iwaeda:Good one, but do they not have to be screened and ratified by the House of Assembly? Or does that only happen at the federal level? |
MadamVanessa:Ukrainians in Ukraine will disagree with you. Thry are the ones that have had to bear the brunt of Russia's military might over the last 2 weeks. In Kharkiv alone, over 1000 people were killed. Don't believe everything you read or watch in western media and their attempt to downplay Russia's military might and strategy. If Russia was such a weak army, I wonder why NATO is so hesitant about engaging them. Putin has been deliberately restrained in his approach to this conflict and I could guess one or 2 reasons why that is. But it would be a grave error to mistake his restraint for weakness. The truth is that beyond the western propaganda on this war and how "weak" the Russian army supposedly is, no one really know what is inside Putin's head and what his next move is. He has been very cryptic and he is known to be quite erratic so everyone is treading carefully. I dont support his approach to this whole situation but I understand why he had to go the way he has done so far. |
holicupp:I agree with you that being a tout is not a job in the true sense of the word. But lazy? You think being a tough is being lazy. Perhaps you should walk in thier shoes for a day before you reach a conclusion. Truth is that we are all victims of the system we all created and perpetuate...the "touts" also. All I'm saying is that government should create an alternative platform for them to fit in before removing the safety net. If the government somehow finds a way to enforce this ban, do you think the beneficiaries of that system are just going to fold their hands and go home hungry? Of course not. They will bounce back on society and it is you and I who think we are living and not being lazy that will be the victim. The policy is good. But a technocrat like Mr. Soludo should know that there is no where in the world where you put the cart before the horse and expect a smooth ride. I wish him well. |
If you listen to western media channels like CNN and Sky News, you will begin to think that the Russians are getting their asses whooped by the Ukranians. You will think that Ukranian troops are so good that a lot of Russian army generals have been killed. A colleague was arguing with me today about his claim that the Russian army is so weakened that they are unable to overrun Ukraine within a week as earlier planned. The reality however is quite different as evidenced by these pictures of bombed out houses and several dead people. Even NATO as powerful as they are do not want an open military confrontation with Russia because it will result in too many collateral damages in human and material resource. |
OvertheTop:I was very careful not to take sides, my brother. I totally agree with you that some women can be agents of the devil. I was only reacting to the crux of the matter which is the fact that she can take certain actions to address the situation of being abandoned in Nigeria rather than crying on social media. |
oshozondii:Mistake number 1 as far as I am concerned. While I do not subscribe to the activities of touts and the likes, it is a reality that most state governors have to deal with. That revenue pipeline is well organized and feeds way up the ladder to the very top. Coming in and immediately upsetting the apple cart and shutting off the pipeline is a recipe for disaster. What do you do with the 100s and maybe 1000s of youths that benefit from the system? What is the government's plan for them? Do they have a role to play in the new system that is to be introduced? How will it benefit them and the numerous people that depend on them for succor? How does the government plan to enforce this ban and won't this create a new slew of crises across the state? Why don't you wait until you introduce the new before unplugging the old? A more rational approach would have been to hold extensive consultations with all stakeholders in that sector. Then put together and implement the new plan or scheme for park and market management. Launch within a controlled environment and handle all of the issues that arise from the pilot phase before full implementation. Once the stakeholders are carried along, they will see the value in the new system and the benefit to them. Then it will be better received by all. |
MsDoris:Painful betrayal from her husband. It may have been triggered by something the woman did. But no matter what he should not treat her that way. He can divorce her over there and let them continue their life. But she needs to stop wallowing in self-pity and pick herself up. This is not too difficult to fix though it will cost her quite some money. This case will just be handled the same way you handle missing travel documents. She needs to get a lawyer and fight for her's and her children's rights. The first thing she needs to do is file an affidavit for her missing passport. That way, she and her children can be issued fresh passports. Then she needs to approach the Spanish embassy to have her case reviewed and her visa restored. I am not an expert in this sort of matter but I know it is not an impossible situation to resolve. A good immigration lawyer should be able to provide her with some professional guidance and support. |
God1000:Sadly, the trade in military hardware has very little to do with whether you have the money to purchase them. The trade is governed by a lot of international conventions. There are so many other factors to consider beyond having the money. |

The NBA should busy itself with cautioning and sanctioning members of the bar that consistently bring the noble profession into disrepute. Umahi has a right to react publicly to what he perceives as an attempt to scuttle his government illegally. You cannot beat a child and bar that child from crying...that would be the height of cruelty. The law recognizes 3 ways by which a governor can be removed from office viz, resignation, death, or impeachment. The Supreme Court has also established time and time again that votes in an election belong to the candidate and not to the party on which they ran. Not sure where the judge got his precedent from but I am sure the Appellate courts will correct this issue. |
sharpden:I knew there was more to the story from the first day the story broke on social media. Social media cancel culture has now replaced the former marketplace lynching of people perceived to have committed one offense or the other. On social media, our reactions of outrage or support for a story that just broke are mostly based on our parochial sentiments rather than on any objective rationale. If we like the alleged perpetrator, then the person can do no wrong; if we do not like the person on the other hand, then we hurriedly call for their head without waiting to hear the full story. Society's moral compass is broken and we are all just moved by sentiments and emotions. We have lost our rationality. Only God will help us. |
Maxymilliano:A military coup is just like taking power away from a set of evil humans (civilian politicians) and handing same power over to demons (Military politicians). Military regimes equally favour a new set of rulers and not the common man. Matter of fact, military rule has absolutely no benefit for the common man as there is gross oppression and absolutely no dissent is tolerated. Under a democracy, the common man can still cry out in protest of the oppression. You try that under a military regime and you will regret your life. My guess is that anyone praying for military intervention in governance in Nigeria either is too young to have known what it was like living under a military dictatorship or has forgotten. Even though I was in still in secondary school in the Abacha days, I remember how bad it was and absolutely pray against a return to those days. |

ikorodureporta:In a world where more than half of the population still lives in hunger and poverty, lacking the basic necessities of life, this same sex legalization drive seems like an extremely worthy pursuit. Kudos to Amnesty International ![]() |
fergie0o1:If the legislators are sincere about the electoral bill, then they should simply expunge or tweak the contentious aspects and re-present for the President's assent. Or alternatively, begin the process to see if they can muster the two-thirds majority required to override the President's veto. (tough call but not impossible). This issue with direct or indirect primaries has been contentious from the get-go; especially since the proponents of both sides of the argument are not holding their positions on the basis of any altruistic intentions. The legislators are for direct primaries as they believe it will whittle down the influence of the governors in picking and choosing the party's candidates. The governors on the other hand want to continue to hold and wield power to control the party machinery at the state level. In inserting that clause for direct primaries into the electoral bill, not much attention was paid to the issues highlighted in the President's letter, like the issue of funding, security, transparency of the process, etc. Like the speaker has said, however, the electoral reform bill is not all about direct/indirect primaries. There are several other salient aspects like the e-transmission of results that should be considered as well. I think rather than take a partisan stance on this, legislators should take the President's views on its merits, take a more critical look at the bill and make a decision in the national interest. |
Naijawhyy:That's a very "convenient" letter from bandits to "Zamfara Christians" coming so soon after the US removed Nigeria from their absurd list of countries without religious freedom. CAN you believe it? ![]() Look, all of these propaganda is nonsense. Nigeria was removed from the list because the US differentiates between religious intolerance by the government and its agency's and religious intolerance brought about by terrorist activities. They realized it was unfair to brand Nigeria as religiously intolerant over the activities of Boko Haram which the government is actively fighting against. The implication is that Nigeria will never be put on that list again even if Boko Haram writes all of the churches in the north. Except if CAN and it's agencies can prove that the Nigerian government as an institution is somehow directly empowering Boko Haram to fight Christians. Goodluck with that. |
FarahAideed:All these ENDSARS people just dey use us catch cruise. So government first waited for you to testify before panel for over one year. Dem no pursue you then. Na after panel come release report dem come dey find you to revenge abi? Well played! Mtchewww! |
By the time that report is ripped apart by a line of lawyers from here to Timbuktu, that report will not be worth even the paper it is written on. The panel had one whole year to do a good job. But bias and parochial interest no gree. 309 pages filled with glaring inconsistencies that even the authors cannot defend. The only people that will profit from this report are the lawyers that will be briefed by all of the parties indicted in the report. The report will be tied up in various litigations in courts across the country for the next three decades and more. Mark my words: just like the Oputa panel report, NOTHING WILL COME OUT OF THIS REPORT. |
Gerrard59:Where did you get your figures from? Amnesty Nigeria? CAN? Don't believe everything you read online. |
JOemmy:Terrorists don't care whether you are Muslim or not. Everyone is fair game to be used in furthering their ideology. Neither do bandits...they are only after money |
Standardcosting:I think the question should be "what was the basis for listing"? |
Barrister026:Oga stand up and go and dish your food by yourself and save yourself the wahala. Abi does she have the pot of soup and food under lock and key or in a safe somewhere? ![]() |
misterme:Your issues are "legion" and if you were not so serious about them, I would be lmao right now ![]() Seriously though, I was also really upset about the vaulting cost of gas until I spoke to my cousin who lives in the UK and he explained to me carefully that there is some international dimension to the rising cost of LPG across the globe. I can't say I understood half of what he was trying to explain or how the international cost of gas affects how much I buy gas from Mama Blessing's refill depot at the junction of my street. God will sha help us to continue to meet the rising cost of living. Unto your madam's issue, I think you should sit down with her and have a heart to heart. It seems to me like you guys run different economies within the house where she spends her pay anyhow she likes and you spend your's anyhow you like. Thankfully, it seems you both have jobs, I suggest you both pool your resources and allocate funds jointly in line with a structured monthly budget. From counseling a lot of couples, I have found out that issues like this often occur when women begin to feel left out of the financial decision-making process. This is usually either because the man is the sole earner and rides on his male ego to make those decisions to the exclusion of the wife since he feels it is "his money". In these tough times, you need to swallow your ego, sit her down and lay your cards on the table. By this I mean, let her know how much you earn and let her tell you how much she earns. You both draw up a list of your monthly needs. Review the list and streamline appropriately to your available financial pool. Also jointly agree on how much you will be putting away for the proverbial "rainy day" or towards any joint project. Now, if you do this, your wife most likely will adjust and "help you manage" whatever you jointly agree for the month. If your madam feels like you are living the lau lau kinda lifestyle in the midst of this austerity or you choose to continue to exclude her from your financial affairs, she will most likely continue to be a witch even if you give her 100% of your monthly income as upkeep. Bring her into your affairs and give her a seat at the table and you will see the magic. Good luck! |
RomanGreen:That was a "secret recording" set up by who\...? My point exactly! ![]() |
fergie001:Mr. Kanu is a master of playing to the camera though. Just nicely position the camera, bait a DSS officer and roll tape! ![]() |
Shootlion:Jesus wasn't running a church. At best, you could call him an itinerant minister, moving from place to place preaching to the people. The apostles you mentioned were not layabouts. They were a very key pillar of Jesus' ministry, offering support, planning and arranging and learning of the master. Read about Jesus feeding the 5000 and you will see the key role played by the disciples in caring for the crowd. Sometimes he would send them ahead to get food and supplies; sometimes they acted as his personal security, forming a ring around him so he won't be crushed by the teeming crowd. He sent them on missions of evangelism. They helped in counseling and baptizing new converts. Etc. All of these and more they did in service to Christ while he was with them physically. So much more they did in service to him after he ascended to heaven. |
Nezzjnr:Can you truly call yourself a member of a family if you do not take up a responsibility within that family? If that were the case, would other members of your family not call you irresponsible and treat you with disdain? While I don't subscribe to looking down at anyone or forcing people to serve in church, the fact is that you need to show some responsibility. Be a part of the work; ask how you can be of help; contribute your quota because with all hands on deck, the work becomes lighter on everyone. |
Aonkuuse:You can imagine! Just look at these pictures...hardly any young person in sight. We leave the future to the old folks and expect there to be any change. All we know how to do is to wail and weep on social media. Throwing puerile tantrums when things don't go our way like the spoilt brats that we are. Come out and vote now where it matters, whosai!!! Tomorrow, we will be back on social media criticizing a process we chose not to be a part of. We will be singing the blues about rigging and telling stories that touch the heart about how our future is threatened. Sometimes I feel like we are stuck in an alternate reality somewhere far from here. Feels like we are so detached from the reality that stares us in the face. Such a big shame! |
BizzBizz:Kai! See how these "northerners" keep dragging us back politically and economically ![]() |
another1:All of the "investigations" contained in this long report is how much it is sold in various states and what "Paulina" said, and how "Donatus" lamented, etc. Shouldn't this investigation have extended to unearthing the real fact behind the wanton increase in the cost of the commodity ![]() Same thing with the cost of staple food items: beans, yam, tomatoes, etc. Beans has become gold that only the rich can afford. News media only report the news of the increase and of course, blame it on the government's "bad policies". But i have not seen one that investigates the root cause of any of these increases. Which policies are specifically responsible for the high cost of gas and food? What aspects of the supply chain are impacted by these "bad policies"? What should the government do to ameliorate the situation that they are not doing currently doing? What should the prople do? Questions like this and more answered in a well written article is how the media stimulates public discourse that can lead to public policy improvements. |
Moferere:Wike maketh, Wike destroyeth. There is no Secondus without Wike and truth is, I doubt if anyone can win a political case against Wike's interest in any court in Port Harcourt. |
MufasaLion:Ok. Just that the danger with such an arrangement is that you are probably the only one in that setting that feels you are surrounded by "friends". What you most likely have in reality are groupies. But, if it works for you, I guess I can only wish you goodluck with that. |
MufasaLion:Fair enough. You have a right to surround yourself with friends of your choice. ![]() |
