@RedhotChic It means what it says. If majority of igbos are living in your town and they make up about 70% of high income earners and most of the citizens from that town are living in penury, wont you devise that method as a governor?. It will definitely affect some of your citizens but its still the rich upper class and the good thing is that the money realized from it can be used to sustain the jobless poor among them. |

For you to be a christian, you have to accept Jesus as your personal lord and saviour and that is the only condition for being a believer. How can you call yourself a christian if you have not accepted Jesus as your personal lord and savior?. Read John 3:16. |

In as much as U told the Igbos to stop crying wolf, U ended up giving them reasons to keep screaming wolf!!!! They either shut the hell up or do something about it by financing the host communities effectively. Igbo traders as rich as they are can afford to sponsor college fees for 50 indigenes and so on, that way it will reduce the bad belle effect and allow them do their business normally. You think the white man is a fool for paying huge taxes to sustain the poor among them? |

ChinenyeN: Stop blaming Europe and oyinbo because they brought light for you guys and you guys would've resisted them yet you accepted but when you can't manage yourself now, you are blaming oyinbo. If we can stop pointing fingers at who is responsible for our wahala in Nigeria and blame ourselves, we may be closer to atonement but all these denials are getting on my nerves. Nigerians, accept your failures and learn from it. |

When i talk now, they say I hate northerners but how will a country work when you are trying so hard to reason with a bunch of people that has an IQ similar to that of a cow?. I am not mad at anybody but Lord Lugard that amalgamated Northern and southern Nigeria. At this point time, there seems to be no solution to this mayhem and only secession can solve it. Those claiming the ibos are the worst hit should shut up because plenty yorubas, efiks etc are affected too. The ibos seems to get the raw end of the deal most times because: 1) They are largely christian and the perpetrators of this crime know that they have more chances of nailing a christian by killing an ibo than a yoruba who may be their fellow jihadist. 2) A lot of Efiks, Urhobos, Ijaws and ibibios are easily mistaken for igbo. I am guilty of that too. 3) Igbos have a lot of trading business and the success that follow may be an attraction for these hungry northerners who will gain from looting their properties physically and emotionally inflicting pain on them so that they feel what they are going through everyday. i think its time for these successful igbo traders to pump more money into their host community, try and energize the youths towards doing something fruitful with their lives besides almajiri. That way, they will have less touts roaming the streets of the north otherwise, I am afraid it will remain this way OR let the various state govts TAX igbos more to sustain their jobless citizens. That is how its done in America unless the igbos don't want peace in their lives. You can't be living in plenty while your neighbour is hungry because a hungry man is an angry man. O pari. |
Politics / Waziri Has Failed —gani by RedHotChic(f): 6:40pm On Nov 28, 2008 |
EFCC uncovers fresh looting • Waziri has failed —Gani Abiodun Adelaja, Abuja and FRIDAY OLOKOR Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs Farida Waziri, yesterday said Nigerians holding public offices are using the global financial meltdown as a pretext to buy properties abroad with public funds. advertisement Waziri who made the disclosure during an interactive session with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes, said following the financial crisis, prices of property especially in the United States of America , USA , United Arab Emirates and other mortgage economies crashed, adding that the development has now availed the looters opportunity to acquire more property. She said efforts to recover some of such property purchased with looted funds abroad were yet to produce the results as those countries involved were unwilling to cooperate with the Commission, saying they could not determine which of the properties were acquired with looted funds. She said it had been hectic for her agency to nab looters of public purse, as according to her, some of them were using the money to build palatial homes in their respective villages, where access and possible confiscation have been extremely difficult. "Because they build those mansions right there in their locality, it is difficult if not impossible to attempt to seize such property as villagers are likely to chase us out with clubs and knives. "We have however established an intelligent unit to monitor those who loot public treasury to ensure a pro-active method of stopping them by all means from utilizing monies so looted before the long hands of law catches up with them’’, she added. Her words: "It has not been easy since I took over as the chairman of EFCC, because of what we met on the ground. However, we will remain focused despite the challenges, I on my part can not be deterred by any sentiment because I am determined to succeed’’ She said the committee was set to re-introduce the Civil Asset Forfeiture Bill to the House of Representatives. She said if it became law, the piece of legislation would make it easier for the commission to seize assets of convicts wherever they may be sited with much more ease. Earlier in his remarks, chairman of the committee Hon Rabe Nasir, said the interactive session was to familiarize with management of the EFCC in furtherance of a better working relationship in the renewed zeal to boot out corruption in the Country. Meanwhile, renowned constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Gani fawehinmi (SAN) yesterday dismissed the incumbent leadership of Economic and Financial Crimes Commissioin (EFCC) as a disappointment, contending that it has failed to tackle corruption. He argued that Mrs. Farida Waziri led Commission has failed to borrow a leaf from the embattled former chairman of the body, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu by courageously taking the graft was to the door step of prominent Nigerians. "The performance of EFCC without Ribadu is nothing to write home about. Waziri has failed the people. The only way for the EFCC to regain its status, efficacy and credibility is for Ribadu to be restored as its chairman," Fawehinmi stated. According to him the present predicament of Ribadu in the hands of the federal government amounts to "suppression, oppression, intimidation and inhuman treatment." While calling for a probe of last Saturday" assault on Ribadu at the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru-Jos, Fawehinmi stressed that government has no choice than to apologize to him publicly. "The federal government should apologise to Ribadu, he should be given his certificate while his demotion should be cancelled and immediately restored to his AIG status because he was due for promotion due to his excellent performance in EFCC," he added. Fawehinmi recalled that Ribadu, while in EFCC brought respect to Nigeria before the international community adding that he has succeeded in changing Nigeria’s perception by the world. In his word, nothing short of apology, reinstatement, restoration of his rank and position in EFCC would be accepted. However, the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Femi Babafemi announced that the present leadership has recorded 32 convictions in court and recovered over N10 billion from fraudsters between June and September 2008. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/nov/28/800.html |
Foreign Affairs / Letter To President Elect Barack Obama by RedHotChic(f): 6:08pm On Nov 28, 2008 |
Dear Mr. Obama, et me congratulate you on your historic presidential election victory. This victory opens a new vista in the world and a new chapter in the history of the United States of America. I particularly like the way you pronounced the name of your country 'a-mer-i-ka' during your campaign tours; hardly ever referring to it as the United States while stressing the last syllable. I sense a strong love between you and your America, as you often personalize it. America has been very kind to you and it has honoured you with her highest office. The American people have entrusted you with their lives, their future and the hope your promised. They responded to your rallying cry and they saw your desire, unalloyed commitment and good intentions. Now they want you to translate all of these into reality. The American people expect no less from you than efforts, steps and actions that will bring about change and restoration; they want you to fulfil the promises of health care for the people (It baffles me that people in the United States lack easy and free access to health care despite being the leading nation in the world), job creation, restoration of the economy to its prime and glory before there was a George Bush, renewable energy and less dependence on foreign crude oil and foreign labour. The American people will judge you using the high standards you set for yourself and even by far higher standards with which they have ever judged any president in the history of the United States. They will accept nothing less than outstanding performance from their first president of African-American heritage, the first minority president. You cannot afford to fail them and you will not have an opportunity to make mistakes and to falter, and to do-nothing. Hopefully, the era of do-nothing and reactive leadership has gone with George Bush, which is why the United States is in serious economic trouble today. I know you are aware of how poorly and badly African and Caribbean nations are run and the level of abject poverty and corruption in those nations. It has been said that the black man is incapable of managing his own affairs and his own nations. Failure appears to be associated with black leadership and governance. Corruption, graft, greed, gluttony and glanderous living dominate the lives of black leaders, and today no single black nation is developed. African people and their Caribbean cousins are hardworking people who only suffer at the hands of greedy leaders who are essentially self-centred. I am sure you are familiar with the history of Kenya and the Kenyattas, Zaire and the dictatorship of Mobutu, the trio of Ibrahim Babangida, Sani Abacha and Olusegun Obasanjo who had noting to show for huge crude oil sales revenue and gas exports, and the disasters in Congo, Uganda, Niger, Sudan and Rwanda. African leaders have run and are still running their nations to the ground, turning their people into refugees who depend on handouts and leftovers despite huge natural and human resources. Now you have been elected and offered a unique mandate to lead and bring about change, you are going to have to be putting in 200% of work output than any American president in history and perhaps 200% results also, if you do not want to be grouped in the same category as most African-American leaders. Making it to the presidency is wonderful and exciting, but that is the beginning of a journey; making a difference and strong impact on the lives of the people is the ultimate. As president you must be true to yourself; brutally honest with yourself, dedicated to your cardinal points, focused on your agenda, and going the extra mile to improve the lives of Americans, enhance global peace and build bridges across the world for collective growth. You will be judged by higher standards, nay, the highest standards ever, the very same way African-American kids are expected to out-perform, to outshine and be neck and shoulder above their peers before they are noticed and recognized. You cannot be an average performer, but rather an outstanding leader whose impact must be felt positively by everyone, who must be clean and pure and well removed from scandal. Your work has been well cut out for you and your challenges are steep - in fact, you drew everyone's attention to the steepness in your acceptance speech. I heard that you are a very hardworking person, but these new challenges require an even harder work culture and output from you. Those who voted for you - and millions of them were whites who believed in you - wants to reap the fruits of the hours on the voting queues, the loss of income for those hours on the queue and the hope that your promise of hope and a new order will translate into new jobs, reclaimed homes, access to an affordable and/or free health care, and an environmentally friendly energy policy cum program that will help create new jobs, new and renewable technology and cheaper energy resources. These are daunting challenges, but achievable nonetheless. My opinion of America has changed. If they can elect you, a Black-American with the huge votes of White America and other minorities, I hold the view that America is far on the right path than most nations of the world, way beyond diversity-legislated Canada and the rest of the Western World in integrating peoples of all races, acknowledging and accepting people for what they are, what they can do and the content of their being. This is the time when the rhetoric of change must become action steps and deeds of great measures and growth. Babs Ajayi. http://nigeriaworld.com/feature/publication/babsajayi/112108.html |

She adviced couples on how to get along with each other. So did my grand mother. There are millions of them in every nook and cranny of America but what did they achieve?. Did Bimbo Odukoya help couples avoid divorce or did couples get the necessary support they needed from family members?. Her type of ministry was basically useless in Africa where cultures and family members over shadow any form of marital counselling. I really dont know what she did and how she is missed by todays couples in Nigeria. In my opinion, she was just one of those celebrity high end pastors that lived off people with a caption. They come and go. |
Politics / Re: Ribadu To Face Trial Next Week by RedHotChic(f): 5:35pm On Nov 28, 2008 |
All you people who are being tricked into believing that Ribadu is being punished are fools. What is happening is an already written script that is being played out now by the invloved people. Until the so called Ribadu or what ever his namle is is thrown into jail, then we can talk. You nigerians never learn. Same thing was done with the former police cheif Ehindero, yet nothing happened after all. Tell me which govt. official has ever gone to jail in nigeria due to corruption. Now you expect them to throw Ribadu into jail? keep dreaming and refuse to accept that you are only being fooled in following a written script being played out by those rogues. After the script have been played out, Ribadu will be a free man. Are they trying to fool us or aggravate us?. Nobody was asking for his arrest rather, we wanted them to arrest the likes of Ibori, Nnamani and Odili, so I dont know where your argument is coming from. |

Culture / Re: Osun State Bans Tribal Marks For Children by RedHotChic(f): 5:32pm On Nov 28, 2008 |
@RedHotChic Okay i understand your point and i am not against tribal mark also but your reasons are very valid but complex in implementing because we cannot use that analogy to apply to every aspect of our culture. A child can grow up to hate the name the parents gave to him. Should the child grow up to choose a name for him or herself? Once again your idea is very good but how do we solve the other parts of our cultures also with this analogy? True, a child may hate his/her name later in life but it can be changed anyway. Tribal marks cannot be changed except recently they have corrective surgeries which are expensive. In Nigeria as a whole, there are no plastic surgeons yet that can effect such change. |

My mum What did Bimbo Odukoya do that is exceptional?. She was just an unqualified relationship counsellor. What change did she make in the lives of average Nigerians when she was alive because I am sick and tired of the media hype and their church people holding her to high esteem?. In my opinion, she was just a celebrity that was globe trotting with a single message from romance. The impact of her ministry on new and old marriages is yet to be ascertained. When you hear women like Ransome Kuti, Moremi, Margareth Ekpo, Flora Nwapa, Mariam ma Ba etc, there must be something concrete about them especially Moremi and Tinubu but not Bimbo Odukoya. You even called her your mother, what happened to your birth mother that cleaned you up till you matured?. Talk of idol worshiping. |

Anyday I invite you to come and eat, just know that am trying to poison you into coma so that I can castrate you. What on earth will make me develop a crush for a polygamist like you especially one from ijebu?. So, anytime I invite you for a meal, run run run faster than you normally do. Don't fall into my trap because of my delicious egusi because you will pay dearly with the loss of your testicles. Women need a breathe of fresh air around you and I wouldn't mind to make that happen. Again, I thought you have an Egyptian and Igbo wife?. I know you have a thing for yellow skin. Oniranu. |
