Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Will Lose by Reese1: 7:21pm On Aug 29, 2008
@ merge, how has Clinton been treated unfairly? What I've observed is Obama being gracious to the Clinton family throughout this. If anything I'll say the Clintons have been the ones sulking, with a little bit of bitterness added to it, up until the convention of course.

So I'm not sure I've noticed any unfairness coming from the Obama camp towards Clinton.
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Will Lose by Reese1: 7:10pm On Aug 29, 2008
Also, I think McCain is seriously insulting the intelligence of women for him to assume that female Clinton suppoters and other women will automatically vote for him regardless of the issues.  angry
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Will Lose by Reese1: 7:07pm On Aug 29, 2008
Just my observation on this election so far,

The only thing I've noticed throughout this election process is the way Clinton supporters have been made to look like people who can't think for themselves.

What does it say then about the intelligence level of Clinton supporters that just because Sarah Palin happens to be a woman, then they'll rush to vote republican regardless of what her values are?  huh

Clinton supporters have been made to look like sheep throughout this election process as if they have no way of reasoning for themselves and voting for someone who has the same values as them.

If they voted for Clinton because she possesses certain values, agenda or whatever and Clinton herself has endorsed Obama, saying she believes he'll take the country in the same direction she wanted it to go, then why on earth would any Clinton supporter still flood to vote republican just because Sarah Palin a woman, and not because she has any solid plans as a VP candidate?

If such is the case, then we can safely assume that the only reason Clinton supporters voted for her is because she's a woman.  undecided and not for because of the direction she wants to take the nation.
EducationRe: Nigerians And Spelling Errors! It Keeps Getting Worse! by Reese1: 3:59pm On Aug 29, 2008
Well, I think if someone is gonna start a thread talking about others and their spelling errors, they better hit that preview button several times and make sure every 't' is crossed and every 'i' is dotted.

But then, after getting called out on your own mistakes, if you're gonna turn around and say that no one is above mistakes, then this thread should never have existed to begin with.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Signs Nuclear Agreement With Iran by Reese1: 3:50pm On Aug 29, 2008
I just refuse to believe that the only stake that Iran has in this deal is their generous offer to help Nigeria, trust me, there's something more to this. And with that Alhaminejad's radical way of thinking, I can't help but think it's ominous. I hope not.  huh

I can't help but think our so-called leaders have just been taken and mugufied to the highest extent. Some big belle fool just signed a deal with more clauses, ifs, buts, and fine prints, that the true ramifications of Iran's true stake in this will be revealed and come bite us in the behind years later.

And like someone else also said before, we lack the discipline when it comes to maintaining the basic resources we have at hand already, now they wanna play with the big boys on the nuclear playground?  undecided
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Signs Nuclear Agreement With Iran by Reese1: 3:29pm On Aug 29, 2008
Whoa, Why Iran though?!?! Let's just assume there's great, honorable intentions all around, but WHY FREAKING IRAN?!, Why would they decide to trust that Alhamenijad (not sure of the spelling), Gosh, Nigerian leaders and their judgment, or lack of  huh

One has to think of one’s future especially someone like me that desires to get married and have children,” one of them said.
Though I got married after my university education, I still engage in it now because old habits die hard.
These 2 comments are so disturbing!  angry These 2 idiots are subjecting the lives of innocent women to the possiblity of diseases 'cuz I'm sure there will be some unprotected sex with these other men they sleep with.  angry

It sickens me that these "in the closet" gay men or whatever are hurting more and more of our women because they want to do their nonensense with their men and at the same time have sex with a woman who has no clue that the fool she's with is living a double life.

If you wanna have sex with men, fine that's your business; but to then hide it and still have sex with a woman too?, playing russian roulette with her life?, That's cruel  angry  I am aware there are people who consider themselves bi-sexuals but at least they are honest with their potential partners about what they do!

WOMEN BEWARE!! THIS IS SERIOUS, Protect yourselves from these predators cuz that's what they are. They should be locked up for life for that mess.
HealthRe: Is It Right For Hospitals To Refuse To Treat Gunshot Victims? by Reese1: 2:12pm On Aug 28, 2008
As far as I am aware, In the general sense (whether in Nigeria or anywhere else), yes, hospitals can turn away patients, but not when there is clearly a need for emergency medical treatment.

In non-emergency situations, it would depend on whether the hospital is public or private. In a situation where there is not an emergency, a private hospital has the right to turn away anyone they want for whatever reason. It would be illegal for a public hospital to do that though.

In that situation you described though, of someone clearly bleeding to death from an injury no public or private hospital has the right to turn that person away. That's against what they should be representing.  angry

If they nurse the person back to health, there are no implications on the hospital, they're just doing their job.

All that stuff about police report, money, etc is secondary when a life needs to be saved.
NYSCIs Nysc A Requirement For Seeking Public Office In Nigeria? by Reese1(op): 12:52am On Aug 28, 2008
I've been wondering what the criteria is for Nigerians abroad who would like to run for public office in Nigeria. I think I read something on here before about NYSC being a requirement but I wanted to find out if anyone had any insight. I've been on the Lagos State Govt. website as an example to see if they had any info but got nothing.
PoliticsRe: Jjmm by Reese1: 12:37am On Aug 28, 2008
Regarding the tax issue, people need some kind of income before they can pay tax , and since majority of the freaking population is unemployed anyway, it'll be kinda hard to get that tax, the whole thing is like a vicious cycle undecided

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Didn't School In Nigeria But Looking For Work There: What Are The NYSC Rules? by Reese1(op): 1:42pm On Jul 28, 2008
Thank you for that info. I just went on the website and I think making it mandatory is ridiculous cuz honestly at this point the NYSC is a waste of my time all in the name of working in Nigeria.

I can see if I just finished school abroad and I wanna come home to begin my career in Nigeria, yeah that might make some sense; but what of people who have built careers in other countries and want to come back home; they're gonna have to go to some youth service corp?? Umm, okay. huh

Where you expect the govt. to be sharp, they're not sharp undecided Areas where you expect flexibility from them, that's when every muscle and tendon in their body rises up. shocked

I also think they're inhibiting the potential influx of people as well that would wanna work there. But anyway, there has to be a way, I'll figure something out.

Thanks again for the info.
Jobs/VacanciesDidn't School In Nigeria But Looking For Work There: What Are The NYSC Rules? by Reese1(op): 12:41pm On Jul 28, 2008
Hello all,

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before but I'm hoping someone will have some info about this.

Alright, I left Nigeria for the US. after my JS2 year, right? Now I'm looking for work in Nigeria (after completing middle school, high school, Bachelors, MBA, and working for over 7 years in the US.) and I'm trying to find out what the NYSC rules are.

One of my friends currently just moved back to Nigeria and got a job and from what she said, there's some kind of exempt form you can fill if you didn't complete your schooling in Nigeria. But she's going through a bit of a hassle with her NYSC stuff now I guess since she only had two months left in her NYSC program before she travelled abroad. But I don't know what the deal with hers is,

But someone else told me that since I didn't complete University in Nigeria, I won't be required to go through the NYSC.

So I guess I'm wondering if anyone knows for sure how it works, but PLEASE tell me I won't have go through NYSC just to work in Nigeria when I've already been working all these years in another country!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Sending A Thank You Note After A Job Interview by Reese1: 2:51pm On Jul 23, 2008
Well, from my experience, sending a thank you note does not guarantee you the job, but it could definitely help.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Sending A Thank You Note After A Job Interview by Reese1: 2:23pm On Jul 23, 2008
Sending a thank you note is very professional and courteous and can be the "deal sealer" when it comes down to you or someone else gettin the job.

One, it keeps you fresh in the employer's mind and it paints a very good picture of you that you actually care enough and took the time out to write a thank you note.

And besides, there are so many thank you note templates on the internet that you don't even have to think of what to write anymore, just copy and paste and modify to your situation.

So I say, if you really want the job, send a thank you note.
PoliticsRe: 80 Per Cent Of Nigerian Youths Are Jobless, Says Minister by Reese1: 4:00pm On Jul 21, 2008
Well, it's nice that Minister Akinlabi Olasunkanmi can cite those numbers for us, but the most important question is, what is he and all his cohorts planning to do about it? huh These ministers run off all these statistics, figures, percentages etc to us all the time reminding us of the societal ills we experience but they never have a first step to a solution to the problem. angry

I'm sick and tired of this government failing our youths repeatedly! angry They have done them such a disservice,

PoliticsRe: How Much Are We Contributing To Development Back Home? by Reese1: 11:09am On Jul 18, 2008
This topic has actually been discussed in some form or another on Nairaland and I know there are actually several people on the board that have contributed in their own ways and are currently doing what they can to help out as much as possible back home in the form of businesses and other things they got going on.

Personally, I have come to the conclusion that no matter what, I can not get down or feel guilty about the fact that I got an opportunity to go abroad being that out of all my relatives that I grew up with, God would so have it that I am the only one to get that opportunity so far,

However, that being the case, I know I've spent this many years in the US for a reason, and I know so much good can come out of the things I know now that I can implement to help out back home.

The only thing I, or anyone that happens to live abroad can do is their sincere best. Nigeria is still home to me, regardless of what passport color I use, but you can't have the midset of saving the entire country of Nigeria, but you can do something, no matter how little.

I know what I'm good at, and what moves me; and I know there are so many needs in the country that I can use the skills I have and that can help out in my own little way.

That's really what everyone can do, find a need that speaks to your strenghts and what not, and tackle it. Even if you only end up changing the quality of life for 5 people, it's more to speak of than what they currently are going through.

I think I'm rambling now, so I'll stop grin

Congratulations! When did they notify you that you won? I know they said they would send letters between May and September. I don't know what form you're referring to but you should go to their website and they should have instructions there on how to fill it properly.
TravelRe: American Citizenship by Reese1: 9:18am On Jul 15, 2008
American citizenship has great benefits. The opportunitites and doors  it can open for your family, children etc are numerous, even if you don't particularly care for it. So I say if you have the opportunity to get American citizenship, please do it. You can still be based in Naija and do all you want to do for Naija, and with an American citizenship in hand, you have access to a whole lot of opportunities worldwide.

Just do enough studying for it, and be confident, DO NOT LIE!!! If they ask you something and you don't know the answer, say you don't know. I repeat DO NOT LIE!!
TravelRe: Mcdonalds coming to Africa: Delivered To Your Doorstep! by Reese1: 9:05am On Jul 15, 2008
I also don't care for McDonald's or Burger King coming over to Naija. I'd rather we have some home grown restaurants, eateries that we should support.
RomanceRe: Your Boyfriend"s Ex by Reese1: 2:43pm On Jul 11, 2008
Hmmm, , they might still feel something for themselves, if only slightly, and if the chance comes up, who knows?, something may or may not go down. All I can say is, GIRL, SHINE YO EYE!!

If his ongoing friendship with his ex makes you uncomfortable, YOU MUST LET HIM KNOW, be completely honest, and just have a frank discussion with him about it; hear his side also, etc, and and ask him to decrease the amount of time they communicate, if it'll help things out a bit.

I don't think that's too unreasonable a request to grant for someone you love.

I'm sure he has no intentions of straying, but you don't know if the ex still has the fire of passion burning for him. shocked Just tell him how you feel and trust him to do the right thing by you.

The key is communication,
RomanceRe: What Is Your Idea Of The Perfect Girl Or The Perfect Guy & The Perfect Romance. by Reese1: 1:52pm On Jul 11, 2008
Being that there is no such thing as perfect guy/girl/romance, as noted, I'm guessing what you're trying to ask is what your mate does/has done, etc that makes them perfect for you or that makes your romance perfect to you? Is that right?  undecided

Well,  I realize my fiance is perfect for me everytime, I get in my moody phases, and I just lash out for no reason at him, yet he still comforts me, waits on me hand and foot until my mood changes; I don't feel like making dinner (just being lazy really  grin), he flies into the kitchen and whips up a nice meal, etc. pretty much making me feel like I'm the best thing since he discovered oxygen  grin I mean, there are countless stories, but ya know, can't recount them all.

So, that's what makes him perfect for me.  cheesy And I make sure to let him know I appreciate him as much as I can.  cool
RomanceRe: Can You Date Someone You Can't Marry? by Reese1: 1:01pm On Jul 11, 2008
No, I can't date anyone I can't marry. There is no point in even begin dating someone you know right off the bat that you can't marry. Why waste each other's time when you know your desire is to get married someday?

But of course, if no red flag comes up the first time you meet that person, (e.g., he or she is a devil worsipper  shocked ), then you can begin dating the person just to get to know each other more and then make that decision as you go along.

But if you don't see marriage in your future at all, then I guess you can just date around for fun. But you would have to tell your potential dates that you're just having fun, and are not trying to marry anybody now or ever lol  grin

TravelRe: You Know You Have Arrived In Lagos When : by Reese1: 3:26pm On Jul 10, 2008
You know you have arrived in Lagos when:

-Before your plane even lands, you've already experienced death by heat smiley

-Upon arriving at the airport, you're in the line to go past immigration and a group of people behind you just start saying "Awon oloshi", "Oloriburuku ni awon people yi now!" Bi won she ma gba owo ni o wa lokan won, oshe oju wonko wonko *hiss* , just straight cursing out the airport staff lol grin

- When you finally get to "baggage claim naija style", you get in shine your eye mode real quick to make sure your bag has not been nicely taken. Scratch that, you better be in shine your eye mode as soon as your feet touch the ground.

-So you finally get through immigration, baggage claim, you're minding your business walking out of the airport, and some random dude walks up to you asking you to show some jagbajantis documents. angry

-You walk out of the airport and there are no less than 300 people standing outside the airport at 7:30pm at night just waiting, and waiting, and waiting, huh

-Your phone goes dead (in my case) and you're looking for a phone to use; about 6 different guys come up to you instantly (they must have smelled a money making opportunity grin ) to ask you if your phone is dead and you can use theirs, for a fee. undecided

-Your ride is an hour and a half late to pick you up cuz of "go-slow" lol
Car TalkRe: How To Raise A Car Loan? by Reese1: 10:34am On Jul 08, 2008
As said previously, it's not advisable to finance anything (beyond housing) in some cases. Just save up the money you need to get what you really want and pay cash.

Hello Sajani, I registered for the JINE North America event on May 30th, didn't get any response beyond an e-mail saying that they've recieved my registration, and then I re-registered again on June 30 with an updated CV. Are they actually going to send us any information so we'll know what our next steps should be?

I know registration closes on July 11 but I'm not sure what the process is as I've been waiting for any sort of info for a while now. I'd really appreciate any insight you could provide. Thanks a bunch!
