Yes, they have a right to resist. But government has a right to insist and the law provides them backing to take such decisions like changing the name of the school.

It is a school for the people and the key stakeholders are the people that carry the name of the school… the alumni, students, professors

The "government" is the "owner" of the institution. The so-called "key stakeholders" can be "consulted" in taking decisions concerning the school. But the final decision rests with government.

Lol. Which "court of justice" ruled that government has no right to change the name of a public school that is 100% funded by government? That judge needs his head examined. The case of UNILAG was reverted because GEJ as President had very little appetite for crisis in the polity. Some Presidents will take that decision and stand by it. An Obasanjo for instance wouldn't have gone back on his decision.

Lol. GEJ decided to put down the wave of student protests by reverting government's decision. Try that under a stubborn President like Obasanjo and the government's reaction would have been different. The students do not own the school and have zero say on what the school is called.

Agreed, the governor is a "temporary custodian". But Government is a continuum let by a governor per time and the school in question is owned by "government". Whatever decision that the governor takes on behalf of government is ratified by the House of Assembly and gazetted so it is binding on subsequent governors. If another governor comes in and wants to change it, it would have to pass through the same process again.

It might interest you to know that Harvard was not always called Harvard. It was originally called "New College". The name was changed to Harvard College in 1639, in honor of its first major benefactor, John Harvard, who left the college his books and half his estate

This is the way Ogun state governor (Segun Osoba) destroyed the very popular and respected Ogun State University and named it Olabisi Onabano University.
They destroyed the brand name and turned it into a second class university.

The President should have toned down his visit to Benue and done it in a more timely manner. I think it was the State's decision to shut schools and encourage people to come out for a welcome parade. I really don't see anything wrong with it though I wouldn't have done that if I was the governor.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the President's apparel in my opinion.

Why do we like to glorify failure? How do you tell me P8 is better than F9? Aren't they both below credit? This current administration has been there since 2019 which is at least six years in another two days. As at 2019, the Orile to Marina route was almost completed way back as 2017. So what has this administration really done differently? We cannot be asking for better governance and celebrating mediocrity. We either want to experience growth and development or we do not.

You are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. I choose to celebrate what this administration has done by completing the blue line and building the red line from scratch to where it is now in operation. We can ask for more while celebrating what they have achieved.

I don't know who the problem is and who doesn't have any sense of shame between our leaders and the populace? How on earth are we celebrating this project? It is less than 100km and it has been on since 2008. This is 16years after and we are celebrating such level of failure as this is worse than mediocrity. We truly deserve our leaders.

All the while it was stalled by different funding conflicts and issues. But since all the issues have been resolved under this current administration, there has been consistent progress.

16 years or not, it is worth celebrating when you compare it to similar projects across the country like Rivers and Akwa Ibom that have been abandoned.

I am very impressed with the degree of progress made on this rail project and so many other projects across the Lagos metropolis.

One thing I like about Babajide Sanwoolu's administration is that once they commence a project, you will see consistent progress until it finishes. You rarely see a contractor abandon site for months unlike the previous governments. Kudos to them.

Sanwo Olu is a failure when compared to Ambode and Fashola.

There were pigs being reared at Mile 2 bus stop. They used to forage on the heaps of refuse that sprung up beside the pedestrian bridge. You can ask anyone that lived in Mile 2 Estate and frequented the bus stop right opposite the current Train Station during Ambode's time. Ambode did averagely well in some aspects of governance.

But he failed WOEFULLY in the areas of road construction and waste management/sanitation in my opinion. He did NOTHING on the railway blue line that was started under Fashola; he abandoned the ongoing construction of Lagos - Badagry expressway; basically abandoned the entire Amuwo-Odofin - Ojo - Oriade axis.

You can hate Sanwoolu. But that man has done very well especially in the area of road construction and public infrastructure. The Blue line is up and running and the project to extend it to Okoko from the current termination point in Mile 2 is moving at a steady pace. The Badagry expressway has received massive attention. The Red line is also up and running. So many infrastructural projects currently ongoing.

I have nothing against Ambode or Fashola. They did their best during their tenure. But if Ambode had continued with Fashola's pace and work when he took over, he would have achieved a lot more. He rather spent his time fighting unnecessary battles and trying to erase the latter's legacies.

Coming out of the military era, Lagos was an eyesore. There were literally mountains of refuse across several parts of the metropolis. Tinubu came and cleared most of those mountains and put in place the framework for LAWMA.

Fashola continued his good works with the sanitation and beautification of many open areas across Lagos.

Things went very bad under Ambode due to the Visionscape debacle. The heaps of refuse began to mount again. People literally began to raise pigs at Mile 2 busstop because the pigs always had enough to forage and eat from the piles of refuse at the busstop.

Sanwoolu is doing his best against the back drop of the indiscriminate dumping of refuse. We the prople need to do bette .

I have some friends who swear by Canada since they moved. I also have a few who curse the day they decided to move. The move to Canada or any of the other japa destinations works for some and doesn't for some others.

It is a huge leap of faith after all said and done. But just know that a lizard in Nigeria doesn't automatically become a crocodile abroad just by emigrating. It takes a lot of prayers, patience, planning and HARDWORK!

I only made reference to northerners calling themselves one. They’ve said in the past that Hausa/Fulani are all one. That’s why they refer to northerners as Arewa. It’s not like south that we have Igbo, Yoruba etc distinctively separated.

No that is not correct. Arewa is simply the Hausa word for North or Northern. It does not refer to the people but to the North as a cardinal point. Northerners are referred to as Mutannen Arewa - People of the North. The other cardinal points are Yamma - West, Gabas - East and Kudu - South.

The north is also quite diverse in history, culture and traditions. The only thing that really binds the tribes together is Islam as a religion. But Christianity and Animism is still widely practiced especially among the Hausa tribes.

There are 2 options open to Fubara - one is to brief his lawyers to open up a case to challenge his suspension in court OR accept his suspension in good faith and use the 6 months to create channels of rapprochement with the law makers and the Presidency.

The chairman of the Ethics committee did not suspend Senator Akpoti; the Ethics committee constituted of Senators across gender and party lines, voted overwhelmingly to place her on suspension.

While concerns about the chairman's history are valid, I really do not see what it has to do with this current situation and further speaks to Senator Akpoti's vendetta against the Senate.

I knew it was only a matter of time before Senator Natasha plays this card. That is the standard go-to for women when they realize they have thoroughly messed up - pull out the "sexual assault" card and play victim to sway public opinion in their favor.

While I do not wish to dismiss her allegations outright, it is curious that she chose this moment to go public—especially when it boils down to her word against the Senate President’s. More so, it raises the question of how this accusation connects to her earlier refusal to adhere to Senate protocol by declining to move to her reassigned seat, a directive that other affected senators complied with without incident.

That said, I strongly believe this allegation should be thoroughly investigated. If Senator Akpabio is found guilty, he must be held accountable—public officials should not be allowed to abuse their power. However, Senator Natasha should also be investigated for disregarding Senate authority during last week’s proceedings. Accountability should go both ways.

Very possible. That's why I used "probably." But here's the thing: even if you are not a business person, you buy things in today's market. As a consumer, you definitely have felt the impact of inflation. Compare the price of things in 2013 and now. Compare the price of fuel, foreign exchange, etc. We all complain about poor network quality and call on the networks to improve. But we are still paying the same rates for calls and data since 2013? Please let's be real and fair to these businesses.
