Ozumba Mbadiwe. Where my office was all those years ago. Daily commute from Ikeja till the wheels fell off due to the stress of waking by 4 am to beat traffic.

And on the way back, one lousy bus or truck breaks down somewhere in Ikoyi and the whole island is on lockdown till close to midnight....what a way to live....totally unsustainable...,had to leave. Life is not only about quantity but quality.

Today it is fifteen minutes to anywhere I regularly go.

Oga, those you elect are called SERVANTS.
You don't elect a master. A master assumes power BY HIMSELF.

If a people decide to have a person lead them from amongst them, how does the person assume power by himself? Not possible. He has to appeal to the rest to MAKE HIM.

So he is not a master as it is not human nature for a man to willingly submit himself, to subjugate himself to serve another.

Even your holy books say this, that he who wants to lead must become the CHIEF SERVANT.

So I don't know where this feudal ideology comes from equating leadership with kingship or sovereignty. It is an abberation in a democracy.

Politicians are Chief Servants. The next level under them in government are called CIVIL SERVANTS. All these groups are to do one thing and one thing alone. To ORGANISE SOCIETY, period. Nothing more. That is service not ownership, not lordship, not mastery, just service.

You are the owners of the country. It is your property, it is your money, it is your power, it is your business and you can fire them just as you hired them.

It is not only alcohol, it is everything food and beverages. Once it becomes popular it becomes a target to these criminals. Nothing in the market is immune, even water.

Hmmmm, the only way out now is to restrict ourselves to drinking only clean water. Nothing is safe for drinking anymore in Nigeria, apart from water. Last week, I was at Garki Hospital, and the number of people I saw in their dialysis ward got me really scared.

That is where we are headed, a total collapse of the food and beverages sector. If no single product in the market is valid then the whole system collapses.

I think genuine manufacturers have a serious role to play in being on the frontline of this war (if. indeed we are fighting) by supplying Intel to the authorities because they will know when their products are being copied and will have an idea where this is being done through their distribution chains.

And if any regulatory official is found to leak information the criminals, they should face the severest of penalties because the big syndicates will certainly have moles in the halls of authority.

It is not just to seize.
It is to ensure justice.
It is to apprehend and prosecute with severity making an example of the criminals that will be a deterrent.

Punishments for these sort of things should be at least at par with those for manslaughter because that is exactly where the story will have ended, someone losing his life.

I sure hope there will be a follow up story on this matter to ensure the criminals ate indeed caught.

In all this, Nigerians should realize one thing.
The good student of history will know that in this 5th Republic (perhaps even before) all governments deteriorate with time. For those governments that have successfully navigated to a second term, no second term has ever been better than the first.

The peak of performance has always been in the few months before the general elections. It was so for OBJ, GEJ and Buhari. I see the traits in this government and I am certain that we are experiencing the best of the Tinubu government.

So just be informed. The 'second term' is always for them. To pay political debts, to recover political capital and to establish political insurance. Very little more happens.

Be informed. Nothing fundamentally better is going to happen if you elect this government back into power. You will see for yourselves.

You guys don’t know the far reaching effects of bad leadership on a nation. Most of these guys are tech savvy and hence can work and be trained to be experts in ICT. But alas, no power:
/electricity, no enabling environment, no incentive for hard work, no exemplary leadership etc. Take a look at India, a major supplier of ICT manpower to the west. Nigeria has the same potential but bad and unpatriotic leaders have become weapons fashioned by the devil against the people.

That is what I continue to say.
Leadership is everything.
It is the only effective, quick acting solution to turning the course of a nation around for good.

That is not the issue.
The issue is clear.
City fielded for years players and managers they simply could not afford.to buy with the real revenues they were earning.

In sports the quality of athletes on offer is a critical factor in winning. If other teams cheated in the same way by looking for finances under the table they will have outbidded City in some cases, offering better transfer deals including better wages.

When you hear clubs put in a bid and then pull out because they were out bidded, it is because they simply cannot afford them. And this was true to clubs like Arsenal in the Wenger time and he did express his frustration back then that City were getting cash from somewhere he could not prove.

City is the sole reason throughout Europe that transfer fees today are outrageous and beyond the capacity of most traditional, frontline clubs.

Imagine a club like Manchester United earning some of the largest revenues in world club soccer yet they cannot compete with City for talent, though City is just about in the top ten revenue he wratorw.

Something doesn't add up.

I think I like the multi-year points deductions. It will keep them in the Premiership to avoid them overwhelming the EFL, but will ensure they have scant chance of winning the title for a long while.

You can imagine all the title winning bonuses of players and club side revenues lost because of the City fraud. Even if the authorities don't act appropriately there will be several lawsuits filed against City once the appeal is done and dusted.

Whether the naira becomes more valuable than the dollar is all about balance of trade. Export more, import less and the naira will rise (though exporters will not like this).

Reserves are all about stability which is key for decision making at all levels of businesses and industries that interact with the dollar. Foreign investors look at this and are more comfortable with the fact that if they put their money in the country they are more likely to get it out.

However like I said there are many more factors that make a healthy reserve of any use to an economy.

For Nigeria defeat poverty, external forex reserve should be minimum of $1 trillion. This is achievable through manufacturing, exportation, less importation birth control.

And this is the pathway out of austerity, what government should be investing it's scarce earnings in....what we should be doing right now with all our night and all we have, not an emphasis on so called infrastructure, which is just a cover story for issuing contracts and receiving kickbacks.

Good one. At least it will stabilize the value of the naira. Can't think of any other benefit that is not countered by the poor state of the economy making the whole issue not that relevant.

When your car, or your house or your washing machine or your body begins to make unusual noises you know something is wrong. You know something is going to fail.

And if that thing means the world to you. If it means your survival and wellbeing the best thing to do is to stop and check what is wrong before it breaks down completely.

The society has given these people in government enough warning signs that people have reached their breaking point but they choose to ignore it and make jokes about it....okay...

Is this the best we can do as a nation. I mean, Just imagine people of other nations listening to this and wondering what kind of people live in that country called Nigeria.

If you can have people at the highest levels of government talking like this in public, without thought, without circumspection, without empathy....how will they reason out the plight of the average citizen, how will they strive and I mean work and work and work for the betterment of the country like their counterparts in other climes.

Folks, these guys just do not care.
Better find your way to live as if there is no government. Because no one is working for you.

Was listening to this on the radio this morning while driving. Was so livid I almost hit a kerb. The other Senator (don't know the person) was pleading for that....man to listen to reason and show empathy but the Senate President was adamant at making a caricature of the whole thing.... His constituents, particularly those living in the FCT should be ashamed....embarrassed by their offerings to the centre.

The US inflation rate is 3.4 percent, while growth is 2.3 percent meaning they are getting poorer at a rate of 1.1 percent year on year. That is why a good number if Americans are screaming their heads off that they want Trump out.

On the other hand we are getting poorer at a rate ten times that of the US and we say we are doing well....

You fall into poverty due to government actions and you still queue up to vote that government back for a second strafing run on your economy....and here I thought black magic was pure fantasy....oh well...

Why will anyone want to increase the volume of blood in the body anyway. It will simply make your heart work harder and that increased pressure is a recipe for all sorts of other problems.

The so called strict rules are to protect the game. To make it sustainable. Such that you are spending what you are earning. So that in the case the money bag eventually pulls the plug the club and by extension the league wouldn't collapse with it.

The authorities cannot control whether the owners will continue. If they are foreigners they can walk away at any time like we have seen with owners of certain clubs like Leicester leaving the club unable to sustain itself and damaging the brand of the league. So the league has to protect itself. That is the sustainability side of things.

Then you have the competitiveness side of things. and the need to create as even a playing field as possible to prevent the game being for sale. If teams are allowed to use whatever means at their disposal to run theur clubs they can theoretically buy out trophies through signing the best players, and the best managers.

So clubs are limited to a investing according to their true worth on the market. They are expected to raise their own money independently of ownership. All aspects of ownership investment is treated with the exacting accounting standards like any other formal business.

People just don't walk away from profit. Something is wrong somewhere.

Nice quotes, but the problem for Nigeria is that it essentially leaves the government with no option but to borrow and borrow and borrow more money when the oil money or revenue is not enough, which is basically 90% of the time.

(Also Thatcher did introduce the poll tax in 1990, because of declining revenues , which led to riots, and which eventually brought down her government).

Japan has a declining population, and by extension, a declining tax revenue base, which means it's government has to borrow more and more money to pay for the pensions and welfare and government projects. Nigeria has a poor tax to gdp ratio, which forces government borrowing up when oil revenues are low, leading to the massive debt we have now...that ironically is forcing government borrowing up

It would be a good thing if the over 70 percent of working NIgerians who do not pay tax because of working in the informal sector pay some tax...as it may reduce government borrowing (and force the government to be more accountable, once people see money leaving their pockets and nothing happening...well what happened in France would be child's play compared to what would happen in NIgeria).

As much as people complain about taxes worldwide, if every Nigerian that paid tax stopped paying tax, government borrowing would increase even further, until the people who lend us money would get tired of giving us free money all the time. Happy you acknowledge that reckless taxation can bring down a government. In Africa this amounts to both through the ballot and other means.

No one is going to understand or care whether the government is making revenue or not. As long as they are not transparent in receipts and spending and callous in not bearing equal economic burdens they can preach to donkeys for all I care.

Government does not belong to any one person or political party. If they cannot solve the problem Nigerians have a right to try others.

People elect leaders for their own sake, nothing else. We didn't elect you to be wasting our resources on useless, grandiose,elephant projects or on your ambition.

Have you heard of more notorious massacres for a while, no. The US message has gotten through and the government must have called certain groups to order. Groups that they knew all along were carrying out these massacres but could not act for whatever reason on them.
