i wish to thank you so much for opening the route to Enugu from international destinations. This is a great opportunity for the people of East where the airport is located. It has been a dream com true for us. Ethiopia airline will really make it with these new destination. 80% of Nigerian travelers are people from these region. However, I wish to suggest that during the month of November and December, arrangements should be made to increase the route to be a daily route as many people will be using the airport and the airline in particular to arrive home to Enugu. With great anticipations and happiness, we welcome you and looked forward to flying with you to Enugu.

Shoprite was established in Enugu. From the multi billion naira mall in Enugu to the $500million dollars Mall in Owerri from Owerri to Onitsha, to Umuahia. Soon it would move to the Industrial Hub of Aba and the agricultural hub of Abakaliki. The Anambra Shopping Mall, Hotel and Convention Centre would not only pull tourists, visitors, politicians and business people from within but also from 5 minutes away Asaba delta state and create an executive venue for companies, organisations, business people to hold their meetings, conferences and conventions in Onitsha instead of moving elsewhere. • 22 arrested as angry youth protest chieftaincy tussle • Monarch chased out of palace

No fewer than five persons were shot yesterday in a fracas that broke out as angry youths stormed the palace of Apeju of Ilupeju-Ekiti and chased out the monarch, Oba Olaleye Oniyelu, for allegedly installing an unpopular person as a traditional chief.

Five houses were also razed by the irate youths, who pounced on the monarch for attempting to impose his own candidate as the Olugbosun (the third in hierarchy to the monarch and war chief) against popular wish of the people.

President of Ilupeju Ekiti Students Union, Mr. Tayo Fatile, was said to have also sustained serious injury during the fracas, as he was hit with the butt of a rifle during the scuffle.

The five persons shot, according to our sources, are now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital, while the monarch was said quickly rescued out of the palace by security guards to avoid being beaten and wounded.

Saturday Sun gathered that the monarch was to have conferred Mr. Israel Ojo with the Olugbosun chieftaincy title about six days ago. Some chiefs, in company of other dissatisfied youths, converged on the palace yesterday to install Mr. Aseperi, who was said to be the popular choice of the people in the sleepy town, situated in Oye Local Government Area of the state.

Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ekiti State Command of the Nigeria Police, Mr. Victor Babayemi, confirmed the arrest of 22 persons by his men in connection with the crisis in the town.

Narrating the incident to journalists in Ado Ekiti, an eyewitness said the monarch’s preferred candidate for the war chief title, Mr. Ojo, was allegedly going to the palace amid pomp and pageantry, in company of his family members, to receive the title, when some youths blocked and prevented him from entering the palace. This led to a serious battle between his group and the youths fought each other with dangerous weapons and charms.

A source in the community told correspondent that some youths, who were not comfortable with the decision of the monarch, had mobilised themselves and waylaid the Oba’s choice, leading to fracas.

Investigations also revealed that but for the timely intervention of the police, the palace of the monarch, which was vandalised, would have been set ablaze by the angry mob.

SOUTH WEST NIGERIA,HUB OF HARD DRUGS USAGE, says NDLEA

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has[b] declared the South-West geo-political zone as one of the main hubs of illicit drug cultivation and trafficking [/b] in the country.

Addressing newmen in Abeokuta, NDLEA Chairman, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, said the situation was worrisome and that efforts should be made to check the development.

Giade, who spoke ahead of the commencement of the South-West Zonal awareness campaign on prevention of illicit drug cultivation, trafficking and abuse, said a two-acre cannabis plantation was recently discovered in Epe, Lagos State.

“The Osun State Command early this year discovered cannabis plantation that has a worship centre and other facilities. This is unthinkable. A total of 196.5 acres of cannabis farmlands were discovered and destroyed in the South-West this year alone.

“The colossal seizures of cannabis in this region are beyond imagination. The Ekiti Command uncovered 53.7 metric tons of cannabis in a storey-building at Ise-Ekiti in February 2008. The Oyo State Command on May 29, 2008 made the single largest seizure ever of 80.53 metric tons of cannabis.

“The deadly weeds were concealed in two clandestine warehouses in a residential area of Ibadan. A bullion van, a truck and a 504 Peugeot car used in conveying the drugs were also impounded,” he added.

The NDLEA boss, who spoke through the Director-General of the organisation, Otunba Lanre Ipinmisho, lamented that the South-West appeared to be lagging behind in terms of support for the anti-drug campaign compared to other zones in the country.

He said: “We are deeply worried about this, consideration the enormity of the drug problem in the zone. This campaign is, therefore, a deliberate effort by the agency to seek support of all stakeholders in the zone to give the war against illicit drug trafficking, cultivation and abuse the priority attention it deserves.''
