Religion is burdensome with blind following. For example, you must perform some ritualist activities or obligation daily. Weekly, monthly,etc. Observe moon, sun, stars, etc. Wear certain dresses that arguably were worn by the initiators of the religion. Sometimes these dress were worn because of their weather conditions. Just imagine how foolish it would be for an Eskimo to wear a flowing gown.

Religion encourages you to defend your God or fight for him, kill for him, etc which is at variance with his avowed power to protect you.

Fellow Nairaland at our 56th Independence Celebration, we are only a few years younger than China. While China became independent country on October 1, 1949 (Age 67), we are 56 years old as an independent nation, that is China is only 11 years older than Nigeria. Unfortunately, Nigeria cannot compare with China economically, politically nor technologically. It is therefore appalling that even credible elections are alien to us. The above brings to mind the idea and need for national re-orientation. Hence when Buhari launched the now not so popular "CHANGE BEGINS WITH ME", some of us thought that the present Nigeria leadership would show good examples that will ensure the masses to buy into the programme. To me the first litmus test of this programme was the election in Edo State.

The zeal with which this government have shown on the media about the fight against corruption seems lost with the Edo election. How do we blind ourselves to the fact that people on queue to vote in an election were being paid to vote? What is more fraudulent than that? If someone can buy votes on election queue, what are they telling us? Are they not going to fraudulently recoup their "investment ""?

How does it sound that my president can congratulate someone in an erection where obvious manipulation of results were reported, not just by politicians but by unbiased international observers?

It becomes more saddening when one realises that the perpetrators of Edo election frauds were beneficiaries of credible elections or legal judgement to give them offices. For example, Adams Oshomole is a product of free and fair elections conducted by a "fraudulent" PDP government. It is also on record that Buhari contested presidential elections three times and failed. On each of those elections, he approached the tribunals and pursued the cases up to supreme court. With such hindsight. One would have expected that they would be champions of credible elections in this government if CHANGE.

Then, what is corruption if election rigging is NOT? What are we fighting if we are only reactive and not proactive? Why would EFCC and DSS not ask where those doling out cash on election day get the money from? What moral rights do our security agencies have in searching citizens phones if they can turn blind eyes to clear daylight frauds?

It appears the change we seek is still elusive.
