Nice one, Hakimi. Besides, it is always good to listen to your MOTHER. My mother gave me some good advice 5 years ago. She wanted me to use a property she assisted me to build ( I was having immigration problems abroad and she told me to start building a property in Nigeria ) to start a tutorial or school business. I refused to listen to her and took a job as a teacher. I have been a teacher in private schools since 2021. Now I can see the wisdom in her advice I have realized that I can do better as a Tutorial center owner or run private lessons in the building and make more money. I simply realized that I am intelligent enough to teach students on my own than being employed as a teacher. Mother's advice is GOLD. Take heed to what your mum says . |

callmetade: Senegal should return the cup and medals. Period Why should the Senegalese return the Cup and medals? Morocco lost that final to Senegal . Period . Is Morocco truly an African country? Are they not arabs who overran a black African territory and made the land their home thousands of years ago? Moroccans have black minority tribes among them who are true natives of the land. Ditto for Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt. |

lovewins: Correct. USA is not in play at all. She's not even a permanent resident talk less more a citizen and unlikely to be one in time for her to be considered for team USA.
The other country in contention really is Japan and even they are unlikely as she has no parental connection to them. There's a Nigerian who is currently on the Japanese national team "Monica Okoye" but that's possible because she was born there, grew up there and had a Japanese mum. Izoje has none of this. We can discover more talented youngsters between the ages of 12 to 17 in Nigeria through secondary school basketball leagues and send them on to the USA to play collegiate basketball and subsequently play in the WNBA and NBA and leagues in Europe. This will create a pipeline of talent for DTigers and DTigress. I am talking of permanent secondary school basketball leagues not once a year basketball tournaments like the one run by Nestle and Milo. |

PDPGuy: I’ve heard (not sure of the accuracy) that Izoje has been in contact with the NBBF and Wakama; and the reason she couldn’t join up with the WWCQT team was because of the NCAA tournament Thanks for the head up. I read a ton of articles about Uche Izoje last night. She is really good. She will be a pillar of strength for DTigress in future tournaments. We have lots of gifted female teenagers in Nigeria who have not been able to harness their skills because we don't have basketball leagues in our secondary schools. We need to have up to ten different basketball leagues for secondary school students in Nigeria. I run a children's book club ( An NGO ) in Lagos, Nigeria and it is growing gradually. I am thinking of running a basketball league for secondary schools ( Both public and private ) in the Local Government I live in. Still working on a document concerning this Project. We need to emulate the USA and Canada by creating pipelines of talent production and nurturing in Nigerian basketball. Cheers. |

It seems the American basketball authorities always develops an interest in American players with Nigerian roots when they become very good and are likely to don Nigerian colours . |

decatalyst: Nice thread.
Could you share step by step guide?
Rabbit type, Feed type, Feeding pattern, drugs, what to avoid, what do look out for, likely diseases.
Adding pictures to your post will make it more interesting and engaging. I grew up in a home where we bred rabbits. We bred rabbits in my dad's house at Oke Ira, Ogba from 1989 to around 2012. So I know so much about breeding rabbits. Rabbits eat a variety of things. They eat elephant grass, tridax weed, this plant that grows about with a yellow flower, plantain leaves ( when you are not able to go out to cut grass for them ) , yam peels, potato peels, pawpaw, guava, plantain peels etc. They also eat mash and pellets etc. The list of rabbit food is endless. Just do your research. Fresh clean water is needed for the rabbits daily. |

PDPGuy: Who do you guys think will be dropped from the roster for the September World Cup? I am not advocating for anyone to be dropped but since Ogoke has retired now, we should see a much younger and better player take her place in the squad. Blessing Ejiofor's position is not guaranteed. Elizabeth Balogun has to step up her game seriously. Coach Rena should scout for better players for the team and blend them in before September 2026. Cheers. |

PDPGuy: Wow!
I wish her all the best in her future endeavors. I will always be thankful for her clutch 3-pointers in several crucial games, including the last win vs The Philippines, and at the Afrobasket.
Now, the likes of Oluchi Okananwa and Grace Efosa would step into void. Good news about Sarah Ogoke. I really admire her and she has been wonderful in Nigeria colours. She has done great for Nigeria. It's time for a much younger player to step into her position in DTigress squad. Also Blessing Ejiofor does not look good enough to be in the squad. We need the best of the best in the squad for the World Cup. |

Very deep article. If you are going to teach in a private school as a young graduate, please know how to negotiate with your employer. Don't settle for less. Also, create other streams of income for yourself e g Agriculture and online writing jobs etc. You can also do private home lessons to augment your income. Think widely. Read widely about business ideas. Agriculture is the best bet for a teacher as a side business. You don't have to go to your farm daily. And Agriculture is very wide. Intelligence is vital as a private school teacher. Cheers. |

lovewins: Williams and Micheala are not making the USA team, not by a long shot so their playing for Nigeria boils down to the intersection of their willingness and Coach/NBBF extending them an invitation.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Kiki isn't making another USA team in the foreseeable future. If at all, maybe an americup tournament (a good tournament they lately only send college players to) or a world cup qualifying tournament like this one. But she's not making a world cup or Olympics roster. I just do not see it.
The reason she's in this at all is because a lot of the first team players and others ahead of her in the pecking order sat out. I also believe USA Basketball did this to tie down her allegaince. By this WNBA draft you'll be having bigs like Lauren Betts and subsequently Sarah Strong, Audi Crooks, Joyce Edwards etc. joining the queue.
I hope I'm wrong and she goes on to have a fantastic USA career, but that is likely to happen only if she becomes the top 3 in her position and I just do not see it. I personally wouldn't want her to play for Nigeria anymore. She's made her choice she should stick to it. Kiki Iriafen should have chosen Nigeria over the USA. She would had have an illustrious career with DTigress . Automatic starting role with DTigress. |

carbonado: .....we barely had a few fast break points, we knew our shots were not falling, yet, when we had the chance to run a fast break, we waited to run set plays......We playing a 2-3 zone against a team that is hot is comical.........you play a 2-3 zone against a team that is looking to get to the rim, not the other way round. If we were going to play a zone, it would have been the 3-2 zone. We don't really have a basketball system in Nigeria . In the USA and Europe, they have high school basketball leagues and Collegiate ( University ) leagues and tournaments. This is why we don't have a large pool of players to select from. The USA has pipelines all over Yankee land that produces talent yearly in their hundreds. We only rely on players with a Nigerian heritage who are born in the USA. We can conquer Africa with these Nigerian - American players but we can't conquer the world with them. Cheers. |

SolaFide: The Koreans were not marginally better than the D'tigresses. We need to get players who can hit the 3-pointers. Coach Rena must quickly draft into the team players who can do that consistently. You have said the truth. However, the USA is always robbing us of players that would have helped our cause e.g the ogwumikes, Arike Ogunbowale and now Kiki Iriafen. Macaulay is a good 3 points shooter. We have a couple of players who can shoot 3 points in the team currently but they are not getting it right. Germany and France will be tougher tests. Maybe we can beat the Phillipine ladies. We have a lot of work to do. |

lovewins: List of players that will significantly improve the roster
1. Uche Izoje: ACC First team as a freshman, won rookie of the year, led the conference in blocks and top 5 in the entire NCAA. Averaging 15.5pts on 50% FG%
2. Dominique Darius Onu: plays with Uche at Syracuse. Had a terrible season last year in USC but changed schools and suprised everyone this year.
3. Oluchi Okanawa: needs no comment. Top of the list in my opinion
4. Vernell Atamah : averaging 19 PTS in the Southland Conference this season and shooting 40% from 3s. She's also Southland Conference player of the year).
5. Candy Njoku Edokpaigbe: averaging 17.8pts this season while shooting 30% from 3s. Represented Italy at the u20 level but can still represent Nigeria.
6. Favour Nwaedozi 7. Christeen Iwuala Great list. I will research on these ladies and follow them on social media. Thanks. |

lovewins: Yesterday's game made glaring something I've known about this team, "they have a ceiling".
What that means is even if everyone on roster gives a 100% (which in practical terms isn't possible), they can't go beyond that ceiling. What's corrects this isn't more training or better game plan but roster reconstruction.
Please realize my criticism about yesterday, and to throughout these qualifiers isn't only about what they do on the floor at the material time but how I believe that will translate at the forthcoming world cup.
If your goal is to medal at the world cup then coach Rena needs to take the bold decision to improve the roster. Since she took over, we've been terrible at shooting from 3s, what that means is every serious team just need to plan their defensive strategies around the box. It means we can't space the floor as everyone knows we aren't a threat beyond the arch. This can't continue.
I had hoped that this qualifiers would have provided an opportunity for her to extend invitations to potential players who can help the team but was disappointed that wasn't the case. The only excuse I made for the NBBF is that most of the prospects are in college and will be participating in the NCAA tournament hence their absence. I hope we get to see new faces at the scheduled preseason game with the Minnesota Lynx. This FIBA World Cup qualifiers would have been the ideal setting to actually see the likes of Vera Ojenuwa and Grace Efosa in action. Ojenuwa was at the last Afrobasket and we did not get to see much of her on the court. So we don't actually know how good she is. Look at Team USA . Half of Team USA are fresh players- The best of the best of American young talent. Paige Bueckers, Kiki Iriafen and Caitlin Clark are gifted and young. They are being blended into the American women's basketball machine that wins trophies. I expected to see Hembam Wandoo and that Bayelsa born teenager who did well for the Junior DTigress at the FIBA U-16 World Cup in the squad. They need more exposure at top level tourneys to get better. They don't need to go to the World Cup , but let's see what they can offer. Cheers. |

I was hoping to see about 3-4 new players in the squad for this FIBA World Cup qualifiers. Nigeria has already qualified, so Coach Rena and DTigress have nothing to lose by testing new players to see what they can offer. I know it is good to reward loyalty but if there are players with great potentials out there, why not give them an opportunity to prove themselves ? Even Collegiate players will want to fight for a shirt to play at the FIBA World Cup . Personally, I think Ogoke's and Ejiofor's spots should have been taken by new players to see what they can offer. Our scouting seems not to be top notch . Not good enough. |

Nigeria's 70–37 win over Colombia was Rena Wakama's 14th victory since her appointment in 2023.

lanresz: Where in Canada is minimum wage above $5,000 per month? $60,000 a year? If you are open minded, you can earn more than that amount but not on minimum wage.
I won't call the person that start the topic an emergency lover of Nigeria. I'm a lover of Nigeria but I won't compare the price of goods in Nigeria with looking at affordability.
The challenge, in my view, is that despite all the natural advantages we have in Nigeria—no harsh winters, no hurricanes, and only short periods of extreme heat—we still haven’t fully utilized them. Nigeria should be a major global producer of food.
Sometimes I walk into stores here and see oranges imported from South Africa, Morocco, and other countries. Yet when I was growing up in Nigeria, my grandfather had about six orange trees on his farm. Orange season ran from October to December, and he didn’t even treat them as commercial crops. Most of the oranges went to waste.
If we were truly serious about agriculture, we could generate significant foreign exchange from farm products—far more than we’re doing today. You have spoken well. I believe so much in Agriculture. Nigeria has lots of potentials to earn lots of money from exporting all kinds of crops. The biggest bane is insecurity. |
