PRESENTATION:lolz. ![]() ![]() ![]() By logic no homogeneous place can claim mastery of pidgin English. Benin city is 99% Bini people with one language. So why would they suffer themselves to speak a foreign language amongst themselves? The influx of foreign students into Uniben, Ekpoma, Auchi Poly brought pidgin there plus as the former capital of Bendel state comprising today's Delta State. Why Warri thrive in pidgin is because of the different tribes which needed to find a common language to interact with Europeans in the 16/17th century. |

yublings:Very correct. If you like speak the whole slang for pidgin, once we smell Igbo or Yoruba or Edo or Calabar for your pidgin accent , then you no follow. Slang is never used as a criteria to measure pidgin mastery. Even within Warri, the next street might not even understand your slang. Na even people when done grow before them enter pidgin area na dem dey use slangs to compensate for their lack of fluency, just the way you see Africans using more grammar than English and American native speakers. When we were in Uniben, we easily single out Bini guys by their pronunciation of "one" which they pronounce as "wan". A clear interruption of their tribal language. Warri and native speakers pronounce "one" as "won" and when speaking fast the "n" is barely heard. Igbo guys usually pronounce "Uniben" with a very audible and stressed emphasis on UNI-ben while Warri native speakers pronounce it fluently with a flat stress pattern. 2 Likes |

Sinistami: This is area slang! Not necessary mastery of pidgin English. In many pidgin English areas, slangs are demographic and never general. Only few slangs becomes acceptable as general slangs. Mastery of pidgin English is more pronounced in fluency in speaking without having an underlying tribal accent at the background. It is never by slangs per say as every street and area get their own slangs and only one or two become acceptable and generalised by the pidgin community . 2 Likes 1 Share |

Jesse25:As a Uniben graduate, the first language in Benin is Bini. No two Bini people speak pidgin to each other as their default language. 1 Like |

MyVILLAGEpeople:it's a police mater . The army should hand over the suspect to the police for investigation. Later the army can conduct its own investigation. |
