Politics"Buhari Should Have Spoken In English"- Femi Falana Criticises Presidency by Raziii(op): 12:06am On Jun 26, 2017
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana (SAN) has criticised the manner the audio recording released by the presidency was handled. In the recording, President Buhari speaking in Hausa admonished Nigerians to shun all forms of divisiveness.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels TV, Femi Falana said, " It is reassuring that the President has spoken, but it should have been better handled." He went further, " I think it was not well handled, the President should have spoken in the official language of Nigeria which is English."

President Buhari has been away in the United Kingdom on medical vacation for 48 days now, and this is the first time the country has heard from him since then.

While this would go a long way to assuring Nigerians that the President is still alive, it raises more questions about the true state of the President's health as he sounded frail.

PoliticsEid-el-fitr: Buhari Appeal To Nigerians To Avoid Reckless Statements by Raziii(op): 10:14pm On Jun 24, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to embrace peace and avoid making reckless statements against others.

This was revealed in a press statement released by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu to mark Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

President Buhari was quoted as saying, “I am immensely grateful to God for his mercy in guiding us successfully to conclude another Ramadan fast. My greetings to all Nigerian Muslims and our brother Christians on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr.

“May the lessons of Ramadan namely; piety, self-denial, prayers and generosity to the poor and needy be with us for all time.

“I, again, appeal to all Nigerians to avoid reckless statements or actions against our fellow countrymen. We should all resolve to live in peace and unity in our great country, which is the envy of many less endowed nations. Happy Eid-el-Fitr,” he concluded.

The president has been on medical vacation for more than a month in the United Kingdom.

Health5 Eating Hacks For A Better Weight- Loss Program by Raziii(op): 11:34am On Jun 13, 2017
Working out every day is definitely a good way of losing weight or maintaining a healthy weight. But there are more to being in the best possible shape than just working your guts out at the gym.

The food you eat or what you eat them can also make or break all the efforts you are putting in your workout session. That’s why eating the right calories, the right way becomes very important in maintaining a healthy body.

So here are five eating rules (I call them hacks) you should adhere to.

Eat Breakfast

In a rush to beat the traffic or catch the early morning bus, a lot of people opt against eating this meal. But if you are conscious of your weight and overall health, then doing such is a No-No, because the human body needs more calories in the morning to move and work effectively because it has basically fasted through the night.

Denying it will mean the slowdown of metabolism, which reduces the rate at which the body calories. Also most people tend to overindulge when they finally get the chance to eat.

Drink Plenty of Water Regularly

The average adult loses close to 2 ½ quarts of water a day. That’s why, a lot of times you think you are hungry it's actually you being thirsty but because dehydration masquerades as fatigue, most people seek food for energy thereby making them eat when they aren’t supposed to.

Aside that water also boost caloric burn by increasing metabolism.

Eat

Fad diet is a common weight-loss diet plan especially among those looking to slim down. These kind of diet apart from being unhealthy does not result in real weight loss. It’s importantly to eat regularly because the body needs fuel (calories) to maintain an optimum body performance which includes burning of fat.

Denying yourself of food, triggers your body into survival mode which makes it difficult to burn fat.

starving your body of food is counterproductive, it will always ask for food, that’s by design. You can’t change that without hurting yourself in the long run.

It’s perfectly okay to eat 3 square meal and even snack in between meals, just make sure you are eating the right things and the right potion.

Limit Your Soft Drink Intake

Because of the high sugar content in soft drinks, most people can’t go a day without it- sugar is addictive. Most of the soft drinks (cola and citrus- flavoured) pack a lot of sugar in them without contributing essential nutrients.

Here is something you should know, the human body doesn’t know when it has had enough of fluid. This may prompt a person to swig more than enough of his favourite drink in a go.

Mind Your Potion

You must have heard this; as long as it is healthy, it is good for you. I will put it this way, as long as it is healthy and you are not over indulging in it, it is good for you. Because every food will make you put on the pounds if you are in the habit of always eating more than enough of it.

So whatever healthy food you are eating, make sure you are not over indulging. if you are, you are only sabotaging your overall fitness goal

That’s it, my five hacks to get the best out of your weight- loss program when it comes to diet. Remember, if you want to maintain a healthy weight or loss fat, the best path is a lifelong combination of working more and eating right. Until next time, stay fab.

Why do people think every Igbo is a disciple of Nnamdi Kanu? I see it as being lazy and unintelligent to be judged based on the actions of another.

The Arewa Youth Council and some other bodies released a very condemnable statement yesterday but that doesn't mean my close friend Jibril supports it. He is a youth. Or if Afenifere releases a statement defending a condemnable act shouldn't make me start seeing my best friend Segun from a different angle.

Shouldn't that be the way of a sane mind. Or am I the insane one? Its becoming irritating seeing and hearing Knowledgeable' people talk in ways that just makes you wonder.

Why wish me evil because Kanu, a man I have no relationship with called you animal in a zoo, why rejoice when you hear of the plights the IDP are going through because 'na dem dem', or because you dislike the president. Why celebrate when you hear the news of my people being killed because from your statistics, my ethnic group voted against your preferred candidate. WHY?

Remember, you are first human before an Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba.

I am sorry to say this my dear... But noodles does not make anyone fat at all... I believe this article was copied from the web.. But I write everything from my own experience and research... Calculating the calories from noodles, the only way it would fatten you is if you eat 6 - 10 every single day... Who does that?

For you two questions above
It is the palm oil that makes our local soup so fattening.
Beans can't make you fat if you eat it in the right amount.. It is low in fat, but high in fiber and protein, but too much of it everyday can make you add weight.

Stay Healthy, Stay Wise

I remain Paul Samuel FitnessDoctor
Noodles are classed under junk food. If you have been advising your clients to keep eating them, STOP!
HealthRe: 5 Nigerian Dishes Making You Gain Extra Weight by Raziii(op):
MZLady39:
Good write-up!
I've eaten everything on that list a million times over.
Question about two things:
Is it the meat in the egusi
soup that makes it so fattening or the palm oil?

What type of beans are fattening?
Cause usually beans are pretty healthy...it just depends on what you put on them.

My weakness is white rice.....it's an addiction.
I'll leave it & do brown rice for awhile.
But then, I'll return to my "first love".
I've got to overcome this one.

It's always best to replace any "white/enriched" products with "whole grain/unrefined" products.
But this all takes one step at a time smiley
Most foods won't make you over weight so long you mind your potion. That is where the problem is especially if you on a weight loss program. Alot of ppl don't do that more so with the supposedly 'healthy foods'. They tend to overindulge to make up for the unhealthy foods they have eliminated from their diet plan.

You are on point on the white products.

All types of beans are healthy. They are packed with protein and healthy carb. Potion is the problem here like the guy above said.

Lol, we all have that soft spot for white rice yeh.

Noodles are bad for you. They are packed with sugar and fat. I understand why ppl eat them but if you can, take them off your diet plan.
Health5 Nigerian Dishes Making You Gain Extra Weight by Raziii(op): 2:42pm On Jun 06, 2017
Nigerian dishes are relatively healthier and more nutritious when compared with those of the western world. We love our foods and most times we can’t go a day without them. I can’t go a day without some Nigerian foods, so asking you to stay away from these foods like some blogs do would be hypocritical of me.

And do you know seemly healthy foods can also be packed with loads of calories? Sometimes, much more than the so called unhealthy foods. Now if you are conscious about your weight, then I am sure that got your attention.

Basically, to lose weight, you just have to use more calories than you are getting. And that can be achieved in numerous ways. Cutting down on your calorie intake is one of them, which is what this post is all about.

So if you are on a weight loss plan or you find yourself adding extra pounds and wondering why, this article may help you solve part of that problem. These foods although packed with a lot of nutritional benefits can be suspects and cutting back a little on their intake would help you keep some extra pounds away.

Okay, let’s arraign these suspects one after the other.

Suspect #1 | EGUSI SOUP|
Charges: Carries out its dark plans in a deceptive and good looking way.

Evidence: 700 calories in a single serving

This ‘yummiscious’ looking dish will make you bite your finger off. It is almost impossible to neglect.

Good looking and very nutritious when prepared the right way. But as jaw dropping as this delicacy can be, it is made up of 60% fat with a whopping 700 calories spinning down your throat in one typical Nigerian serving. But that’s not the only problem, Egusi soup doesn’t ball alone. It has partners in crime.

Pounded yam contains 400 calories per cup while Eba has about 360 calories. So in one serving of Egusi soup and pounded yam, you get a massive 1,100 calories, WOW! That’s almost half of your daily requirement.

Judgment: Reduce your intake

Suspect #2 | NOODLES/PASTA|
Charges: guilty of making students overweight.

Evidence: A popular medium size noodles is packed with 640 calories in a pack.

Gone are the days when university students go back home looking like skinny bones. Not the case anymore. Aside other numerous reasons why that may be so, this easy going food may just rank high on that list.

Quick and easy to prepare, noodles and pastas are the darling of most homes and hostels. The noodles for example, innocent looking as it may be, one medium pack of it deposits 640 calories into your system. Double the pack as most people do and that gives you 1,280 calories but in return gives you little nutrient. Simply junk!

Judgment: By all means elimination is the best therapy

Suspect #3 | WHITE RICE |
Charges: won it ways into our heart for deceptive purposes.

Evidence: 700 calories per cup.

Rice is our staple food. From our homes to parties and back to our homes, we can feed conveniently on this food for days. We simply can’t do without rice. And on Sundays, we let lose, rice becomes a hit, we consume it back to back from the church to our homes to parties, like we are all signatories to an unwritten rice pact. And we know how to bring this dish to life.

A typical Nigerian rice and stew serving would hit the 1,000 calorie mark before we are done with it. That’s huge considering the number of times we can eat rice in a day. Surprised how much I know about this, well it was a common thing in my house as a child.

No wonder my teacher back in school once referred to me as ‘fat athlete’.

Judgment: 1. Replace white rice with brown rice if you can. 2. Reduce your portion.

Suspect #4 |WHITE FLOUR|
Charges: may spike sugar levels if taken continuously leading to diabetes especially in older people.

Evidence: it is refined! Contains unhealthy amount of carb and sugar. 460 calories per cup.

This manly looking swallow naturally balls with soups. E.g: Egusi soup. I had to charge it separately because of the havoc it is causing. It goes about deceiving people that it is the healthiest, “you can eat me as much as you want”, bla…bla…bla.

But do you know, during the process of turning whole wheat into powder, an unhealthy amount of carb is cramped together and its continuous consumption can spike blood sugar level. wheat flour as refined flour has a high GI, it releases sugar into the bloodstream quickly. Which can lead to diabetes.

Judgment: Elimination! Go for garri, fufu or Amala instead. And as usual be mindful of calories.

Suspect #5 | BEANS |
Charges: deceives people into consuming a lot of it with it’s holier than thou status.

Evidence: Contains 378 calories per cup.

Like I always say, just because it is healthy doesn’t mean it won’t make you add an extra pound if taken more than you are required to. And that’s one thing beans is so good at. Deceit!

When it comes to beans, a lot of people who are on a weight loss plan eat beans without paying attention to their calorie intake. After all, since we’ve been told it aids in weight loss, so the more beans I eat, the more weight I lose right? Wrong!

The human body has its specific requirement of the various classes of food. Protein is one of them. No matter the amount of protein you send down your stomach, your body takes its requirement and the rest is stored for future use. A single serving of beans contains about 520 calories. Relatively low compared to others on the list though. But with its ability to make you eat more than required, I had to charge it.

Judgment: Never eliminate! As long you get your portion right, you are safe with beans.

In rounding up, never go on dieting otherwise you’ll end up being a Yo-Yo dieter. Its unsustainable. Especially if you are a Nigerian. How long can you keep off that delicious Egusi soup with Amala or Eba. Not sure you can for long. Instead try to figure out the healthy foods and a lot of Nigerian foods fall under this cycle, then mind your portion.

But if you realize you have eaten more than you are supposed to, don’t kill yourself by starving all through the next day. Your body doesn’t work that way.

And more importantly, Diet and workout goes together. One without the other simply cannot work. So mind what you eat and workout more often. This way you will be slim and bold.

PoliticsDear President Buhari, You Have Broken Our Hearts – By Chude Jideonwo by Raziii(op): 6:54pm On May 29, 2017
Two years ago to this day, you brought me to tears.

You were in our nation’s capital, being inaugurated as the first Nigerian in our nation’s history to win the presidency from an opposition party. I was far away, in Lagos; but I had a cherished privilege: to be the one to publish the very first tweet on your account as President of the Federal of Nigeria.

And as my colleague, Oluwatobi Soyombo watched, I threw my head back on the chair, and I began to weep.

I couldn’t help myself. This moment was too big, was too strong; was too much.

They were tears of joy. But they were also tears of relief, personal and collective. Personal relief from the fear of the consequences of my decision – after having readied myself for four years of repercussion for supporting so publicly a man who was hardly likely to win; collective relief that we would not be facing four more years of the triumphal leadership of the corrupt and the reprobate; relief that we had just dodged a bullet.

Barely six months before I had never met you, never stayed in the same space you, didn’t even believe in you. The one thing I knew was that, for this young man, it was anybody but Goodluck Jonathan. But then you filled me with such hope, because you appeared to finally carry on your shoulders the burdens of an exhausted, furious generation.

I was as furious as anyone. Actually, I was more furious than most. Furious enough to burn bridges, risk backlash, annoy friends and family; to cross the divide to vote and work passionately for a man I had voted for reluctantly, even bitterly, only four years before.

It was like a miracle. I never believed this was going to happen. I never believed an opposition leader could win an election in our country; I never believed that citizens could make this change happen in my lifetime.

It was so hard to believe that I continued to argue with my team, right up to time that the incumbent president conceded. Our data already projected your win, but I refused to be seduced, memories of Karl Rove making a fool of himself on Fox News over a quixotic Mitt Romney win in 2012 haunting me. “Push all the votes from the South-East and the South-South to Jonathan’s column,” I said to my colleague Joachim MacEbong. “Assume Buhari gets zero votes there. What we have now is too deceptive. An opposition candidate can’t win with such a margin.”

I couldn’t believe it, until it happened. Some days, even now, I wake up and I almost still can’t believe it.

From 2010, when I became active in civic spaces, this had been the dream: to have a citizen-led movement that could put the fear of God into the political establishment.

I had spent days on the streets, in protest, at risk to life and business. I had sat in countless meetings and strategy sessions. I had spent millions of my own money invested in this vision. I had spent time in private and group prayer, shouting in pain, sobbing in frustration, crying out for all of this to not be for nothing, for some intervention, for some sign from God that our country would be better, even in our lifetimes. I didn’t believe it could be this dramatic, I didn’t believe it could come to pass.

But it did. And when it did, it was enough to overturn my theology of God’s agenda for politics. Because it certainly felt like an answer to our prayers. It certainly felt like divine intervention. It absolutely felt like the heavens had heard Nigeria’s heart cry. It had to be. This was a miracle. You were a miracle. You were a change, desperately sought. A change, desperately won.

But it wasn’t really about you, Mr. President. This was never about you.

You were a symbol of our aspiration, you were an expression of a democratic ideal: that the citizen is the most powerful force in any democracy. You were a symbol that we mattered, that our voices mattered. That if we organized, we could defeat powerful forces. That if we came together, nothing was truly beyond our grasp, no possibility beyond the reach of a determined population. That we, truly, are the ones that we have been waiting for.

For me, after 10 years of nation building aspirations and five years of activist engagement, you presented the unique opportunity for to all come together. For the networks, and the platforms and the reputation and the skills and the creativity that I had to come to a head, to join the effort to make change happen. And there were many Nigerians who took that risk also, because we saw a ray of sunlight.

We thought this was worth the risk. This had to be worth the risk.

The many people who worked incredibly hard to get you into office, but then stayed aside and asked for no benefit in return thought it was worth that risk. It was the reason I said no to an offer to join this administration in its first two years, same as many that I know. We couldn’t dare corrupt this one sacrifice – this gift – with the appearance of self-interest.

But it’s not just about those who can afford to keep their distance. It’s more about the many whom your inchoate policies hurt the most – the people you told us you were running for.

Remember that woman who wrapped up her entire savings and donated to your campaign? Do you remember her, sir?

What would you say to her, if you saw her today?

I write this today because I don’t know what happens next.

I don’t know if you are well, or how well you are. You haven’t treated us, your citizens, your voters, with the respect of telling us what ails you, how it ails you and how it affects your ability to do your job. Instead you treat us with the scorn and contempt that Aso Rock seems to breed – the contempt of silence.

Look at the nation you left behind, as you duck for cover in the United Kingdom: Healthcare so shabby even you can’t rely on it for your own well being. Schools still exactly in the state at which you met them 24 months ago. An economy in shambles. An anti-corruption fight running around in circles. A nation fragmented, with the one time since the 1960s where Biafra has become a dominant narrative – courtesy of tone-deaf ethnic-coloured politics. Businesses attacked by a combination of violent tax authorities and ham-fisted fiscal policies, which seem to punish citizens for the failings of past governments and inadequacies of this one. Indeed, the anecdotal stories of businesses folded up, investments dried up jobs lost and dreams shattered have become the defining testimony of your leadership.

You have taken the hopes and the dreams and the faith that we invested in you, and you have shattered them into many tiny pieces.

Is this fair? Is this right? Is this why you ran? Is this what those four attempts were about? Is this the plan you had? Is this the vision you shared? Is this what this was all about – just being president?

It is easy for us to hide under the shadow of your acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, who makes it easy to prove citizens right, that we made the proper choice to vote for change and to upset the old system in 2015. It is convenient to turn to him as justification for our wisdom.

But the truth is that, for me, it isn’t. You are the man with the mandate. You are the man with the ultimate responsibility.

To be honest, there is no regret in voting for you. Even if everything failed, even if your acting president had been a failure, there would be no regret in voting for you.

We had a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. As it turns out, we chose the deep blue sea.

If that time came again, I would make no other choice, even with everything I know now. With everything I have, and everything I believe and everything I hold dear, I am passionate about the fact that, despite the disappointment you have presented to us, voting what you represented for president was a crucial step in re-making Nigeria, in the long term.

I just wish you had made it easier, with your performance, with visionary leadership, with actions and decisions, to justify that choice. I wish we could point to the short term as well as the long term as the vindication of that choice. I wish you had risen up to the occasion, Mr. President.

Yes, you care for Nigeria. I know that. Or at least I think I do. But that doesn’t matter. It’s neither here nor there. Love is not just something you say, love is something you do. And there is no evidence, today, of your love.

We didn’t vote for you to try your best; we didn’t vote for you to complain to no end, no. We voted for you to make change happen.

And no matter what your remaining rabid supporters, either blinded still by anger at Dr. Jonathan, blinded by the comfort of denial or blinded by proximity to power, say, this is the truth: we are disappointed in you. This is not the change we voted for.

Of course, there is still a year to make it happen before the politicking fully kicks in, but not today.

Instead, disappointment, shame, sadness – that has become your legacy.

And it breaks my heart sir.

It breaks so many hearts, home and abroad. Those who believed passionately in you. Those who didn’t believe but decided to give you a chance. Those who couldn’t bring themselves to vote for you but still celebrated the possibility of change. Those who rolled the dice and hoped for the best.

Your performance, your failings, the ineptitude, it has severely broken their hearts. It has severely broken my heart.

I sincerely hope, in your quiet moments of truth, that it breaks your heart too.
