That is what you get by voting in establishment people. People in love with the status-quo. Who don't see anything wrong with the way the country goes. People that have been cultured by the system. This is what you get when you vote for a smooth transition of waste and naked corruption. Whereas people who truly feel they want a new experience on the other hand set out to clean the Augean Stable and toss out the trash. One does not need to be a soothsayer to predict where this country is headed or have a doctorate in economics to know Nigeria is about a basket case. For these basket cases of governmental waste will NEVER lead to a better economy. The more they claim to save, the more they claim to generate, they are sure to throw away. Poverty is clearly written into our Constitution, supported by law (the budget is a document of law) and approved by the people (through their Legislators). 2 Likes 1 Share |

Hmm....you are in good company. The Legislators have equally bought themselves billions of naira worth of vehicles while paying scant attention to the economy or the citizens living under the cudgel. So it is a Nigerian thing. We operate a feudal system of existence and if you are like me and do not see anything wrong with the Legislators lapping it up, then I am sorry, your boss is right to so what he pleases and if.you are not satisfied..... go to court. ..... oh, I heard the judges so the same thing..... oh well....pray to God....as Nigerians who vote in bad leaders always advice. |

They say Productivity is the direct antidote to inflation. This is five months after energy and currency liberalisation (trigger of inflation). Where is the productivity that is being cultivated by this government. Where is the direction this government is headed economically that the average citizen can tap into to produce stuff and create wealth. Which industry or industrial sector is prepped to begin mass employment? Particularly sectors that produce tangible goods geared either towards import replacement or export. Which sector is being prepped to engage Nigeria's competitive advantage? They talk about mining for example and the next thing you hear is German cartography. The same old template of inviting foreign participation that will invariably lead to cartels, exploitation and valueless exportation. While the right template will be to start with the demand side of the value chain. That is seeding the establishment of small scale processing plants and then organizing mining cooperatives to feed these plants and a metals exchange to guarantee fair prices and stable market. Same thing in agriculture, same thing in construction, all mass employers of labour and potentially huge foreign exchange earners DIRECTLY INTO THE POCKETS OF THE CITIZENS. But this are the things that are discussed and debated BEFORE elections. Every candidate bringing REAL ideas, detailed plans to the table of scrutiny so that the people vote in whose ideas best serve their hopes. So instead of hiring musical bands, court jesters and comedians to the campaign train like Wike aptly demonstrated, they spend the money hiring experts in all fields they hope to demonstrate. So that a Wike for instance will have had a solid blueprint to work with now that he is in office. Not what we see today, a nation that continues to decay while the elected leaders run around looking for solutions. 1 Like |

Herdamorlar: Elections have consequences. We are all here by choice. The overwhelming choices of anointing leaders that have little capacity to handle things on our behalf. Bad economies do not just drop out of the sky. They are as a result of one step after the other in a wrong direction. Shepherds that have led this nation into the desert to find pasture. 3 Likes |

This man never talks straight. His report on what is happening in his State always wears political sunshades. One minute the situation is returned to normal, the next he is wailing about the barbarians banging at the gates of the city. What these politicians do not realise is that democracy demands transparency to get things done. Leadership that is constantly factual in its assessment of governance. And this is because advocacy, civil pressure on government rides on clear leadership signals. He has no army, no police of his own and scant resources to handle the problem. What is there to hide and play politics with. Tell it as it is so that Nigerians will drag the central government kicking and screaming to attend to the issues if need be. |

Charly68: What do you expect when you vote and defend the kind of governments that seek to maintain the status quo at all costs. You are asking for radical reforms from establishment politicians...? looking for virgins in a maternity ward (or how is it said) What have you seen so far of this government that is RADICALLY DIFFERENT from all before it. Same wash and wear policies, same contract and consultant led, same peddlers of influence, same pork for the boys, same wasteful, overbloated rent seeking system. We in Abuja have seen padlocks and cobwebs on the once bubbling offices of a certain group of people and new ones appear to be spring up because a new sheriff is in town. Very soon the clock will strike 6 months, then one year in office, then two, three, and another set of excuses will arrive from the kitchen of political deception and propaganda for the hungry to lap up and start the macabre electoral dance once again. Elections after elections, government after government, yet the decline of the country is sure and steady. Th only thing improving, expanding and strengthening in Nigeria is the tolerance to suffering of the hapless citizen. 1 Like 1 Share |

One good thing that may come out of all this may be a decoupling of the economy away from a government centred one to a private sector one. A future where the CBN acts as a regulator not a market participant. Where their primary business will be more about the naira rather than the dollar. Where Nigerian banks will be forced to fund the real, productive sector with a strong bias for export led enterprises, simply because they cannot get their dollar fill elsewhere. 1 Like |

Tareq1105: As we speak officials of this government are mopping up foreign exchange. Are they saboteurs too? The question is: Do you blame them. Is the purchase of the dollar A BAD THING. Think about it carefully. After all government SHOULD have its savings in foreign exchange so it too should BUY on our behalf to take charge of the economy. Will you not advise your State government to buy up dollars so that inflation does not eat up its resources? Will you not advise the company you work for to buy up foreign assets so that it can pay your salaries in this depressed economy. Will you not save part of your salary in foreign exchange so that your wife does not chase you out of the house when you cannot provide sustainable soup money. The fact is that buying up to save is not a crime, speculating is NOT a crime but a legitimate way every economic unit hedges, insures, protects (whatever you like to call it) itself from devaluation and inflation. So the problem is never the markets. It is never the buying and selling of foreign exchange, neither is the problem the hoarding, warehousing or whatever (you many even say the government grows envious by the day that it does not command the biggest hoard of foreign exchange, and why should it.) The problem is at the gates of the market, the GENERATION, the EARNING, the PRODUCTION, the INVESTMENT, the SPENDING of the foreign exchange that matters. To be brutally honest, how does the government spend its foreign exchange that it cannot recharge its reserves, is it not by largely unproductive ventures, largely inefficient ventures, corruption, etc. Someone just said the millions going to SUV's. That is how government undermines its economic advantage, empties its coffers and becomes a minority player in the foreign exchange scape. Who else in Nigeria will spend such HUGE amounts on administrative costs, cost centres that earn absolutely nothing. That is simply why government will continue to lack and the rest of Nigeria will continue to have. In hard times one responds properly by saving, while the other acts irresponsibly by frittering away the little it has. 1 Like 1 Share |

First time a government in the history of this country is openly admitting that the illegal, black, unofficial (whatever you call it) economy is bigger than the one it claims to control and that the CBN is truly a minority player in the economy of Nigeria just as I have been asserting these past few weeks. (if anyone doubted the failure of the Emefiele initiative to mop up the naira as a real sign). I think by waving the white flag and accepting that corruption has won I think the negotiations it is calling for with economic terrorists and saboteurs may just bring them out.... from the shadows at least. The question will now be as is said in the movies, "what are ya gonna do abourit.....' |

Angelfrost: I agree on the midfield part. The last decent 10 they had was Cesc Fabregas. They usually go for power midfielders in the ilk of Lampard rather than creative ball passers that can unlock defences and hold up attacks for a sustained periods. Thru should take a page out of City. Their midfield is the resason for their absolute dominance and boat load of goals. No creativity in midfield, no goals, simple. 4 Likes |
