Chief Martin Agbaso.
In 2010, Martin Agbaso and Owelle Okorocha had struck a deal that Okorocha will hand over to him after one term. Martin therefore planted his younger brother, Chief Jude Agbaso to act as his Sheriff on Owelle Okorocha while the regime lasted. But Okorocha had other ideas and Jude Agbaso had to give way for Okorocha to complete Eight years in Office without interruption.
But Araraume will be a tough nut for Okorocha to crack without sweat, because when two male Tigers clash, the calamity will be unimaginable.
For Emeka Ihedioha, he will be there in 2019. He has ample chances because his structure will still remain fresh, s and favours to dish out like the last time, because having left his plum office as the Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives will reduce his propensity to dispense favours.he touched every strata of Imo politics by dishing out helps across the State. There is no part of Imo State that was not adequately represented in Ihedioha’s Train. He lifted many abandoned old politicians who many thought had waved final goodbye to cosy living.
Many forgotten Ex State and National Lawmakers, past Government Appointees, finished Contractors, obselete Traditional Rulers, moribund Youth Leaders, including frustrated hangers-on were restituted by Emeka Ihedioha.
I know many people today who would have been nothing, if they had been alive today, if not for Ihedioha’s magnanimity. Whether these people will remember in the long term is their own problem.
That Emeka Ihedioha lost Imo Governorship election was not exclusively his personal fault but because of accumulated factors in his political party, PDP; a political party that can be linkened to Crocodile.
Crocodile eats its young ones when it is hungry, only to begin to look for them after it had assuaged its hunger.
Imo PDP is like a group of ambitious fellows who found themselves in a hole. But rather than form a chain to swing out one of them to go out and find a Ladder for others, they will all resort to individual efforts to climb out singly, and in the process all of them remain in the hole.
Why has PDP lost all Governorship elections in Imo State after Achike Udenwa in 1999-2007? Sabotage. Greed. Envy. Ambition. At the crucial time, each of the Leaders will have an excuse not to support the party’s flag bearer, but instead join opposition candidate.
Owerri Zone is by now rueing why it could not support her son, Emeka Ihedioha. Yet Ihedioha has no political future without his people; Owerri Zone.
Therefore, he should forgive them and reconcile with even those who worked for his failure. What the outing has done to him is to acquire more experience in politics and human Psychology. Was it a surprise that some people making a living out Ihedioha’s magnanity, whom he made sure their names appeared on the Imo PDP Delegate lists, voted for his opponents in the primaries? Yet they feed from Ihedioha. Human begins are wicked. Even God Knows that.
Whatever are the short-comings and disappointments, Ihedioha will come in 2019. Age is on his side and he has the capacity to continue the ambition.
The problem Ihedioha will encounter is the battle for his party’s ticket if he wants to run for Governorship. Whether PDP will make impact is not in doubt. The only stumbling block is if the party has learnt its lessons.
Already, the current APC administration led by Okorocha has shored up the chances of any other serious political party in the State. Even though things may change before 2019, but it will not be for the better for the simply reason that Okorocha has made up his mind that Imo people did not vote for him in 2015 even though he won the election and has resolved to pay them back in their own coins.
For sure, if Imo PDP voted for him, why would Emeka Ihedioha stretch him to the limit with a re- run election that tasked him both mentally and financially to wriggle out?
So, one of the reasons for which Okorocha is punishing Imo people today is because of Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha. He knows Imo voted for Ihedioha. So, it is left for Ihedioha to do what he can to remain in the psyche of Imo people till 2019.
2019 may look far, yet is close for a serious politician with pending ambitions. Can Ihedioha retain his “men” till 2019 elections? It requires a Philanthropic heart to continue to give, and strong mind to make sacrifices and enduring focus to win a marathon race. Has Ihedioha all these? Days ahead will task him, but he must not fall over-board.

The information I keep getting about this area is encouraging, better buy your own plots before any good things start to unfold here. If the government ever start to work on this road, the prices of lands here will move up, and many of us might not buy again.

I am sure that if a good road is started here, the average cost per plot will jump to about N3,000,000.00

The management of KRISORAL and Company Limited, manufacturers of Roll-Over-Pilfer-Proof (ROPP) and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) closures in Nigeria, says it has increased capacities of its plants from 2 billion caps per annum to 4 billion caps per annum; an increase of 100 percent.

Oranu Chris Chidume, Group Managing Director, KRISORAL Group of Companies, promoters of the firm, who revealed this at the weekend, while hosting the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnayelugo Nnaemeka Achebe, who was on tour of the facility also explained that KRISORAL and Company Limited, a member of KRISORAL Group of companies, produces ROPP caps of different dimensions, High Density Polyethylene caps which comes in carbonated or non carbonated forms; printed or plain of different colours and in the sizes of 28mm, 30mm and 41.5mm. Our other products are Drug Dispensing Cups, PVC Shrink Labels…

It is the first indigenous company in Nigeria, to have full process of ROPP cap and the only company today that has top and side embossments technology, a development he said many people are not aware of.

Chidume further explained that the capacities of the two plants as at 2012 were about 2 billion caps per annum, which has now been upgraded to about 4 billion caps per annum, stressing that a lot of expansion has occurred between 2012, the year they were commissioned and now-2015. These capacities are enough to relieve companies in Nigeria, especially Pharmaceutical and Beverage companies of the rigours and stresses of importing same closures from overseas.

Poultry farmers smile as Gov. Ugwuanyi commissions hatchery

For poultry farmers in Enugu State and the South-East region – their major headache – travelling far distances to get day-old chicks has been completely cured.
Before now, the farmers had relied on hatcheries in the South-West and other regions of the country for their farms.
But last week, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and other relevant stakeholders officially commissioned the ultra-modern Animal Health Farms and Hatcheries, a privately-owned hatchery built in partnership with the state government through the Commercial Agricultural Development Project (CADP) and the World Bank.
The commissioning of the hatchery has seen poultry farmers in the region now heaving a sigh of relief.
This is as the hatchery, which is capable of producing 30,000 eggs in a week, would reduce the hardship experienced by poultry farmers in the state and the South-East geo-political zone in travelling far distances to buy day-old chicks from other regions.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony and first roll out of Day-Old Chicks (DOCs) of the hatchery, Ugwuanyi commended the establishment, describing it as a laudable gesture which would greatly enhance poultry farming in the state.
The governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Mike Eneh, noted that aside relieving poultry farmers in the state of the stress of going to the South-West to procure DOCs, the hatchery would also help in providing jobs for the teeming youths of the state.
His words: “This is the second hatchery in the South-East and also in South-South and from what we have seen so far, I think people from Kaduna and Kano also take their own chicks from this direction. Apart from reducing the stress witnessed while going to buy DOCs from outside the state and the risk of transporting them, another thing it did was that it reduced the cost of day-old chicks from 250 to about 180. So, we are quite delighted. We thank the World Bank and commercial agriculture project for their support in this too.
“Initially, poultry was nothing in Enugu. But thank God that today, it has grown in leaps and bounds, being the fourth in the country and second in the South-East and South-South. Last year, I recall that the net addition of the poultry industry, outside hatchery, to the economy of Enugu State is about 1.48 billion. The reason is simple; Enugu has one of the best weather conditions for poultry industry in Nigeria. So, we hope to invest more in poultry production in the near future.”
The governor also disclosed the state government’s plan to initiate policies aimed at the overall development of other areas of farming such as cashew production.
According to him, “Enugu State has one of the best cashews in the world in terms of quality. There are two important things we need to do. One is the aggregation center which we proposed to build in Obollo Afor and the second thing concerns geo-products.”
He said that he would “support any community that is willing to give us land, so that we can train these farmers, give them seedlings so that they can plough them in five hectares as an enterprise and also create jobs”.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of CADP, Dr Babandi Amin, praised the management of the company for deeming it fit to establish the hatchery, pointing out that it would go a long way in boosting poultry farming not only in the state but also in the entire country.
Dr Amin harped on the need to sustain the venture, saying that the issue was not really on establishment but in making efforts to sustain what was already on ground.
“We should also be looking at the results we are getting. Are the results commensurate with the inputs we are making or are they below the expectations? We should also look at the demand of poultry in the state and be able to determine whether what we have on ground already is meeting these demands or not. It is when these things are considered that we will be able to say we are reaching our goals of making these poultry products available to our people accordingly,” he said.
Also speaking, the Manager, Animal Health Farms and Hatcheries, Dr Benjamin Oguejiofor, explained that part of why the hatchery was established was to compensate for the treatment meted to day-old chicks distributors, especially those from the South Eastern part of the country by already existing hatcheries that are mostly located in the South-West.
He noted that due to the fact that over 80 per cent of the hatcheries in the country are located in the South-West, people from the state while going to purchase DOCs, usually involve in great risks which he listed as threat to lives occasioned by night travels, exposure to armed robbery, road accidents, chick mortalities, among others.
According to him, the vision of setting up the hatchery was actualized with the emergence of the state Commercial Agriculture Development Project (CADP), which he said has played a great role to seeing that the hatchery was established.
“The success story of CADP intervention is why we are here today, to celebrate dream come true”, he said.
While pointing out that the hatchery has a total egg capacity for 95,040 with a multi-stage setter capable of handling 30,000 eggs every week, Dr Oguejiofor expressed hope that the hatchery would not only provide poultry farmers in the state with quality and viable day-old chicks, but would also provide over 100 jobs mostly to natives of Enugu State and others by extension.
He, therefore, called on the state government and other relevant stakeholders in the state to key into the idea of improved poultry production in the state, adding that “if we are able to improve on the little we already have now, Enugu State will soon emerge as one of the best states in terms of poultry production”.
Also commenting, the state Coordinator of CADP, Mr Robinson Nduaguba, expressed optimism that the hatchery was a sign of more good things for farmers in the state, adding that “this is a form of provocation to the youths in Enugu State to go into a project that will keep them very busy and make the state to be a food security zone.
“I know that Enugu State is already creating an enabling environment for private sector investors and the example shown by this establishment is quite challenging. We will do everything possible to make sure that this establishment doesn’t relax. Instead, it will continue to improve and by so doing meet the expectations of our people.”

Anambra, FG Partner On Automobile Project

Anambra State is on the verge of partnering with the Federal Government and National Automobile Council for establishment an automobile firm at Akwa-Ihedi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.

The State government met with some select traditional rulers in the state at Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area headquarters, where grey areas were ironed out as they pledged their cooperation for the project to go on unhindered.

At the end of the closed-door meeting, Igwe Nnabuife of Isseke stated that the meeting ended peacefully following the clarification of some perceived misconceptions that some agents of the state government were frustrating the take-off of the project.

The royal fathers, according to Nnabuife agreed on four plans with the government and investors namely: that the state government through ANSIPPA should prepare a Letter of Offer to NAC and invite it to come for negotiation preparatory to the commencement of the project on or before Monday, October 5, 2015; and that the Memorandum of Understanding would be based on same template of locating the project.

Again, he said that the meeting agreed that the project would remain at Akwa-Ihedi in addition to provision of significant jobs to youths of Anambra State including those of Akwa-ihedi.

Giving insight into the meeting, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Investment Promotion Agency (ANSIPPA), Billy Chief Ekwunife, explained that the land earmarked for the project would be acquired by the state government and given to the Federal Government under the Anambra /ANSIPPA – Investor Structured Investment Protection ratio.

Ekwunife, who was accompanied by a representative of the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Town Planning, disclosed that a timeframe would be given to the investors to embark on the project, failing which he said the land would be returned to the original owners (Akwa-Ihedi).

He assured the monarchs that he would briefed the governor of the State, Chief Willy Obiano on the development, stressing that more efforts would be made to speed up the process so that the project would not be transferred out of Anambra State.

Ogun State Police Command Showcase Harvest of Criminal Arrests

Ogun State Police Command on Thursday showcased a harvest of arrested suspects, with twenty of them paraded at its Eleweran Headquarters, Abeokuta over various offences which include armed robbery, kidnapping, murder and cultism.

The Commissioner of Police, Valentine Ntomchukwu while parading the suspects said the arrest covers a period of three months, adding that the achievements were a commitment to making sure that the command succeeds in its war against crimes.

He gave a breakdown of the arrests which include; Cultism/Murder as fifteen, Kidnappers as three, and armed robbery as four, adding that a number of exhibits were also recovered including a Toyota Highlander SUV, Five mobile phones, live cartridges, one cut to size barrel gun, one berretta pistol with serial number defaced, one locally made single barrel pistol, assorted charms, one sword and two locally made guns.

"Today the command is disposed to showcase to the whole world its modest achievements in curbing cultism and other criminalities in the state. The command will forever be grateful to all law abiding members of the public for supporting the intelligence-driven and people-oriented policing in Ogun State," he said.

"I want to appreciate the good people of Ogun State for your support and commitment in making sure the command succeeds in its war against cultism and violent crimes in Ogun State," Ntomchukwu emphasized.

He further added that, the public should always have confidence in the command, just as he declared and assured that, the era of judicial killings is gone, but also declared that criminals will not be given a breathing space in the state.

The Commissioner gave identities of the cultism and murder suspects to include among others[b]; Gbenga Adeoye, Ifaseyi Adeoye, Animashaun Oluwafemi, Tosin Lanlege, Opeyemi Ogunnowo, Moses Akinniyi, Oluwaseun Dalamu, Ahmed Idowu, Dare Alaba, Azeez Alimi, Biodun Yinusa, Muba Salimi, Sunday Folorunsho, Ovie Konjo and Dare Adeoye.[/b]

The kidnapping suspects were identified as Oluyeye Akintunde and Samuel Adewunmi, while those arrested in connection with armed robbery are; Azeez Omotosho, Ibrahim Yusuf and Jimoh Quadri. He said, upon completion of investigations, suspects would be charged to court.

Ntomchukwu also gave kudos to the family of the kidnapped victims for cooperating with the police, in ensuring that, the suspects were tracked down, stressing that, it was their confidence that made it possible for the police to crack the devilish kidnappers who had been on the prowl in the state.

"Where victims family rushes to pay ransom, the police will not be able to help, and the crime remains unsolved. It is the determination of the state police command to sustain this fight until all kidnappers and cultists are completely routed," the police boss said.
