There is a silent but impactful youth re-skilling programme ongoing at the Edo Innovation Hub, an initiative of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in Edo State, conceived to equip Edo youths with in-demand tech skills and knowledge of computer programmes. The Edo Innovation Hub simply referred to as Edo Innovates, is a youth empowerment initiative and the state’s first technology hub to bring young people in ICT together to access opportunities in ICT training. The hub bears testament to the steady evolution of the state into the epicenter of all things technological and creative. At the tech hub, the State Government has made provision for infrastructural, digital, human and social resources to equip these young people with requisite digital skills for a competitive advantage in the global ICT market. This has generated employment opportunities as well as ensured self-reliance and sufficiency for many youths in the state. According to Obaseki, “the world practically revolves around technology, and as such, technology must be leveraged in driving governance and empowerment.” To suit words to action, the tech hub has churned out thousands of graduates who today are involved in various jobs with both national and international companies, earning more foreign exchange for the country. Beneficiaries from the Hub have continued to recount their life-changing stories and impacts of Edo Innovates in equipping them with tech-based skills which have afforded them opportunities for development and economic sustainability. _*Meet Glory, the Secondary School Leaver and Beneficiary of Edo Innovates Who Makes Genuine Money*_ Stories from beneficiaries like Glory Obasi give credence to the life-changing opportunities which Edo Innovates offers. What makes Glory’s story not only interesting but also impressive is that she is just a senior secondary school certificate holder. In a world where majority of youths have resorted to diverse criminal enterprises for the ever-blazing get-rich-quick syndrome, a characteristic trend of the modern world, especially in developing countries like Nigeria, Glory chose to do something meaningful with her life by taking advantage of opportunities at Edo Innovates to equip herself with digital skills. Today, Glory has extensive knowledge in graphics design and computer programming. While most ICT intervention programmes require some basic tech-knowledge from applicants, Edo Innovates offers young people mind-blowing opportunities which do not require prior knowledge of the computer as a prerequisite for admission. Entrants are taught the computer from scratch. According to Glory “We learnt computers from the scratch; how to reconnect your computer, how to repair your computer when it is faulty. We were taught Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, Web Development amongst other packages. In the second course of the training, we were told to choose what we love (area of specialty). For me, I love graphics, so I chose graphics”. Like many youngsters, Glory had no idea of what to venture into after her secondary education. Such indecisiveness which has become common among most school leavers has prompted many to end up in the wrong circles. Lack of information about life-changing opportunities has also misled many youths today, and like sheep, they are led to the slaughter. Glory, however, took advantage of Edo Innovates and started earning even before graduating from the training programme. According to her, “Many people think it is only guys that can make money, but that is not true. As a lady you can make money for yourself. I have younger brothers that I also take care of today and even my mother, because of the empowerment I got at Edo Innovates. Now I am into graphics, I have an online business. Sometimes people ask me ‘how many businesses are you doing?'” Glory’s story is one of the many success stories emanating from the Edo Innovation Hub. Today, young Glory makes genuine money to take care of herself and even her family. Her knowledge of digital marketing from her training at the Innovation Hub has improved her digital marketing skills immensely. Her online business is booming and she is facing the future with confidence. You too can become an ICT expert and begin earning big like Glory. You can, you should, and if you are brave enough to start, you will. No sort of influence from any quarters is required to get admission into the programme. And the good news is, it is free. The Edo State Government under the leadership of Godwin Obaseki is committed to youth empowerment and as such, has created this avenue to equip Edo youths with digital knowledge in order to give them a competitive advantage in the global market. According to Governor Godwin Obaseki, “Everything about the world today is about technology, software, artificial intelligence, the internet of things. This is why we must leverage technology in driving governance and empowerment.” _*Kelvin Edionwe, the Young UI/UX Designer from Edo Innovates*_ The likes of Kelvin Edionwe who are direct beneficiaries of ‘Edo innovates’ have shared their life-changing experience. Many government-sponsored initiatives in this part of the world have been known to be shrouded in secrecy, as such, opportunities are only available to those with some level of influence. Not many believe that you could actually walk into the Edo Innovation Hub, apply to be trained in a year-long programme, and afterward, become a certified computer expert, for free. Edionwe, who was simply told by a friend about Edo Innovates, walked into one of the regular enlightenment seminars organised by the hub, penned down his name as an interested participant, and a week later he was interviewed. That was simply how his journey to becoming a UI/UX graphics expert began. He got admitted through Edo Innovates into the EdoBits programme, a one-year course where he gained advanced knowledge in Microsoft Word, WordPress, and other germane areas. Today, he is an expert in UI/UX design. In addition to this, he, alongside fellow trainees, were taught how to attract clients from within and outside the country. It is a full package where one is not only trained but also given the necessary survival and business skills to ensure independent income. According to Edionwe, “The training has impacted me greatly. I earn a lot now, even more than most graduates. Currently I work with three different companies remotely; one in Kenya, another in Canada, and one in Nigeria.” Kelvin Edionwe is just another success story from the stream of stories that have evolved from the Edo Innovation Hub. Like Kelvin, simply show interest and you too can become an expert in whatever computer programme you choose to major in. It is the commitment of the Edo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki, to empower Edo youths with ICT knowledge as the world today runs on digital skills. The digital space continuously seeks experts with diverse tech skills to fill the huge void in the market. *_How Aguele Victory Became a Tech-Expert from Edo Innovates_* Also, Aguele Victory, a beneficiary and graduate of Animal and Environmental Biology from the University of Benin who is currently a corporate service executive of Work Your Data Limited, recounted how Edo Innovates afforded her the opportunity of becoming a Data Science and Analytics expert which has enabled her to rise into her current position. After her national youth service programme, Victory felt the need to build capacity in Data Science but was constrained by the high cost of enrolling for the programme. According to her, “Edo Innovation Hub changed my life. In my final year, I was practically this girl that was unsure of what the future would be. But then I had an interest in acquiring knowledge in data science. “In my quest to learn Data Science and Analytics, I came across a website that offered the programme at the cost of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500). I did not have that kind of money. This is the same opportunity that Edo Innovation Hub provided me for free” Victory never knew anyone at Edo Innovates. All she did was to surf the internet to search for places she could learn tech skills and she came across Edo Innovation Hub. She applied and was admitted into the programme where she learned Data Science and Data Analytics. Today Victory works at a Data Analytic Firm, Watch Your Data Limited. She has noted that Edo Innovates shaped her into her current position and also provided her access to a community of tech experts in her field. According to Victory, “I did not just learn tech-skills alone at Edo Innovates. They also gave my fellow trainees and I access to a wide community of tech experts”. https://www.vanguardngr.com/.../obaseki-grooming-next.../

Leadership with genuine intent will always attract the attention of those with common interest in human and societal development. In the Harry Potter series, the sword of Godric Griffindor is seen to appear to a true Griffindor in their time of need. It cannot be conjured by any means of sorcery by whomever wills it. So it has become for Governor Godwin Obaseki whose intellectual magic wand has conjured giant developmental strides which have fascinated many, including his ability to get help from global bodies in driving his transformation initiatives in Edo State. While many have ascribed such successes to his background in financial expertise as an investment banker, it will suffice to say that while titles have been known to breed titles, the same cannot be said for global financial institutions like the World Bank who cannot be hoodwinked into rendering financial supports for initiatives that have no bearing on germane needs of the larger society. Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has been able to secure at least 1.2 billion Dollars from the World Bank in driving the Edo BEST initiative, a transformation programme for the Basic Education sub-sector of the State. Edo BEST today has digitized teaching and learning at the basic Education level in the State and has seen to the training of over eleven thousand (11,000) teachers and head teachers in digital pedagogy with every teacher in the scheme having access to a computer tab with which they deliver daily lessons. This has made the synchronization of lessons possible for all basic classes in the State. Teachers have also been introduced to modern teaching methods and new approaches to propel motivations in pupils. Corporal punishment has been substituted with motivational discipline methods. The transformation that Edo BEST provides has bearing on not just the tech-approach to modern teaching but also on learning outcomes and character. Recently a group of World Bank delegates were in Benin City, Edo State, for routine inspection. They were hosted by Family Support Programme Nursery and Primary School Benin, (FSP) an Edo BEST school, and were taken on a tour round the school to inspect facilities as well as the new teaching techniques now adopted at the basic education level in Edo State. After series of engagements with pupils and teachers, Ms. Mari Elka Pangetsu, Managing Director, Development Policy and Partnership, World Bank, who led the delegates, expressed satisfaction over the level of infrastructural development witnessed. The current Commissioner for Education in Edo State, Ms. Joan Osa Oviawe, under whose leadership as Chairman of Edo SUBEB the Edo BEST programme kicked off and took shape, was also on ground to welcome and join the dialogue with the global visitors. Appreciating them for their support, the Commissioner for Education acquainted them of the progress so far recorded and why more support is required to enable a similar success story in the Edo BEST 2.0 programme recently launched by Governor Godwin Obaseki. Edo BEST 2.0 is aimed at extending the Edo BEST initiative to not only Junior and Senior School levels but also technical schools and tertiary institutions in the State. The current Chairman of Edo SUBEB was also on ground to acquaint the World Bank delegates on the Sustainability plan for Edo BEST. She noted that the successes recorded in the Edo BEST 1.0 programme warranted the launching of Edo BEST 2.0. She noted that while the digitization of the programme at the senior and tertiary levels is now on course, a consolidation effort at the primary level is also ongoing to ensure that grey areas are adequately attended. The World Bank delegates expressed satisfaction as they saw firsthand what Edo State Government has been up to in the Basic Education sub-sector of the State. Their positive submissions rested on the evidence of their eyes. Governor Godwin Obaseki is committed to providing quality education for the Edo child. His giant strides in Basic Education has left an indelible impression on the minds of the delegates who are willing to continue in their partnership with Edo State in making the State become an education hub in Africa as well as globally. https://headlinenews365.com/how-governor-obasekis-approach-to-education-attracted-world-bank-john-ewah/

Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Jagaban of Borgu, you ought to be the very last person to ask citizens of any State in Nigeria not to vote for any other. Especially when your godson Oshiomhole has buried godfatherism in Edo State. You have always claimed to be democratic and even talked about it in your recent broadcast, supposedly to the people of Edo State. What qualifies you to advise Edo citizens and residents? Are you from Edo State, or what is your stake in Edo? Our resources? On your claim of being father of democracy and having fought for democracy, please remember you belonged to NADECO alongside Oyegun, Fayemi, Ndubusi Kanu and many others, and you were not the arrowhead. You ran away to stay alive. All who stayed back in the country, in the face of near fascism and threat of death, paid more price than you, you were quick to disappear. So please enough of you having fought for democracy. It is grand delusion referring to yourself as father of democracy. You are not and you never was. You are one person we would like to respect, but your recent broadcast leaves much to be desired. You are absolutely free to campaign for your party, but we expect words of wisdom from a supposed elder statesman. We expect you to market your preferred choice and not to cast aspersions on Gov. Godwin Obaseki. Your claim of having fought for democracy is neither here nor there as you have contributed immensely in destroying this country. Your APC government you foisted on this country is yet to deliver on any of her promises to the electorate. If you are truly a democrat, you will not keep quiet in the face of gross insecurity in your Southwest homestead. You have kept quiet for selfish reasons, but there is tomorrow and the youth will definitely ask questions. Your endorsement of godfatherism is out of sync with realities on ground in Edo. We have moved on since Oshiomhole buried godfatherism in Edo State. We cannot be retrogressing years after independence from godfatherism. Coming to your Lagos State, it is nothing but a glorified slum. You must be regretting your eight years of stewardship, plus another twelve years you insisted on your preferred candidates in Alausa; totaling twenty years, that only succeeded in producing a slum despite the State's huge internally generated revenue. We plead you rather concentrate on Sanwolu to rebuild Lagos. Or when you look at Lagos, are you happy with her state of decay? Please face the South West you have destroyed and try to rebuild your acceptance by your people, who have lost confidence in you. Cast your mind back to the last governorship election in Lagos State. Was it free and fair? Be honest with yourself, if you had allowed Igbo votes to count, would your godson have emerged? What of Osun State? On a last note, we are happy with Obaseki, and I urge our people to vote for Obaseki on 19th September, 2020. Control your people, if you must control any. I do not know if you are a good student of history, but can we subtly remind you that Midwest Region was created as the nation's Fourth Region in the '60's, after a referendum. We are wise enough to know what we want, and it is not the overbearing influence of godfathers. Anyway, your broadcast was made in Lagos and for your Lagos people. We don't need your brand of politics in Edo just as we don't need to remind you that Edo is not Lagos. In God I trust, Senator Ehigie Uzamere. |
Rigging is in the genome of the APC. They can cry wolf all they want. Edo is PDP |
When APC has the master rigger(Adams Oshiomhole) in their camp, what do you expect. Fraud is all they are known for. |
The Edo State governor has truly shown that he has a mandate to improve not just the life of Edo people but also Nigerians. With this development, direct and indirect jobs will be created, the economy will be boosted. It is indeed a welcome development. We need more visionary leaders like him to be in government. |

If you live in the state then you will see the magnitude of projects tha has been undertaken by this administration. One thing you all fail to know is that Governor Obaseki is not one to bring media, throw a flamboyant commissioning ceremony just to commission a project. When a project is completed it is immediately been put to use as such you don't see so much media hype. He would rather invest the money for commissioning into executing more projects. |
The Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, has assured the people of Imiekuri Okpella that his administration would construct the Imiekuri-Okpella Road and also expand opportunities for jobs creation through strong synergy with private sector players in the minerals and mining sector operating in the area. Speaking to party faithful in ward 6 Imiekuri Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area, Governor Obaseki said the state of the road was worrisome, adding that his administration would ensure it gets fixed. “I have seen the state of this road. I promise that this road will be tarred within the next 24 months. You are aware that we have delivered a number of other road projects in the area. This will not be an exception,” Obaseki said. “The 12.7km road is important to the economic development of this area. We will fix it and open up the area,” he said. Obaseki assured that he would meet with the management of the two notable investors in the area, Dangote and BUA industries, whose investments in Okpella are worth N6 billion, to harmonise how best to engage more residents in the area in their factories and other key mid-level and management positions. “I will sit down with the management of both companies and let them see reasons why the people in this area should be those working in these cement factories,” he said. The Otaru of Okpella Kingdom, Victor Eneshioagbe Odaboi, led a victory prayer for the governor and his deputy, calling on God Almighty to ensure they emerge victorious at the poll. He expressed confidence that the governor’s second term in office will bring about greater development in all sectors, including human capital development. Olowu Kayode, a PDP leader in the ward, urged the people to come out en masse on September 19 to cast their votes for the Edo State governor. We cant have a fraudulent man in charge of Edo treasury |
Truly a simple agenda to take Edo state back to an era of hooliganism, touting and disrespect to elders and citizens, where the people of Edo state will be put back in slavery. Thanks we dont need the simple agenda. Edo is a M.E.G.A state |
The projects and developments is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. The people who would ever suggest an alternative are enemies of the state knowing the hooliganism and toutism Edo has experienced in past administration. We cant go back to Egypt |
Edo Times can authoritatively report that there was a mild drama today at the venue the Ize-Iyamu Campaign team met with the Onojies of Esan Land to solicit for their cooperation and support in the September, 19th 2020 gubernatorial election. Neither Ize-Iyamu nor Oshiomhole was allowed to speak more than the time that was allotted them. The tension was palpable in the air. You would recall that Immediately after the hard fought 2016 election, Comrade Oshiomhole suspended the Onojie of Uromi for the political stand he took during that election. A suspension that was eventually lifted by Governor Obaseki. Edo Times learnt that Oshiomhole was the first to stood up to talk but he was greeted with most Onojies speaking in hush tones. Oshiomhole sensing danger ahead, started to become defensive but some of the Onojies wasn’t taking it lightly with him and went into verbal spat with him that almost degenerated into fisticuffs. Ize-Iyamu campaign team quickly moved to get the press out of the hall but it was too late for them as most press already videoed the verbal exchange. The team left the venue with heads bowed. Oshiomhole continues to be Ize-Iyamu’s biggest albatross as he looses more people daily. |
The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday said he did not re-appoint the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, as a government official during his re-election in 2012 because he did not trust him. Oshiomhole, said this while addressing traders’ associations in Benin, the state capital. He noted that Ize-Iyamu was part of the previous administrations, under the PDP, which he said allegedly “looted the Edo State treasury.” The PDP candidate for the forthcoming governorship poll served as Oshiomhole campaign team’s Director-General in the 2012 election. But the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chris Nehikhare, dismissed the governor’s allegation as a “fat lie,” adding that the party’s candidate rejected all appointments offered by Oshiomhole. Nehikhare said, “Ize-Iyamu rejected all the appointments offered by the governor both in 2008 and 2012. He, instead, recommended many people to the governor, which the governor gladly appointed. Oshiomhole, who was flanked by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Godwin Obaseki and other people said, “I did not appoint Ize-Iyamu because of his past record. I would not be comfortable to put government money in his hand. That is why I kept him completely out of government. “I did not even give him a board appointment. He was part of the government that looted the Edo State treasury. Do not put the key to your kitchen in the hands of someone you do not trust. “Usually, a governor appoints the Director-General of his campaign after his election. But I did not appoint him into government because I have his records; I do not trust him.” He also faulted criticisms over the siting of a new university in his hometown, arguing that state funds were better invested in human capital development than in private pockets. He said, “I read Ize-Iyamu complaining that I have developed my village, Iyamho. Yes, because Iyamho is part of Edo State. But I did not put the money in my pocket. “But what did they do in Okada (community)? They said they wanted to do a dual carriageway. They collected the money and put it in their pocket and they did not do the Okada road.” Earlier, Obaseki had commended the traders for their support ahead of the election. The APC candidate noted that the achievements recorded by the Oshiomhole administration were part of the first phase of development in the state. He, therefore, urged the voters in the state to support the APC in order to commence the second phase. Obaseki said, “All those things we have done in eight years, we want them to continue. Oshiomhole is the architect; he has laid the foundation and, in our continuity programme, we will lay the blocks and continue from there.” Source: https://punchng.com/didnt-reappoint-ize-iyamu-2012-oshiomhole/ |
favor914:Oshiomhole himself said he is the master rigger. but the people of edo state will resist him this time. |
They are not just ingrates but arrogant criminals who have vowed to plunge Edo state into a state of comatose. There has been no good deed attributed to Ize-Iyamu since his entrance into politics. It has always been lies, deceit, arrogance and betrayals. he will never get close to Dennis Osadebey avenue. |
