Those calling Adaka a coward are silly. Know this if there was to be a coward, it would be Ojokwu who went on exile at the heat of war and NMK who exiled to Isreal at only a show of force. Adaka fought till the end, he was in the frontline of battle, not at a radio station or from an office. 1 Like |

Xisnin:The problem is you people. Una just wake up one morning and boom! You're making claims that ND is going along with you no negotiation, nothing. Igbo's generally are manupulative and very controlling. There's no way we can move with those kind of people, they dont even trust themselves, how can we trust them? I've lived in . Enugu and Imo for more than 5yrs each. So I know what am saying. Check out this thread alone, see the set of people who has insulted others the more, guess the tribe. Are those the kind of peopke we will seceed with? Now when humans are supose to me more civilized. No wonder Adaka, was happy with the creation of Rivers state. 2 Likes |

The stage was set, . Tafawa Belewa was assasinitated by a bloody coup led by Nezeogwu, gen Aguiyi Ironsi took over as head of state. But in the Niger Delta region, something was brewing (hot coffee infact) Adaka leader of the NDVS had resigned his job sold his properties and returned to his hometown in Kiama, where he recruited and trained his soldiers for 6 months. The battle however lasted for 12days after which he was arrested alongside his deputies and sentenced to death. Yakubu upturned their death sentences and subsequently created Rivers State and made Spiff an Ijo man the governor. It was a bitter sweet victory. Even though they lost the battle of Yenegoua, they won the war of self rule and determination; but did they? 1 Like

No sir! It wasn't in 1962 Boro began the internal cacus whose primary objective was to " organise ourselves into a strong political force to struggle for our self determination." Adaka with his assistant Owonaro went to country after country seeking suport, even went about indoctrinating Ijo's all over the West African continent on the importance of the struggle. Owanoro later went on to form the WXYZ, to prepare the minds of the Ijo youths for what was coming!! 1 Like |

Here's the thing, there was no single industry situated in the region, they were all situated in the outside Niger Delta, the fishery industry was 80 miles away at Aba, tie boat yard at Opobo was headquatered at Enugu, with most of its staffs mostly non-Ijo. More marginalzation were felt in 1959 when the Niger Delta Congress won only one seat at the Fedral house through Melford Okilo. In 1962 eastern region election and 1964 fedral election NDC lost to the. Igbo dominated NCNC. In the eastern region house they had four against 110, and 2 out of 58 in the mid western house. 1958 Adaka led a delegation to London, to look into the plight of the minorities, leading to the set up of Willinks commission and the institution of Niger Delta Development Board. On the 23rd of Febuary, 1966, 'operation 0' began with the intent of dislodging fedral police taking over Yenegoua before 12am. The battle of Yenegoua, was led by Adaka Boro, general officer of Niger Delta Volunteer Service, with a strenght of 159 soldiers. The battle was lost Adaka and his troops were captured. Boro was a dismissed police officer who eventually procceded to UNN to study chemistry and eventually became the SUG president. He noticed however that their was a big dinstiction in national politics controlled by- Hausa, Igbo and Yourba. Ijo been the fourth largest ethnic group had no one in the top echloen of Nigerian politics to drive the Ijo nation to prominence and freedom. The Ijo's numbering about two million, had no adquate infrastructure, empowerment, educational ability etc. Ijo nationality, were under the Eastern region and tha was another undoing to their struggle. 1 Like |

"Today is a great day... not because we are going to bring the heavens down, but because we are going to demostrate to the world how we feel about oppression." These words were made in on Febuary 23rd 1966 at 3pm, at about 5pm the first shots were fired to begin the first struggle against miniority oppression in Nigeria. This piece is a result of extensive research on struggle of the Ijo, Niger Delta minority struggle led by Adaka Boro. It also sheds light on the Eastern (Igbo) region view on self determination. I will try to make it as brief as, but I will also make a summary. 6 Likes 1 Share

2 months into the relationship, I noticed some changes in me about her. I started getting a little upset whenever I see her talking to another guy for long; caught myself staring at her occansionaly during lectures, got angry whenever she wouldnt spend the weekend at my place, I began to enjoy the face she makes, when describing how fustrating her day was...believe just trekking for 2mins is fustrating to her. Long story short Ladies and Gentlemen, I had fallen in... But I couldn't I'm suppose to be a player, at a piont I couldn't hold my feelings anymore. When I first told her- 'I love you' she cried...did I mention she was emotional? I became more focused in her feelings and less on her money. Sadly, after school our goals changed and we grew apart, but we still communicate regularly though. Disclaimer: This story is totally the imagination of the writer. |

by her whatsapp message mainly saying she had fun last night...though she most of the talking. We agreed to meet again, she chose an expensive joint we agreed to share the payment equally. I got to find out that she was a little naive when it comes to relationships, she has been in couple of them but never found the spark, and has never fallen in love...so she claimed. She was rich(parents wealth) and naive, and I need a couple of bucks every now and then, so... After a couple of weeks we started dating. She began to grow feelings for me, she was very open financially with me to the extent that I began to control her finances. She practically moved into my house (I stay alone) all her foodstuffs, some cloths and other items were at my place. I enjoyed all the care and attention I got, while I managed to be discreet about my outside affairs. I somehow convienced myself that I didnt love her that my been seen around her was just to survive through school -and for brag rights...so I thought. |

In the spirit of valentine, I would love to share my love story. It happened when I was in school, at my year 3. I'm your average guy, 6ft tall; chocolate skined; bearded and cute. Tammy on the other hand, was a beautiful petite, the rich kid classy girl type; and that was why I despised her. She belonged to all those classy, sausy, bigger than everybody, girls solority. Now the main story. I had this friend Jerry very popular in school, we once went on an outing, and Jerry invited some girls along, Tammy happened to be one, she sat next to me, being coursemates it wasn't really difficult for us to find a common lecturer and coursemate we both found annoying. I noticed, she was a lively person, the more tipsy she got, the livelier she became...Of course. She doesnt stay out too late, so she left around 10, I walked her to the where she would get a an okada, exchanged numbers and bade her farewell. I was greeted the next morning... |

Isaac Adaka Jasper Boro, fought for the marginalised Ijos, created a way for the creation of NDDC . Engaged fedral troops for 12 days until he was captured, which eventualy led to the creation of Rivers State. Jack Ekpebu my grand father. Fought in the second world war. In the royal navy, all the ships he fought in, never lost a sailor onboard. He was guided by the spirits of the seas-beign of course an Ijo man. 2 Likes 1 Share |
