Hi everyone, so my consignment from heaven, my princess arrived on May 16th, at Emory hospital midtown. Here's my breakdown: Emory 3900 VD, 425 anaes (baby came too fast, so no epidural) Dr Brown 2850 (includes lab cost and post natal visits) So normally i should get cash back, but my Bp shot up three days after delivery and I had to go to ER, so for that one, I just found out i will still have approx $1500 to still pay even after swallowing my credit for epidural. Notwithstanding, I bless God cos im fine now and baby did not have any issues at all! Once i get zero balance ill update this post. Update:got zero balance after 4weeks. Takes emory a while to process. Got another bill for my dota's stay at emory,(there's even room listed on her bill, like say her bassinet na room) i called dem to ask why, they said its an error as it should have been zeroed alongside mine. So they zeroed that too. Missionary journey complete. |

Get a prescription from ur doctor n buy from alpha pharmacy ikeja (google it). It needs to be stored very cold (but not frozen) so buy n use the same day so make sure u have a hospital or doctor that will do it first. Dont waste ur money or injection through poor storage if ure not ready. Its not a hurry hurry something! spiceeamiee: OK..This is heartwarming. I am already on the lookout to go to another hospital and get the shot if the GH refuses to give me. Only problem now is I have to start sourcing for where to buy it. HMO should have given me for free but now that the doctor is saying something else, I wont even bother. Will just change hospitals after I put to bed. I will try and get a supply source before the week runs out so I can take it over the weekend.
@suremum Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. |

I did the test at 29 weeks and it was negative. the standard practice internationally is to give the anti-D shot between 28 to 32 weeks to prevent any quiet sensitisation. Because the shot is expensive, my obgyn-a consultant at LUTH explained most hospitals/doctors wont bother in naija and asked if i wanted to go ahead and i said yes. So I got the shot in week 31. Fast forward to week 36, repeated anti coombs test and it was positive but low titre, im a medical professional myself but i double checked with my doctors, this is a false positive cos of the injection i took. Baby doing great, they will check baby's blood at delivery to determine if i need a second rhogam after delivery. #maymommy spiceeamiee: @phlakkeys Thanks cappo for reaching out. Shopping is 98% done. Just a few things left.
Please @Yestitsme, @Titony and all other RH neg mamas, how did you people go about this Anti-D thing because I am in a mood to fight everybody now. We clocked 28weeks on Saturday. Prior to that, doctors both at the General hospital and my HMO said I have to do Indirect Coombes test to determine sensitization before I can take Rhogam. I just thought its all those normal tests and that I will still take the injection. I just got a call from my HMO doctor that I am not sensitized and as such will not be needing the injection. I told him sensitized or not, Oga abeg i need it and he adamantly refused saying the hospital will not administer it to me. I have an appointment at GH on Thursday but I am very certain they will tell me the same thing if the sensitization test comes out negative too. I am so worried and I am thinking of buying the injection by myself and taking it to the OB/GYN hospital I used to use when I was single. Hubby is here doing his own routine dance and asking me if I am more knowledgeable than the doctors. He even refused to give me money to buy it but I dont care. I just want to have peace of mind over my future babies!!!
Did anyone here not need the injection at 28weeks because they were supposedly not sensitized? |

shawlar: In my opinion, everyone that replies both her and Tpako are also to blame for this.. You are all enabling them by replying their barbs/insults and scarcastic comments. They bait you with such comments, you fireback and then the whole thread is derailed for like 2/3 pages. This MO has happened over and over again and y'all still fall for it. I dont understand why everyone cannot just 'unlook them'. By the time they insult the wind for like 4/5 pages cos nobody replies them, they'll open their own little thread somewhere and be trading insults |

TWoods: Fraud should not be condoned with false politeness.
Your culture of "waka pass" is why you need to fly 2000 miles to get your child healthcare in the US. How is her inquiry now termed fraud when the person is simply asking for information that you know but she doesnt know. You have accused her of fraud when she has not actually done or attempted to do the said act? Thank God for people like @Babatwi who know to enlighten without turning to judge and jury on top a case that does not even exist. Twoods continue behaving like Nigerian police: for ecample "im arresting you now and keeping you in jail for 6months because you are answering questions like someone that will likely cause trouble in NL in the near or foreseeable future". |

I have gotten a lot of emails from nairalanders in the last few days asking for a sample of my change of intent letter, i will assume its because you think i got some special treatment at POE as a result of writing something very poetic to the consulate and not because you're lazy about searching through the threads for a sample like i did. So here it is, please dont send any emails asking for it again.
This is just a sample, you should edit to suit your purpose .
Dear US embassy,
I write to inform you of my intention to use my B1/B2 visa to give birth in the us, the visa was originally gotten for business/vacation purpose and i travelled in Bleep for Bleep meeting and had a two week vacation afterwards and have not been to the US since. I have contacted a doctor and a hospital in the us and have been able to confirm that I have the financial ability to pay our bills. i will be arriving in April 2017.
I look forward to hearing from you.
End of sample.
Now they always send everybody the same generic response that basically tells you, you're not obligated to tell them and makes you feel like you wasted your time. I responded to their generic email by saying a warm thank you and they in turn said 'thank you for my feedback', which is the only non-generic email i have from them.
So my advice: as someone who tot the change of intent email was a waste of time, but sent it out of 'let me sha do copy copy n send', my poe experience has tot me that it is quite useful and a blessing. |

I also got the generic reply that everyone gets. It just happens that us embassy nigeria sent a seperate email to them poe people. Now I dont know if they do this for all the people who send them change of intent letter. I also would never have known it was a different email from my generic correspondence email if not that the excited officer called his colleague to come and see and then read it out. |

Its not the generic reply i had in my correspondence with us embassy. Its a separate email telling them i have written to them and asking them to offer me necessary assistance. I wouldnt have known its different if not that He read it out to his colleague. |

Hi Mrs sugar, im in houston too. got in on wednesday. the flight via emirates is looooooong. i have never experienced such in my life, my last US trip was on United airlines so 17 hours direct from Lagos, while this one was 30 hours total, abeg it was a lesson in endurance, food was pfft. I'm just 32 weeks so ds your KLM must have been sweet for una with 36weeks belle. Anyway, our POE story is similar and since i cant figure out how to type on nairaland unless Im replying someone, lemme just state where mine was different from yours. 1. I flew emirates, They asked for my fit to fly on emirates. 2.when i landed in houston, no body asked for a single document, not doctor's records, evidence of payment, like nothing, all my papers stayed in my bag, and i found myself asking them, sorry, is that all? 3. First officer asks what im here for, i say maternity leave, he says ure pregnant?!?, (cos i dont look it, if you're not looking for it), he asks if anyone is joining me later, i say husband, he says cool. any food, i say no, he says- not even egusi, I say not even that. Then i ask him if he's had egusi before, he says- does it taste like mangoes? i laugh, i tell him what it is, he laughs and says, sorry to keep me further, but i just need to see one more officer. 4. Then I got sent to secondary check where i was getting nervous for nothing. Officer said he just wanted to tell me I had done well by notifying the embassy in Naija and then he calls two of his colleagues to read the email the embassy sent them about me, then he starts to gist me about two other women who lied about pregnancies and how they were denied entry. I make all the right, "ehn ehn", "oh my" sounds and he says i should keep it up, honesty and all and ensure my hospital gives me a clear bill before i leave. He Asked how much i had but did not ask to see any proof even when i told him i don't have cash only card (must be my angelic face). 4. NO agric visit, the end!!! Thanks Nairalanders in this forum!!! MrsSugar: Hello all Thanks once again for this great forum,I honestly don't know how the testimony I had last month would have been possible. Shared my stories already
Got in to Houston yesterday and want to share my Poe story, another victory testimony.
Flew KLM to Houston at 36weeks.Pls this is not for the faint hearted and won't advice anyone to try this, fly earlier if you can.I wasn't asked for fit to fly though I had one from my doctor.
Got to Houston safely, food on plane was DELICIOUS!IT JUST KEPT COMING LOL!
Got to the CBP.Very handsome and young hispanic guy Our flight was the only one at the time so no crowd.Apparently he was gisting with another cute officer so they were both in good moods CBP1:hello passport please(smiling) Me:hello(hands over passport) Cbp1:*looking at passport* you sure this is you ma'am (both CBP 1 n 2 chuckling) Cbp2 :it would be a problem if it weren't her
Me:I was tired but had to laugh."Yes that's me" (pregnancy altered my looks a bit)
Cbp1:so you want to give birth in US why? Me:my hubby and I want the best for our baby, its our first child and we scared of high mortality rate back home cos of past complications plus America ranks no 1 in obstetrics care CBP:OK....but you'd have to follow my colleague to the other room for secondary inspection Me:with a smile says okay
Then comes the almighty famous secondary inspection lol.
After 10minutes waiting with other people Cbp calls for me and I followed him to a room and sat.Just me and him
CBP:*typing and then pauses* oh I see you're here for child birth and you informed the embassy already Me:yes CBP:how long you here for? Me:3 months CBP:oh I see....to give you time to recover right? Me:though I put in 8 weeks in my application, explained I was told the doc would have to certify me and my baby fit to fly before I can leave so had to extend my stay to 3months
CBP: okay CBP:you have some papers to show me?
Me:handing all my docs
Cbp:pls keep all your receipts when next you come into the US so you won't have issues okay?
Me:"nods* okay I will At this point I knew it was a done deal!
Cbp: okay this checks out.You already made some deposits too i see.how much on you?
Me:Bleep dollars
Cbp:oh sh*t!!!!!I just typed and hit delete mistakingly. Sorry ma'am will have to do your paper work again
Me I just dey look the guy ) He typed and gave me my papers after stamping me till October( 6 months). He didn't even notice my passport would expire September. All took like 5min
Carried my luggage to agric. The guy says "oh from Nigeria hope you don't have Garri, yam or chicken products like knorr chicken lol".They know us well! I said no just the regular knorr cubes he laughed and said "oh you been here before?" I said no but I'm aware of the rules,he says to his colleague "this one knows the rules even on her first trip". They both laugh. He asks someone to help me with my bags without searching and I was free to go.
Houston Poe will be a breeze if your burden of proof is in order with your medical visa,no need to fear. It's when the story is otherwise then you may have a terrible experience.
Thanks to all Nairalanders!May God crown all the sacrifices and efforts we are making for our children with blessings. |

You can use any type of hospital in America, but wherever you use, do not take government money to pay for your bills whether through insurance or any other scope or means. chichi93: Good day house, please I will like to ask if it is wrong to use a government or public hospital in the US.
