Charly boy meets with Governor Okorocha at Government House

Charles Oputa (a.k.a.) Charly Boy and governor Rochas Okorocha have met at the Governemnt House Owerri, and for the first time after the incident that took place during the burial service of Charly Boy’s father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa at Oguta LGA.

In his speech, Charly Boy told the Governor that he was at the Government House to inform him about their plan to hold the first Igbo Carnival titled “Njiko Carnival”, and that the event would take place at Oguta Local Government Area because of its tourist potentials.

Mr. Oputa also told the governor that the cultural event would involve all the Igbo speaking states adding that the essence of the event would be to unite the Igbo race and also save Igbo language from dying, stating too that the ceremony would have nothing to do with politics.

According to Charly Boy, the cultural event would boost the entertainment industry in the state and appealed to the governor to allow them make full use of Oguta Motel for the event, and also donate buses to them that could be branded for the event.

In his speech, Governor Okorocha assured them of the full support of his administration for the ceremony and on the spot, granted Mr. Oputa’s request for Oguta Motel, and also said he would give them five branded buses to convey people, and would also provide them with twenty-five traditional dances.

Governor Okorocha also said that his government would partner any group keen in the promotion of the Igbo language and culture, because, according to him when people lose their culture they have lost their identity, describing the idea of organizing cultural carnival as timely because the state equally has the plan of hosting Imo Stars in the entertainment industry and is also planning a carnival.

He commended Mr. Oputa and his group for showing interest in promoting Igbo language and culture

Ebonyi govt. to partner with Ibeto group to revitalize NIGERCEM
on: December 05, 2015

Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi said the state government would negotiation with the Ibeto Group of Companies to revitalize the moribund Nigerian Cement Company (NIGERCEM), Nkalagu.
Umahi made the disclosure on Friday in Abakaliki at the inauguration of the reconstruction of the 15.5 km Umuhuali-Nkalagu-NIGERCEM road which links Ehamufu in Enugu state.
According to the governor, the chairman of state committee on cement production has been given up till Dec. 7 to conclude all negotiations with Ibeto Group.
“This will be followed by the signing of the necessary agreements which will protect the rights of the indigenes, host local government area and the state government.
“We will not accept any negotiation that will not cover the revitalization of NIGERCEM, because it will extend to the schools, hospitals and other infrastructure in the vicinity,” he said.
The governor directed the LGA caretaker chairmen in the central senatorial zone to be involved in the supervision of the road and report daily on the progress of work to him.
“You should also ensure that four engineers (three civil and one mechanical) are attached to the contractor – China Zunghaoi – to get the necessary experience and establish themselves,” he said.
The governor, who also inaugurated the multimillion naira, 23.7km Hillto/Nwofe/Agbaja road, noted that the reconstruction was to honor the speaker of the state House of Assembly for his support to the executive arm of government.
“We also want to honor Izzi people who gave us large percentage of votes during the elections despite several distractions,” he said.
He urged the people to cooperate with the contractor to ensure that the road was completed on time while meeting all stipulated standards.
The state’s Commissioner for Works, Mr Fidelis Nweze, noted that the Umuhuali-Nkalagu road received government’s attention 52 years ago, leading to establishment of NIGERCEM company.
“The road also connects Ebonyi to Enugu and the Northern parts of the country. Its deplorable condition has greatly affected business and social activities in the area,” he said.
The commissioner also noted that the Hilltop-Nwofe road had not received any government’s attention for many decades now.
“The state governor should be highly commended for reconstructing this road as I will enhance the economic and social wellbeing of the people and generally develop the state,” he said.
The governor also inaugurated the reconstruction of the 23.5km Amasairi-Okposi-Uburu road as all the roads cut across the three senatorial zones of the state.
He also inspected the rehabilitation of the Abakaliki-Afikpo federal highway failed portion being undertaken by the state government, among other roads across the state.
The foremost cement company in the country became moribund since 2005 leading to the cannibalization of its facilities. The situation also led to the death and displacement of several staff due to accumulation of owed entitlements. NAN

Hongxing Steel Invest $120 Million to Build 1 Million Tons Per Annum Steel Plant in Aba, Abia State

What is the Profile of your company?

First, let me do the introduction of this company. Hongxing was incorporated in 2008 and we started production in 2009. When we started, we were a small manufacturing company with 100 staff, and with years of development, the company has made a lot of progress and today we are one of the most important players in Nigeria’s steel industry. Right now, our Nigerian staff are numbering well over 700 direct employees and indirectly, we have created jobs in the haulage and scrap industry.

Do you think local producers can meet demands in Nigeria?

Yes, like I said, in terms of quantity, the supply is more than the demand. And in terms of quality, our products are competitive than imported ones because they are certified by SON. We have the capacity meet whatever the market demands. Like I stated, earlier, we are expanding and hopefully, by April next year, we will commission our Aba plants which will be the biggest steel plants in West Africa. Our capacity is increasing but our output is decreasing because demand is not picking enough. Nigeria is an emerging market compared to what China consumers annually, it is very small. With the coming on stream of Nigeria automotive industry, demand for steel products will go because they also use a lot of steel products.

How much have you invested in your project in Aba?

Right now we have invested $50 million dollars but by the time it is completed, the total cost will be well over $120 million. If you are investing this kind of money in the economy, certainly, we are here to stay and not running away from the country. The production line is designed for 1 million tonnages per annum. The plant will also produce other steel products; we are targeting exportation to other countries in Africa which will generate foreign exchange. We believe we would have exhausted the Nigeria market at the time and when the Aba plant is completed and running it will be biggest steel plant in West Africa, and with the economy of scale, we should be able to produce cheaper for West Africa, and with the economy of scale, we should be able to produce cheaper for West African countries.

Why did you go to Aba?

We went to Aba for so many reasons: the land we acquired took us less than one month to get the Certificate of Occupancy, C of O, and we are talking about space, I am not sure we can get enough of that kind of space in Lagos. The factory in Aba is sitting on over 100 hectares of land.

What opportunities did you see in Nigeria and how can governments help you stay in business?

The opportunities I see in Nigeria are the huge consumer markets-it is the most populous country on this continent and we believe in China that Africa is the next future. Second, this country is developing. Last year, Nigeria overtook South Africa as the largest economy in this continent. Government should help us to have cheap access to facilities. They have one for the agricultural sector and we need such in the manufacturing sector. There is a manufacturing sector. There is a CBN facility called Real Sector Supporting Fund, RSSF, but actually, the policy backing in makes it not accessible, so, we want government to make it easy for us to access cheaper loans for expansion.

Abia Ceramics Firm to be Revamped Soon
By Steve Oko On 03/12/2015 04:38:10 AM

The Commissioner for Industries, Abia State, Chief Henry Ikoh, has assured that the moribund Abia Ceramics Industry Umuahia, would soon be revamped.

Ikoh who gave the assurance when he visited the factory site yesterday, said the state government was intensifying efforts with the core investor - the Catholic Church - to put the once famous factory back on steam.

"Abia Ceramics must work again", Ikoh who is also an industrialist declared.

He said a meeting with the management of the factory and government had been scheduled to fine- tune modalities on the revitalization of the once highest employer of labour in the capital city.

Acting Manager of the factory, Rev. Friday Elias, said the management had engaged "serious minded and proactive Chinese who were expected to bring in new machines and equipment in two weeks to resuscitate the factory.

He said that the factory could no longer operate with its obsolete machines installed by the Germans, hence the new arrangement with the Chinese whom he expressed optimism would help revive the place.

The cleric applauded the willingness of the state government in rejuvenating the factory and expressed the readiness of the core investor to make the place work again.

In a related development Ikoh has assured traders and mechanics at the Ohiya Motor Spare Parts and Allied Workers Market of government's determination to put facilities that would boost their businesses at the Mechanic Village.

The Commissioner who stated this during a visit to the mechanic village, also assured them that government would expand the village to accommodate other auto spare part dealers still operating in different parts of the Umuahia metropolis.

He assured that as soon as more shops were erected in the market, every auto spare parts dealer still operating outside the mechanic village would be ejected and relocated to the village.

Ikoh who said the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu - led administration was in a hurry to develop the state from all frontiers urged the traders to complement government's efforts by remaining peaceful and law- abiding.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of Traders Association in the market, Mr. Ugochukwu Efem, identified the continued stay of some auto spare parts dealers on the streets in the metropolis as the major challenge of traders in the new market.

He said that the development had resulted in low patronage for the few traders who had complied with government's directives for traders to relocate to the mechanic village.

Also, the Chairman of Auto Mechanics Association, Mr. Sylvester Egwu, pleaded with government to provide them with more facilities in the mechanic village.

THE TRUTH IS BITTER !!! If Mohammed Yusuf was not killed the issue of boko haram would not be a serious one; but today we have one of the most deadliest terrorist group in the world which has destroyed lots of lives and properties as well has caused lots of damages to Nigeria's finance, economy and international perception. THE BUHARI LED FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD FOLLOW DEMOCRATIC PROCESS IN HANDLING THE BIAFRAN PROTESTERS. NOTHING !!!! I REPEAT NOTHING !!!!!! SHOULD HAPPEN TO NNAMDI KANU. NIGERIA'S GOVERNANCE SHOULD BE BASED ON EQUITY, JUSTICE AND FAIRNESS !!!

DJBIGGY:
Some people forget that as public figure, they ought to be cautious about how they make some statements regarding Nigeria's Unity. How can someone in the nollywood industry issue such a threat to destabilize Nigeria if anything happens to Radio Biafra director when you should be using your position to bring about peace, unity and cooperation in the country.

A nollywood producer and director, Dickson Iroegbu stated on facebook that Nigeria will burn if the Radio Biafra Director Nnamdi Kanu come under harm, while reminding what happened in Tunisia.

While the federal government is one of the body responsible for unity of the country, Nollywood also has a huge role to in uniting the masses through movie production. They sit down making their money without knowing the power the having in rebuilding the nation. Instead of threatening, why don't you create movies to bring out certain issues affecting the society and see how a lasting solution can be brought? It is not only entertainment or p*orn movies you should serve the masses (or maybe the play naive as they make money off us).

Dickson has obviously show his level of tribalistic tendencies in his statement using #iamigbo... Are we not Nigerians? Why must we identify ourselves based on the state, ethnic group or religion before we do things? Yes certain rights as a section needs to be protected but do you think violence will bring back Nnamdi Kanu if anything happens to him as you are threatening?

Look at countries around the world; Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and many other who have been under violence and attacks in the name of pursuing a cause for years, Have they been able to settle without destroying a lot of lives, assets and happiness? Do you want to see your people in tears and fear of uncertainty in a war? If you have the money to send your family abroad if Nigeria goes under siege, never forget millions of Nigerians cannot afford to travel to Ghana who is our neighbour, not to mention another continent.

Mr. Dickson, respect your position and be weary of what you say. #juststaying.

Rochas tasks NIS boss to improve effort in fight against terrorism

Governor Rochas Okorocha has called on the Imo State Comptroller of Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS), Mrs. Nneka Uchendu to sensitize and educate Nigerians especially professionals on the need to verify overseas jobs before accepting them because ISIS and other terror groups are making multi-million dollar offers to professionals who may be willing to join them.

He made this call when the newly posted State Comptroller, of the Nigeria Immigration Service paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House Owerri today.

He stated that immigration services is very important to our nation’s growth, hence should be supported whole heartedly especially now that the nation is fighting insurgency orchestrated by illegal aliens in the country.
He expressed joy at the great sense of responsibility and passion exhibited by the Comptroller since she took over office, stating that her vision to succeed is quite commendable and urged her not to rest on her oars.

Earlier, the newly posted Comptroller, Imo State Command of Nigeria Immigration Services, Mrs. Nneka Uchendu expressed her determination to work assiduously to help the Federal and State Government attain the lofty ideals required in the immigration system. She spoke on the need for the command to be included in State Security Council Meetings so that they can contribute their quota to the security challenges facing the nation, pointing that apart from issuing passport, they are equally trained to tackle security challenges when required. The State Immigration boss thanked the governor for donating a car to the command and for equally allocating a land where the command permanent site is being constructed. Governor Okorocha Adopts Concession Option

At last the Imo State Governor, Owelle Anayo Okorocha has considered to concession the managements of some Parastatals and Health facilities in the state with a view to make them more productive, so as to strengthen the state economy.
The essence of the latest move by the governor which has been described as a bold and courageous step was designed to inject life into some of the parastatals and health facilities that would surely return them on the path of economic growth and development.
The decision of the governor was communicated to the public through a press release signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemedo. He made it clear that the essence is to achieve the aims of establishing them in the first place.
He expressed deep concern that most of these parastatals and Health facilities have continued to enjoy the government’s huge monthly subventions without any meaningful financial contribution to compliment for such cash investments.

The statement noted with dismay that most of the government Parastatals were expected to generate revenue by virtue of their status but unfortunately, they were unable to do so.
The managements of some of the parastatals already listed for concession include; Imo Newspapers, Imo Orientation Agency, NEPAD, Imo ADP, Agric Loans Board, Water Corporation, PFMU and PSGRDP, Consumer Protection Council, Imo State Council for Arts and Culture,(ISCAC) Imo State Sports Council, Imo State Tourism Board, Imo State Zoological Garden, Imo State Library Board, Imo Job Centre and Imo State Investment Promotion Agency.(ISIPA)
Others are the State Directorate for Employment, Okigwe Cattle Market, Imo Livestock, Ministry of Agric and Natural Resources Shop, Niger-Delta Bureau, Poverty Alleviation Bureau, IWADA, Bureau for Public Procurement and Price Intelligence, ENTRACO, Imo Marketing Company, Imo Blue Lake Oguta and Imo Essential Drug.

The Health facilities the government have also listed to concession their managements include ; the General Hospitals and Health Centres in the Twenty-Seven Local Government Areas of the state, including the General Hospitals at Aboh Mbaise, Ngor Okpala, Ihitte Uboma, Okigwe, Aro-ndizogu, Mbieri, Awo Omama, Oguta, Ogwa, Ohaji Egbema and the Specialist Hospital, Umugwuma.

In the case of the Health Centres and General Hospitals, the government decided to concession their respective managements to give them the needed impetus to make the Health-care delivery system in the state responsive, effective and service-oriented especially when the government’s experience in the affected Health outfits have been nauseating.

In addition to the concession actions, the government has also dissolved the Youth Must Work Scheme with the aim of re-organization, effectiveness, and efficiency so as to achieve its initial targets and purpose.
However, the Primary and Secondary teachers recruited under the Youth Must Work Scheme were not affected by the dissolution.

The government has also dissolved the elected officials of the Community Government Councils (CGC) and the action is also designed to help in repositioning the CGC to also make it very vibrant and result-oriented.

Imo State to Partner with PZ CUSSON to Establish Palm Refinery in the State

Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has pledged to partner with a Multi-National Company, PZ Cusson in setting up Palm Plantations across the three zones of the State as part of its efforts to diversify the economy of the state.

Owelle Okorocha made this pledge when the Management of the PZ Cussons called on him at the government House Owerri yesterday. He stated that a taskforce on palm plantation has already been set up by his government to ensure that every community has at least a hectre of palm plantation.

The governor regretted a situation where a country like Malaysia that got palm fruit from Imo State is now a leading country in the production of palm produce, whereas Nigeria is still relying on crude oil to exist.

He stressed that time has come for the nation and state to look inwards and return back to agriculture, pointing out that his administration will be ready to partner with serious investors in the development of the agric sector especially in the area of palm plantation.

Speaking further, he stated that the communities in Imo State has already planted palms and will be ready to provide 100 tons of palm fruit every month if the company is serious with business.

Earlier, the leader of the group, Mr. Santosh Pillai expressed their readiness to partner with the state government to resuscitate its agro industrial sector, noting that Imo State was a major player in the export of palm oil produce in the late seventies.

He spoke of their determination to revitalize the palm industry in the state and Nigeria at large and at such reduce import and increase export of palm produce.
