Glad to see soccer taking its place amongst the leading sports in the US. The Big Three has now become the Big Four and it is just a matter of time before Soccer moves above and beyond the clout of Baseball..... Did someone say Ice Hockey.....naaaaa! Any sport a black man cannot play is automatically diminished in stature. |
Throwback:If you cannot understand the correlation between politics and governance then citizenship is a waste. If your democracy is not solving your fundamental problems and advancing your experience as a citizen then you live imprisoned. Just sorry for you guys. |
And where are the citizens to express their outrage and demand better governance. They are not here. They are on the other thread bothered about the US President replacing the Head of the DHS. Their own country is governed well in their opinion. |
K stan4b:Good distraction from their own poor leadership they cannot vett. They are experts at governance in other climes and know what is better for citizens of other countries. |
Not surprising. The late Ayatollah Khomeini himself spent the last days of exile in France after expulsion from Iraq. You will have thought other predominantly Shiite nations will have taken him in. |
Racoon:No sir. The allegations is that he abused his office by extorting sums of money from the local government authorities. Whether it is politically motivated or not, a crime is alleged to have been committed warranting impeachment. Nothing absolutely wrong with that. If we are upset by this then let us use OUR OWN political powers to promote accountability by equally removing corrupt officials and replacing them with prudent, progressive governments. |
No one goes to jail for anything in Nigeria no matter how terrible the crimes are. Just have a circle of friends that can subvert the law and blackmail a weakened, compromised judiciary. |
givedemwotowoto:More and more lives will be lost. Over a thousand civilians dead already and counting. This is tragic. Fundamentalism is not easy to remove once it sets roots. The price of non kinetic, non invasive and bloodless revolution is patience and fortitude while the effects of sanctions and blockades work their way. The Iranian government was already on its knees and will have collapsed shortly on itself like the former Soviet Union in 1991. Now with this interruption it has been given a new, fundamentalist reason to stay alive. |
pinkguy:That is what state policing is for. If you don't want cows roaming the streets of your state, your State Assemblies will pass laws that are now enforceable by the police of your state, subject to superior Federal laws guaranteeing freedom of movement. Now this apparent conflicting of laws is what makes for debate at the National Assembly and a strengthening of nationwide security structures. |
Most people look at this issue as a mutually exclusive, an 'either', 'or' scenario. It is not. The creation of 'state' police and hopefully local government policing after that does not mean the dissolution of the Federal Police. The Federal Police will remain to enforce Federal law, while the State police will exist to enforce State laws. The process of restructuring the security architecture of the country should delineate responsibility on specific issues and places. |
Yusufisraelj:Accountability problems throughout the government, and a public disinterested. No one wants to know how his money was spent or mis-spent. You can be sure that company will not be blacklisted and is probably in line for one of these lofty 'contracts' peddled. Was the Julius Berger not yanked off the Abuja-Kaduna highway. So what happened. Why. And how come they are in line for Abuja-Lokoja. Just a game of fancy musical chairs. A coin toss that the public loses both ways. |
themanderon:Fatigue....playing only Premiership.... What will City fans say the or Arsenal fans or Liverpool fans for that matter. |
And how will you 'arrest' when you operate within a closed power loop where your principal was 'selected' by the Executive and the Head of Law Enforcement is equally appointed by the Executive. Without truly independent institutions there is no incentive to make governance work well. Government is like the gear mechanism of a vehicle that enables the conversion of power into motion. There is physical contact between the cogs of various wheels, one cog pressing against the other to transmit a small amount of energy that produces friction, motion and heat. And mech engineers will tell you that the hotter an engine can run the more efficient it is at delivering motion. But if all the teeth, the cogs of the wheel are worn or your clutch plate is burnt you are going no where. Just sorry for the Legislature. Their impact on society is next to nothing because they have no teeth in this democratic disposition. The BOI will appear or not depending on how close their principal is to the Executive. And if they choose not to, nothing will happen. There will be plenty of revving noise from the engine, smell of a burnt out clutch, but no motion. The Clintons, US Democratic Party rockstars had no option but to appear before Congress to answer questions and were grilled by a bipartisan committee. The reason this is possible is because of the true independence of institutions and the power of a people that know where the lines between politics and government start and end. |
Very unexpected draw against a struggling team by City. With this the title race is no longer in their hands. Arsenal will have to lose twice and City wins all their remaining matches.....very, very long odds for that to happen. The Premiership is truly the Hollywood of world football. You simply cannot write better scripts. |
When they are called to come vote for a N5,000 bribe they will joyfully oblige. Without citizen fear and respect good governance is just a mirage. Where else on democratic earth do you see a servant assaulting his master. |
Arsenal being outplayed by Brighton. The Gunners will be lucky to come out of this with anything. They look jaded and exhausted. |
Cti28:Hope not. Same thing I noticed on the coastal road during the yuletide. Hard wearing areas like U-turns with severe wear within just months after completion. If those things fail to the point of exposing the rebar within, it can pose severe risks to vehicles. |
This is the same play book that has been used for ages. It simply does not work in multi ethnic, multi religious, plural societies like that of Iran. It will just lead to a civil war, more deaths, more destruction, more misery and finally a dictatorship to resolve it. There is no alternative to a negotiated settlement. |
So unfortunate the needless loss of lives. This conflict should be brought to an end immediately. I cannot see what is being fought over that cannot be discussed. I cannot see any position or point of view that anyone is holding that is sure and guaranteed to be relevant in time to come. In wars the innocent always form the vast majority of the victims, |
owobokiri:How is a country that killed thousands in protests free. Freedom means freedom. If people want to walk about naked that is their business as long as they are in sufficient numbers to affect society and change laws. The problem the Iranian leadership had is the failure to reform it's ideology. Reforms have taken place in every other Gulf Arab state including by the Crown Prince in Saudi Arabia to head-off and cool off any potentially public angst. The hardline stance of the ruling mullahs is what is behind al these problems and the failure to realize that the wider Iranian populace are much more educated and the exposed than their counterparts in Afghanistan and Pakistan for that matter. Make no mistake about it. The human nature is a magnet for liberties, it may not manifest as human excesses but a person or people dictating how other should live is not sustainable. It may prevail for years and a few decades, but history has told us such empires eventually corrode from within and crumble at a touch. |
alabo1:Most don't understand the genesis, the history of all that we see today. Most international conflicts today are the fallouts of decades, if not generation long issues mainly centered around imperialism and the control of territories for the interests and benefit of the powers at that time no matter how fickle or faltering those interests have proven to be. And that is why to take a stand, fight and die for a position, an ideal today that in a few short years may become meaningless is the true tragedy of mankind. Just imagine yourself losing an eye or a limb because someone wanted to snatch your Trium or Nokia 3310 in 2003. Circumspection together with wisdom will have solved a whole of problems down the line and regrets far into the future for such a man and all of humanity in this world. |
The power to appoint is in their hands, and their hands alone. When responsibility for security comes and things begin to go south it is then their supporters will begin to call out state and council governments. You will think that state governments/governors will be at the forefront in demanding to have a say on how and in who is appointed into leadership of the police since security or the lack of security happens in their domains and they need guarantees that the leadership is responsible to them as well. As a matter of fact they should be part of the vetting, the interview process so the IG can explain to them exactly what his plans are for security in their domains, considering the peculairities each state faces. I am sure if such processes existed, governors such as that of Kwara, Zamfara and a certain Niger state that is lamenting the 300,000 displaced in his state, will want to know what the IG has planned for them, to restore their states to normalcy. But to sit idly by and refuse to reform the colonial era policing system of appointment, command and control while bleeding from 21 century criminality and war grade banditry is just hopeless. POLICE COMMAND AND CONTROL IS TOO FAR, TOO FAR, TOO FAR FROM THE REALITIES OF GRASSROOTS BASED INSECURITY. |
flokii:State governors should do what. When even their personal security details are not under their command and control. Nigerians are just barking up the wrong tree and the fact that such an abberation can continue for years and decades with citizens dying in numbers yet cannot SEE what is wrong shows Nigerians do not understand what democracy means. A people simply cannot rise beyond their mental. Make all the noise all over the media space. If you don't know how to craft society,.you will be consumed by it. Let us see the response and actions of the people of Kwara to this quagmire |
War is just not good. Leaves nothing but pain. People should do everything possible to avoid it. |
kpankpangolo:Be has joined the ruling party which is not concerned about his disposition. The mutual direction is to win the next election. |
That is the talk of autocrats, feudal lords....when they know their political future bears no reference to their actions, performances or behaviour while in office. |
Brendaniel:That is why we keep advocating for a restructuring of the police service to take away central control which has become a political bacon and transfer responsibility and accountability to the point of service demand. Crimes are committed at the grassroots. That is where police command should be. The Federal government and it's supporters cannot shake off responsibility if it holds firmly to the reins of action. You ALONE appoints the Head of Security, head of institutions, you ALONE bear responsibility for the outcome. You don't want the heat of criticism then either perform or give way. If the work is too much then delegate, if the scope and coverage is too wide then franchise. |
naptu2:This is absolutely the right way to go. Kudos to the Police Service. |
It is all about legacy. When their time is up and providence gives them a few more years to live then they enter into an era of regrets...and begin to write books and invite the public to explain away their shortcomings... |
Let us begin to expend our resources on life after oil and wean ourselves off the addiction to petrochems. Look at the Gulf. They have prepared for a life without oil with strategic investment. OPEC is no longer a force to be reckoned with. China is moving at all incredible speed into a green economy. Who will buy all the oil in the future.... |
humberjade:That is where game management comes in. You know Chelsea will continue attack because they need the win so you craft the tactics to handle that. Against tougher teams these issues will show. Raya saved the day today. The stress wasn't necessary at all. |
Amalekki:Still haven't cultivated a Champions mentality. Their success has all been down to technical superiority. Even Arteta has no sound tactical solutions to high stress situations. |
